Literally it’s not possible to get an idea green lit this fast, in fact this reminds me of when people accused Pixar of stealing the book of life for coco, Pixar made coco before book of life and the idea went as far back as 2010, the idea for this is probably already a year or two old

I get not liking Disney (the company not the movie creators or artists) but there are actual living human beings who came up with this and pitched it to PIXAR studios not Disney, and you’re saying that they stole the idea to make up for wish (a movie they didn’t make) is not only disrespectful but just not fucking possible

A 2D FILM JUST KICKED DISNEYS ASS IN THE OSCARS!

I haven’t seen the boy and the heron and I loved elemental the most out of the options but as a 2D animation student it was very important for this film to win. Disney needs to learn that most people like 2D animation more and that they need to make a change and quick before they lose more money, to hire more 2D animators and to fuck off with their disrespectful live action remakes

Also now people can’t accuse Disney of rigging the Oscar’s just because they own ABC so thank god that conspiracy theory is dead

UPDATE 3: in late November about the same time wish was being released bob iger publicly said he wants to slow down with remakes due to all the backlash they’re getting and all the money the company is losing because of them, he said he wants to pull the plug on any remake projects that hasn’t started casting calls.

The little mermaid 2023 marks the beginning of the end of Disney live action remakes and the outcome of this film was everything I wanted and more, I’m really happy its infamy serves as an example and reminder of what not to do for other companies and that the backlash was a big as it was, I’ve been following this controversy since summer of 2019 when they announced Halle on their instagram and now that it’s finally ended and our side has come out the winners I’m absolutely overjoyed, this is a new beginning for creative ideas and proper representation WELCOME BACK TO THE DISNEY REVIVAL ERA 🎉✨

Frozen 3-4 and Moana 2 are a good start but i still think Disney can do better and make more original ideas like wish and Encanto

There’s so many posts about it on my page but I think you just wanted to repost this for the controversial statement alone but here I’ll bite (plus I mentioned it in the tags too), I’ve been talking about it for actually a few years it dates back to 2019, people tried to dox me and called me “white” as an insult just for calling outDisney had a huge issue with just pawning their poc actors to their remakes, nobody wants remakes and people of colour (aka me as well I’m poc) want real representation with real culture. Disney doesn’t want to make new original black characters because they want to impress China who absolutely hates seeing black people in movies (look up “disney, China, black panther” they literally cut him out of a poster for the Chinese release. It’s racially manipulative and it’s pandering and ignoring the fact that remakes just shouldn’t exist and the money Disney puts into their remakes is so expensive they could’ve put that money towards a new original movie made by non white folk like domee shi who made turning red. In 2020 on instagram Disney tried to pull the “thoughts and prayers” type shit during blm. Like no open your mount billion dollar wallet and donate to blm. Asha might not be a princess but she could still be a leader

As I said in a previous post it is 100% confirmed Asha will have no royal status whatsoever in this movie but will still be apart of the Disney princess line, do we have another Mulan situation here? I don’t think so.

So here’s my theory obviously she’s gonna defeat the villain that’s just how Disney movies work, But if she does that then why wouldn’t she take his place and be a princess? if she does good the people would probably want her to be their new ruler. (If they’re not completely politically brainwashed bc I can tell this movie will have political elements)

I love my Disney princesses but monarchy is shit in the real world and I can definitely see her accepting the role of a leader but not a princess or queen. Remember how vanellope changed herself into a president in wreck it Ralph? She could do that!

I want her to abolish/overthrow the monarchy!

And we’ve had other “leader” characters in the Disney Princess line, both Moana and Pocahontas are daughters of the chief the odd one out has always been Mulan so my question is… is this a Mulan situation or a Moana one?

EDIT: last night in an interview Ariana DeBose described Asha as and I quote “an all new original character with beautiful brown skin and freckles”. That to me says this will not be a Mulan situation and while I did compare Moana too, from a cultural standpoint she’s a technically a “Princess” since she always knew she’d inherit her island and still has that kind of princess privilege that characters like Tiana and Cinderella didn’t have until the end of their films. I genuinely might be in my own head here but I can’t see this ending any other way and the little hints they drop don’t seem subtle to me as both an artist and story writer
