Hey! Not sure if you take asks or not, but do you have any advice for a baby witch?

YES! First, asks are always open, and I appreciate you sending one! Secondly, of course I have some advice! Let's get into it!

(1) Decolonize your craft

Decolonizing your craft is essential to witchcraft. Making sure you don't take part in practices that are closed to you, and making sure that you don't use tools/methods/items that are sacred to cultures you aren't a part of is SO IMPORTANT!!! This is where I would recommend you to start your research. Here is an excellent article on what a closed practice is, but it doesn't go too deep into specific things that are closed. I think it's a good jumping off point.

Along with respecting and educating yourself on closed practices, knowing where your information is from and what biases that information may have (good or bad) is also important. This goes along with what materials you use and where they come from (is this ethically sourced, is this a closed item, who profits off of this item, etc.).

(2) RESEARCH A TON!!!

If you're on this blog, asking this question, you're doing this! Good job! If you search "BOS" on my blog, or click -> here , you can go to my "book of shadows" tag, and see lists of ways to start your own book of shadows (aka a ton of things to research and write down)

(3) Write everything down

Going along with that last sentence, write. stuff. down! Your craft will change and grow, and even if you're just writing what you learn in your phones notes app, you will be so happy that you have that later on. It's great to see where you came from and how far you've come, and who knows, you may need that one sigil you made 3 months ago, or maybe that random spell you wrote down ages ago is exactly what you need in your current situation. Just write things down, you'll thank yourself for it later.

(4) Don't feel like you need to fit into a box

This one is very important as well! Social media witches and pretty instagram witchcraft isn't how your craft is most likely not how your practice will look, especially not when starting out. Don't force yourself to have the most perfect altar, with allllll of these beautiful, expensive tools, and all the witchy clothes and decorations, etc. etc. etc. You honestly don't need anything but your intention to do witchcraft. Don't worry about having an "aesthetic" practice. It really isn't realistic for most people.

Also, witch "types" aren't set in stone. You don't only have to be a Green Witch, or only a Hearth Witch, or only a Sea Witch. These are just fun categories, and you don't need to commit to one or the other. I consider them mostly just tags that witches use to see the kinds of content they want to see, or to categorise themselves so others know their favorite things in their practice. If you NEED a label, but can't decide, "eclectic" is an easy thing to slap onto your practice that is all encompassing while still being labeled.

These are my biggest advice points. If anyone wants more, I'm sure I can think of more, I just wanted to get this out because I was excited to get an ask, haha.

Favourite part of dipping into witchcraft is that there’s literally no rules cause it’s literally whatever you think helps the universe or yourself to meet your goals/wants

Like sure there are graphics of like “this is what candle colors mean” “this is what all the herbs mean” “this is what all the cards mean”, but you can just do what feels right, make shit up if it feels correct, it’s literally just about following intuition so your personal ideas of what the candle colors mean or whatever can be the total opposite of everyone else’s and you’re both correct

Anyways, I’m finally collecting all my witchy ideas of things into a notes app note for my brain :)

Witches! I need advice - NSFW under the cut.

Look, this is a bit of a random one but I need other people's opinions on if I'm just kind of overreacting a bit and worrying for nothing - or if there's actually some merit in this.

A guy (an ex-Catholic, non-witch) who I'm kind of talking to online is of the group of people where they name... everything. Genitalia included. He's named his penis, and my vulva after two prominent Gods, and then my breasts after fictional characters. I've always thought that trend was a bit weird and while it never made me uncomfortable, I have found it a bit cringy. Said nothing, though, because I don't want to offend him. Like, before today I never really thought anything of it. Anyway...

You know when people say to other people, "oh you're prettier than [insert Goddess of love and sex here]" and then that Goddess gets super offended and bad things happen?

Like, we're both struggling with relationships and sex, I have never had a decent lay since he started doing this... is it possible that these two things are correlated? Or does he just have no game and I pick the wrong guys?

I have fluorite that I carry with me when I’m studying and when I take the test, if I’m struggling with a subject I rub my hand over it

I draw sigils on my thighs before an exam for good luck and success

I do a spell for good academics and focus before the semester begins

If I feel like I don’t know how to approach a topic I pull some tarot cards

I meditate and ground myself the night before

I cleanse my study space after big exam weeks to get some new energy in

I like to thank my deities when the exams are over

I always remember intention and work needs to be put into every spell and manifestation

What if we collectively buy a plot of land and build a giant, polytheistic temple for all the Pagans in either a Gothic style to take the piss out of Christianity (and also because I love that architectural style) but inside the temple there are different rooms dedicated to the different pantheons in the architectural style of the country they originate from, Norse pantheon in a Scandinavian room, Greek pantheon in a Greek room etc. etc.

Now we have a place of worship in the centre of the country for everyone to go and worship "traditionally", and then make friends with people who also worship the same deity as them!

Then we can form cults centred around specific deities with all our friends and then resume ritual sacrifices to appease the gods at Stonehenge.

We should do this.
