One Canada Square - Canary Wharf - London - England
Sometimes called the Canary Wharf Tower, One Canada Square stands 235m (770ft) above sea level as the second tallest building in the United Kingdom. Although the main purpose of the building is for offices, there are also retail sections on the lower ground floor. The stainless steel cladding creates a unique sight on bright days, as the reflection from the sun makes the building a shining beacon of light visible from across the city.

Parc Güell - Barcelona - Spain
Antoni Gaudi’s ambitious vision for a hillside housing development, inspired by the English garden city movement at the time, was unfortunately never able to get past the initial stages. His idea was to take advantage of the fresh air (well away from the polluted city centre and factories) and the beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. The public, however, didn't share Gaudi’s enthusiasm and there was no demand for the properties, therefore bringing the project to a close.
The silver lining to its demise however, was that the natural beauty of the area was left undisturbed, preserving the unique tranquillity of the location.

Stratford - London - England
A beautiful example of crepuscular rays. These aforementioned rays are beams of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the sun is located. As a result of a perspective effect, an illusion is created whereby the rays seems to converge at a point, when in fact the shafts of light are near parallel.

Assut de l'Or Bridge (Serreria Bridge) - Valencia - Spain
Located in the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències (City of Arts and Sciences), Serreria Bridge stands 125m tall (making it the tallest point in Valencia) gleaming in its bright white coating and integrating spectacularly with the similarly unique and hyper-modern buildings in the surrounding area. Its designer, Santiago Calatrava, curved the single pylon backwards and added 29 parallel supporting cables to support the bridge deck. At night, the pylon and are accented by spotlights around the bridge, giving another dimension to the structure.

INNSIDE by Melia - MedienHafen - Dusseldorf - Germany
This hotel is one of the many examples of remarkable modern architecture in the MedienHafen area of Dusseldorf. The building is one of the tallest in the city at 62 metres tall with 17 floors, making the view from the sky bar a definite point of interest for tourists in the area. Two thousand glass panels cover the exterior with a design and colour palette reminiscent of the works of artist Piet Mondrian, creating a wonderfully unique highlight in the city skyline.

Casa Mila - Barcelona - Spain
A masterpiece in architectural design and the last private residential building designed by Antoni Gaudi. It is definitive of the Catalan Art Nouveau period, and is a culmination of the design principles, techniques and philosophies involved in his other previous projects. The result is a building in which every detail has been carefully considered to solve the common problems of architecture and design at the time, as well as to provide a perfect combination of both the functional and aesthetic form.
One such problem was that of lobbies being too closed and dark. The solution, two open and airy courtyards which provided a place of transit and which are directly visible to those entering the building. The courtyard mirrors the external design of the building, that of a constant curve with undulating surfaces and features, and provides a sense of community with all apartments overlooking the courtyard and each other.

Hotel Omm - Passeig de Gracia - Barcelona - Spain
A member of the Design Hotels group, Hotel Omm is undeniably a hotel befitting the name of the group. Interior designers Sandra Tarruella and Isabel López design language was that of “simple lines, a balance of colours and volumes, as well as natural materials without extravagant adornments”. The corridors are lined with black rubber so as to absorb sound, and two tubes of light span their length, which taken as a whole with the other design elements, gives the space a futuristic presence. This creates a unique, uplifting experience for guests as they transition from standing in the dark hallways to entering their light-filled rooms.
