I love how Kunikida is now the assigned washer for Catzai. Does everyone leave Catzai caring all to him or do they share turn?

well for the most part kunikida's the one taking care of catzai (doesn't help that he may or may not specifically search kunikida out when he misbehaves) but the others do have quality time with him:

he likes hanging out with atsushi quite a lot. if you were to take a glance at them you'd see that catzai meows and atsushi seems to understand him perfectly fine and talks to him like he's talking to another human... and sometimes they... meow at each other ???

yosano takes little catzai on her shopping trips. he helps her pick her purchases and more often than not he'll get a little treat bought for him for being a sweetie and hanging out with her. she's also the one who changes his bandages

ranpo doesn't necessarily go out of his way to entertain him most of the time but it's fine because all catzai really cares about is being allowed to sleep at his desk. he plays with candy wraps/empty packages and throw them around (much to kunikida's dismay, which is a plus). if ranpo has an empty ramune bottle he'll shake it so the marble makes noise and catzai watches. he also understands his meowing just fine

kenji took it upon himself to plant catnip the second catzai became an official part of the agency, and he's always super excited about giving it to him. he also likes to eat alongside him, and gives him meat from his bowl even if there's still cat food available right there

kyouka really likes to hold catzai. sometimes she'll walk around and go about her day with him in her arms for hours on end until she gets told to let him go or if he leaves himself. if she's feeling under the weather, he'll go ahead and rub his cheeks against her and let her poke his paws

the tanizaki siblings play around with him if he happens to not be with the others or if the others are busy with their own things. jun'ichirou in particular likes to play magician with catzai and it always works. haruno joins if she's free of paperwork

since he's mostly entertained by the others at all times, catzai isn't really in fukuzawa's office often. but when he is, he's quick to go lay on his lap with the sole purpose of being pet and/or being spoken to, since fukuzawa will sometimes speak to him about whatever's on his mind at the moment

Writing prompt for a "you're so pretty" declaration

A is minding their own business –reading a book, watching a movie, playing video games, doing their homework...– next to or not too far from B, who is laying on their side/sitting with their head on their hand, staring at A for the past 20 minutes.

A sigh and turn their head in B's direction, looking eyes with them. B doesn't pretend that they haven't been staring, on the contrary, they are even more concentrated on A's face shapes, colors, how the light meet their eyes, hairs and skin...

Feeling frustrated and a bit nervous because of the intense look, A frown and ask, insecure about themselves : « What are you looking at? Do I have a pimple on my face or something?.. » A nervously puts their hand on their face to try to find a pimple.

B, still staring, aweser in a deadly serious voice: «I'm looking at you, obviously. And no, you don't have anything on your face.» A blinks twice in confusion, then says: «Why are you looking at my face like that if I don't have anything funny on it?»

Continuing to stare at A, B aweser with their still dead-serious tone: «I'm trying to figure out how on earth can a human being be this beautiful without any filters or makeup. You're way too pretty to be real, I'm starting to think that I'm just hallucinating or something.»

Periodic reminder that Archive of Our Own was created to be a repository for all written fanworks without regard to inherent worth, morality, ethicality, artistic merit, or intelligibility. As long as the posting of the work does not violate US law, falls within fair use standards, and does not directly harass individuals, it can be posted on Archive of Our Own.

Efforts to further limit the scope of what can be posted and stored on Archive of Our Own will fail, because Archive of Our Own is a repository much like the internet or the Library of Congress pre-21st century (back when it kept a copy of every publication printed in the United States). Do you ever think about how the event that led people to start calling Dazai and Chuuya Soukoku was an act of grief?

Their partnership started at 15, but the mafia immortalized it after the Dragon's Head Conflict by dubbing them Soukoku.

The most fearsome duo in all of Yokohama.

Soukoku, a name meant to remind everyone, enemies and allies alike of the destructive force of they're capable of. Of the mafia's victory during the Dragon's Head Conflict.

Of the same night, the very moment, Chuuya learned he lost his friends again.

Chuuya wasn't there to bring the mafia victory or destroy buildings, he was there to save his friends. That's all he wanted, to get the people he cared about home, safe.

Instead he had more people ripped from him. He activated corruption in a state of grief and it's so different from the corruption we see in the main manga.

Chuuya's rage feels cold and calculated when he's fighting Lovecraft and then afterwards, he starts laughing manically. Dead Apple Chuuya's corruption feels so raw and pained.

Especially when we see Dazai nullify it.

He never stopped screaming, when the marks are gone and corruption's nullified, he's still screaming. You can't tell me that's not a tear in the second panel, it's shaped and shaded differently to the debris.

Chuuya told Dazai not to stop him and we assume he meant not to stop him using corruption, but what if he meant "Don't stop me, at all." What if he was so overcome with grief that, in that moment, he was okay with corruption burning through him completely. What if he didn't mean that but it's what Dazai heard? And that's why he's so gentle with Chuuya afterwards, because for a second, Chuuya sounded too much like himself.

Do you think there was a time where Chuuya couldn't stand the name Soukoku, not because it associated him with Dazai but because it immortalized the night he failed to save his friends again?

Do you think Dazai watched Chuuya just that little more closely afterwards, afraid to hear something like "Don't stop me." again?

Does hearing the name Soukoku sometimes bring back awful memories for them when other people say it with awe?

I just realized something about abilities.

So, we know from Dead Apple that abilities are linked to the soul of the person who have it right?

And from the manga that you discover the name of your ability when you hear/read it somewhere.

So, I have a theory about it.

What if the name of your ability is also your soul's name, and that it defines you entirely?

The most obvious exemple for this obviously being Dazai (No Longer Human) and Chuuya (For the Tainted Sorrow), but it can also apply to Atsushi: -Beast Beneath the Moonlight- could refer to his tendency to become more aggressive and violent when in a dangerous environment or with people he doesn't feel safe with.

Yosano can also be a great exemple: -Thou Shalt Not Die- referring to the fact that she had to go to the war when she was a young teenager and survive, or her attitude that shows how much she hates giving up.

Kunikida is too a great exemple, -Doppo Poet- referring to his style of life.

Fukuzawa also goes well with the theory, -All Men are Equal- being an excellent representation of his life motto.

And I could keep going with much more of them, (Verlaine not having found his ability's name showing that he still doesn't believe he is human and thus has a soul, Sigma's unnamed ability being a hint of his yet-to-find life...) but I'll stop here.
