By the Counter [2/2] (Bartender!Diluc x F!Reader)
If you haven’t read part 1, I recommend you do so first. If you did, enjoy my lovelies!
Diluc Ragnvindr, sole heir to the Ragnvindr family after his father died of heart disease years ago. He was an only son, with Kaeya Alberich being the family's ward. Diluc inherited Dawn Winery, a wine empire passed down from generation to generation which was and still is famous for their Dandelion Wine. He also runs Angel's Share, a once small bar opened by the late Crepus. Being a wine tycoon at such a young age, certainly made him well known despite people not knowing what he actually looked like. Rumour has it that he is very much indeed handsome and charismatic, making him to be one of the most sought out bachelors in the country much to his annoyance.
Although now he does wish his title as an 'eligible bachelor' serves its purpose now than ever. Marching with confident strides into Angel's Share despite how nervous he actually is. He didn't plan to take a shift tonight. No, he actually had other plans. One which did not go as how he hoped it would be. Well he should have known better than to take suggestions from Kaeya. Kaeya of all people, Archons! But Albedo too thought it would be a good idea. But then again one should know that Albedo is only interested to see how well it would go rather than hoping how well it actually goes. In summary, it is inefficient to have someone else to handle your personal affairs especially when it came to matters of the heart.
There by the counter, her figure sitting alone. Head resting on her hand while the other twirling a wine glass. Looking as bored as an idle lass during a warm midsummer afternoon. Eyes glazed, whether it be from alcohol or her simply lost in thoughts. It better not be the former, she doesn't have much tolerance for such beverages. He suppose he should warn the staff not to give her too much... But it would raise suspicions for the master to deny income and would certainly provide gossip for them. But then again he may or may not be obvious in his affections for her. Even Elzer commented on how his expression seem to soften these days. Dear Archons, he really is in love isn't he? Which is why he will fix this mess right now.
~~~~
It all started a few days ago. On a Wednesday night.
"Diluc, it's been a while since I last saw you." Albedo greeted. Taking his usual seat where he can see and chat with him. "You rarely come down on Wednesdays now."
"Hmph." was all the bartender replied as he proceeded to prepare the customer's usual.
"Well I heard from the people here that the master would come on Friday nights instead. And he often appeared to be in a very pleasant mood." Kaeya cuts in as he glided to a seat beside Albedo.
"Well what brings you here, Kaeya." the red-head giving him a stink eye. "Got dumped by another fling?"
"There are many reasons one has to drink on weekdays aside from getting dumped by a fling, Master Diluc. One example is to hear stories of another's fling." Ice cold eyes sneering at the red fiery ones.
Diluc placed down Albedo's drink. Sighing under his breath as he grabbed another glass to prepare Kaeya's usual. "She's not a fling." he muttered.
"Dear Archons, is the lone eagle Diluc Ragnvindr craving for the presence of another?"
"And are you here to cause a nuisance?"
Kaeya put his hands up, admiting he might just stoked the fire too much. "There's no need to call the security on me again. I came for my usual, Dawn Winery's infamous Dandelion Wine as you have already prepared in your hand."
If it weren't unsightly, Diluc might have just poured the bottle of wine on Kaeya's smug grin. However he knew there was some truth to what he was saying. He was craving for (y/n)'s presence these days. Hers is the dawn to his dark night. The promise of future warmth to his cold past. Her gentle cheerfulness and kindness reminiscent of the sounds of tinkling bells brought out by the light wind. Just pleasant and homely. The embodiment of lovely itself. Diluc scoffed. Look at him, speaking in sonnets now. It was a good thing he kept these thoughts to himself. God forbid Kaeya gets a hold of more substance to mock him.
"I'm actually here for a reason more than a drink." Albedo spoke up after silently observing the spectacle for quite some time. "My parents and I enjoyed the lunches and dinners we had with you the other day. And the idea of having Dawn Winery's owner as their son-in-law tickles their fancy. My father, from a business perspective as you might be aware and my mother, from a social standing perspective. Hence, what I'm saying is that they'd like you to meet their daughter- my sister, for a marriage arrangement."
Diluc did not look surprised from Albedo's perspective. Well if the slightly raise eyebrows were anything to go by at least. "You're not glad?"
It's not that he isn't happy. He was ecstatic even. However, (y/n) wouldn't like that. She had been so happy that her mother wasn't angry at her for the dinner fiasco. Also the fact that her mother hadn't been setting her up with anybody. With every visit on Friday night, she beamed so radiantly that he didn't have the heart to tell her it was him who caused it all. He wanted to tell her after the first luncheon he had with her parents but didn't get to as their conversation tended to steers towards getting to know each other's personality, her childhood and their likes and dislikes. By the end of their rendesvouz, he had forgotten about his intention. And he forgot about it again up to till the point where he didn't know how to tell her. What would (y/n) think of him now that he had been secretly (albeit unintentionally) meeting her family behind her back?
All this he confessed to Albedo begrudgingly. It was not like him to not have a plan. But Archons did this lady turned his world upside down. "I think I should tell her, this Friday."
"And I think, you shouldn't." Kaeya interrupted. Pouring himself another glass as he earned a sharp glare from Diluc. "You've come this far, might just go through it till the end. Besides, being all secretive is one of your fortes isn't it?" Also, Kaeya thinks she might be in love with him as he is to her. But he's not going to tell him that. Diluc should be getting those answers from her, not him.
Diluc glanced at Albedo. Hoping to get an insight from someone of her kin.
"(Y/n) loves surprises. But I don't guarantee if she'll like this one or not. But I suppose there is no harm to this. Regardless whether she like it or not, she's not one to disobey mother. So she will most definitely be dragged to this dinner." In all honesty, Albedo just wanted to see how it all unfolds. Sure she likes small cute surprises, but what about big life changing ones?
He had a bad feeling about this. Somewhere at the corner of his mind, a tiny Diluc lecturing him how bad of an idea this is. But Diluc has nil experience in relationships. He never had the time for it. Always occupied with maintaining the family legacy and fending off people predating on the Ragnvindr empire. He was living in a lonely world. Hence when she came into his life, bringing the sunshine with her, he didn't feel so alone anymore. Which is why he didn't want to mess this up. He nodded towards the two gentlemen with a sigh.
Come Friday as he bartends by the counter. Waiting nervously for the lady of the hour. And in she came with an obvious frown on her face. Whatever it is, this seems to call for a Dirty Shirley cocktail. She likes soda after all. Quietly she took her place, greeting him with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. Accepting the drink with a small thank you. It went on like this for a good half an hour. Both basking in each other's presence. Diluc serving his clients and (y/n) just watching him work over her drink. The clinking of glass, soft chatters of the patrons and light jazz music serving as white noise for them.
"It seems that my mother had plans after all."
Here it is.
"She was being acquainted by some gentleman. Very rich and successful than the last time. Which very much tickle her fancy."
Funny how her use of vocabulary is similar to her brother's.
"I'd hate to go to be honest. But it's not like mother will listen when she has already set this up. Heck it is tomorrow and she's only told me yesterday. I wish I could be like you. Not giving a damn about what people say. Making decisions for your own self."
"Why not just attend it." He suggested. As much Diluc would like to admit that he's the one she's meeting tomorrow, Kaeya and Albedo thought it was better otherwise. And he would have to trust what they say.
"Excuse me?" it was clear that she was offended.
"Who knows if this person really is better than the last? Maybe your mother did find a good match. And if you don't like it, you can just reject the man."
"Diluc, you do understand that me going to this dinner would be as good as me being engaged. I've told you didn't I, that corporate families like mine would have set this in stone regardless of what I think and this could only be annulled if both our families see no benefit to our union. Or if during the course of courting, we act like complete oil and water then I suppose they might consider calling it off. "
"I'm sure it'll be fine. You'll just have to disagree with everything he says then." He said reassuringly.
She looked at him dejectedly, voice faltering. "Is that all you have to say?"
Diluc was struck by confusion. What did she want him to say? With how sad she looked, he has the strongest urge to hold her hand. He wanted to tell her everything will be fine, because it will be him that she's meeting. But because it will be him that he's scared. What if she's not interested in him like he thought and if she knew that tomorrow they'll be meeting, she'll reject him now. But if she really doesn't like him, then isn't it crueler to force her like this? He hadn't thought that when Albedo hinted at him to contact their parents. All he could think of that time was not wanting to lose to her to someone else. He wanted to say something but his throat feels congested.
"Sorry, it seems I have other matters to attend." she lied. Turning her back to him and left with haste. Knowing the fact that he knew she lied.
~~~~
10 minutes before the dinner. Diluc sat in a private dining room together with his supposedly future in-laws. He fumbled with the left cuff of his dress shirt a little as they chatted about future business prospects. Albedo will be arriving late as he has another appointment before. He will also go with (y/n) inside when he arrives so Diluc could only assume she is waiting dreadfully outside. He's nervous at what she'd thought of him later. Will she be glad? Or mad?
"Mother, father, have you been waiting long." Albedo enters the room and went to kiss his mother's cheeks. He nodded towards his father and then Diluc. Taking his seat beside Diluc, he look around the table then at the door. "Where's (y/n)?"
"(Y/n)?" his mother's smile was straining. "I thought we agreed that you'd escort her in?"
"She wasn't outside, so I thought she went in already."
Silence settled upon the room.
It was cut short when a waiter entered the room. "Pardon me, I have a note for a Mr. Albedo, from a Miss (y/n)."
Before Albedo could read the folded note, his mother snatched it away from him. Skimming through it with frantic eyes before letting out a distressed wail. He took the note and read it. He wasn't laughing, no. But it was evident from Diluc's eyes that he was amused. Albedo passed the note that his darling sister wrote to Diluc.
Dearest mother, I love you so but I've had it with your arrangements. I refuse to marry this mere unknown wine tycoon whom you had set me up with for I am in love with a humble bartender. And no one can stop me. Sincerely, (Y/n)
Diluc was at the very least, baffled. He did not expect (y/n) to exhibit this level of rebellious display. And while he did feel somewhat offended to be called a mere unknown wine tycoon, he was very much flattered that she is in love with him, a humble bartender. Which brings the question, he never really did tell her that he is of the owner of the biggest winery industry and the bar that he bartended, didn't he? The story of his childhood stopped at the fact that his father died and he had an annoying adopted brother. She never asked anything more about his familial background, instantly shifted to personal interests instead.
"Oh how could our only daughter do this to us?" the mother sobbed. Snapping Diluc out of his thoughts.
"I'm really sorry to have cause you such distress ma'am." Diluc bowed his head. "If you'll excuse me, allow me to go fix this situation." he left swiftly, leaving behind the confused stares of the parents and an entertained Albedo.
Which brings him to the current situation.
After 5 minutes of standing by the sidelines, he was sure she's drunk. "(Y/n), what are you doing here?" he kept his voice steady.
"Ooh Diluc!" (Y/n) grinned. "Aren't you looking dapper today?"
"You were supposed to be at dinner."
"Did my brother sent you to look for me?" she poured another glass of wine. "Maybe I shouldn't have written that note.."
Diluc took away the bottle from her, earning scowl. "That's enough (y/n)."
"NO!" she yelled. Getting stares from the other people in the bar. Her words appeared to slur a little. "I need more for courage!"
"What would you need courage for?" Diluc inhaled. Trying to calm her down as to not disturb the other patrons. She has already done a lot, what more does she plan to do?
"A confession." she fixated her gaze on his stoic eyes, but if she leaned a little closer she might just hear how loud his heart is. "Dearest bartender of a humble background, I am but a spoiled girl from a rich family. But I love, love and loveee you so. It is almost silly that I do but it is what it is. I do not care to look for riches and success in a man, hence I will not marry that Ragigindir wine tycoon that my mother has set me up with. I want you instead, if you will have me Mr. Diluc... uh... Diluc..."
"Ragnvindr." he look at her, deadpanned. "It's Diluc Ragnvindr."
"What?"
That seemed to sober her up. Followed by the sound of glass breaking. Oh well, it's not like he will charge her for that. But hold up. Mr. Ragnvindr is the name that her mother mentioned. And Diluc's surname is....
"WHAT?"
How is it that after knowing him for more than a month, she knew his hobbies, his favourite drink, his birthday, but she did not know his surname?!
"(Y/n)-"
"How is it you never told me your last name?"
"Well, I apologize it slipped my mind. I know I should've told you. But, you never asked-"
"And you never asked for mine!"
"You are Albedo's sister so of course I already knew."
"Oh." He's got a point there. "But still," there was something that must be addressed. "was it all fun and jokes for you that you met my family already, without me knowing. Was it fun to watch me suffer yesterday?"
Oh no, she's mad. "No, it wasn't. I didn't mean to hide things from you. I wanted to tell you from the start. I was interested in you from our first meeting and I didn't know if you felt the same. And it got harder for me to tell you as time progressed. Albedo did tell me to be quick if I didn't want your mother to set you up with someone else. He and my brother thought I should only tell you today when we are formally acquainted. But all of this is still inexcusable and I can only hope for your forgiveness."
(Y/n) swears she will stab her brother later. And really, what is it with her family members interfering with her love life. But she'll deal with that later. First she must face what is in front of her. As much as how furious she is with the whole situation, she understands this to be a series of misunderstandings and miscommunications. And knowing that, she can't seem to stay mad for long.
"I forgive you. For now."
"Thank you."
"Archons, this a whole mess. How do I even begin to clean up?"
"I suggest we both go meet your parents, and explain the situation as briefly as we can. I can imagine they wouldn't be too keen to know I've approached their only daughter through informal means. Although, I'm sure Albedo has something up his sleeves. Even if he doesn't, your father doesn't seem to want to let go of a potential lifelong partnership. And I heard that your mother started talking to her friends about our union."
"True." she slipped her hand into his as they walk out of the bar.
"And I suppose you should start to learn how to pronounce my last name. It will be yours after all."

Serve at First Sight (Kageyama Tobio x F!Reader)
"I bet I can..." Hinata mumbled and narrowed his eyes at him.
"Hah?" Kageyama glared back. "What did you just say?"
"I'm not good at setting. BUT I BET I CAN HIT THE LONGEST AND FASTEST SERVE!"
"IS THAT A CHALLENGE?"
"YOU WANNA GO NOW?"
"Uh... Kageyama, Hinata, Stop messing around or else you'll get an earful from Daichi-san." Yamaguchi tries to mediate the situation. The last time the idiotic duo did something stupid, all the first years had to run extra laps. And he was not up for that today.
"No use talking to idiots Yamaguchi." Tsukki sneered. "They have an IQ capacity of a teaspoon."
Hinata stood at the line of the court, deciding to go first. Throwing the ball into the air, he jumped as high as he could. As if he were a crow that leaped into the sky. His ball managed to land a good one meter away from line of the opposite side. A loud bang resonating the court and he beamed smugly at his tall opponent. Kageyama had a ball ready in hands as he took Hinata's place. Itching to outperformed the record set by the orange-head. Closing his eyes, he briefly replayed Oikawa's diabolical jump serve from their previous practice match. He knew he was a hundred years too early to be able to do that. Doesn't mean he won't try his luck though.
With a deep exhale, he took flight. Blocking out all sounds surrounding him, save that of his squeaking shoes and the volleyball as he slapped it forward. The stinging sensation felt on his hand causing him to grin. Not quite like Oikawa's, but still powerful. This is it, it will definitely plunge further than Hinata's. And it did. The ball flew pass that one meter mark. And hit a person. Kageyama's eyes blinked twice before the situation finally seeped through his thick skull. He had hit someone's head! Suddenly he could hear his surroundings again. Hinata panicked scream. Yamaguchi running towards the unfortunate human being who fell to the ground. Tsukki trying not to laugh at this slapstick comedy.
Kageyama sprinted towards the person. A hundred thoughts running through his mind. Is the person alright? Is he going to get in trouble with Daichi for this? Where are the third years anyway? Most importantly, when was that person there? How is it he did not notice them? What were they doing there in the first place? Surely no one would actually collapsed from that hit, right? He stood behind Yamaguchi who was trying to communicate with the seemingly unconscious person. And that was when Kageyama noticed, the person was a girl. A petite girl. He kneeled beside Yamaguchi. She seemed to be a little pale.
"Hello?" Yamaguchi tapping her shoulder. "Excuse me, can you hear me?"
No reply.
"KAGEYAMA KILLED SOMEONE!" Hinata hollered.
"What are you going to do now Kageyama?" Despite knowing that she only passed out, Tsukki decided to humour Hinata.
"I'll take her to the nurse's office." Immediately he carried her and jogged out of the court. Hoping not to run into anyone. Especially Daichi.
He couldn't help but glance at her face every three seconds. Wondering if she will wake up midway. But she didn't and that worried him more. If it weren't for her soft faint breaths he would have thought that he actually committed manslaughter with his jump serve. Besides, she has such a small frame. He was afraid if he really did break her. Kageyama held her closer to his body. Noticing how she fit snugly in his arms. And when looked closely, she's actually really cute. A blush spread quickly all over his face. What was he thinking? He doesn't even know her.
~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/n) blinked slowly. Feeling slightly dazed.
She woke up late today, all because of that stupid extra Japanese literature homework that had to be submitted during first period. And because she woke up late, she skipped breakfast. She wanted to get something during lunch, but had to drop by the school library to return some books that were due today. Well what do you know, apparently everyone needed to return their books today. If she had known she would've asked her friends to at least get her melon bread. She had about 10 minutes left before lunch ended, but she ran into her senior and was reminded to submit the club activities report today.
It was so hard to focus on classes for the rest of the afternoon. She drank lots of water in hopes to delay the impending dizziness. It was somewhat working. She only needed to wait until clubs and activities time. She'll get a sugary drink from the vending machine, then tell the club leader that she's going to head home early. But karma really had to be a bitch today. Her wallet was not in her bag. (Y/n) dreaded the fact that she might have dropped it somewhere. Searching for her wallet with this now nasty migraine is really going to be such a pain. That is until she suddenly remembered she left it in her drawer at home. She had forgotten about it amidst the rush.
(Y/n) crouched in front of the vending machine. What are the gods playing at exactly. Is it really so hard to get a single bite? Is this karma for denying Mr. Snuggles his treat last week? Well it was not her fault that he knocked over her pudding off the table! She was on the verge of tears when she heard the sound of volleyballs. Oh right, the vending machine was sort of close to the volleyball court... Didn't Yachi say she was recently the co-manager for Karasuno's volleyball club along with that beautiful senior Kiyoko. There is hope. She only needed a little money to get that small carton of drink.
She stood up quickly and regretted it. God, this migraine is killing her. With every ounce of determination she had left, she dragged her feet towards the court. Swaying a little every now and then. The sounds were getting louder, The ball hitting the court, shoes squeaking and people yelling? This is a good thing, it meant that she was getting closer. This is also a bad thing, because it's splitting her skull. Everything around her blurred as she entered the hall. Shit, where is Yachi? She took a few more steps before she felt a hard impact on her head. Dear lord that hurts like hell. And she lost all control of her body before everything went black.
"Oi." a gruff voice distracted her thoughts.
She sat up immediately. Hitting her head on the bed post in the process. She has realized by now that she must have passed out and someone from the volleyball club took her to the nurses office. It must have been this boy sitting beside her. But that still didn't mean she wouldn't be caught off guard. She has always been somewhat intimidated by the male species. Especially those tall towering ones that had to bend a little to talk to her. It's one of the unfortunate things one has to endure being 4'10 and having a small frame. People often joked that she could fit in a suitcase. Though seeing her other shorter friends did brought her pleasure, it still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people around her were giants.
"Idiot."
"Excuse me?" she glared. What's the big idea calling her an idiot out of nowhere. He was the one who surprised her. Sitting on a stool at her bedside, ain't that too close for a stranger, sir?  Who is he again? The volleyball club is pretty popular here in Karasuno after they managed to get into the finals of Inter high recently. It was unfortunate that they lost to Aoba Johsai, but everyone acknowledged what a monster the school was. Yachi said everyone felt down but it didn't dampened their spirit, for their next chance will be the Spring Tournament.
"S-sorry." the guy replied.
Dark eyes darting away from her face. She could make out an intimidating look on his face. Eyebrows furrowing sternly. Lips set on a grim line. Yet his cheeks flushed. Or was it because of the orange hue from the setting sun (she couldn't really tell), which also made his black hair glow. It dawned upon (y/n) that if he could just smooth away his frown, he would be handsome (she thinks). And if only he weren't being gruffy. Wait a minute. Tall volleyball player, black hair, intimidating frowning face but yet somehow still good looking?
"I'm Kageyama Tobio-"
"I know."
Silence... Well that was awkward.
She cleared her throat. "I'm (L/n) (Y/n). From Class 5. Um, Yachi's friend."
"Oh." Shoot. He didn't know she was Yachi's friend. What will the manager say about this. "I'm sorry. That my jump serve knocked you out."
"No no no! I was actually a little hypoglycemic. So your uh, jump serve was just the final nail in the coffin." Damn, she knew that getting hit by any ball was going to hurt. But the ball just now, it felt like it could tear her head off. Or maybe that's just an exaggeration of being starved the whole day. She realized his expression went from frowning to horrifying. "N-not that it will literally be the final nail to my coffin! It was just an expression. Maybe not a good one. Sorry I'm just bad with words when it comes to strangers. I mean not that you're an absolute stranger. It's just that- I'm sorry, I'm blabbering too much."
"Not at all!" he yelled. Ah, he got too animated. He didn't understand why. But he just thought everything about this girl is cute. From her petite stature that makes him want to shield her from the wind. To her way of talking that showed just how shy and awkward she was as how it is with him. Trying to reassure him that it was fine. He couldn't understand this sudden grip in his heart and the tingling sensation at his fingertips. Though maybe it was because he hasn't touch the volleyball for a few hours now.
Another awkward silence ensues.
"Anyways," (Y/n) was still a bit shy. She was after all talking to one of the most popular boys at school. But seeing as how he is now, she thought she could loosen up her guard a bit. "Have you seen my glasses?"
"You wear glasses?"
They rushed back together to the volleyball court. Yachi attacked her with a hug as she lamented about the news she heard from her fellow peers. Daichi scolding him to be careful next time whilst Tanaka giving him his infamous gangster glare. Hinata coming forward with his head down as he presented (Y/n)'s broken glasses. He accidently stepped on them when he was panicking, though he only realised it when she was sent to the nurse's office. Her glasses must have fallen off her head when she got hit. That hard huh. Really God, you want to test her that much today. Fine, she'll apologize to Mr. Snuggles when she gets home.
Unbeknownst to her, Kageyama felt even worse than earlier. His ball caused her to knocked out, and now it even knocked off the glasses from her head and broke it. Stuttering on his words, he apologized again. Hands balled into a tight fist. He just felt so bad. Suga noticed how dejected he sounded. But he also noticed how pink his ears were. Oh? Well even if it wasn't what he thought, there was no harm in... light teasing. Besides, they'd looked adorable together, no?
"If you really feel guilty. Then you should walk her home today." slinging his arm over Kageyama's shoulder, Suga tried to keep a neutral expression. Well there was a slight smirk, but he tried. "What if she falls down on her way home? Or run into a pole?"
"I am short-sighted Sugawara-senpai. Not blind." (Y/n) said through gritted teeth. Really these eyesight jokes should be old by now. "Besides, I will need to stop by the optic shop to have new ones made."
"All the more for him to accompany you. It will get dark soon. Might be dangerous to be walking alone with such bad eyesight."
"Oh no, I wouldn't want to burden-"
"Let's go." Kageyama interrupted. And when she declined again, he argued back. "Stop being a stubborn idiot. You still haven't eaten, you can't see well and you're so light that people can just easily carry you away."
Did he just called her an idiot for the second time in the short the period they have known each other. How rude! Not that his points were invalid. He was right. But boy does this person lack delicacy. In the end, she agreed to let him accompany her. He bought two cartons of milk from the vending machine. One for each of them, and they set off on their merry way.
~~~~~~~~~~
"No- Okay. Once again. Osmosis only works with solvents. Simple diffusion, both solvents and solutes. So in osmosis, solvents will move from low solute concentration-" (Y/n) stopped explaining when she noticed how Kageyama's brows were almost touching. His lips formed a small pout. "You know what, we have been revising for more than an hour. Let's take 5. Then continue for another hour. It's getting late and although my mum likes you, my dad wouldn't like you being in my room for too long."
Ever since that day where he sent her home, she began hanging out more with Yachi and the volleyball club. Not that she never hung out with her close friend, it's just that (y/n) felt out of place when she mingles with unfamiliar crowds. But now that every member knew her as the girl who got hit by Kageyama's jump serve, that became the basis of her acquaintanceship with the club and she got to hang out with Yachi more. And before she realized it, Kageyama has just been around her circle. Always there. Heck he has been walking her home more often now that even her mother likes him. Then they became just friends. Or she hoped it stayed that way, because she noticed her emotions began crossing unknown territories.
(Y/n) has come to learn a few things about Kageyama Tobio over the course of their friendship. One, he is an obsessed volleyball freak. A prodigy people say. But what (Y/n) sees is a person consumed by passion for the things he loves. And that isn't necessarily bad. Two, he can be quite childish. He fails to control his frustration which later comes off the wrong way whenever he expresses them. But really he means no harm, because when he is happy, he expresses them genuinely. And three, he is quite sensitive. He may want to show that he didn't care, but he actually takes things to heart. He may feel down about a comment, but he will learn to improve from it.
"Sorry."
"What for?"
"For having to teach an idiot like me."
"Oh stop it. Everyone is good and bad at something. We can't all be the perfect prodigy. That's just how things are. You may be bad at studying, but with your volleyball skills I bet you can represent Japan one day." noticing his eyes lit up, she continued. "So in order for you to attend your camp. Let's just try our best okay?"
Kageyama nodded. It was a little embarrassing to have her comforting him like this. But at the same time it brings him immense joy. When he first met her, he would get flutters looking at her cute appearance. Now, he just feels all warm and fuzzy whenever she talks to him. He liked that she didn't judge him or anyone she's ever met. She would scold him sometimes, but at the same time explained her reasoning. And he really appreciated that, how patient she was with him. It does make him guilty, but at the same time he wants to start behaving better. Is this what Suga meant when he said he has a crush on (Y/n)? Kageyama doesn't really know. He will need time to analyze everything.
"(L/n), do you have time during our Spring Tournament?" he tried looking anywhere else but her face.
"You want me to cheer on the club? Sure thing."
"Yes." Hearing her reply made him smile. With a steady gaze he stared straight into her eyes. "Watch me play, (y/n). I'll show you a really strong serve."
(Y/n) could only smile back as she felt butterflies in her stomach. "Then we better get back to studying."

By the Counter [1/2] (Bartender!Diluc x F!reader)
(Y/n) sauntered into the bar. It's not the type of place she would often frequent, but as the saying goes, there's always a first time for everything. Warm orange lights emitting from the vintage looking chandelier in the middle of the room. Dark furniture complimenting the wooden flooring. Slow jazz music playing in the background accompanied by the clinking of glassware and soft chatters of the well-dressed patrons. She thought such place felt a little too classy and homey for a mere bar, but then again it's not like she has ever been to one. Besides, she only chose to come here because her brother recommended it to her.
Now in movies, people who came alone would usually sit by the counter. It didn't take long for her to find the solo seats, they should be furthest from the entrance, close to the walls. As she took her seat, she wondered what would she get. The only alcoholic drink she ever had was the one served during parties, gatherings and dinners. In the movies, people of her predicament would often opt for 'the strongest drink you have'. She came with that in mind but now she isn't even sure what that meant or whether or not she wanted it. Her fingers fumbled with the strap of her bag, anxiously pondering her situation. Not realizing the man who called her for the umpteenth time.
A hand waved in front of her face. "Excuse me, miss?".
Startled, she quickly apologized and that was when she noticed the most striking pair of scarlet eyes she had ever seen. Striking, yet nonchalant. Perhaps tiresome even. If she thought his eyes were striking, then his hair was really something else. Very much red. Wild curls put up in a high ponytail. His face though, looked very young. And handsome if she might add. (Y/n) thought that only men as old as her eldest uncle would be a bartender. But she suppose he would be a young staff in training. Not that she's complaining to have such eye candy attending to her.
"Sorry."
"Yes, you've said that already." he replied curtly. His hand occupied with wiping a scotch glass.
(Y/n) laughed awkwardly. Trying to brush off the embarrassment she felt. As if the one she had during dinner a few hours ago wasn't enough. "Yes- sorry. Again. But what was it you were saying?"
"I asked what would you like to have." He put away the glass in his hand and took another one to wipe.
"Oh! Um..." she thought nervously. She skimmed through the dozens of bottles displayed on the shelves behind him. "the strongest drink you have. Please.".
His hands stopped moving. Gently putting down the glass and the cloth, he stare straight into her eyes. "I take it this is your first time in a bar, if not the first time actually drinking."
"I-I've had my fair share of drinking!" Her ears feeling a bit warm all of a sudden. "We had wine during dinner parties. And champagne!"
"I see." His stoic demeanor was broken with a slight raise of his lips and a tiny crinkle at the edge of his eyes. It was subtle, but (y/n) noticed it immediately.
"Well then Mr..." her eyes narrowed at him whilst maintaining a polite smile. Feeling slightly annoyed at the fact that this man seem to ridicule her.
"Diluc."
"Mr. Diluc," it crossed her mind briefly what peculiar name he has. "What would you drink in a bar then?"
Diluc chuckled softly and (y/n) decided at that moment she like the sound of his voice. It was simply gentle. "I don't drink. At least not if I could help it."
"A bartender who doesn't drink?" How interesting. "Surely one must be able to know and appreciate the tastes of the beverages being served to their customers to be a good bartender. Or is it some sort of rule imposed on junior staffs here at your workplace?"
Diluc placed a fist over his mouth as his body shook lightly. He didn't know whether to feel annoyed or amused with this young lady. And he wasn't sure whether to laugh at the workplace rule she assumed (which to be honest sounds like a good idea to start implementing) or the fact that she thought he was a junior staff. He wasn't sure how to describe her overall vibe yet he had to admit, she was somewhat adorable in a funny way. And he found that endearing. He noticed her doe like eyes looking peeved. However, her smile seemed to be that of joy now rather than the polite one she wore.
"I see the pot calls the kettle black."
"My apologies, I didn't mean to offend you. To answer your question, I simply don't drink that's all. But I can assure you that I'm no amateur in my job and I know what is being served to my patrons. So for me to better serve you, care to share what occasion that you needing for 'the strongest drink' available?"
The smile that (y/n) unknowingly had, faltered as she recalled dinner. Ah, yes. The reason why she came here in the first place. Funny how she had actually forgotten that one hour disaster in the midst of interacting with Diluc.
"I had a blind date a few hours ago." it was actually a marriage matchmaking between two corporate families but he doesn't have to know that. "And I messed it up."
"Surely it can't be that bad?" Diluc asked with a neutral tone as he continued with his interrupted task of cleaning glassware. Already back into his earlier nonchalant demeanor.
"My mother... has expectations for it." Especially since it was with the son of one of her rich country club friends. (Y/n) suppose now she will never hear the end of how her mother can never face her friends again. "She hopes to see me married."
"That... sucks. What happened during the blind date?" He paused for a moment. Noticing her pained silence. "You don't have to talk about it if it make's you uncomfortable."
"Thank you." But she did want to talk about it. She felt like wanting to rid of her uneasiness from her chest and somehow it just felt right talking to him about it. "Well, what happened was this guy turned out to be my friend's sorry excuse of an ex so I actually knew about him beforehand. I never met him, but hearing about him from my friend was enough to form my opinion on him."
"Then why bother going to this blind date?"
"Because it was my mother who arranged it."
"I see... Say, you only ever drank wine and champagne right?" his question answered with a nod. "Well, we don't know how tolerable you are with alcohol. I can only assume you're a lightweight seeing as you don't drink much and I'm not really sure if I want you to be wasted by the end of the night. But since you wanted a little bit of a kick, I think I'll whip up something simple for a first timer like you. Anyways, carry on with your story."
"Right. So our families met up for dinner today. And long story short, after dessert I passed the smoking area on my way to the restroom and overheard him talking on the phone on how I would make a better trophy wife than my friend. I decided at that moment that I would politely decline him later. But when we were back at our seats for tea, I may or may not have snapped when he began spouting nonsense about him being a good husband and being the definite model wife, like how could someone be so hypocritical and two-faced and before I know it, I was already standing with an empty teacup in my hand all the while listening to him yelling in pain and angrily pointing out that I ruined his Valentino suit."
(Y/n) was out of breath at this point. Felt like she had finished a marathon. Moments of the chaos flashed before her eyes again. The guy's parents froze with astonishment. Her parents looking very disappointed. The only one there to support her was her eldest brother. Who quickly whisked her away and have the chauffer send her to this bar. Telling her he never liked that prick anyway and that he'll always have her back. Promising he'll catch up later when he is done dealing with this matter.
"That must have been rough." Diluc was sure that this one hell of an odd blind date and that families and talks of marriage should have not been involved. Being the only one in his family left, he never had to comply to others' wishes and expectations and the only difficulty he experienced is that he only have himself to rely on. However, what (y/n) had gone through was still difficult in on it's own.
"I can't say I fully understand how you feel. But I think that what you did was quite admirable."
"The fact that I threw tea on him in front of his family?" (Y/n) felt her cheeks getting warm. He said she was admirable.
"The fact that you will not tolerate bullshit." Diluc gave her a kind smile. "Not many can actually do it. Things might look awful now, but you actually managed to dodge a bullet there. Your family will thank you for that."
"Thank you." (y/n) muttered. Her intuition was correct. Talking to him did feel right. Hell it is right!
Diluc slides a glass of pink liquid towards her. "A drink as promised. And since this is your first, it's on the house."
"What's this?" she brought the drink to her face. Smells fruity.
"A Cosmopolitan. Mix of vodka, fresh lime juice, cranberry and Cointreau." he stared at her tentatively.
She took a sip. Noting the sweet and fresh taste. "I think I might like it."
A sense of relief washed over him. He was hoping it was to her liking. "A toast to dodging a bullet I suppose." He raised a glass of purple drink.
"I thought you said you simply don't drink?" a playful grin graced her face.
"Grape juice."
"A toast it is." she laughed heartily before gulping the drink in one go. "Oh, I think I'd like more of that Cosmo. Thank you."

Albedo's eyes darted across the room. Searching for a certain young lady. Being a frequent customer of this bar he knew the layout very well. His gaze stopped when he finally detected his target. With brisk steps he approached the counter. There he sees his little sister resting her head on the table. A black waistcoat draped over her sleeping figure. He was about to wake her when his wrist was grasped.
"I'm sorry but are you acquainted with the young lady?"
"Yes Diluc." Albedo smiled politely. "She's my sister."
Diluc stared at Albedo for a few more minutes before letting his wrist go. They don't look alike. But that polite smile seemed to be a family trait.
"Is this the how you should treat a loyal patron of your establishments, Diluc?" Albedo said, only to be responded with an annoyed look. "I was merely joking. Don't take it too seriously. You know how much I enjoy hanging out at your bar. The ambience is relaxing and comfortable to my liking."
"I didn't know you have a younger sister."
"There are a lot of things you don't know about me." the polite smile never leaving his face. Yet his eyes twinkled in mirth. "(Y/n), wake up now. (Y/n)? Ah, she's out cold. I guess I'll have to carry her home. I believe this is yours."
Diluc took the black waistcoat. So her name is (y/n). He didn't get the chance to ask her earlier. (Y/n), he'll remember it. He silently hope that she would visit again. He found that he enjoyed her company and her presence seemed to bring him joy. But the only reason she came was because needed to drink her troubles away. Will she want to visit again when her problems have been solved. He sincerely hoped she does.
"My sister is quite the charming young lady, isn't she?" Albedo didn't miss the way the bartender was gazing gently towards her. "I don't think you're a prick. And being a wine tycoon, I'd say you're on par with our family."
There goes that tiresome look again. "Your point?"
"I'm just saying." Albedo chuckled before carrying (y/n) on her back. "You have my number right? If you're not quick, mother might just set her up with another man."
With that Albedo left the bar, humming a happy tune to himself. Leaving Diluc to continue his duties behind the counter. And Diluc thought of the business card Albedo left him and how he might have to free his schedule for next weekend.
So by popular demand, here’s part 2

A Christmas Miracle
A cold winter night, with lights from shops and street lamps illuminating the square. From each shop, you can see colourful decorations of shiny or glittery ornaments and green garlands. Jolly voices singing blessed songs about the holidays, blasting from the speakers. Drowned out by the chatter of city folk as their feet hustle along the walkway. Each and every one of them dressed in layers to keep themselves warm. Vapour from their mouths rising and disappearing into the sky. Colliding with gentle fluffy snow that fall ever so lightly. So many movements at this moment which people called Christmas Eve. Amidst all of this, an angel watches over them silently.
Simeon sat on one of the benches. His gloved hands tucked away in the pockets of his long grey coat. A white scarf wrapped around his neck, showing people how warm he felt. Well, winter in the human world wouldn't be that cold for angels. But he had to dress the part. The last thing he wanted was people staring at him for dressing so lightly and he was also well aware that his usual angel garb would definitely defy the fashion standards of the human world. He had to admit, he's doing pretty great to camouflage himself among the humans. Still, he somehow earned a few stares. Their gaze kept darting between him and the ground. Was there something on his face? He took a glimpse of his reflection on one of the windowed stores, nothing seemed to be strange.
The angel tilted his head to the sky and leaned against the bench, waiting for his coworker. Every angel of the Celestial Realm was assigned by Michael to spread Father's blessing to the humans on Earth. Simeon and Luke were assigned to this bustling city. They had started from the church and went around the streets and buildings. For every person they pass will receive the blessing. Simeon rarely worked alongside Luke, but he can already tell that they will get along fine. Luke might be boisterous and opinionated at most times, but that is because he is honest, genuine and has a strict set of values. Simeon can see why Micheal has him under his wing. Hence he looks forward to be Luke's partner in the future. Before Luke, he was always working together with Lucifer.
A deep sigh escaped his lips. Simeon wondered how Lucifer is doing in Devildom. How long has it been since The Great Celestial War. Decades? Centuries? He suppose it has been a few hundred years. He couldn't really be bothered anymore to keep track of the exact time. Despite how the situation has cooled down since then, he knew Father was still a little angry at Lucy. He was after all the Lucifer Morningstar, a magnificent and beautiful angel. To think that he would wage a war against Father and going as far as becoming a demon. However, Simeon was well aware of the reason behind the war. Perhaps Lucy too is still mad at Father until this very moment. Simeon just hoped that he was no longer angry at him.
It was never his intention to have made his brother into his enemy. However, during that time they both had very different opinions. Lucifer would forsake the rules of Celestial Realm for love and Simeon believed that the laws existed for a reason and are to be abided. Yet, as those long years passed he wondered whether it was truly worth it. He did not regret holding on to his belief. It happened, his choice had already been made. And as he closed his eyes he could see the deep wounds from both parties. Arrows fell upon them all like rain and weapons clanging in their ears. He could hear cries of battle and agony. The metallic smell of blood and how smoke choked their lungs.
"Simeon."
The angel opened his eyes. He noticed a blond boy standing in front of him. "Are you done, Luke?" he asked, eyeing the big fancy red paper bag.
Luke lifted the bag towards Simeon. "There were a lot delicious looking sweets in there. So I tried getting a little bit of everything including the one that Michael wanted."
Of course Michael would ask Luke to get human world confectionaries. That darn sweet-toothed angel. But Luke seems to be getting a fair share for himself too. Baking is his hobby after all and sampling sweets from another realm would certainly add to his ever growing list of recipes.
"Is there something wrong, Simeon?" Luke stared at him with his big blue and yellow eyes.
Simeon smiled gently. "Nothing Luke. I'm just feeling a little tired."
"Oh... let's go back then."
They both strolled among the crowd. Simeon would like to hold Luke's hand so he would not get lost, but got scolded by the young angel instead. Grumbling about treating him like a little kid when he was in fact already serving directly under Michael. Simeon could only listen quietly in amusement. He was mesmerized with the twinkling decorative lights draped over the leafless trees dusted with snow. Admiring how the humans managed to find beauty even in the bleakest object. Everything was already aesthetically pleasing in the Celestial Realm. However, at times he found it hard to appreciate the beauty of his environment. Not that he did not appreciate Father's creation. It just felt different after whom he considered his brother, left.
"Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!"
They passed the centre of the city square where an old man sat under a huge decorated pine tree. The man was big. He had a thick white moustache with a long beard that reached his chest. He was donned in a red coat with furry white collar and cuffs. His trousers were also red with white fur cuffs. A red hat with a white furry pompom attached was sitting on his head, it looked like a nightcap to Simeon. The only thing not red and white was the black leather belt and boots he was wearing. This old man was sitting on a lounge chair with a line of children in front of him. Simeon wondered what on earth is going on.
"It's Santa Clause!" Luke exclaimed.
"Santa Clause?"
"Children of the human world believe that this old man called Santa Clause would grant any wish they had for Christmas. He has a factory in the north pole and hundreds of elves work for him. Most of the time children asked for toys but in the movies sometimes people wish for Christmas miracles."
Simeon stared at Santa Claus for a moment before making eye contact with Luke. "Do you want to go meet Santa Clause?"
"Simeon! Don't treat me like one of those human kids. I'm an angel and I'll have you know that I-" Luke began to chastise as he stomped away from the square.
Simeon apologized as he scurried after him. Chuckling softly as his ears endured another one of Luke's grumbling. At the same time, he found it funny how human children put faith in such make believe, though they had always been imaginative beings. He could also see how this was a capitalistic marketing strategy in the human business world. The toys and the movies. A franchise after the infamous Santa Clause. The idea of it all was intriguing. A being that could grant whatever you want for Christmas. It's like Father, but the once in a year fairy tale like holiday version. And the idea of a Christmas miracle that comes with it.
There is a nice ring to it. For thousands of years, humans had always asked for miracles. An event that could change their lives for the better. Or even something that brings assurance to their rocky hearts. And the idea of a miracle that happens with Christmas does give a special feel to it. Miracles don't always happen on the spot, or they could never happen at all. Yet humans still ask for it. They hoped for it. Simeon looked at the stars in the sky and wondered. Father had granted some of the miracles that humans wished. If an angel were to ask for it, would Father grant it too? He didn't know any angels that had asked for a miracle. That was because there was never a need to, everything they needed and wanted was already there in the Celestial Realm. Everyone is happy and content there. Except for Simeon.
There was something in the Celestial Realm that he wanted but does not exist there. Or at least what he wanted was in a different realm. But would Father allowed it? Simeon's heart began to beat faster in both excitement and nervousness. He did not know whether he should ask for it or not. But tonight is Christmas Eve isn't it? The night where Father tells them to spread his blessings to every being on earth. Simeon at this moment is walking on earth. And a Christmas miracle is also a blessing right? Right?! The angel took a deep breath and whispered a little wish to his heart. A feeling of relieved washed over him and his shoulders began to feel lighter than before.
It was only a few minutes later when he thought everything was rather ridiculous. He did not get the sense that something amazing was about to happen. The atmosphere was the same as it had been hours ago. Well, he suppose that all he needed to do was really acknowledge that he was still very much upset over the fact that Lucifer left the Celestial Realm and that his scars had not yet healed. And that he really did regret some of his choices. He should really accept the outcome already and start moving forward. Besides, now he has Luke. And he swears he will try to be a good mentor and brother figure to the young angel.
Simeon and Luke had finally reached the Celestial Realm after a lot of detouring in the human world. Simeon couldn't wait to get home and rest. It certainly has been a long day for all the angels. Luke has invited him to taste the confectionaries he bought earlier. He seemed extra jubilant to return. Hugging the paper bag that was a little too big for his size. Simeon had offered to carry it, but Luke insisted it was his duty to have the sweets delivered to Michael personally and he will see through it. Which reminds Simeon, he would like to have a word with Michael about his habits of having people get him his large amount of souvenirs. Though, he wasn't sure how to approach his superior about. Lucifer would have easily told Michael off... or not.
At a distance, one of the angels called out to Simeon and Luke. She approached them immediately and relayed her message. Apparently Michael was waiting at their humble abode and wishes to see them as soon as possible. Luke cheered and skipped off happily while Simeon internally groaned. Seems that the guardian angel of confectionaries could not wait for his sweets and pastries. He swears one day he will think of a way to tell him off. Luke seems to not mind however. So now he's not sure what exactly he needed to tell Michael. Perhaps if Luke feels alright about it then everything is well?
"Simeon!" Michael greeted him, a Belgium waffle in his hand. "You took your sweet time."
Was that pun intended?
"I'm sorry for the delay Michael. But it seems that Luke has already arrived with your sweet delicacies." Simeon motioned towards the said waffle.
"Yes, I was waiting for this." he popped the remaining waffle into his mouth and chewed quickly. "But that's not the only reason why I wanted to see you both."
Was it not?
Michael handed him a letter. "I received this today and I believe both you and Luke are suited for this."
Simeon took the envelope carefully. On the back of it the name of the sender surprised him, Lord Diavolo of Devildom. Wasn't he the son of the Demon King. If Simeon remember correctly, the last time he saw the Demon King was a thousand years ago during a ceremony. Now, what could the future king of Devildom possibly want from Michael or even the Celestial Realm? Surely this isn't a Christmas greeting card like the ones he had seen in the human world. He turned the envelope over and saw a seal with initials R.A.D..
