A woman purchased this gorgeous angora jacket on Friday but returned it today expressing that she couldn’t wear it if it was angora rabbit fur and not goat. Despite being aware that the garment was just labelled as angora at the time of purchase she insisted on a refund, citing that consumer law entitled her to one. I explained that since the garment is vintage and is not defective, we do not offer refunds for change of mind and instead offered an exchange or credit note. She refused. Long story short it’s now back in store and I know it will be well loved by the next person who touches and appreciates the exquisite soft fluffy fur. . . . As a refresher, here’s the relevant section of Australian Consumer Law: “Refunds for change of mind. Generally, a store does not have to give a refund or replacement if a customer simply changes their mind about a product. Under the Australian Consumer Law, the customer is only entitled to a refund or replacement for a major problem with a product covered by consumer guarantees.” . . . Our regulars will know that we are reasonably flexible particularly with items purchased as gifts, but would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we are but a humble little business so please understand if we can’t always offer refunds.
