The (ephimeral) success of solo projects on Chapter 2
I wanted to write a post about chapter 2 and Jimin, the "sabotages"... but I don't know if I'm able to sort out the facts and my ideas or judgements about them properly. Nothing is clear to me yet.
There are days when a part of me believes that something is going on with Jimin and Hybe (or BH, I don't know which). But there's another part, the rational part, the part that works as an economist for 20 years, that knows that it doesn't make much sense for a for-profit company to boycott one of its most valuable assets.
In the Executive Boards, and in financial planning, decisions are made on the basis of economical evidence, which is always provided by current numbers (or estimates), not by the heart. Maybe even in the case of BTS there is some sense of fairness, I would say, at the outset. And not an asymmetric distribution according to profit projections.
In the trade-off I find myself in, I would like to share the following thoughts:
- I have recently realised that Chapter 2 is not the chapter of their solo career. It is the chapter of their solo work, which is slightly different.
- Most of them has a short time to promote their work. The average has been a "several weeks" window.
- Their success is therefore somewhat short-lived or ephimeral. It appears and within weeks it seems to fade away, eclipsed by the next in line. The nex king of "k-..."
- There is no intention of promoting a structured solo career, because 1) BTS have said (a million times) that they will be back in 2025, and 2) if we are to take them at their word, the boys will all be joining the military before the end of 2023.
- So, there is no long-term vision to support "some" and not "others".
- The support is focused on a specific work. The only exception to a more continuous commitment has been Suga and his tour.
- Everyone has their budget, their schedule, their activities for the year...
- And yes, there can be different intensities of promotional activities, depending on the defined strategy or budget or goal or whatever (we don't know the whole story because the company doesn't explain anything to us). There is a rumour that some have even put their money into some activities. But I don't know how true that is.
- And I think they all have a say in the design of their promotions, even if they don't design them themselves.
So then....I can't take the agency away from any of them.
They are the best advocates or defenders within the company. And if one of them had less influence, which I doubt, the others would not remain silent without solving the problem. Or how do we think a commitment from the 7 of them to the 7 of them is achieved to keep BTS as a unified group? There are no weak links in this group. And if there were, I wouldn't bet my money that Jimin is one of them.
Once again, there are things that I can't explain and I'd like to know what's going on (the lack of restocking, the split of Spotify streaming, the deletion of sales...). But if there really have been damaging mistakes or strategies for any of them, I hope that when the next contract comes up for renewal, they will sort it out very thoroughly. Cause this cant happen anymore.
To tell you the truth, I blame the company for many things, and one of them - as serious as their lack of planning - is their lack of communication with the fans. BeautifulPeach has talked about this in some of her posts.
At some point in its growth, Hybe became too big to fail, or whatever, and forgot about certain corporate social responsibility obligations. One of them is to talk to its most important stakeholders: the customers, i.e. the fans. And addressing some of their concerns.
Investors are important in listed companies, but customers are important too. Always.
And if they don't see it that way and continue to despise the fans (clients) in that way, then at the end “future is not gonna be ok”.
And yes, I know that K-pop is controversial. It's clear that they can't deal with every rumour, every silly trend that comes out every day on twitter, ships, solos demands, etc. But there are things that they can deal with. And some of the Jimin's events when Face happened are one of them.
A bit of transparency would be appreciated. I expect it, actually, at some point (maybe when this chapter ends).
Maybe there will be things that could be explained as commercial strategy (do they want us to buy Face instead of the single LC, for example? And that's why they're not stocking it again?). But they might also be telling us about certain difficulties. Or about certain forecasting mistakes. Or how they learned from some of them. I'm pretty sure they learned a lot from Jimin's Face era.
I don't think I will be able to judge everything that has happened until at least the end of this year, when all the solo works have been completed/released.
And I'll have to keep listening to Bongo to see if he still talks about how they are more interested in being a company that has groups rather than individual singers. Maybe that is why it seems there's a ceiling to individual success. There is nothing better than capping success with time limitation of activities ("Let's see if that makes the fans forget what solo members are capable of")
And even then, there will be differences between all of them. Quite a lot.
But we will also have to consider that they are different artists with different goals, sensibilities, objectives and situations (let's not forget that JK himself, who now seems quite greedy, has admitted that he needed and enjoyed his free time and Seven had to come along to give him a boost). So we should be careful with the comparison too.
Perhaps Jin will end up getting the most promotions when he comes out, considering how little time he has had. Poor Jin…😔 He had to wait until the end of the year to enlist, despite the bad weather, to give us the Busan concert. It was a commitment to BTS, but it was a short of individual sacrifice too… you know..they do these things for BTS.
I would also like to listen to them (yes, it's a bit ambitious on my part, but I would like to listen to Jimin and his feelings, at the end of this year... will he open up to us?)
In conclusion, I would say that if we are BTS fans and want to remain so, and if we believe in the boys' words .... I would advise us to enjoy every moment they give us for their limited time. Every campaign, every song, every vlive... and try to find an atmosphere of caution given the situation we are in.
And by that I mean that we should also be able to read that we are in the age of solos and akages. All the information about grievances or leaks that comes out usuarlly comes from the same places.
And I'm not saying it's FALSE! Nor do I mean to belittle it! Just that sometimes we should take into account the intentions behind. And before we react, let's consider the source and the context. Look at what happened to the RNX journalist we all spent almost a day reporting on for a bad translation. Or look at how, in less than two weeks, two CCTV vids of Jimin shopping with a friend (one of them clearly with Saeon) suddenly appeared just as it became known that he was going to NY with JK.
Anyway, I will be a bit cautious for now. There are still a few months until the end of the year. A lot can still happen.
Jimin could came back again to us with sth as amazing as Like Crazy. Or even better, an album.
I miss Jimin and want to see him shine again and talking to us.
And I miss jikook……arrrggg

UNHINGED AND SNOWBALLING
I’ve been in this fandom since early 2017 (5 ½ years). That’s way shorter than a lot of ARMYs but it’s also way longer as well. So I think I’ve consumed enough content in real time to have the opinion I’m about to share.
Taekookers are increasingly becoming louder and more unhinged by the passing day in this fandom.
And THAT is a truly frightening thing.
Let me explain…
At the beginning of my ARMYdom, I knew nothing of shippers and shipping except for what ships were in the fictional world. I never imagined anyone ever ‘shipped’ real people (for fun or otherwise).
So colour me confused when a Jikook video popped up on my YT page. Anyway, after trying to avoid anything and everything related to shipping where BTS members were concerned, I eventually watched a VLive where Jeon Jungkook made me finally question the nature of his relationship with Park Jimin. And I essentially went down that Jikook Rabbit/Chicky hole.
For a good length of time, I read/heard/saw nothing about Taekook as a romantic pair.
Namjin? Umm…yeah. Sope? Obviously. Taekook? Negative.
Hell, I had never even seen any content which remotely looked like Taekook were anything other than those BFF’s who are inseparable and are a collective menace to those around them.
Until I did. I can’t remember exactly but I’m guessing it might have been the G.C.F. in Osaka. Some ‘fans’ were suddenly loud about Tae and JK. But they were definitely in the minority.
That was in 2018.
And over the years, the Taekook loudness, from my experience, has gone through these phases:
Ø  Hoping for content
Ø  Celebrating content
Ø  Overanalysing content (that really was mostly non-content)
Ø  Subtly throwing barbs about Jimin
Ø  Blatantly throwing barbs about Jimin
Ø  Calling Jikook complete fan service
Ø  Dubbing Bang PD the greatest fanfic writer
Ø  BigHit is keeping Taekook apart and the boys are miserable.
Ø  Jimin is a borderline molester who always makes Jungkook uncomfortable (save JK!)
Ø  Taekook have had it and are now rebelling against the evil machine and giving hidden content in plain sight.
Ø  Oh, but wait! Their relationship is only for them so they keep their moments private.
Ø  Jimin the homewrecker and sl*t is keeping Taekook apart. He and Bang PD are forcing JK to do fan-service cuz it pays the bills.
Ø  Completely, 100% making stuff up about dates with absolutely NO proof but being loud about it so everyone believes.
Ø  Oh, someone showed Jikook some love so let’s harass them until they either go private, delete or deactivate.
Ø  Jimin is the scum of the Earth – Taekook REAL – Jikook FANSERVICE
Ø  I HATE JIMIN – TAEKOOK IS REAL – JIKOOK IS FANSERVICE
Ø  JIMIN IS A ****** - SUPPORT TAEKOOK OR ELSE – FANNNSERRVICCEE (enter trucks/e-mails) – F*CK YOU, DELETE!!!
Needless to say, their presence on social media (and in real life, I will never forget that b!tch at the airport with that damn sign where the boys could see!) has only gotten louder and more disturbing as the years have progressed.
And I have seen it.
And this is worrying to me because if this behaviour continues to go unchecked by this fandom, I can only see it escalating.
And eventually meandering into actual dangerous territory – the frightening part.
Because with the way they’ve been moving lately, I am truly terrified that there is a very real possibility that these psychopaths could have intentions of physically harming Jimin and/or Jungkook. Because they see our mochi as an obstacle.
And if ONE was brave (and f#%%ing STUPID) enough to physically show up with a sign to the airport, what’s stopping some truly disturbed psycho from physically approaching Jimin in some form or fashion?
So here I am praying for the boys’ safety and hoping it never comes to this.
…But the thought is sobering and chilling.

A TAEKOOKER’S TOXIC TANTRUM
My brain hurts. Let me begin with that.
The mental gymnastics from some taekookers, that I have seen and read, particularly over the last couple of weeks, have been nothing short of mind-boggling…befuddling…down right stupid!
I can write a book by now so I will stick to the most recent cranium acrobatic:
Jimin and Jungkook could not have possibly been together on his birthday.
DENIER : a person who refuses to accept the existence, truth, or validity of something despite evidence or general support for it.
This is no longer a situation of Delusion but of Denial.
And it isn’t even entirely about shipping.
You see, when you resort to basically calling a person a LIAR because it doesn’t suit your narrative, despite your spiel about loving/respecting said person, THAT is truly concerning.
I could not resist the temptation to look at that particular taekooker video (you all know the one). And watch it I did. Because I genuinely wanted to know what ‘evidence’ or ‘logic’ they would have for not believing a word that came out of Jimin’s mouth.
In the video, they were confused. And they proceeded to, with clips of course, show the moments where the words coming out of the boys’ mouths seemed to ‘contradict each other’ – their words, not mine.
Because they believed that Jikook couldn’t possibly have been together in the wee hours of the morning on JK’s birthday. Because to them, it didn’t make sense. They couldn’t seem to put together where all the boys were at the time of receiving the news.
They were confused.
I laughed, sighed and then proceeded to jot down every single one of their points and debunk them ALL…using simple logic. See, I’m not a denier.
So let’s get to it:
** Keep in mind, the general assumption, based on WHAT THE BOYS THEMSELVES SAID, is that Jikook were together, while the others were not necessarily in the same place/location (ie. The Dorm).**
1.   [contradiction] - Jin said he went to sleep at around 3:00 am and Namjoon went to bed earlier. But Jin also said they all had drinks together.
[logical reasoning] – Jin NEVER said WHEN they had that drink. It could have simply been when they met the following morning.
2.   [contradiction] - How did Jin know that Namjoon didn’t cry if they weren’t together at the dorm.
[logical reasoning] – A simple conversation the following morning could explain that.
3.   [contradiction] - Jimin said he found out the news when he was with Jungkook. But he also said he was on the phone with Tae when he found out.
[logical reasoning] – NO, sweetheart. Tae explains after Jimin says he called him crying. If Jimin called him while in tears, he obviously knew already! Never did Jimin say he was on the phone with Tae when he got the news.
BONUS* - she mentions Jungkook asking if they cried together, implying that VMin must have been together.
Again, NO, sweetheart. It is possible to cry with each other OVER THE PHONE! That same explanation goes for the Yoongi/Jimin crying ‘all night’ with each other.
I wonder if it slipped these people’s brains that the members do have each other’s phone numbers and do chat with/video call each other.
4.   [contradiction] - Jimin said he told Jungkook the news in the VLive. But then JK said in the interview that he found out while looking it up online.
[logical reasoning] – You know, it is possible and plausible that BOTH could be the truth together. Jimin could have told JK and he simply could have looked it up to confirm it himself. Nothing contradictory there.
BONUS** : Did Jimin ask JK if he’s looking forward to December because it is Tae’s birthday month?
CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING! The members were going on about how JK had said he was looking forward to this particular bday and then they go and get #1 on that day. So they were asking him which other dates he was looking forward to in jest, to find out what other achievement they may have to look forward to (not unlike how we all jump on the Minstrodamus thing). Jimin mentioning December? Hmm…what occurs in December that is connected to the boys’ music careers? Could it possibly be Award season and MAMA and MMA? Daesangs???!!!
BONUS #2 : [Skewed Analysis] – She shows rings that are supposedly a ‘Taekook’ thing (they have matching thin bands). The proof was some EXTRA blurry pics. What she failed to show, however, was that Namjoon, Yoongi and Hobi have ALL worn thin bands this past year as well.
So there!!! Confusion put to rest. You’re Welcome. All of her points were easily discredited using SIMPLE NON-DENIER LOGIC.
But of course, the denier does not deal in logic, reason and fact.
When their ‘beliefs’ are suddenly put into question, instead of simply accepting the facts and realities put before them, they create in their mind, a false reality where there must be another explanation for this circumstance. What is staring them in the face must not be truth. It has to be a façade, a lie, because their belief IS the truth.
This is not about shipping. This is not about supporting Jikook and hating on Taekook or vice versa.
This is about certain persons within this fandom who have a relatively and inexplicable large platform and thus influence. And they deliberately choose to be a denier and proceed to pontificate their false reality to very impressionable, young minds. And through this particular preaching, these young minds are being led to believe that we can no longer trust what comes out of those boys’ mouths.
All because 2 members hanging out together, whether romantic or not, is apparently the hardest pill to swallow.
I ask now : Do you see the problem with this?
I leave you with one simple question:
SO WHAT IF JIMIN AND JUNGKOOK WERE TOGETHER???

RESPECT BTS’ BOND
Listen.
I will admit that I am inclined to believe that jikook’s relationship may be romantic in nature. They’ve given me enough pause to think so.
But NEVER ONCE has it crossed my mind to discredit their relationship with the other members. Or other members with each other.
Before any relationship that we may think is romantic, whether it be jikook, taekook, namjin, sope, whatever your fancy, the deep, familial bond those 7 boys have with each other comes first.
It isn’t FAKE. It isn’t FAN SERVICE.
So to say, AS A FAN, that a company is ‘promoting’ a particular ship, to call it FAKE and FAN SERVICE, is to call BTS’ bond fake and fan service.
CHECK YOURSELF!!!
You CANNOT have it both ways. You cannot call one real while discrediting another.
CHECK YOUR HYPOCRISY AT THE DOOR!!!
At the end of the day, romantic relationships are only speculations but what is REAL, what is FACT, is that ALL 7 of those boys love each other to death. If you can’t handle that then this isn’t the fandom, the group, for you.

LINE DISTRIBUTION
If the first thing that crosses your mind when BTS releases a song is :
“ Why did (insert name here) get so little lines compared to the others?”
Then, my friend, you need to re-evaluate some thought processes and realize that :
1.   BTS quite possibly just might know how to do their jobs better than you.
2.   Your bias does not need you to dress up and play pretend as his knight in shining armor and come rescue him from all the injustice and unfairness your mind thinks he’s suffering.
3.   BTS IS 7 PEOPLE!!!

WAB : Eternal
As much as I love to watch some reaction vids, is it just me who felt like newer Reactors reacting to We Are Bulletproof: Eternal was somewhat ‘wrong’?
The story told was the story of Bangtan for ARMY. Reacting emotionally to it when you don’t know the history behind it would always come off as disingenuous. .
Just a thought

Prayer for BTS
I pray that those who try to tear down and break the bond between BTS and A.R.M.Y DO NOT PROSPER!!!
- The antis
- The solo stans
- The manager armys
- The corrupt media whose integrity fall to greed, bias and close-mindedness.
- The corrupt music industry establishments who would rather line their pockets with dirty money and darken their non-existent consciences.
- Those who refuse to give rightful credit and respect to these boys for opening so many doors and opportunities that simply WOULD NOT be in existence without their impact.
Because they are all working hard.
I truly...TRULY pray that KARMA kicks you ALL in your vile-soul-selling-be-kissing-the devil’s ass ASSES!
I pray that these boys be FOREVER BLESSED!!!
Let’s be smart A.R.M.Y. Do not fall to the devil’s tongue and words. It’s sneakier than we think.

BTS ON STAGE: THEN vs NOW
After watching the 2 HYYH concerts last night at BangBangCon D1 (whew, those Floor Seats were tough to get), I realized some interesting things that I probably knew before but didn’t consciously register it into my thinking. I was excited, as I’m sure many newer ARMYs were, because this was the first time we would be seeing some of BTS’ older concerts. Yes, I’ve seen countless clips from them but I’ve never seen one (pre-Wings era) in its entirety, so I was curious to see how the boys performed ‘back in the day’ and compare it to the juggernaut performances we are witness to today. Did they improve? Did they always slay? Did the songs connect more with the fans? I was intrigued.
Just for reference –
HYYH on Stage (SK) : 27th – 29th November, 2015.
SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium (cap. 5000)
HYYH on Stage – Epilogue (SK) : 7th & 8th May, 2016.
                                     Olympic Gymnastics Arena (cap. 15,000)
Yes, these 2 concerts were roughly 5 months apart….Just 5 months.
Here goes:
1.   What they wore: Five months between these 2 concerts. F.I.V.E. And the difference in concert attire quality was staggering and probably indicated just how much of a boost the HYYH era was to BTS and BH in terms of finances. We know they were still struggling well into 2015 but to see it manifest in this manner, I don’t know, did something to me emotionally. For HYY, The boys had just 3 wardrobe changes (+1 with just a jacket added). Yes, their clothes looked cool (I loved their fashion concept for this era) but the quality in what they wore sometimes was blaring. It was so simple. Fast forward those five months to May 2016 and their attire and jewellery was more of the glitz and glamour we know the boys to have.
2.   Jungkook really…I mean REALLLLYY grew into his own in terms of stage presence and performing on stage at their own concerts. The Jungkook I know, absolutely owns the stage when he performs so I was a little taken aback watching HYYH as I felt his timidity and a bit of awkwardness at times on stage. But boy did that fly out the window in HYYH: Epilogue. Here, I saw the JK I know. Confident, cheeky, comfortable. I guess it just made me appreciate him more as I realized this natural charisma on stage we get today wasn’t always that natural to him.
By extension, I could also see a visible improvement in the comfort level of all the boys in being on stage in HYYH: Epilogue vs HYYH. They were all more playfully interactive with each other and their confidence level seemed like it sky-rocketed in those short 5 months.
3.   Jung Hoseok was always…ALWAYS the King of the Stage. I mean, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019…it does not matter. J-Hope’s stage presence has always been top notch, bar none. I felt from him then what I feel from him now. And, after seeing them live, I can say without a doubt, Hobi should be everyone’s ‘concert bias’. That man simply owns a stage.
4.   BTS has always had stellar live vocals in concerts. It’s that simple. No explanation needed.
PS. Geez do I miss Tae’s husky growls in songs.
5.   This is just my personal opinion from what I felt last night, but I could almost tangibly feel a shift in their on-stage aura when they performed their more hip-hop oriented songs. It was almost like they were more comfortable performing that area of their discography. They truly came alive then.
6. Min Yoongi’s passion on stage while performing is always 100% true and ‘felt’. That man bares his soul every single time he raps.
7.   BTS’ aura needs a big stage to unleash its full potential. Yes, it’s true they will always own every stage they step on no matter its size, but seeing them in on that HYYH stage made me feel like they were restricted because I know what they can do when given the physical space to do so.
8.   Their goals for their careers were so ‘within the box’. I can now better understand why they were so emotional in playing at Citifield…a STADIUM…in a country outside of ASIA.
Ultimately, these concerts have shown just how far these boys have come, further than they ever thought possible (and that is no exaggeration), just how hard they have worked for every single ounce of success they have achieved, just how much they have earned that success and last but certainly not least…that when it comes to a stage, there a few in this this world, if any, that can even come close to their dominance.

Why BTS should Enlist Now.
Yes, it’s a taboo and sensitive matter that we, as non-Koreans, really have no idea about. I acknowledge that.
But I also acknowledge that it’s inevitable.
We know they’re going at some point. The boys have said more or less indicated as much. We have to accept that. So why not now?
Hear me out.
1.   The world is basically at a stand-still.
2.    Album releases make no sense since physical copies will neither be able to be shipped nor will promotions be able to be adequately done. Even more so for BTS, since their promotions are world-wide and not just based in South Korea.
*And technically, BTS has already released their album which quite likely will be their only feature release this year minus the Japanese release (which has already been delayed) and any solo projects they may wish to share (which aren’t physically promoted anyway).
3.   Touring is definitely out of the question and, realistically speaking, most likely won’t be able to begin until at least Fall of next year. And this is where the real income lies.
4.   The financial situation of a lot of people have been negatively impacted and right now, many are watching how they spend their money.
So, with all that taken into consideration and with how very restricted the boys are right now with what they can do career-wise, why not use this time of non-action to serve out their duty? (Provided the conditions are safe, that is). BH will, without a doubt, lose a lot of income while the boys are inactive with their service, so why not do it now when they’re losing income anyway...sort of like killing 2 birds with 1 stone. And with the 18-24 month period, they’ll be completed by...next year Fall.
I know the topic is controversial and a lot might not agree but that’s just how I see it. And forgive the tone if it sounds like I may be minimizing or trivializing enlistment. It’s not my intention to. I do know that the boys and other SK men take pride in serving their country.
These were just my thoughts...

If You Had 1 Day To Spend With Each Member Of BTS...
In these trying times of Social Distancing, I’ve had time for a lot of thoughts.
One of these thoughts was: If I had one day to spend with each member of Bangtan (language barrier aside), what would I most want to do with them?
Off the top of my head they were:
1. Namjoon :
Conversation. Just hanging around and speaking with him about everything and nothing would be so intriguing because to me, he has such a unique perspective of a lot of things in this world.
2. Yoongi :
Conversation as well. It would be just as deep but oh so different since Yoongi has such a realistic, un-rose coloured glasses look at life.
3. Jin :
Cook. I love to cook, he loves to cook. Plus all the oh so corny dad jokes in the world as we wait for the pasta to boil.
4. Hobi :
A day out just having fun doing things like shopping, movies, clubbing etc. Hobi just seems like the one of the most fun guys to be around.
5. Jimin :
His was the most difficult to come up with and eventually I just came up with...being in his presence regardless of what is done. Jimin has such a dual nature that having a meaningful conversation with Serious Jimin and going to an amusement park with Fun Jimin would be equally enjoyable experience because you’re still in the presence of his enigmatic, magnetic energy.
6. Taehyung :
Go hiking somewhere in nature. Tae has this innocent quality to him as he encounters the world. It would be fun observing him first-hand in this setting and experiencing that through him as well.
7. Jungkook :
Can it be anything other than playing competitive games for the entire day?! I didn’t think so. He’s HELLA competitive and so am I. From sports to fun party games to video games. Hell, we could re-do some Run episode ideas. It doesn’t matter. He’d try to win, I’d try to win. It would just be straight up fun.
I’d really like to hear how you’d spend your day with each of the boys.

Hmmm...
Does anyone wonder sometimes what it feels like to be on the other side of BTS’ meteoric rise?
Like, seeing a little Korean boy group from seemingly out of nowhere, selling just as well in the US Music Industry as their top stars...while singing in Korean, creating a craze anywhere they go.
How does that look to someone who didn’t know them before?
I’m glad that I got to fall into that Bangtan Blackhole before ‘The Rise’, but I sometimes wonder too...
What do they look like from the other side?

It truly, TRULY baffles me why anyone would look at those seven outstanding human beings and would choose to hurt any one of them.
I pray that their minds and hearts be always strong to face what comes their way together.
And that they know that they will ALWAYS have us supporting them and fighting for them.
 I truly do.
