Books I think I'd Like More/Less if I Reread them
Books I think I’d Like More/Less if I Reread them
Sometimes I read a book and I don’t like it, and a while later I think, maybe I just read it at the wrong time. Or I just wasn’t in the right mood. Or something like that. I’ve read a very large amount of books in my entire teenage years that I just didn’t like for no particular reason, but also the other way around. Looking back at some books I read years ago makes me rethink why I actually…

Review | By A Charm & A Curse: Whimsy and Fun at a Magical Carnival
By A Charm & A Curse by Jaime Questell is a really fun story set at a carnival and at first sight seems similar to The Night Circus, but is actually very different. Le Grand’s Carnival Fantastic isn’t like other traveling circuses. It’s bound by a charm, held together by a centuries-old curse, that protects its members from ever growing older or getting hurt. Emmaline King is drawn to the circus…

Insta-Loving Books | In which I talk about books I fell head-over-heels in love with from page 1
Do you ever read one of those books that when you’re only a few pages in you already know you are going to love it? Because I do. Sometimes I start a book and I just insta-crush on it. SO BAD. This post was inspired by my current read, which is The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven. I just started reading it today and I’ve just started it and couldn’t stop. I love it so much (as I’m writing…

Discussion | On Negative Reviews, Authors, Bloggers, and the Book Community
Why I think negative reviews are important, authors should never engage in reviews, and blogger appreciation.
I’ve actually written part of this post a while ago and then abandoned it because I wasn’t happy with how it turned out so I’m going to try again. I don’t know if it’s just me being more aware of what’s going on in the bookish community or whether things are actually changing. Only weeks ago I talked about how things were going with the international reviewers and now it seems we’ve got more to…

Review | The Hazel Wood: Dark Fairytales and Mysteries
I requested an eARC of The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert on a whim because I’ve heard a couple of blogger friends speak really highly of it, and I definitely don’t regret it! If you like to read books without knowing what they’re about exactly, I highly recommend not reading the synopsis below! Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead…

My friend Jenn did this tag on her blog and tagged me, so thank you Jenn! I didn’t know what I wanted to post about today so this is perfect timing. I don’t know who created this tag, but if you do, let me know! Let’s talk about my 2018 reading plans (and yours :P)!
1. An Author You’d Like To Read That You’ve Never Read
There are a lot of authors I’ve never read but nobody really sticks out from the others. A few I’d like to read in 2018: Sebastian de Castell, Jen Wilde, Kristin Cashore, Susan Ee, Julie C. Dao.
2. A Book You’d Like To Read
Uhm, my entire TBR, is that an option? Some examples:
(sidenote: I had no idea this thumbnail grid option actually looked good if you increased the size of the picture. I’m definitely using this more often! I can’t believe this took me over 1.5 years to figure out)
3. A Classic You’d Like To Read
I currently don’t really have any classics on my tbr except To Kill A Mockingbird (which I guess should be considered a classic?). So that’s the one I guess? I’m not even sure I will read it this year or at all but I own it so I probably should give it a shot!
4. A Book You’d Like To Re-Read
Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. Whenever I see a reference, fanart, quotes, anything about this duology I want to pick it back up and read it all over. EVERY TIME. (the worst thing is, I’ve been working on SoC art myself so I’m basically torturing myself)
5. A Book You’ve Had For Ages and Want To Read
I feel like I’ve owned The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski for ages and despite the fact that I’ve been told to read it many many times, I’ve yet to pick it up. But 2018 will be the year I read it.
6. A Big Book You’d Like To Read
I was looking through my goodreads shelf and oh my Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is over 600 pages (608 to be exact). This will kill me. Another big book I want to read it Furyborn by Claire Legrand (512pg) of which I have an eARC!
7. An Author You’ve Previously Read and Would Like To Read More Of
Shaun David Hutchinson, V.E. Schwab (I NEED IT ALL), Marie Lu and many more.
8. A Book You Got For Christmas and Would Like To Read
I got for Christmas 4 books and I’m currently reading one, but I really want to challenge myself to read more non-fiction (specifically, pop-science) so I’m going to read Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. (In case you weren’t aware yet, I’m a geek)
9. A Series You Want To Read From Start to Finish
Depending on how much I love the first book: The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski, Penryn & the End of Days by Susan Ee, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.
10. A Series You Want To Finish That You’ve Already Started
I believe Record of A Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers comes out this summer so then I can read the second and third book in this series of standalones! I’ve read The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet a few months ago and really liked it!
11. Do You Set Reading Goals? If So, How Many Books Do You Want To Read in 2018?
I’ve set my reading goal much lower than last year. Last year it was set at 100 and I read 125, this year I want to read 75 books. Because I’ll be starting my master’s and don’t want to pressure myself when it comes to reading, I’ve lowered my goal.
12. Any Other Reading Goals?
Yes! I want to read more pop-science, I want to try and read 1 non-fiction book per month from January to August. It’s already failing a little because I’m only at page 9, I think, of the first. oops.
Which books are on your must-read pile of 2018? What are your reading goals this year? Which authors do you suggest I read this year?
New Years Resolutions Book Tag | What Will I Read in 2018? My friend Jenn did this tag on her blog and tagged me, so thank you Jenn! I didn't know what I wanted to post about today so this is perfect timing.

A Guide To ARCs | #3 Digital Review Copies (aka, where to get free books + alternatives to Netgalley & Edelweiss)
In the first two parts of this series, we talked about how to get physical copies of ARCs (or Advance Reader Copies) and where you can request them. But for smaller bloggers and internationals it can be much easier to get digital copies, also known as eARCs. There are a lot of opportunities to get access to digital review copies, and the most well-known of these options are Netgalley and…

Review | It Only Happens in the Movies: The Queen of Contemporary Slays Again
It Only Happens in the Movies is the new book by Holly Bourne, which is one of my favourite contemporary authors and this book did not disappoint at all!   Audrey is over romance. Since her parents’ relationship imploded her mother’s been catatonic, so she takes a cinema job to get out of the house. But there she meets wannabe film-maker Harry. Nobody expects Audrey and Harry to fall in love as…

My Most Anticipated Books of 2018
I realize this is not exactly the most original topic to write about, I’ve seen about a hundred post like this one but you guys told me on twitter to write it so here I am! My list of most anticipated releases consists mainly of V.E. Schwab books (which sadly do not all come out this year :P) but I have plenty of others too! Most of these are from authors I’ve read before, that is because I tend…

Remember how I said I wasn’t going to read that much anymore? Well, let’s forget that for a bit because I’ve been reading so much this month! Mainly because of Riveted, which allowed people to read 25 books for one day each. That was really fun (and a little stressful). I’ve also read some other books and overall had a pretty great month! Christmas was fun (and I got a few books), and I got some eARCs, and blogging has been great too! I hope you had wonderful days too!
Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds ★★★ I liked this but it just didn’t make me feel anything and that’s the kind of book this is. It’s about a black boy whose brother was killed. (review)
Autoboyography by Christina Lauren ★★★★★ This was so cute!! I highly recommend it if you liked Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (review)
WANT by Cindy Pon ★★★★ WANT is the first book I read that is set in Taiwan and I really liked it! I read it in one day which might have been a bit too little for me to enjoy it to its fullest but it was so good!
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ★★★★ This took me forever to get through, I started it back in August but only finished it in December. It was really good, though I didn’t really like the ending, the characters were great and there was so much character development!
Girlhood by Cat Clarke ★★★★ Girlhood is set in a boarding school and is really diverse and exciting but the ending did disappoint me a little. It was really good though!
The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers ★★★★ This book was so well-written and developed, but it was also a little slow for me. I would definitely recommend it if you like space books! (review)
Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Bernard ★★.5 This felt so disappointing to me, the characters were mildly annoying, I thought the story was a bit bland and nothing really happened. (review)
The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart ★★★★ I did not expect that this was a horror novel so imagine my surprise when I found out it was! It was surprising, atmospheric and really different from anything I’ve read before! (review)
It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne ★★★★★ This was so perfect! Holly Bourne proved herself again by writing such an amazing feminist story! (review to come)
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert ★★★★ I didn’t know at all what I was getting into when starting this book, but it definitely didn’t disappoint! Magical, dark and fairytale-ish writing and an intriguing plot! (review to come)
Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin ★★★★.5 This was a perfect conclusion to Wolf by Wolf and I love it so much! I even loved the historical aspect: the alternative history of what if Hitler won the war? was so well-written! The characters amazing and flawed and I love Yael!!
In December of 2017 I added to my tbr:
Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody moved from my anticipated-releases to my to-read shelf because I got an eARC and I couldn’t be more excited!! I have added Artemis by Andy Weir to my tbr because it’s a) by the author of The Martian (which was amazing) and b) it’s about a badass woman on the moon and c) I have been told it should be considered New Adult and I want to read more NA! Scythe by Neal Shusterman sounds amazing which is a fantasy about assassins and it’s set in a utopian world. I received an eARC of More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer and I don’t really remember what it’s about but I remember that it sounded interesting! And I got To The Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey for Christmas which is completely out of my comfort zone but I’m curious to see what it’s about! (ps this cover is gorgeous, why don’t I have that one?)
January TBR
I made a list of all the books I had on my physical tbr and I let my twitter friends randomly pick numbers and I’d read the corresponding books. So above you can see all the books I will try to read in January! I added a few myself (By A Charm and A Curse, which is an eARC, and Strange the Dreamer because I’ve been wanting to read it for so long!).
How was your December? Did you read any of the above-mentioned books? Any books you think I will love from my TBR? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them!
December Wrap-Up Remember how I said I wasn't going to read that much anymore? Well, let's forget that for a bit because I've been reading so much this month!

Review | The Sacrifice Box: I was not prepared for this
The Sacrifice Box by Martin Steward is a YA horror book (whelp) with its fair share of gruesome murderous ehm… things? animals? corpses? and gore, but also with a fun cast of teens! Sep, Arkle, Mack, Lamb and Hadley: five friends thrown together one hot, sultry summer. When they discover an ancient stone box hidden in the forest, they decide to each make a sacrifice: something special to them,…

10 Books that Surprised me in 2017 | The Best of 2017
Since the year is almost over, it’s time to recap all the books I’ve read in 2017. I’ve read so many amazing books this year it’s hard to create a top 10, but I’m going to try anyway. These books are not only books that surprised me (in a good way) but also books I loved so much I’d reread them right this second if I had all the time in the world (which I don’t). All of these I’ve rated at least…

A Guide To ARCs | #2 The Master Who-To-Contact List for Internationals ARC Requests
Are you an international blogger and want to request ARCs but never knew who to contact? >>
As the title suggests, I’ve created a list of all publishers that do send out ARCs to international reviewers! Of course, the publishers on this list also send out ARCs nationally so I won’t exclude those wonderful people, but mainly this list is for internationals. Since getting ARCs is often harder for internationals (see this post), and we don’t always know what our options are, I thought it…

Review | Beautiful Broken Things: In Which I Rant A Lot
I was so looking forward to reading this book because I loved Sara Bernard’s other book A Quiet Kind of Thunder. But this one just didn’t work for me. At all. I was brave She was reckless We were trouble Best friends Caddy and Rosie are inseparable. Their differences have brought them closer, but as she turns sixteen Caddy begins to wish she could be a bit more like Rosie – confident, funny and…

10 Books that Disappointed me in 2017
10 books that let me down in 2017
I’ve read a lot of books this year, some of them really hyped by the bookish community and others not so much. A lot of the hyped books I really enjoyed but others really disappointed me and didn’t live up to the hype. So in this post, I’m going to give you my top 10 books that disappointed me in 2017! Just a note, none of these books are bad (well… except one), they were usually not how I…

The Guide to ARCS | #1 Emailing Publishers - Featuring Jess from Bookends And Endings
The Guide to ARCS | #1 Emailing Publishers – Featuring Jess from Bookends And Endings
Requesting ARCs (or Advance Reader Copies) can be hard, because not only do you need the right contact details, you also need to convince the publisher you are the right person for their book. You need to show them you’re committed, have an audience and that you are interested in the book they’re going to publish. ARCs are distributed, usually, a few months before they are getting published. They…
