Apollo's celebrations in a nut shell:
[ @trans-hypn0-slut have some information on Apollo days! Enjoy!]
Pyanopsia
"a festival in honour of Apollo, held at Athens on the seventh day of the month of Pyanopsion (October)"
This festival was brought about by Theseus, who promised Apollon a festival/feast if he were to defeat the Minotaur and safely travel to Attica from Delos.
Traditionally, it was celebrated with offerings of meals, jars of honey, olive oil, or laurel. In modern day, we can still use those things as offerings for Apollo. It is encouraged to sing hymns, read his myths, and create an eiresione for the festivities.
Tumblr media
Theophania
"The Theophania were intended as a celebration of the return of Apollo to Delphi from which he was believed to be absent during the winter months."
This festival is not widely known about, simply because there isn't much information about it either! Given its context, it can be assumed that Theophania was generally honoring and welcoming Apollo to Delphi from his time away. This is believed to be celebrated on March 21st, the Spring Equinox, with his departing date on December 21st, the Winter Solstice.
Traditionally, it appears that the festival was mostly about displaying an image of Apollo in a sanctuary to worshippers. Today, we can celebrate with fresh offerings, revamping his altar, and perhaps communing with Apollon if he allows it.
Tumblr media
Thargelia
"The Athenian Thargelia festival dedicated to both Artemis and Apollo is most famous for picking two scapegoats (φάρμακοι) that were driven out of town to rid it of sins and plagues."
This festival is Artemis and Apollo's birthday, celebrated on the 7th day of Thargelion (May 7th). Though, for clarification, Artemis is actually celebrated on the 6th.
Traditionally, sources say that on the 6th negativity is to be driven out. On the 7th, positivity and goodness is brought in! Disease seems to be a focus during Thargelia, as well as being thankful for Apollo in general. Purification is deeply rooted in this holiday, so in modern day cleansing and feasting can be done. More information on modern festivities can be found in the references!

ideas for actively working magic with tarot spirits
Anyone with a keen eye will immediately recognize that a lot of this theory only works if you believe in some specific stuff, so obviously this isn't going to fit into everyone's paradigms.
This isn't a theory post, so I'm not getting into why I believe what I believe.
But any time you see me say something that sounds like "fact," put a mental asterisk there and be like, "ah, this is just what the Chicken believes." And as always with my practice posts - take what you like, discard the rest.
A foundational belief required for all of the below to work is that tarot cards are like miniature shrines, each one perfectly aligned to one of seventy-eight spirits. Like many shrines, while they may contain the vibe, the spirit or god must actually be invited to dwell there before they truly arrive.
That being said, let's get to it.
Record Keeping
Given the large numbers of cards in a deck, record keeping is especially advised.
I recommend a binder with exchangeable pages or a text document.
There are lots of things you could record. You do not need to record all of them or every interaction with the tarot spirits. However, here are some ideas of things you might want to keep track of:
The date you originally evoked the spirit back into the card
General vibes or impressions
Special or significant interactions
Transcriptions of information-dense conversations
The spirit's own input as to what they represent
The spirit's own input as to their magical abilities
Preferences of the spirit - if they like to be called at certain times, if they prefer certain offerings, if they only like to work with certain situations, and so on.
Symbols, sigils, barbarous words, signatures, or special names the spirit gives you in order to work with it more deeply.
I very much recommend at least writing down the spirit's preferences (super rude to ask a spirit what kind of incense they like, and then just forget about it and keep doing whatever regardless).
I extremely recommend copying down any special signs the spirit gives you to call on it.
Meeting and Communing with the Spirits
Consecrate and evoke the tarot spirits into your physical cards. (This is neither a guide on consecration nor evocation, nor of divination or magic proper... do not expect detailed steps from this post).
If you want to form a really close relationship with your deck, I recommend you do them one at a time and spend time getting to know each spirit or power within the card before you move on.
Like yeah, there's 78 cards, it'll take a long time. But also, you won't have to find a new thing to do for like 2 years ^-^;;
Pick any card to start with. Ideally, pick a card you vibe with or are interested in. Invite the spirit to hang around. Start hanging out with it.
Interact with and spend time with the spirits in friendly companionship. Invite them to look over your shoulder while you live your life.
If you like practicing astral travel, dream work, or spirit communication, begin traveling/dreaming/communicating with a specific card as a literal spirit.
As with all spiritual relationships, you may request communication ends at any time. You can also request that the spirit evacuate the physical card (temporarily or permanently).
As tarot was made for use by people, I find tarot spirits to generally be quite amenable to all such requests, unless you really piss them off. They're still spirits, after all, and are therefore susceptible to disrespect.
Learning Their Powers
As this guide is supposed to be about working magic with tarot, maybe you don't really care about getting to know them personally. Maybe you'd like to get down to sorcery. In which case, begin learning about the cards through your own interactions with them:
Ask cards what powers, specializations, or magical knowledge they hold.
Ask them under what conditions they will agree to help you. Note these conditions down. Do you notice that some of the cards, although they are spiritual powers, are not interested in assisting with sorcery? Or do you find they are all interested in assisting you?
Ask the entire deck for input on its own sections. Does the deck itself advise you that all the court cards do something similar in magic, while all the pips do another sort of thing? Or not?
Speak not only to individual cards, but to groups of cards. Attempt to commune with the suite of Wands, or the category of Knights. What does this tell you about the nature of these spirits and the magical powers they may provide? (If you'd like a fun one: consider that the Fool and the World are in a category of their own; the first ten MA cards are one category, and the second ten MA cards are a separate category)
Alternatively, you don't actually need to ask the cards themselves. If you're already chummy with a spirit or god of great magical knowledge, they might simply tell you these answers. How you want to come across the knowledge is up to you.
You can of course use the primary function of tarot, which is a random generator of symbolic meaning, to get to know the deck on a magical level.
Think of a situation which you'd like to work magic over. Draw a card, and either commune with it or meditate on how its powers might affect your situation, and what the end results might be.
Casting Spells
Spellcasting with tarot cards is remarkably easy. Treat the tarot card as a shrine to a spirit and petition the spirit for their help in having a specific effect on a certain situation.
I highly recommend keeping it extremely simple and using no more than three cards at once.
If you enjoy working with elements, you will note that each tarot card - including the Majors - is associated with an element. Consider the effect of filling a spellcasting space with stones and soil before you petition a Pentacle card, and so on.
I've already posted a petition spell format, so I won't go into detail here. However, consider explaining in-depth to the tarot spirit what the situation is, what needs to be done, and how you'd like them to help.
Bring taglocks for whatever you'd like to be effected and pay the spirit with gifts and offerings for its help.
Seal the spell in whatever method you normally use (I like a good Picardian Make It So, but ringing a bell or giving of offerings are good options; whatever you like, really).
Ensure that the spirit is paid for its time in whatever method you agreed on. Ever been retaliated against by a tarot card? It's not fun. Sooooo many ants
I like to leave the card on a spellcasting altar until the spell manifests. However, you don't need to. You can shuffle the cards back into the deck and use it for divination as you normally would. Do not be extremely surprised if, in the course of working magic for you, the spirit declines to show up in readings, or seems "absent" even if they do show up.
I keep one deck for spellcasting, so that while it's in use, I have other decks for divination. But it's a YMMV thing.
A Spell for Rapid Manifestation
Not getting a call back from that company? Hangout plans just not coming together? Overdue for lab results? Try this spell and see how you fancy it.
A candle of any size and color (smaller might be better)
The Eight of Wands card from any style of deck
Any taglock to the situation which refuses to progress (resume, lab bill, friend's name and phone number, etc)
An offering (a small one will do)
Prepare your spellcasting space in any way which you desire.
Consecrate, evoke, or greet the Eight of Wands in any way which you prefer.
Light the candle. Plainly explain to the candle that its job is to provide fuel to the Eight of Wands. Tell it to uplift the Eight of Wands on wings of elemental fire, so that it may swiftly accomplish all your goals.
Plainly explain to the Eight of Wands your needs. Express that you would like rapid, if nigh immediate progress on the situation: that whatever should happen next should happen immediately, and that there be no more delays. Explain your taglock: "this is from the lab that won't send me my results, they are the ones who need to act." Etc.
Tell the Eight of Wands that the power of the candle constitutes part of its payment, and that it may keep any excess power which it does not need to complete the spell. Request that it use the elemental fire provided to help further your goals.
Dedicate the offering to the spirit. Place the taglock, card, and candle nearby each other until the candle has finished burning. The candle may be put out and relit later, but it should all be burned (even if the spell manifests before it finishes), as you've already promised it to someone else.
Dispose of any spell remnants as you would normally like to. No special actions need to occur before you return the card to the deck.

Hades devotion 102
Part 5- Upscaling your practice
(The entire Hades devotion masterpost)
If you reached here you probably initiated some kind of interaction with Hades by now. The relationship with our deities usually starts with a casual acquaintance at a business event. You stepped into a room full of strangers, walked around holding a glass of wine, and heard many snippets of conversations. When you found something that caught your attention- the Gods themselves, the topic of their discussion, the “business” opportunities they can offer you (by that I mean of course the business of spiritual development), or just plain good old-fashioned curiosity. Some of these relationships turned out to be a one-time interaction, maybe a tip or a lesson. But some of these relationships went on to be something more- a truly deep connection you carry with you wherever you go.
All the terms I use in this part of used sometimes interchangeably by different people. This is my own personal interpretation of them, take them as it resonates with you or not at all.
How does a relationship with a deity is starting out?
Well, in the beginning, everything is more official. You might be having an easier time reciting a written prayer, offering by-the-book offerings, and using known forms of divination to communicate. You might start a routine of prayers and rituals, and build up your own records of experiences (“How I felt after offering dark chocolate to him?”), and your own associations (like a private joke you had that associated Hades with bears for some reason). The point is to build kharis, to feel this reciprocity. This should not feel completely one-sided for long periods of time (even though in my case I spent 8 years of one-sided devotion).
At this point you can feel like you are a follower,as opposed to a practitioner who honors him occasionally.
Those first steps are valuable. Follow your insights, gather them, study them, and analyze them. Research your own experience in this worship like a laborant. This will make it easier to learn more and deepen the relationship.
Worth-relationship
I once read somewhere that “worship” is a portmanteau of the words “worth” and “relationship”. I don’t know if that is true in any way, but I like the poetic sense of it and I agree. Our devotion should have some kind of worth to us. Worth can be an actual gain of spiritual lessons or progress you wished for, but it can also be just the comforting feeling you get while you pray. In a kind of deity-worshipper relationship I feel like it should be clear what you derive from it, and what are you in this connection for. Gods are not vending machines and not ingredients in a spell jar, but the effect they have on our daily life is so incredibly heavy and nothing less than transformational- before we go deeper into one of those relationships, we should understand what it stands for. If you figured it out, and you are willing to keep this thing going, you can call it devotion, or being a devotee. You are no longer a follower, you took the active decision to participate in a reciprocal partnership.
At this point, you might want to add more and more elements of your spiritual practice into your daily life. You’d want in immerse yourself in this experience and have the effects of it on every aspect of your life. This is a great time to select a few devotional acts to incorporate into your practice- start a new hobby dedicated to your Gods, and try to actively promote what they stand for. It can also be a great time to create connections with other devotees and work together on things related to your worship. Some people choose a professional path that aligns with their Gods, some choose a major based on that. Some people choose to sell their things and go live in a forest. No one can guarantee us we are doing the right thing for us, but no one but us can learn our lessons, and trusting our Gods to lead us to the best lessons for us out there, is a good way to go.
This could also mean that your narrative about your life story might alter and get some new adjustments based on the spiritual context. You are no longer living two separate narratives- the mundane one where you go to work and pay bills, and the spiritual one where you pray by your altar. Those two narratives are merged into one, enriching each other. Discernment is importamt here as in any stage of course.
End notes- Where do we go from here?
I couldn’t tell you even if I knew. When our devotion is such a big part of our lives, and the reciprocal relationship we have with our Gods is steady, there is no limit to where will go. The Gods are not some distant forces sitting on a cloud and sending us dreams, they are active participants in our lives, companions, teachers, bosses, and family members. And like human companionships, we can’t really know where things will get us. This is part of the mystery and the journey. Who we are as people will probably develop and evolve through time and adventures we will have, with our Gods and regardless of them. We can only hope that through these ties we will turn out to be better than we could've been without them.

Hi!
So I'm a (minor) young witch and I want to learn how to get into hellenism. I'm looking to pray to Aphrodite, Ares, and Dionysus particularly, but also Hestia, Thanatos, and Hera!
I kinda want to be discreet about it, because my mom is very Christian lol.
Thank you for the help!
- Anon Ziggy
Hello! I like your little Anon tag, that's kinda cool! This post will be broken into two parts, the first is about Hellenism and how to get into it, and the second part about broom closet witchcraft.
==-🏺HOW TO GET INTO HELLENISM🏺-==
--=-==-=--What is Hellenic Polytheism?--=-==-=--
Hellenic Polytheism is the modern recreation of Hellenism, the ancient Greek religion. It is an open pantheon/practice, and anyone can get into it.
Hellenic Polytheism is a partially animistic religion, believing in nature spirits and treating all things with respect, including plants and inanimate things found in nature (rocks, the wind, water, etc.). The Hellenic Pantheon is made up of these nature spirits, the Twelve Olympians (link), the cthonic deities, and the lesser gods.
I recommend looking at this webpage to learn about traditional Greek religion. Keep in mind that while it's 100% okay to not do things exactly as they were done in the past, it is important to keep things in mind the cultural context and history of Hellenic Polytheism.
--=-==-=--How do I start?--=-==-=--
"Step one" on becoming a Hellenic Polytheist is to decide how you want to go about worship. Do you want to worship Greek deities, or do you want to work with them (link , link)? What is your view on cleansing yourself before interacting with the gods? Do you want to work with every god and deity from the Greek pantheon, or just a select few? Figuring these things out will give you a place to start.
As I mentioned above, some people decide to cleanse themselves before interacting with the gods. It isn't necessary, but it is a huge sign of respect. You can go about this the traditional way, by making khernips (link), or just by washing your hands and face.
The next big step would be to research the deities you want to work with. Find out what appropriate offerings are (like bay leaves for Apollon), their mythology, festivals for them (Aphrodisia for Aphrodite), associations with them (mint and Hades), and any customs that are common with them (honoring Hestia first and last).
I would also learn or at least read their traditional hymns and media (poems, plays, etc.) created for them. You can even make some for them yourself!
As for praying, here is a great video on praying in Hellenism, here is a great video on altars, and here is a good one on offerings.
--=-==-=--🤫 Secret Witch Tips 🤫--=-==-=--
This post is already a million words long, so we're going to rapid fire some broom closet witch tips.
Travel altars! These can be made in an Altoids tin, a small box, a shoe box, or anything else! Let me know if you need ideas on small things to go into a travel/mini/hidden altar.
Digital worship! Check out this post on virtual worship
Subtle witchcraft. Can be done through glamour magic, art magic, kitchen witchery, affirmations, taking care of nature, or any other small form of magic that makes you feel centered, connected to the earth and universe around you, or honors your guides and deities.
Get plants! Taking care of plants is a great witchy thing to do, and you can dedicate a plant to a deity and take care of the plant as an offering to them
Get e-books, read articles, watch videos, and listen to podcasts on witchcraft.

A **VERY** brief introduction to the Twelve Olympians of ancient Greek relgion
Zeus- Also known as Jupiter, he is the king of the gods. He is recognized as the god of the sky, lightning, law, and justice. Zeus is infamous for his many affairs with mortals and goddesses alike!
Hera- AKA Juno. She is the queen of the gods, second only to Zeus himself. She is not only Zeus’ wife, but also his sister (which is really gross, but ancient Greece was a different place with different ideologies then we have now). Hera is the goddess of women, marriage, family, and childbirth.
Poseidon- Known also by the Roman name Neptune, he is the god of seas, hurricanes and earthquakes, horses, water, and storms.
Demeter- With the Roman name Ceres, as a goddess of agriculture, she is one of the most revered goddesses of ancient Greece. She is the goddess of agriculture, the harvest, nature, and the seasons.
Athena- Known by the Romans as Minerva, is a goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and war. She is one of the three virgin goddesses.
Apollo- His Greek and Roman names are both Apollo. Twin brother of Artemis. He is the god of light, prophecy, art, music, poetry, healing, disease, and a protector of boys and men.
Artemis- Twin sister of Apollo and known as Diana to the Romans, she is a protector of women and girls, children, and animals. She is the goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, the moon, childbirth, protection, and plague. She is one of the three virgin goddesses.
Ares- Also called Mars. He is the god of war, violence, and bloodshed. His Latin name gave us the word “martial” (as in martial arts).
Aphrodite- Aphrodite, known by the Roman name Venus, is the goddess of love, fertility, beauty, sex, passion, and desire. She is the namesake of the word “aphrodisiac”
Hephestus- Hephestus, or Vulcan, is the god of fire, volcanos, the forge, and craftsmanship. He is the master craftsman and blacksmith of the gods. His Roman name, Vulcan, is what gave us the word “volcano”.
Hermes- Also known as Mercury, is the messenger of the gods. He is the god of thieves, borders, travel, communication, and games.
Either Hestia or Dionysus- Hestia and Dionysus (Vesta and Bacchus) are used interchangeably as the 12 olympian. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth, fire, homes, domesticity and family. Dionysus is the god of wine, the vine harvest, fertility, madness, ecstasy and resurrection.

Hey 🩷 I feel drawn to Aphrodite but at the same time I’m a bit insecure. I mean, sometimes I think about becoming her devotee but I don’t feel good enough for her, you know what I mean? Like she’s the goddess of beauty and I feel like I should be extremely extremely gorgeous in order to be her devotee. I’m not saying I’m insecure about my appearance, all I’m saying is that I’m insecure about approaching her. Do you think she would accept me?
Hello Anon! I think she will ABSOLUTELY accept you as a devotee. The gods don't care what you look like, they care about you and you doing your best to honor them.
I totally understand though, with not feeling beautiful or handsome enough to be an Aphrodite devotee. But I promise you, she wouldn't deny you as a worshiper or devotee due to your looks.
Say, for some very odd reason, Lady Aphrodite is offended by you "looking bad". You still have lots to offer her in the way of offerings, energy, prayer, spreading her teachings, etc.
Don't worry, and give worshiping her a try if it's what calls to you! If anyone is interested in a guide to working with Aphrodite, let me know and I can make one!

Hey! Not sure if you take asks or not, but do you have any advice for a baby witch?
YES! First, asks are always open, and I appreciate you sending one! Secondly, of course I have some advice! Let's get into it!
(1) Decolonize your craft
Decolonizing your craft is essential to witchcraft. Making sure you don't take part in practices that are closed to you, and making sure that you don't use tools/methods/items that are sacred to cultures you aren't a part of is SO IMPORTANT!!! This is where I would recommend you to start your research. Here is an excellent article on what a closed practice is, but it doesn't go too deep into specific things that are closed. I think it's a good jumping off point.
Along with respecting and educating yourself on closed practices, knowing where your information is from and what biases that information may have (good or bad) is also important. This goes along with what materials you use and where they come from (is this ethically sourced, is this a closed item, who profits off of this item, etc.).
(2) RESEARCH A TON!!!
If you're on this blog, asking this question, you're doing this! Good job! If you search "BOS" on my blog, or click -> here , you can go to my "book of shadows" tag, and see lists of ways to start your own book of shadows (aka a ton of things to research and write down)
(3) Write everything down
Going along with that last sentence, write. stuff. down! Your craft will change and grow, and even if you're just writing what you learn in your phones notes app, you will be so happy that you have that later on. It's great to see where you came from and how far you've come, and who knows, you may need that one sigil you made 3 months ago, or maybe that random spell you wrote down ages ago is exactly what you need in your current situation. Just write things down, you'll thank yourself for it later.
(4) Don't feel like you need to fit into a box
This one is very important as well! Social media witches and pretty instagram witchcraft isn't how your craft is most likely not how your practice will look, especially not when starting out. Don't force yourself to have the most perfect altar, with allllll of these beautiful, expensive tools, and all the witchy clothes and decorations, etc. etc. etc. You honestly don't need anything but your intention to do witchcraft. Don't worry about having an "aesthetic" practice. It really isn't realistic for most people.
Also, witch "types" aren't set in stone. You don't only have to be a Green Witch, or only a Hearth Witch, or only a Sea Witch. These are just fun categories, and you don't need to commit to one or the other. I consider them mostly just tags that witches use to see the kinds of content they want to see, or to categorise themselves so others know their favorite things in their practice. If you NEED a label, but can't decide, "eclectic" is an easy thing to slap onto your practice that is all encompassing while still being labeled.
These are my biggest advice points. If anyone wants more, I'm sure I can think of more, I just wanted to get this out because I was excited to get an ask, haha.
Anyways, happy witching!

Spirit Identification Tarot Spread
A friend of mine recently asked me to do a reading for them based on a spirit that’s been hanging around them lately, so I came up with this spread to help! If you’ve got a spirit (or spirits) hanging around you and you’re not 100% sure what they’re up to, I recommend giving this one a shot!
Tumblr media
1. What is the spirit’s intent? 2. How long has this spirit been around? 3. Is there anything specific that this spirit wants me to know? 4. Does this spirit want to work together in the long-term? 5. If they do want to work together, what do I need to do/how can I make this relationship happen?
Of course, feel free to play around with the questions and tweak them as needed. Hopefully this helps some of you!
Friendly reminder that you can view exclusive content, gain early access to my content, and tons of other perks over on my Patreon for only $2 a month!

lil’ pagan tip/idea- dedicate a journal to your deity!
a journal can be useful for a lot of reasons. not only it is an easy way to feel closer to your deity or deities, but it can be super convenient if you’re a person who travels a lot or need to worship in secret.
things to write or put in your journal could include:
prayers
pressed flowers/leaves/herbs
sketches or doodles of things that remind you of them
devotional poems or art pieces
song lyrics
experiences you’ve had with them
dreams they’ve sent you
recipes
stickers
spells / rituals (especially ones you have done or would want to do with them)
photos
notes on offerings and devotional acts
list of crystals, herbs, colors, etc. you associate with them
and these are only a few ideas :)
the journal can also work as a mini-altar that you can put offerings on! since taking care of myself is one of the ways i honor my deity, sometimes i’ll place a glass of water or juice on the journal i have and i can keep it next to me to sip from while i’m doing something. again this can be really helpful if you travel a lot, worship discreetly, or if you don’t have a lot of space for a full altar.
additionally, you can dedicate a few pens or markers to your deity too (because everything is better with fun colors!)
