To You Who Is Lost (chp.1 teaser)

"My vows said that I would follow him as my conscious dictates! As your wife has stayed in Valinor so shall I." The comment was poorly timed. Anger beat so furiously in your chest that you thought not of the consequences. With a roar of unbridled fury Feanor drew his sword. Horrified, both you and Maitimo stepped back. The tip was right at your neck, an inch further would slice the flesh. "Depart, faithless wretch! And do not let me find you lurking in these hall again lest I strike you dead!" Maitimo drew you away and behind him. "You will cease your insults of my wife." You stared up at him in awe. Here he was standing up to his father, possible the greatest of the Noldor. You had thought at that moment Maitimo had seen sense. He lead you off to a room, away from his father and the chaos bellow.

But when you start to react and cry everybody thinks you are weak and can walk all over you. It's so hard to be taken seriously, I should prob come to terms with it but I also wish I new how to just take the criticism with a straight face.

”getting thicker skin” is great in theory but I think for some people “get better at handling your thin skin” is gonna be way more helpful advice. I have strong emotional reactions to criticism and they might never go away, but i can continue to try and handle each situation maturely and that’s the important part. Sometimes irrational feelings are chronic and living with them is better than trying to beat yourself up into not having them.

This ^^^^ but also to the people who wish they could but aren't allowed to do so because there parents don't let them and also to the people that have friends that have moved to other places or you have grown apart and have nobody to go with, I see you.

I understand you, it's difficult and I still haven't fully come to terms that I will be twenty in a few months and haven't had a single of these experiences. But here I am and I believe that I am not the only one.

This is for the people who didn’t party in their teens and twenties. For the people who didn’t have that “coming of age” movie experience with shenanigans and revelations. This is for the people who mostly keep to themselves. Who maybe prefer things to be quieter and gentler. This is for the people who don’t feel like they belong in a culture that values loud parties and flashing lights. I see you. And you are valid.

Tip for upcoming college students:

Find a soundtrack you can do work to. Make sure it is one you actually enjoy and that all you have to do is click play and listen. This way you don't spend time finding music and you can train yourself to do work when you hear it.

I think often about how when tempted by the ring gandalf and galadriel talk about the nebulous amorphous Great Deeds they would do while boromir talks almost exclusively about how he would save his people. like. dunno man, that’s the kind of shit that makes me want to fucking sob. boromir’s ‘corruption’ is still a desperate and all-encompassing desire to protect and defend. says a lot about a man, i think!

1. Download from my mega.nz or from my Google Drive (never hesitate to let me know if either of the links no longer work!) 2. When done downloading, unzip it somewhere on your PC (Windows can do it for you, but otherwise, I personally use a program called 7ZIP), even your desktop works fine. 3.  Open the unzipped folder and double click/install the file called ‘Set-up (Click this)’and let the installation run. 4. When the installation hits 100%, everything should be done and functional. As it’s pre-cracked, there’s no extra effort required or additional steps to take. From hereon out, simply enjoy yourself, have fun and never hesitate to message me if you run into any problems!

5. Since Adobe has the tendency to push new versions relatively quickly, they tend to initially come with their own share of glitches and this is one of them. If your Photoshop closes immediately once it launches; simply navigate to Adobe’s Creative Cloud website (or download it directly from my mega.nz account), download the installation and run the installation as per usual; only install this app and nothing more. This will fix the auto closing problem.

day 1 of @tolkiengenweek: fingon & maeglin in mandos.

a little while ago i did this piece and @tanoraqui mentioned maeglin in the tags. anyways i was thinking about which nolofinwion would be best at dealing w maeglin's trauma.

turgon means well, but maeglin probably doesn't want to talk to him. aredhel is a) his mom and b) part of the traumatic backstory so that would also be difficult. argon never even made it past the grinding ice (and frankly i havent figured out his personality enough to do one of these). fingon, however, kept nicely to the theme of eldest son & youngest grandson and made sense trauma-wise.

so anyways here's fingon helping maeglin deal with the aftermath of his time in morgoth's captivity and the trauma of losing aredhel.

Thinking of a post-canon scenario where a reembodied Maeglin is just shuffled between his relatives like an ugly vase

The comedic potential is great cuz like, Hot Potato Maeglin Lomion staying with a relative periodically before going to the next one to sleep on their couch, but there’s also heavy angst potential because like, his mother has him most of the time but she stills has others babysit a quarter of the year and he is also being treated like an object or child instead of a grown elf

Nan Elmoth, Gondolin, Angband, and even now, post-reembodiment, he can’t leave anywhere without permission

Idk i just like the idea that even then, Maeglin still has to stay somewhere “for his own safety (vengeful Gondolin elves)” or “because he needs watching still (u did take down a city, Lomion)”

And nobody really has a problem with it since Maeglin never complains. He lost his adventurous side after being captured and is mostly fine (resigned) to being a hot potato

Also like the idea of someone (probably Maedhros or Finrod, just somebody with Sauron Trauma™️) have a moment of “wait a fucking minute”

Read exactly one (1) Maeglin Lomion post-reembodied fic and got brainrot

This analysis was very good and I 100% agree that Maeglin was set up to fail.

However do you think that he and Feanor can really be compared?

Feanor had his dad that put him above all his other kids, he also had a wife and kids. In the books it sounds as if he has people that love him. On the other hand, after Aredhel dies, who does Maeglin have?

since im depressed as hell and walking the knife edge of a complete breakdown I uave hyper fixated on Maeglina dnw eirdly salgant who I have a bad trauma connection to. So thats fun.

So Salgant thoughts: Look elves are vane as hell. We all know that. Its in so many aspecta of their cultures and personalities it really cant be missed. So to an elf who in the descriotions of Tolkien himself embody the opposites of alot of that phsysical ideal beauty? I guarantee he got bullied and picked on from day one.

Why else tske shelter in a city of limited beings he could more easily encircle himself with that he can influence qith his beat talent. Music. One thing elves cherish above most others. His only redeeming quality for that waste line and other physical failures.

Tolkien may have elaborated later or not but I feel this character was menat to embody the darker side of the populace and how expected looks are to be favored over those different. And its why he atraches to Maeglin so readily. Perhaps the greed of what Maeglin was allowed to mine had influence to. But here is an elf ostracized by not only his parentage but the disaterous way he was kept in the city. If anyone understands being put out save for one talent or two. Its Salgant.

And his hdiing during the battle. What the hell is to be expected? I would hide! He plays instruments! Its never indicated he can fight. Yes he was told to tske up a blade but seriously historically even in our day just because you can hold a eeapon doesnt mean you know the proper use of it. And I bet anything he had co morbidities that made it very difficult to do any kind of weapons work. So yes he hid. He may or may not have died its unclear in the telling. But no one even deserves to tormented like he may have been.

Maeglin: well this elf has his run of it. But I was thinking today and have often he has so much rsndom influence over his character who is he reaally? You have his father telling him to be reclusive not to teust anyone. His mother who is a free spurit ready to roam and diacover and befriend. His uncle who is reclusive but trusting to a fault of those around him.

The various Lords that have either a love or hate feel to him I doubt there is much in between. A city where EVERYONE has a niche. But him. Which ends uo being still an outsider kind of hanging on the wall like moss place in the end. And rhe influence of descenters in the city who flock to an easy tsrger struggling theough a number of mental health issues.

Maeglin was set up to fail 100% and its so indictative of how society has been for so long. Maeglin is like Feanor so much in the sense that they suffered so much loss and torment at a young age with little to no systemic help to stabilize and process. And then to boot you have this horrid dsrk enemy that is hidden but still killing from the shadows to torment their dreams. Its just a heartbreaking scenario.

It doesnt at all excuse what Maeglin and Salgant did. But it offers explanation to why. And a peek at their characters which I wish was expanded on in later works. They werent bad elves. They had circumstances that led to shit choices and horrid trauma that is not treated peoperly in that age.

Eleond would take these lads under his house and I guarantee he would have some form of therapy to help them process and cope. Because by his time they would have so much mote adapted ways of handling trauma. But thats another age. This is chaotic and not in a good order but I just had to get it down.
