Also.... not friends with this person anymore🤣

So.. One of my friends showed me a text conversation she had with her boyfriend. It was quite terrifying to be honest. She told him about this gay guy in one of our classes and how he even wore makeup that day and glitter and everything. He them said she should punch him until all the glitter falls off. She said that she’s actually getting along with the guy quite well and she wouldn’t do that. He said he would do it then. She still kept telling him no but somehow found the whole situation funny. I didn’t think that that was funny at all and told her so. She then said that there was a back story to the she thing… When they walked through his hometown he tore down all the pride flags and posters and stuff. I seriously don’t know what’s funny about that and I’m seriously questioning this friendship.

Not that anyone will see this but... I live in Berlin now. Moved here 2 years ago. I belong here. Things worked out for me

I was in London with a school trip these last few days and I was almost sobbing when we left the UK. London was covered in rainbows. I felt a sense of belonging. I wasn't weird anymore. I could be openly gay. Now that I'm back home all I wanna do is go back to that. And I feel like crying.

The thing about being LGBT+ is, at some point in your childhood, no matter how accepting your parents are, at some point, you have to question: “do they love me unconditionally?” And then you have to plan for the possibility hat the answer is no. And that fucks you up. Straight cis people never have to question that.

Little things can go a long way. Both positive and negative.

I recently watched TV with my dad and it was already social distancing time but in a live TV show and there were tow guys from a music duo sitting next to each other. He complained about them not keeping distance and then I said that they might just share an appartment or something... And his comment was "or maybe even worse". (→meaning a gay relationship)

That really cut deep... As I said, little things.

I don't remember the context, but when I was in 8th grade our German teacher asked me and my friends why we only talk about gay stuff and today I can tell you, W., that it's because I AM in fact a homosexual.

I’m here, I’m queer, I’m a teacher

I don’t care if nobody else likes this or responds to this. I don’t care if nobody else reads this even. But today I had a 6th grader who doesn’t know me for shit come out to me, just cause I was there, started a GSA, and am super visibly queer. That was it. I don’t teach him, we’ve never had a conversation, he just came to a meeting Friday and came out to me today. Had never told anybody before, and if his difficulty saying the words were any indication had maybe never even said it out loud to himself before. But he told me he was gay and knowing I could provide that to even one kid is like a talisman I can hold close to my heart when my classes are crazy and won’t listen and I feel like I’m not teaching them anything. This is part of why I wanted to teach, because if nothing else having a queer brown teacher in the south is meaningful. I haven’t figured out 6th graders just yet, but at least I have this little bit of comfort. Just being here and being queer is sometimes enough
