AUGUST(ING) IN FLAMES! The August, like the pasts, came with rain, in abundance But this time eroded the banks And paved passage for grievances moans, mourns and stress-weaken cries of helpless mothers Do we love the moisture that washes only our bodies but failed to quench the raging fire in the heart of hearts? Of what benefit comes with the August that dug trenches with blood on the unploughed lands of our lands? And dimmed the sun for the untamed vultures wielding long bullet mothers waiting for our walking carcasses to snatch? How do we celebrate the August that rains grievances from the clouds of terror? Who'd even celebrate the coming Of a year that the horizon' yonder Is darkened and deepened by virgins blood? Woe! The year the haramists roamed the nooks, taking advantage of our idle voices, rooting terror in our grounds!! Woe to us, them and us again! Who sleep without locking the doors against the thieves lurking for our lives Woe to the sun that appraised us not the nature they carried under its supposed motherly watch! The wind knew their scents but rather eroded our noses with the perfumes of catwalkers on our streets Shame upon us, them and us again and upon every soul responsible for this misery. Now, How do we even explain to the Augustuses that the candles are burning our Blue blood? ©️Mobbo Mon, Aug 2, 2021 #poetry #poet #nomad #nomadism #herdsman #writer #writing #africanwriters #africanpoet #africanpoetry https://www.instagram.com/p/ChHZzxoIWoD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"Oluadah Equiano was an Igbo man who was abducted by slave traders in 1755 at the age of eleven in his hometown of Essaka, in modern-day Delta state. He was sold into slavery and later won his freedom and travelled the world as a merchant, author and explorer. He eventually settled in Great Britain and launched a ferocious abolitionist movement, becoming the world's first black abolitionist." —Igbo History https://www.instagram.com/p/CGXdRAklRnt/?utm_medium=tumblr

GEREWOL The gerewol Festival of Woɗaaɓe The Gerewol is a week-long annual courtship festival held after every rainy season in In-Gall in Niger republic and Chad among the Woɗaaɓe-Fulani. It's a week of different traditional displays—singing, dancing, face painting, camel racing e.t.c. The dancing part of this festival is called Yaake. The males adorn themselves in beautiful attires, feathers, face painting. They then gather in lines, singing, dancing and chanting; showing their white teeth and eyes—rolling the eyes to impress the young women. "This is characterized by group singing, accompanied by clapping, stomping and bells. The Wodaabe Guérewol festival is one of the more famous examples of this style of repeating, hypnotic, and percussive choral traditions, accompanied by swaying line dancing, where the men interlink arms and rise and fall on their toes" ~Wiki The chantings are about bravery, recitation of family history and other idiosyncrasies held closely and dearly by the Fula-Woɗaaɓe people in the songs. While the young men gather in lines showcasing their beauty in striking appearances, the young women come around, to choose the one they are more impressed with, and have interested in—to marry. The men in the other hand go to the women's campsites to prove their bravery—in different forms. #gerewol #guerewol #fula #fulani #fulaculture #africanculture #nomads #nomad #nomadiclife #africantribe #culture #festival #beautycontest #bravery #warriors #blackpanther #blackpower #blackwanderlust #wanderers #wanderer #love (at Ilorin) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca4z3JLoFvA/?utm_medium=tumblr
