You slide the door open to your balcony and stepped outside to get some fresh air. After today, you needed a couple of drinks with the fresh air. You sighed deeply and looked towards the dark sky as the clouds moved around the full moon. You kept playing with the pack of cigarettes in your hand and flicking the lighter off and on. You haven’t smoked since college. The last semester was stressful to you and picked up this habit for a few months. Not that it helped much, but you were on the verge of needing some relief today. You were startled when you heard a deep voice to your left.
“I didn’t know you smoked.”
“Holy shit! You scared me.” You squeaked with your hand on your chest.
A deep chuckle left this person’s throat and the moonlight shined on their face at the same time.
“Dean? What are you doing here?”
Dean slowly got up from the patio chair and walked towards you. Dean visits his brother Sam once every month. You met him a few times since Sam moved next door a year ago. You, Sam, and Jess were friends from college. Although you all weren’t thick as thieves, you enjoyed their company from time to time. Having your both balconies side by side was fun. You hang out with them and have cookouts during summer and exchange dishes whenever possible. The main reason you didn’t hang out much with them was because of Matthew. Your fiancé. You met Matt during your freshman year and you both have been dating since sophomore year. Matt never liked Sam and Jess as they weren’t up to his “standards”, whatever that meant. So, all of you never ran in the same circles, but you hung out with Jess whenever possible.
Dean leaned on the short wall separating the balconies and smiled up at you.
“Just visiting Sam. Missed my little brother”
“Pssh! He ain’t little Dean.”
Dean laughed a little and eyed the cigarettes box in your hand as if asking the same question again.
“Yeah, I don’t smoke. Just needed something to relieve the stress.”
“Are you okay?”
It has been a while since someone asked that question. You really didn’t want to talk, but you didn’t want to be rude to Dean. He was always sweet and kind.
You sighed a little and replied “Just the stress of planning the wedding is getting to me.”
Dean cleared his throat and asked “Wanna talk about it?”
“Thanks Dean, but I don’t want to bother ya.”
“You are not a bother, sweetheart. I’m hear to listen if you need to vent.”
You put the cigarettes and the lighter aside and took a step towards him.
“Not sure where to start, but the ‘small’ wedding we were supposed to have turned out into a full-blown production.”
“Yessh, that does sound stressful. Anybody helping you with it?”
“Well, my fiancé was supposed to help me, but his mother took over the reigns for him and she wants nothing and everything in the wedding. Today we were at the cake tasting and she insisted on having a 5-tier cake and her favorite flavor. Who needs five tiers of cake? We went back and forth and she finally got her way like she always does.” You sighed a little after your vent. “Maybe it is something small, maybe I am over reacting”
“No, you are not, it is your wedding and you and your fiancé should have a final say. Not the monster-in-law to be.”
You chuckled a little at his jab at Matt’s mom. You never said it out loud, but she was indeed a monster. She sat you down after the engagement and brought you up to speed on how women in their family must keep their husbands first and told you the literal “rules” about having some traditions at the wedding. Since Matt was their only son, she wanted an extravagant wedding. You told her that you didn’t believe in spending all your life savings on one party. You wanted to save money as much as you can so you can use it for down payment on your future home. But she put her foot down and told you as a bride, your family and you need to do everything to make the wedding the best day of her son’s life. She knows your parents passed away when you were sixteen and she tries to make me feel like an orphan when an opportunity strikes. I mean who does that?
You were lost in thoughts when you heard Dean call you again.
“Y/N?”
“Hmm”
“You, okay?”
“Yeah, sorry I have a lot on my mind. With the wedding planning and budgeting”
“You don’t have to apologize Y/N. Just wanted to make sure you are ok.”
“Thanks Dean. Maybe I need a hot shower and a good night’s sleep.”
“Yeah, you should get some rest.”
“Alright, thanks for talking me out of smoking. I really was debating.” You laughed a little.
“Well, I’m glad to be of help. Good night sweetheart.”
You smiled a little and waved Dean good night and walked back inside your apartment.
Dean took a deep breath and went back in to Sam’s apartment.
Sam was in the kitchen getting dinner ready. He looked up when he heard the door to his patio open and close.
“Were you talking to someone?”
“Yeah, Y/N.”
“Oh, how is she doing? I barely see her here since she got engaged to that douche.”
“Douche?” Dean raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, not sure what Y/N sees in Matt, but Jess and I never liked him. He was a total d-bag in college. He once asked what our dad was ‘worth’ to determine if we could be friends.”
“What? That is weird.”
“Yeah, he only wanted to be friends with guys who were loaded and could spend daddy’s money.”
“Oh boy, what is Y/N doing with an ass like that?”
“I don’t know Dean. She always kept to herself in freshman year. Jess and I met her in calculus class and never had many classes together since we were all in different majors. She is pretty smart, I tell you.”
Dean smiled and replied “Yeah, that she seems to be.” He kept thinking how beautiful she is too. She had a pretty smile.
Sam sensed something and said “She is engaged Dean. Don’t even think about it.”
“Seriously Sam? You think that low of me that I would hit on an engaged woman?”
“Just warning ya.”
“Yeah, whatever bitch.”
“Jerk.”
Jess walked in the front door at caught the end of their conversation.
“Don’t start you too. I want to have a nice and pleasant dinner.”
“He started it!” both said and the same time pointing to each other.
Jess rolled her eyes and walked over to Dean to give him a hug and went over to Sam and pecked his cheek as a greeting.
“So, what were you guys talking about?”
“Y/N” Sam replied.
“Oh, what about her? Is she ok?”
“Oh yeah. Just caught her on one of her bad days, I guess. She is stressed about the wedding planning.” Dean replied.
“Oh” Jess replied a little lost in thought.
“Everything okay babe?”
Jess jerked back from her thoughts and replied “Yeah…yeah” and she smiled at her boyfriend. Sam knew she was hiding something, but didn’t bring it up.
“So, are you guys invited to the wedding?” Dean asked.
“Yeah, Y/N sent us both the invite and unfortunately, we had to decline since the wedding falls during mom and dad’s anniversary weekend. With the planning and everything, it would be a tight squeeze to attend the wedding and drive to Lawrence.”
“Oh yeah, that reminds me. We need to finalize the seating tomorrow so I can let Ellen know.” Dean reminded Sam.
“We can take a look at it tomorrow morning after breakfast?” Sam asked.
“Sounds good to me.”
The three finished their dinner ended the night with some light laughs and heavy liquor.
That night Sam and Jess were getting ready for bed and Sam decided to bring up what Jess was thinking about when they were talking about Y/N.
“Hey babe, what were you thinking when we were talking about Y/N’s wedding”
“Oh, it is nothing. Maybe I didn’t see it correctly and imagining things.”
“You didn’t see what correctly?” Sam asked curiously.
Jess sighed a little and replied “The other day I think I saw Matt with someone else when I was hanging out with Melissa and getting drinks at the club.”
“What?” Sam asked bewildered.
“Yeah, maybe it wasn’t him.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Well, because this person was heavily making out with the woman who he was with.”
“It could have been Y/N.”
“I thought so too, but that night when I returned to the apartment I ran into Y/N while she was taking out trash and she was telling how she was stuck at home all day working on a deadline.”
“Oh” Sam said. “Maybe it wasn’t Matt. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was, but for Y/N’s sake let’s hope it was someone else.”
“Yeah, me too babe. It was a dark club and loud. Maybe I am wrong. But in all honesty, she deserves someone else. I never liked Matt.” Jess said scrunching up her nose.
“Yeah, me neither.”
“See that is why I like you.” Jess replied with a grin.
“Geez, I thought you like me for other things too” Sam wiggled his eyebrows and pounced on Jess making her giggle loudly.
Sam and Jess were interrupted when they heard three bangs from the adjacent room.
“Hey! The walls are pretty thin around here. You are scarring me for life” Dean yelled.
Sam and Jess giggle quietly and yelled “Sorry” at the same time.
Dean huffed a little and closed his eyes to try and sleep. For whatever reason his mind kept going back to Y/N and how he wanted to hug her and take her worries away after seeing her today. He cannot get the image of her face that was lit up with the soft moonlight earlier.
“Stop it, Dean. Stop it. She is getting married.” He murmured to himself and started counting backwards to fall asleep. Some how he fell asleep and let the darkness consume him soon.
------
Next morning you woke up well rested. You are lucky you worked from home. You had a few things to take care at work and then work on wedding stuff. Your manager was very understanding that you needed cut back a few hours everyday to go meet vendors and stuff during weekdays to finalize the stuff for the wedding.
You took a quick shower and made a small breakfast for yourself and texted Matt reminding him again about meeting the florist today at 11:30 and to come pick you up at 11:00. He didn’t reply, but you assumed he saw the message. After working for a few hours, you were about to take an early lunch. You put on some jeans and a simple t-shirt to get ready to go to the florist. It was 11:00 and your phone rang. It was Matt.
“Hey babe. You downstairs?”
He groggily replied “Hey. I just woke up and saw your message. I don’t think I can make it to the appointment. Can you go by yourself? I mean it is flowers, what would I do there anyways?”
To you say you were furious was an understatement. Who even wakes up at 11AM on a weekday? Especially when you are planning your wedding?
“Seriously Matt? We both were supposed to go to the florist and finalize the flowers and center pieces. It is not just my wedding it is our wedding.”
“You are making mountains out of mole hills Y/N. It is just stupid flowers, who cares?”
“Who cares? Are you kidding Matt? Don’t you care about this wedding? I mean I wanted a small wedding, but your mom insisted on making extravagant.”
“Don’t bring my mom into this Y/N.” He replied with a tone that was almost scary.
“Well, she chose the cake yesterday. Maybe she should just choose the flowers as well.” You replied snidely.
“You are lucky you have my mom helping you. You have no friends and no family. Be grateful”
That hurt. You were on the verge of tears and you cleared your throat.
“I didn’t mean to be ungrateful; I just would like you to participate in this wedding planning. This is how we make memories. We only have a week left.”
“Well now I am not in the mood to come anyways, I’ll ask mom to join you.”
“No, that’s okay. I’ll take care of it. You don’t have to bother her.”
“She’ll come. Drive yourself there.” Matt replied and cut the call.
Those tears finally spilled. You were always alone after you lost your mom and dad. They were the biggest support system in your life and loosing that was horrible. You always thought meeting Matt was a blessing. He kept you active socially basically dragging you to every party and event around college. Over the years his friends became your friends, his life became your life and now his family was going to be yours. You were skeptical towards him and his motives, but didn’t want to question too much about it. You were getting a family again, so you bent anyway Matt molded you.
You picked yourself up and drove to the florist. Matt’s mom Martha was already there and she had a sour face. You sighed deeply and walked towards her.
“Matt told me about the conversation you both had earlier.” No hi or hello.
“Umm, what do you mean?”
“You shouldn’t force Matt to do things he doesn’t like. That is not OK” she hissed.
“Martha, I didn’t say anything. I just wanted him to join us to choose flowers since this is our wedding.”
“Well, you got me. So, let’s get to it.” She replied and got to work.
Peonies. She picked peonies. I mean they are beautiful flowers, but you wanted to have sunflowers in your bouquet. They were your mom’s favorite. You wanted her to be with you in some way on your special day. It is not traditional, but you thought you could at least win this fight. But you had no strength left in you to argue, so you let Martha pick everything.
After the appointment you drove back to your apartment. Glad that you and Matt don’t share a place. Otherwise, you would have seen his mom all the time. You need a break this evening. Get your mind off the planning so you decided to call you maid of honor, Lisa. Matt introduced you to Lisa in college. Matt and her dated the freshman year, but they both didn’t “click”. They remained friends and hung out all the time. Lisa became your impromptu best friend.
You rang Lisa. After a few rings she picked up the phone. She almost sounded as if she ran half a mile.
“Hey Lisa. How is it going?”
“Hey Y/N. What’s up?”
“Oh, I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out this evening. Maybe grab a few drinks and get a bite?”
“Um no, I can’t. My sister is visiting. She just broke up with her boyfriend and is upset and she needs me.”
“I am so sorry to hear that. How is doing now?”
“Huh...yeah yeah..she is fine.” Lisa replied hastily.
“Okay, hope she feels better. Maybe we can get together later this week. Go over some details about the bridesmaid dresses and set an appointment for a final fitting?”
“Yeah..yeah that sounds fine. Listen Y/N, I have to go. I’ll talk to you later.” She cut the call even before you could say bye.
You looked at the phone puzzled and got back to your work.
At 4, you promptly shut off the laptop to cook something. You didn’t eat lunch since you lost your appetite after meeting you mother-in-law to be. You decided to cook something and were in the kitchen ready to start your prep when you heard a knock at your door.
You were hoping Matt cooled down and stopped by. When you opened the door, you were met with Jess’s big smile. You always loved hanging out with Jess. She had such an infectious smile and attitude. She was a caring person in general.
“Hey Y/N! Is this a bad time?”
“No, no not at all. Come in.” You invited her in.
She gave you a tight hug and you wrapped your arms around here and squeezed her. You needed this after the whole florist fiasco. She broke the hug, and you both walked to your couch to sit down and have a chat. A few niceties were exchanged.
“Sam and I were wondering if you are free this evening?”
“Oh? Why?”
“We feel bad for not being able to attend your wedding and we were wondering if we can take you out for dinner and drinks this evening. Maybe your fiancé can join us too?”
What a relief. You need some company this evening and Jess is a literal angel at this point.
“Sure! Let me call Matt and check with him.”
“Okay, let’s say 7? We can get an early start on the drinks.” Jess laughed.
“You read my mind sister. 7 sounds good.”
Jess got up to leave the apartment and turned around. “Oh! Dean is also going to join us. Is that okay?”
You smiled a little wider hearing Dean’s name. Jess didn’t miss that.
“Of course! The more the merrier, right?”
“Yup! Alright, see you then.”
“See ya.” Your spirits were lifted. You called Matt to tell him about the plan. Praying that his mood is set after the call you had earlier today.
“Yeah?” He answered his call.
“Hey Matt, are you busy?”
“Not really, what’s up?”
“Um, you remember Sam and Jess, right? My neighbors. We went to college with them.”
“Yeah, what about them?”
“They wanted to hangout this evening. Get some drinks together. They feel bad that they can’t attend the wedding. They invited us both. They want to leave at 7. Want to come over to my place?”
Matt sighed “Listen Y/N. I never really liked that Sam guy. He is thinks he is above everyone because of his brains. I don’t want to hang out with them. You shouldn’t either.”
You were taken back a little. Sam was the most down to earth guy you ever met. Even in college. Not sure why Matt thinks that way.
“But Matt, they want to take us both out for drinks and dinner. They are nice people. You should give them a chance.”
“Y/N, I said what I said. I don’t want to go. Also, I made plans with my ma. I will let you hang out with them. Just this one time.”
Seriously? You never asked his permission.
“I don’t need your permission to hang out with them Matt. They are kind enough to invite us for dinner and this is how you talk?”
“Do I need to remind you of our talk from this morning?” He asked gruffly.
“Whatever.” You said and cut the call. You weren’t going to apologize when you have done nothing wrong. You were looking forward to this evening with Jess and Sam. And you were not going to lie that you were looking forward to spending some time with Dean as well. He always seemed nice and caring.
---
General POV:
Jess walked into their apartment and found Sam and Dean on the couch going over some details about their parent’s anniversary party.
“Y/N is free this evening. She will join us for drinks and dinner. I told her we will leave at 7.”
Dean perked up hearing this. And Jess didn’t miss that. She smirked a little walking to the fridge to get a drink.
“Matt is also going to join us.”
Sam groaned. “I hate that guy.” He muttered.
“Tough luck, you better behave this evening, Samuel.” Jess scolded him.
“Yeah yeah. I will if he will.”
“Sam, we invited them, so play nice. It is just one evening.”
“Yes ma’am” Sam replied.
Around 6:45, Y/N heard a knock at her door. She was expecting Jess, but when she opened the door, she saw Dean. He was wearing a simple flannel and jeans and boy, did he look good. She wiped those thoughts away and smiled at Dean.
“Hey Dean! I am almost ready. Need a few more minutes. Come in.”
“Hey. No rush. Just wanted to talk to you before we left.”
Y/N looked a little puzzled.
“Oh? What do you want to talk about?” Y/N was putting on her ear ring using the mirror in the foyer. Her back to Dean.
“Um, wanted to see if it was okay with you and Matt for me to join. I can drop if you guys feel uncomfortable.”
Y/N turned back to face him. She didn’t understand where this was coming from.
“Dean, that is totally fine. Thanks for checking with me. It will be fun. Also, Matt is not joining us this evening. He is otherwise occupied” Y/N said as she rolled her eyes and turned around to put on her other ear ring.
Dean was relived to know that Matt wouldn’t join. After what Sam told him, he didn’t really care much about that douchebag either. He didn’t ask her more about why Matt couldn’t join them.
“Ok, I am ready. Ready to head out?”
Dean took a few seconds to admire her. She dressed simple, but she made her outfit look amazing.
“Yeah, let’s go see if Sam and Jess and ready too.”
---
The evening started out great. All four of them hit a few bars and drank and danced their worries away. Especially Y/N. She let loose. Jess challenged Y/N to drink to every drink she had. And that turned into a friendly competition and both women were very tipsy by the time they hit their third or fourth bar. Sam and Dean soon realized that it was time to get some food to soak up the alcohol.
Jess and Y/N were giggling all night and just having fun. Dean was amused every time he looked at Y/N. He wished he met Y/N sooner because he would have asked her out. No doubt. But we can’t always get what we want, right?
They wanted to make their way to a restaurant to end their night and eat something. Y/N and Jess wanted to drink a little more and dance and kept calling the men party poopers.
“Ladies, you both need to eat. We had been drinking for 3 hours now.” Sam scolded.
“Booo!” Jess yelled.
Y/N parroted her and yelled “Yeah, Booooo!” towards Dean and broke into a fit of giggles.
Sam and Dean both sighed and somehow convinced them. Y/N understood and reasoned with Jess.
“Girl, we need food. I am hungry. I am sure they serve wine there.” She winked.
“Aww, I don’t want the night to end. I never get to hangout with you. Which is weird. We were friends in college and now we are neighbors and we never did this before.”
Y/n felt bad. Matt always made plans for her and never let her hangout with Sam and Jess. Sensing this Jess straightened up.
“Sorry, that was uncalled for.” Jess replied groggily.
“No no, don’t apologize. We will do this again. I promise” Y/N told Jess and gave her a hug.
This conversation warmed Sam and Dean. Dean especially. He knew it was Matt that held her back, but he was glad Y/N was letting some steam out and spending time with Jess. It looked like she needed this.
At the restaurant, they got a booth. Sam and Jess sat on one side and Y/N and Dean on the other. Y/N felt the warmth coming off Dean. They reminisced over the night’s events and were having fun. During the conversation Dean rested his arm behind Y/N. She could smell the cologne coming off Dean. Not thinking she turned a little to face Dean and smiled.
“You smell so good Dean.” She said almost giddily.
Dean had a smug look on his face and with a grin replied “Thank you, darling.”
Sam cleared his throat as if warning Dean again.
Dean immediately realized the closeness and took his arm off the seat and moved a little away from her.
Jess got up to go use the restroom while you three were finishing your food. She got back to the table a few minutes later very sober and a little flustered.
“We need to go home. Now” she said to the table.
“Babe, what is the hurry? We still haven’t gotten dessert” Sam replied confused. You and Dean were confused as well. Jess looked at Sam and subtly pointed at something behind her with her eyes. Sam followed her eyesight to where it was pointed. Sam tightened his jaw.
“Yeah, let’s go.” Sam replied.
Dean and Y/N were confused, but obliged. Sam and Dean went to the front desk to settle the check. Y/N felt the need to use the bathroom.
“Guys, I will be right back. I need to use the restroom.”
“No Y/N wait..” Jess stopped her, but it was too late.
Y/N turned around and immediately got a glimpse of Matt at one of the booths. Y/N was not sure, but she squinted her eyes and he wasn’t alone. He was with Lisa. Your maid of honor. They both were cozied up in the booth facing her and even before she could realize what was happening, they started making out heavily.
The air got knocked out of Y/N. The blood drained from her face. Jess immediately came to her side to hold her. Sam and Dean saw what was happening and walked over to the girls. Dean was worried to see Y/N in such state. He looked at what she was looking. He saw two people playing tonsil tennis with each other. He looked at Sam for an explanation.
“That’s Matt.” That was all he needed to hear. He went to Y/N’s side and tried to get her to talk. She was honestly scaring him. She was in shock.
“Sweetheart, hey! Look at me. Let’s get out of here. Okay?” He was trying to get to her.
-----
Y/N’s POV:
Your blood was boiling. Internally you were screaming and you wanted to pounce on Matt and Lisa. But you were unable to move. You weren’t blinking, trying to make sure you were seeing things right. Dean’s voice broke you out of your trance. You looked at Dean.
“You…you guys got my back?” She asked shakingly.
Sam and Jess looked at each other not understanding what you were asking. But Dean immediately understood.
“Absolutely” replied Dean. That is all you needed to hear.
You straightened your stance pulled the engagement ring from your left hand and marched over to their table like a woman on a mission. Dean, Jess and Sam followed you. You made eye contact with Matt and Lisa.
“You two. Outside. Now!” You said in a calm voice and slammed the ring on the table and turned to walk away.
Dean was right beside you and opened the door for you. You didn’t want to make a scene inside the restaurant. A lot of people were having a good time and it wasn’t fair to them.
Once the cool air hit your face, you took a deep breath and closed your eyes. Sam and Jess immediately came to your side and Dean never leaving your side.
“Are you ok Y/N?” Jess asked. Honestly your calmness was scaring her.
You smiled at her and shook your head yes.
Matt and Lisa showed up a few minutes later walking towards you. Lisa cowering behind Matt. When they were close enough. You looked at Matt.
“How long?” was all you asked calmly.
“Y/N…” Matt started to say.
“HOW LONG?!” you yelled at this point.
Matt flinched at your tone. Honestly everyone around you flinched, but you didn’t care.
Matt put his head down and mumbled something.
“What?” you asked as you couldn’t hear.
“Over a year” Matt said a little louder. You felt like someone slapped you. You were mad at him for doing this, but you were even more mad at him for how he manipulated you and gaslighted you even after he started the affair. The nerve on this guy. He was fucking someone else behind your back. Your maid of honor no less.
“Then why did you propose to me?” You yelled.
Matt put his head down unable to answer. And that answered your question.
“Oh god, it was proposal out of guilt isn’t it?” you questioned. When he didn’t answer you yelled “Isn’t it?”
Matt shook his head and lifted his head to look at you.
You took a deep breath and pointed at him.
“I want you to come get your shit from my apartment tomorrow. They might be in the hallway, or near the dumpster. I don’t know yet.” You told him. Spitting venom.
“And you” you pointed to Lisa. “I trusted you. You could have done the right thing and told me. But you didn’t. And you even lied to me. You volunteered to be my maid of honor. I never want to see your face ever again. Understood?”
Lisa nodded her head and cowered even further behind Matt.
“Heh, I should have realized what a manipulative bastard you are Matt. But I always gave you the benefit of the doubt. Ignored all the red flags. But that one is on me, isn’t it?” Your voice waivered at the end.
Dean got beside you and placed a hand on your lower back. Telling you silently he got you. Jess placed he hand on your shoulder and Sam was right behind you and Dean. They got your back and you didn’t want to spill any more tears for this son of a bitch! Literally.
You turned to Dean.
“I want to go home Dean.” You said quietly.
“Of course, sweetheart.” Dean gave Matt a dirty look and guided you out of there. Jess and Sam silently followed.
You were walking slowly and started to shiver a little. Dean put his arm around your shoulder. You were glad he was there. You slowly brought your hand around Dean’s torso from the behind and snuggled into him. For warmth, for comfort, for support. And it felt good. Dean did not complain one bit.
“I got you Y/N. I got you.” Dean reassured and kissed your temple.
How you got home was a mystery. You got into your apartment and sat on the couch silently. Dean sat beside you holding you. Sam went to get some water for you. Jess crouched to your eye level. A sad smile on her face.
“How are you feeling?” Jess asked you.
“I want to be alone.” You replied. Jess looked at Dean and then Sam. Sam shook his head a no, not comfortable leaving you alone in this mental state.
“Y/N I don’t think it is good for you to be alone at this time.” Jess tried to assure you.
You shook your head no and said “Please I just want to be alone. With my thoughts. Please” you pleaded with her.
“But…” she was about to put her foot down when Dean stepped in.
“How about I stay with you Y/N?”
You turned your head to him “You don’t have to Dean. It’s ok. I won’t do anything irrational, if that is what you all are worried about.”
Dean felt bad. “We don’t want you to be alone in case Matt comes back. Doesn’t he have a key?”
You nodded your head yes. “See, just for your safety I’ll stay here. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
For some reason you felt better knowing someone will be close by. “Okay” you replied silently.
Jess smiled and said “Good.” She squeezed your knee as an assurance. “That’s settled. When you wake up tomorrow come straight to our place for breakfast.” That was an order. You nodded your head yes.
“Heads up, this guy snores like a bear.” Jess said pointing her thumb at Dean.
“Hey! I don’t snore.” Dean defended.
You chuckled a little. Thankful for them trying to cheer you up. You took Dean’s hand in your hand and looked up and Jess and Sam. “Thanks for having my back today. That wasn’t a pleasant situation to be around.”
“We always got your back Y/N.” Sam assured you with a smile. Dean squeezed your hand and said “I got you. Always.” Silently.

Love me when I wake up
Tumblr media
Summary: You, Dean and Sam go on a hunt not too far away from bunker and feelings are revealed.
Warnings: A little angst, threats to harm one self, fluff, some scary themes.
Pairings: Dean x reader
Wordcount: 6400
------
You stirred lightly blinking open your eyes knowing you woke up before your alarm went off. Again. You grabbed your phone from the side table and yup, you were right. Two minutes before your alarm would go off. You disabled your alarm, tossed the phone back on the side table and turned back and stared at the ceiling thinking how sleep after sleep your life was the same. Same old bed, same old dark room, same old cold bunker, same old day-after-day wishing Dean was yours. You sighed.
You slowly got up from the bed stretching your toes and cracking a few knuckles. You were never a morning person, but you made it your discipline to stick to a routine when you first moved to the bunker. You finished your morning routine and walked into the kitchen. Sam was already up and back from his run. You rolled your eyes almost jealous how he was able to go run so early in the morning. You walked over to the coffee machine to turn it on with a grunt. This old damn machine. You need to get a new one.
“Well good morning sunshine! You know I don’t bite if you greet me in the morning, right?”
You grunted a little “Shut up Sam. You drink your green juice and don’t bother me till I have finished my first cup of coffee.”
Sam chuckled a little and proceeded to start making the breakfast for all. You perked up a little when Dean slowly walked in to the kitchen. He was in his robe and those damn short shorts. His fluffy hair sticking in all directions and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes with a small frown on his lips. Anyone who saw him now would never believe he hunts monsters for a living and that he is the big scary Dean Winchester that the hunter world fears.
You giggled a little at his antics and that made Sam turnaround. He gave you a knowing look. He knew you always were a little happier when Dean was around and he knew why. He just played dumb hoping you would tell Dean how you feel sooner than later.
“Ah! Fresh hot coffee. Thanks sweetheart.” Dean spoke as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
“You know Dean, I could have made the coffee. Not Y/N. Where is my thank you?”
“Dude, I know for a fact you didn’t make the coffee. For one you prefer drinking water. And B, you make the stupid green stuff in the morning, not coffee.” He turned to you with a smile “So thanks sweetheart.”
You blushed a little covering your face with the cup and mumbled “Not a problem Dean.”
Sam smirked and you knew he caught you blushing. You just prayed that Dean didn’t see you blush. You cleared your throat and looked at Sam and asked “So anything that caught your attention in the news?”
“Actually yes, let us finish breakfast and I’ll grab my laptop.” Dean looked at you with an expression that said “Really?” You shrugged your shoulders a little and replied “Sorry.” You guys just got back from a hunt, but you cannot afford to take a day off, right?
After the three of you scarfed down the breakfast and Sam got his laptop. You were nursing your third cup of coffee when Sam started speaking.
“So, get this, there is a town not far from here. Colby. Missing persons. Three students who attend the Colby Community College. They are a part of an astronomy observatory club and were not heard of after attending a star party that was set up in one of the open fields a little far away from the town.”
“Star Party? What is that? A rave with drugs?” Dean asked.
You giggled and replied “No Dean. Star parties are a gathering when students, mostly astronomy amateurs, get together and do a little star gazing. Observe different objects in the sky.”
Dean was proud of her. She is a little know-it-all, but it made his heart swell when she explained things to him without mocking him. “Now how do you know that little missy?”
“I took a couple of Astronomy classes in college for my science electives and we used to have star parties all the time. It was fun way to get some extra credit and observe planets and stars even closer.”
“That sounds fun. Maybe you can take me to one someday.” Dean replied with a big smile on his face.
“Absolutely Dean! I can look up astronomy clubs in Lebanon and see if they have star parties open to public.”
Sam cleared his throat and said “If you both are done planning your date, can we get back to the case?” He knew what he was doing.
Your face flushed and you were thoroughly embarrassed.
“Shut up Sammy. It is not a date.” Dean replied immediately in a sharp tone.
Well, that hurt.
Sam felt bad and changed the topic. “Okay. So the local police say that all the equipment and the set up was still there and there was no trace of the three students the next day. No fingerprints. No blood. Nothing that indicates foul play at the site. If it was robbery gone bad, why would they leave the expensive telescopes, laptops and the students’ wallets there. This was about a week ago and they still haven’t had any new developments in the case. The victims’ parents are very concerned. They took to media and released statements asking for the safe return of their children.”
This made you sad. Parents should never experience the loss of their children.
“Were there any missing persons in the past in the area or are these the first?” Dean asked.
“There were three missing people about 18 years ago. The case turned cold after a year when the investigation leads nowhere. There are rumors that this could be related since there are so many connections. Three victims. Same age group. Missing near one of the open fields.”
“Well, that is good enough for me. Lets roll. Meet me in the garage in 30 mins.”
A little after the three of you were on the road. You had your nose buried in a book sitting in the backseat. You did not see the green eyes look at you from time to time in the rear-view mirror. Dean was always mesmerized by you. Especially when you were lost in a deep thought or reading a book. You would nibble a little on your lower lip and that certainly did things to him. He hoped it was him biting your lips and..
Someone clearing their throat snapped him out of his fantasy. He turned his head and saw Sam looking at him with a teasing smile. He knew he was caught.
“Shut up..” he grumbled lowly not to catch your attention.
Two hours later you reached Colby. Dean drove to one of the motels in the town and Sam went to check in and get the keys. In the meantime, you and Dean got your bags out and scouted out the locations to go to for the interviews. Sam and Dean got a room with two beds and you got another room with a single bed. You all quickly changed into your FBI suites and headed out. Dean and you dropped Sam off at the police station and drove to the community college. It was fast and easy to locate the astronomy club and you were talking to one the club members, Sara. She was visibly distraught not knowing what happened to her friends.
“Sara, do you know anyone who wanted to harm them?”
Sara sniffled and replied “No, they were all very friendly and nice people. The four of us got our acceptance letters from KSU not long ago. We wanted to finish this semester and start our fall in KSU.” She started sobbing at this point. You sat a little closer to her wrapped your arm around her shoulder to calm her down.
Dean was glad you were here. He would have not known what to do with a crying teenager.
“It is going to be okay Sara. Can I get a signup sheet for this star party?”
“There isn’t one. This wasn’t scheduled for a class or by the university. Somebody from town requested to have this setup.”
You and Dean looked at each other immediately knowing something was up.
“Do you know who is it?”
“No, it was setup in the last minute. Cindy, Matt and Steve are the usual organizers. They wanted to make some extra cash to help with the new semester and scheduled it.”
You knew immediately that this was a set up.
“Sara do the police know about this?”
“Yes, I told them when they interviewed me. I even called them up twice to ask if they figured out who set this up, but they said they spoke to them and they are ruled out as persons of interest.”
You called bullshit. Something was not right. You gave Dean another look and gave him a quick head nod knowing you need to talk to Sam.
“Thanks Sara. One of our partners is with the police now and interviewing them. We will figure out soon. Is there anything else we need to know?”
Sara looked down a little and shook her head.
“Sara, it is okay. You don’t have to hide anything from us.” Sara looked at Dean and you immediately understood. “Dean, would you mind giving us a minute? I’ll meet you in the car.”
Dean understood that Sara felt more comfortable talking to you. I mean who wouldn’t? Sara barely knows you both and she already feels safe enough to talk to you.
“Of course. I’ll be in the car.” He looked and you and you assured him with a smile that you will be fine. He walked over to the car and waited for you while shooting a quick text to Sam telling him about the interview with Sara and some things not adding up.
He looked up from his phone when his passenger door opened and you stepped in. You had a sad smile on your face and Dean frowned a little.
“Everything okay? Is it okay to ask what Sara wanted to talk to you in private?”
You turned and looked at him with the same sad smile and replied “Yeah, it just made sense why she is taking this pretty hard. Cindy and her have recently started dating and she is worried that she will never see the love of her life again. She was practically pleading me not to give up on this case since there weren’t any new leads. I told her not a chance in hell. I would be worried just the same if the person I love went missing.” You looked deeply into Dean eyes when you said that. After a few moments you realized what you said and the air got thicker suddenly. You cleared your throat and looked elsewhere and said “Have you talked to Sam? Any news from him?”
Dean dropped his gaze to his phone and said “Yeah, I texted him. Let’s pick him up from the police station and go back to the motel.”
After 30 minutes the three of you were back at the motel in your room sitting around the table eating and researching.
“We need to figure out who have requested to set up the private star party in the last minute. And why they were ruled out as a person of interest.” You spoke up munching on the fries.
“I asked for the list of people interviewed and there was never a mention about interviewing a person who set up the private star party. The list just included students, friends, few professors and the families.”
“That does not sound right. Sara said she was told that they interviewed the person who requested this and ruled them out as a suspect. Something does not add up. Either Sara is lying or someone at the station is not telling us everything. Why don’t you and Dean go back to the station and ask them about this and I’ll research a little more on the similar missing persons case from 18 years back. There must be a connection between these two.”
Dean straightened up a little and said “No way you are staying here by yourself. I’ll stay with you. Sam can go back to the station.”
“Don’t be ridiculous Dean. I am a big girl. I can defend myself. I am not going anywhere, just staying in my room doing research. I should be fine. Besides you both should go to the station this time. Use a little intimidation if you must and find out what is going on. I took Sara’s number earlier. I’ll give her a call as well.”
Dean reluctantly left you alone in the motel and drove to the station with Sam.
“She’ll be fine Dean. We will check in with her from time to time. Don’t worry.” Sam assured him.
“Yeah..” Dean mumbled, but something was telling him to turnaround the car and drive back to the motel. He decided to quickly finish up at the station and go back instead of facing your wrath for not listening to you. You might be tiny, but boy you were feisty.
Meanwhile, you continued doing research. There was not a lot of information about the case from 18 years ago on the internet. But you found an article where the assigned detective declared it as a cold case only after a year. That is not a long time for a case to get cold. You dialed the number that Sara gave you and it kept going to voicemail. It was getting dark outside and you didn’t like this. You tried a couple more times and decided to track her phone when she didn’t answer. After a few minutes you traced her phone to a location away from the town. Almost close to the site where Cindy, Matt and Steve went missing. You had to go there. You wanted to call Dean and tell him, but you knew he was going to drop everything and come back. You couldn’t risk that. You needed them to interview the policemen who are working on this case and find out what they are hiding. Against your better judgement you left a note for Dean and Sam about what you found and hot wired one of the cars in the parking lot and drove to where Sara’s phone last pinged.
-------
After a few hours at the station
What was supposed to be a quick chat turned into few hours. Dean and Sam very quickly found out that the captain was hiding something. He seemed nervous when they grilled him about who set up the private party and why they were ruled out. They spoke again with all the detectives involved and the findings of the case. None revealed who requested the private party. They seemed covering for their captain. They drove back to the motel only to find your room empty. Dean immediately started calling your phone and his worst nightmare came true. You phone was going to voicemail. Sam found the note you left and Dean was angry at this point. Angry at him for leaving you alone and angry at you for leaving and not checking with them.
“Dean I’m tracing her phone. Give me a few minutes we will find her.” Dean was pacing around the room still trying to get in contact with you. Meanwhile Sam continued the research where you left off. He made a connection. The current captain was the one hired 18 years ago to investigate the case. He was a new detective on the force back then. He recognized him from the pictures in the old article. It confirmed his suspicions that the Captain was hiding something and interfering with the current investigation. If he could have guessed, soon this would be declared a cold case too. His laptop finally pinged with your phone’s location. It matched the location you left for Sara. So, you did reach to the place.
“Dean I found here phone. She is at the same place as Sara’s.”
“Damn it!” Dean yelled and threw the tv remote against the wall.
Sam flinched a little. He knew how much Dean cared about you. How much he is already blaming himself.
“Let’s go Sam. She better not be hurt.”
-----
A few hours before
You parked the car you borrowed a little further away from the location where Sara’s phone pinged. It was a warehouse. You should have known nothing good comes out of this. Your hands were itching to call Dean and let him know, but your thoughts were thrown out the window when you heard someone scream. You rushed into the warehouse with your gun and no rational thoughts. You couldn’t afford to. It was apparent the warehouse was abandoned. It smelled of mold. You slowly made your way with your gun drawn and cautious. You knew back of your mind you were in for a talking from Dean and Sam for being this reckless. You heard the scream again and you turned around and ran towards the imminent danger. You quickly spotted a few old hospital beds and there were people on the beds connected to some sort if an IV bag. You soon realized they were blood bags and the people on the beds were the missing persons. You ran to them and started to check the pulse for all three. Luckily, they all had a pulse, but it was very faint. Now it was time to call Dean and Sam. You turned your phone on about to call Dean when everything went black.
------------
You woke up with a gasp and your eyes wide open. You were lying down in the most comfortable bed and everything around you were so bright. You were breathing deep and quick trying to figure out where you were. You wanted to get up, but found yourself pinned down. You followed the hand to see to whose it was. You gasped and your eyes were as wide as saucers.
It was Dean.
He had his arm wrapped around you and was sleeping with a soft smile on his face. You couldn’t stop staring at his face. His fluffy hair, those freckles dusted cheeks, no worry lines on his forehead, his soft lashes long and thick gently caressing his freckles and god those sinful lips. They were pink and full and so kissable. He never looked more peaceful. You were dismissed from your thoughts when he gently spoke up.
“It is rude to stare you know” Ah! He sounded so beautiful even though he sounded husky.
You didn’t know what to say. On one hand you were embarrassed that you were caught and on the other utterly confused why you were in the same bed as a very tempting, yet very naked Dean. Before you could say anything, Dean leaned over and planted a soft kiss on your lips.
“Good morning baby. Did you sleep well?” he asked. You still don’t know what is happening. You still couldn’t answer him and kept opening and closing your mouth like a fish. Dean laughed a little and hovered over you planting another kiss and saying “Never seen you speechless in the mornings. You okay babe? Need me to wake you up my way?” He grinned and wiggled his eyebrows. At the same time, you felt something hard rub against your thigh. You jolted out of your trance squeaking “No!” and quickly pushed Dean aside and jumped out of the bed. Then the cold hit you and it was only then you realized how naked you were. You grabbed the throw from the nearby chair and covered your body.
Dean looked hurt for a second and confused. He furrowed his brows slightly and pulled a bed sheet around his waist and sat up on the bed on his knees facing you.
“You okay honey? You look like you have seen a ghost.” You knew this was too good to be real. Your hunter mode kicked in and said “Where am I? Why are we in the same bed Dean?”
Dean furrowed his brows further. “What do you mean where you are babe? We are in our home. In Lawrence. And why wouldn’t we be in the same bed? That is what married people do. Are you okay Y/N/N? You are scaring me.”
Married? MARRIED?
You started pacing around the room. What does Dean mean we are married? You were trying to recollect the last thing you remembered. You were on a hunt with Sam and Dean. You had to find Sara and drove to the warehouse. You heard a scream. You found the missing people and you were about to call Dean and everything went blank. And then you woke up here. Naked. In bed. With Dean and you were married to him. What is going on?
You closed your eyes thinking it was a dream. You pinched yourself quickly to wake up. You opened your eyes only to see a pair of very worried green eyes staring back at you.
“Sweetheart, please sit down. Let me get you some water. Are you okay? Did you have a bad dream?” Dean asked worried.
You sat down in the accent chair close by and brought your left hand to your head while holding the throw to cover your modesty with your right. That is when something cold touched your face. You looked down and saw a gold band on your finger. You felt dizzy with everything going around you. Then a warm hand was placed on your cheek.
Dean had some pants on now while crouching to your level and held a glass of water to your mouth. You gulped a little all the while staring at him. He put the glass down and now held your face in both of his hands and rubbing your cheeks softly with his thumbs.
“Are you feeling better now sweetheart?” he asked with a smile.
You knew right away what was happening. You just knew. All of this is something you think about before going to sleep every night. Sometimes when you were lucky you would even dream about this. Your perfect life with Dean. You and him married. Waking up with kisses from him. This bedroom of your dreams, with so much light. No longer the dark cold bunker room.
It was a Djinn.
You are currently being drained out of your blood as you were playing house with Dean. It was only fair that you played along till you found a way to get out of this nightmare. Or was it a blessing? You shook your head and looked at Dean.
“Sorry baby. I think it was a bad dream and I was still having the after effects of it for a second.”
“Are you sure sweetheart?”
“Yeah, I am sure Dean.”
Dean pulled you in for a kiss. You eyes closed as you were savoring this moment. Guess you don’t have morning breath in a djinn’s dream apparently.
You pulled back and smiled at him. He pulled you up walked you to the bed and slowly took the throw away from your body and you let him. You stood there naked in front of him a little nervous, but more content. Dean brought one of his shirts and helped you in it. He pulled the covers back and you both got back into the bed.
“Well as much as I like seeing you in your birthday suite we need to cover up. They will be marching in here any time soon.”
You looked at him with a quizzical look. Even before you could ask him about what he was talking about the door of the bedroom opened a little forcefully than needed and you heard giggles.
“Daddy daddy! Can we make pancakes today? Pleeeeease?” a little girl maybe 3 years old, with hair almost identical to yours jumped on Dean and asked him with big bright green eyes.
“Mommy, Grandpa said he will come over and take us for donuts” a boy who was a copy of dean looked over at you calmly explaining the breakfast options. He was no older than 8. He slowly crawled up the bed and lied down between you and Dean and opened a comic book and started reading.
“Nooo! I want chocolate chip pancakes. Pleeeeease?” said the little girl again.
At this point you stopped being shocked. I mean this is what Djinns do right. Show you what you always wanted. You just had to play along. You cannot panic again. Not in front of these two beautiful, innocent kids.
“Diana, grandpa John wants to take you, Dax and your cousins out for donuts today. We talked about this last night, right?” Dean spoke to your daughter. Your daughter? That was so weird to think, yet so satisfying.
“But but…I dreamt about choco chip pancakes. Can I get them?”
Dean sighed. You knew he would very easily give into your daughter’s commands.
You spoke up softly “Baby how about you get donuts with grandpa and we can have pancakes for lunch? You don’t wanna make grandpa sad right?” You nodded your head.
Diana got up from Dean, crossed over your son and planted herself on you with a huff.
“Baby be careful with mommy. You can’t jump on her like you do on me. We talked about this.”
You waved a hand and dismissed Dean saying you were ok.
She thought over for a few seconds about your offer and spoke up. “Okay. But I want extra chocolate chips in my pancakes” she agreed. You slowly wrapped you arm around her tiny body and brought her closer to your face. “Okay fine. But only this one time” you said and planted a kiss on her forehead. Diana did a little dance and blew a raspberry at Dax knowing she won and giggled.
Dax, even though he was a kid seemed very mature for his age. He just rolled his eyes at his sister’s antics and went back to reading his comic. Batman. You wouldn’t have expected anything else.
After Diana talking non stop about her dream and few other things Dean got the kids up from the bed and took them to get them ready for their grandpa to pick up. Wow, John was alive? Dean told you stories about his dad and how he missed him. You read John’s journal. Even though it was supposed to be your perfect dream you were glad this Dean was reunited with his father.
You were alone now and this was the perfect opportunity. With Dean busy with the kids you sprinted towards the kitchen downstairs. You remember when Dean told you about the time he was taken by a djinn and what he had to do to “wake” himself up. You knew what you had to do. You had to kill yourself in the dream to wake up. You wanted to wait till Dean sent the kids away. If you had enough time, you would somehow convince Dean to go with the kids, but that would be suspicious. Not sure how much the djinn was reading your thoughts already so, you had to act fast. After the kids were ready you heard a honk from outside. The kids waved a quick bye to you and Dean walked them out of the house. This is it.
You were going to do think quick and fast. You convinced yourself repeatedly that this is a dream. You had to. Because all of this was too tempting. Even if you had the perfect Dean here, he wasn’t your Dean. You needed to get to him. You took a sharp knife from the kitchen and rushed to the bedroom upstairs. You took a deep breath and was ready to do the deed.
“Y/N! Stop!” You quickly turned around and there was Dean with fear in his eyes looking at the knife.
“Baby whatever it is. Let’s talk. Please don’t harm yourself” Dean was trying to convince you in a calm voice, but his voice breaking at the end.
You looked at Dean mortified. How do you tell him that this is all a dream? How can you look into those beautiful eyes and break his heart. But you had no time.
“Dean. This is not real. You are not real. The kids are not real. This is a dream Dean. I need to wake up. This is the only way. Please don’t stop me” you said backing away from him. Dean took slow and cautious steps towards you with both his hands raised to show you he means no harm.
“Baby it is real. Everything is real Y/N. You and I are married and we have two beautiful kids. How can you look at their faces and say they are not real! Please put down the knife and let’s talk.” He had tears in his eyes at this point. He was hurting. You couldn’t bear to see him cry, even if it was not your Dean.
“No Dean. Stay back. I need to do this. Because the real you is waiting for me. I need to go to my Dean. Please don’t come any closer.” You had tears in your eyes as well.
“Please don’t hurt the baby Y/N. If you fear having the baby we can talk. We have two beautiful kids and you always wanted a third. Please don’t harm him” Dean begged.
The air got knocked out of your lungs. You looked down at your tummy. There wasn’t a visible bump, but then again you knew this was the djinn talking. He was taking advantage of your vulnerability. You shook your head and dismissed his words and turned the knife over and plunged it to your heart.
Dean screamed and came rushing towards you. He took you in his arms and held your head closer to his chest. You were hurting. Both physically and mentally.
Dean started talking.
“Why baby? Why?” Dean kept chanting over and over again while holding you and crying.
“Just….just..” You wanted to say something to him.
“What is it baby? Tell me?”
You coughed a little and whispered your final words to him.
“Just love me when I wake up. Love me when I wake up, Dean.”
-------- End of dream sequence
And you did wake up.
In front of you was Dean. His hand on your cheek hovering over you just like in the dream, but the only difference is he was worried and you were lying in the most uncomfortable bed. The springs were poking you a little from below, it was dark and smelled like mold. You knew immediately you were back in the warehouse. You wanted to say something, but you couldn’t.
“Oh sweetheart. You are safe.” Dean smiled a little and assured you and himself. “Sammy! She is awake! Call Cas now.” Everything that happened next was a blur. Dean picking you up and taking you to the car. You heard police sirens in the distance. Dean holding you to his chest and chanting “You are safe” repeatedly. Going back to the motel room. Somebody other than Dean touching your forehead. You feeling warm and dozing off to sleep.
You woke slowly. You knew right away you were back in the bunker. The bed feels a little different, the room a little warmer, not pitch dark. You looked to your right and it was like déjà vu. You saw Dean’s sleeping face again. Only this time he had his worry lines back. His freckles were a little lighter. Lashes still the same and those sinful lips even more kissable. He draped his arm around you and you could feel his breath tickling your face with every exhale. You were praying you weren’t back in the dream and realized you were in Dean’s room. As you were processing what happened Dean’s eyes slowly opened.
He smiled a little and said “Do you always stare at me when I am not looking?”
“You wish” you replied groggily. He pulled you closer to him and planted a kiss on your temple.
“Is this, okay?”
“What? You crushing me under you?”
Dean chuckled a little. “Yeah.”
“I don’t mind. But what prompted this?”
Dean sighed.
“Do you want to hear the story now or after breakfast? Or maybe dinner? I lost track of time”
“I woke up from a djinn’s dream Dean. You know how it is. Tell me. What happened? Is Sam okay? Did you guys find Sara? What about the others? I felt a pulse on all three…”
Dean interrupted you “Okay okay…one question at a time sweetheart”
“Okay, just tell me.”
“Sam is fine. We found Sara in the warehouse. All the kidnapped victims are fine. They are in the hospital, but Cas used some of his mojo to help them a little after he healed you. After you very recklessly took off to the warehouse, we are going have a long chat about that by the way, we found your note and the research and it confirmed that the two kidnappings were linked. The Captain was the link between these. I tried calling you and of course it went to voicemail. We traced your phone and rushed over to the warehouse. We found you and the others right away and knew it was a djinn. Sam and I quickly took off the needles and tried to wake you up. We were then attacked by not one but two djinns. A mother and son. We knocked them out and had to run back to the impala to get the silver knife and lamb’s blood. There we saw the captain’s car. He was distraught and broke down in front of us and spilled everything. He is not a djinn, but he married one. They gave birth to their son who also turned out to be a djinn. When they first moved to the town 18 years ago the captain’s wife was pregnant and she needed a lot of blood to survive after the labor. So, they kidnapped and killed the three poor victims back then. Him being the chief detective on the case was able to move the suspicion away from his wife. Now the kid grew up and on his 18th birthday he found out he was cursed to be a djinn as well. The mom was the one who arranged the private star party and lured these three college kids to their secret hideout and well…the rest you know. The things people do for love, right? The captain was ready to confess and surrender himself for the murder and kidnappings. We put him in cuffs and rushed inside to take care of the mom and the son. The mom woke up and she begged to spare her son’s life. I told her I couldn’t do that, but promised her that we can give them both painless deaths cause this wouldn’t end with this kidnapping. And then um…she then asked me if I wanted to know what you are dreaming about.”
You were shocked a bit. Did you want Dean to know? Were you ready to tell him?
“What did you say Dean?”
“I told her I wouldn’t want to know. That it was your dream and it was private. Whatever it maybe”
You were relieved, but disappointed a little too. You wish somehow Dean knew what you dreamed about and why.
“I was about to take care of the mom when she said I was in your dreams and you were happy with me. She offered if I wanted to join you and have a peaceful life. No hunting. No gore.”
You looked at him expectantly. “I said no.”
It hurt. You didn’t know why. Of course you didn’t want him to be put under a spell and have his blood drained.
“I told her I would rather have the real you. A life with the real you.”
You looked up at him smiling and tears in your eyes.
“Really?”
“Yes sweetheart.” Dean kissed you on the temple assuring you.
“I then tried waking you up. You were still a bit under the spell, but we were able to successfully wake you up. Please never scare me like that again sweetheart.”
“I promise.”
“You know what you said when you woke up?”
You didn’t remember much. You were hoping you didn’t say something stupid.
“No. What did I say?”
“Love me when I wake up, Dean.”
You remembered now. You somehow wanted to tell Dean, any Dean what you always wanted. And you did. You closed your eyes and the tears spilled out.
“Y/N. Sweetheart. Please look at me.”
You shook your head no and turned your face away. Your insecurities and your over thinking were winning. Maybe Dean didn’t want to be with you like the way you want. Love? Could Dean do love?
Dean gently turned you face back to him.
“Look at me sweetheart. Please”
You opened your eyes and saw him smiling a teary smile.
“Do you love me sweetheart? I need to know”
All you could do was shake you head yes. Dean smile got a lot bigger and hovered over you.
“Can I please kiss you baby?”
You smiled wider and shook your head yes again. Dean crashed his lips to yours and held your face in his hands like you were something so fragile. Just like in the dream, but this was very much real.
“God! I wanted to kiss you for so long”
“Really?”
“Yeah really. Every time you laugh at my jokes or when you read a book and you are deep in thought and nibble on your bottom lip, every time you patch me up, every time you were on the receiving end of my anger, every time of every day.”
You just laughed at his confession and your heart swelled with happiness. You pulled him closer and deepened the kiss.
“I love you, Dean.”
“I love you too baby. And I will always love you when you wake up. Always.”

------
You stood up half bent over the table in the library typing furiously into the laptop to trace Sam’s third phone. Books were scattered all around the table and you were talking to Bobby on the phone with the speaker on. It was a little past midnight and you still have not heard back from the brothers after the bizarre call you got from Dean earlier in the evening.
“Y/N repeat back to me what Dean said to you on the call”
“I do not know Bobby. I was giving them the final line to perform the spell. After a few seconds he said he saw a bright light and I heard muffled voices. It was not clear to me what Dean was saying, but he did not sound like he was in danger and the line cut off”
Bobby huffed and said “If he did not sound like he was in danger, why aren’t they back at the bunker yet?”
You sighed and replied in a calm voice “Bobby, please don’t yell at me. I am as terrified as you are. I wish my stupid ankle didn’t sprain on my last hunt and I was with them.” Your voice broke at the end of the sentence and you were close to tears and Bobby sensed it right away.
“I know kiddo. I’m sorry. I just wish I could do something than sitting on my thumbs. Why aren’t these two answering their calls?”
“I want to say bad signal or their battery died at this point because I would be so mad if they are not answering on purpose. Even their back up phones..”
During your rant the bunker door flew open and two giant sacks of flannel on legs came down the stairs. You immediately perked up and saw Dean with a soft smile on his face and Sam with a bigger smile both looking at you. For some reason their expressions made you even madder. You told Bobby quickly that they are back and will call him once you were finished with them.
You walked slowly across the library and into the map room with you sprained leg. You gave them a once over to make sure they were not hurt while Sam and Dean seem to be whispering amongst themselves quickly in the meantime.
“Where the hell have you both been? I have been calling and worrying since the last call. Bobby and I were going nuts not knowing what happened on the hunt. Couldn’t you have just given me a call from one of your back up phones or god damnit just text or…”
Your yelling was interrupted by Dean crashing his body into you and squeezing you in his arms. He buried his face in the crook of your neck and didn’t say anything. You were shocked. Dean never hugged you like this before. You always had a quick hug and a kiss on the forehead before heading to a hunt or maybe if you got lucky he held you for a few seconds longer. This didn’t seem to calm your nerves and only made you more anxious as to what was happening.
You slowly brought one of you hand up and buried it in his hair trying to soothe him and immediately looked at Sam who was standing a few feet away. He still had that stupid smile on his face and just shrugged.
“Okay, you both are scaring me. What is happening guys? What happened on the hunt? You said you saw a bright light after the spell and I heard nothing except for some garbled voices and the line went dead. I tried calling back and it just kept ringing without an answer. Is everything okay?”
Dean slowly released you from his grip and you immediately felt the loss. He looked at you with a smile and said “About the hunt. Everything is okay sweetheart. There are somethings we need to talk about though.”
You looked at him a little bewildered. Talk about what? Have you finally overstayed your welcome here at the bunker? Were you going to be kicked out? Damn it did you overstep the line by doing something you shouldn’t have?
Dean immediately sensed your thoughts and he tapped lightly between your brows with his finger and said “Stop overthinking sweetheart. This is nothing bad. At least I hope it isn’t.” He muttered the last sentence to himself, but you heard it. You quickly gave a nod and stepped back a little. Your nerves were still not calm and you couldn’t stop looking into Dean’s eyes to see if you could find anything suspicious. Nothing was wrong, those green orbs that still haunt you at night are just as sparkling and beautiful.
Sam spoke up slowly and it broke your spell “I am going to go and spend a few days at Eileen’s. I promised her that I would come visit her after the hunt.” This was weird. It seemed like Dean and Sam planned this.
“Okay man. Drive safe. Tell Eileen we said hi.” Dean spoke up. Sam smiled and came over to give you a quick hug. He whispered “Stop worrying. It is all going to go well with Dean. Text me after your talk” he then wiggled his eyebrows and walked towards the garage with his bag.
I turned around and Dean was still standing there. I gave him a small smile and told him to go shower and you would get food ready in the meantime. He agreed and disappeared behind the bunker walls on the way to his room.
You kept nibbling your lower lip while getting the food ready for Dean. Good thing you cooked one of his comfort meals. Roast chicken and garlic red potatoes. You weren’t a big cook, but got this recipe from Jody after Dean praised her regular Tuesday night dinner. You were lost in thoughts and haven’t heard Dean walking into the kitchen. The fresh scent of his body wash alerted you of his presence and you looked up. He just got out of the shower. Hair still damp and his grey Henley sticking to his torso and some sweat pants on. He held a bottle of whiskey that he saved for “special” occasions and two tumblers.
“You up for a drink with me sweetheart?”
Your heart fluttered every time he called you that. You smiled back and replied “Of course. The special kind huh? Our talk is either going to be a good one or a bad one.” You joked. Dean expression changed a bit and he replied “I hope it is a good one.” You kept wondering why he “hoped” it would be a good one.
He walked over and sat down at the table and you sat opposite to him. You quickly plated the food for both of you and Dean poured whiskey into the tumblers.
“So.. let’s rip off the band aid. What did you want to talk about?”
Dean took a sip of his whiskey and asked “Have you ever thought about where we would be in 10 years?” The question threw you off a bit. Have you ever thought about it? Yeah sure. You imagined being with Dean and being happy. In reality, you would sure like to be alive being a hunter and still hunting and helping people.
“Um, I never thought about it Dean. In our line of work, we just think about coming out alive after the next hunt. Right?”
Dean had a sad smile on his face and said “That is true sweetheart. But did you ever think of having a family of your own? Maybe kids? The whole apple pie life?”
That is, it.
You knew where this was going. You have seen this happen before where Dean convinced amateur hunters to give up hunting and settle down and have a life out of this mess. You were going to be preached the same sermon now. You will have to convince Dean that none of that was what you wanted. You would like it if it was with Dean, but you would never say that out loud. You were going to be firm about what you have to say.
You looked at him with angry eyes and said “No. I never thought about that Dean. I like hunting. I was raised a hunter and might as well die hunting.” You got up from the table and sprinted towards your room without another word.
Dean sat at his table with a shocked expression. He was trying to process what you said before you stormed off. He sighed. Finished his drink in a quick gulp and started to walk towards your room. Few seconds later he was in front of your door and stared at the number on the door. 9. He always wondered why you chose a room so close to his. He knocked softly and heard nothing. He knocked again a little louder. He heard you shuffling inside and the door flew open. You were crying. He knew that right away. But he also knew you were angry. He started to say something and you interrupted him with your raised palm signaling him to stop saying what he was going to say.
“I have heard this before Dean. I don’t need you to tell me that I deserve a nice house and family and a nice guy. I don’t need any of that. I am content where I am right now. If I die in a wendigo attack or by some witch’s spell I will welcome death with open arms.”
Dean’s expression changed to anger as well. “I would never let that happen to you Y/N. Ever. Fine! You want to hunt for the rest of your life. So be it and I will stand by you. And I am not trying to convince you to leave hunting. I just…I..” He started stumbling over his words and his kept looking at the floor not knowing what to say.
You frowned and lifted his chip up so he could look in your eyes and you asked calmly “What happened on the hunt Dean?”
He sighed and walked you towards your bed. You both sat down and you were eagerly waiting for him to speak.
“The hunt was great sweetheart.” He laughed a little. “The anomalies that were reported by Garth were indeed weird. Sam and I talked to the home owners and asked them to clear out their home for the evening. We thought it was a poltergeist or something. I had a psychic come over to do a reading of the house and there was nothing wrong. It was rather a new house built in early 2010s. White picket fence, wrap around porch. Nothing eerie. And these home owners were the first to live there.”
“What were the weird things they said were happening?”
“Their lights were flickering, but no cold spots were detected or EMF. The toys in one of the children’s bedrooms kept rearraigning themselves. And the funniest part was there were pop tarts and snacks missing in the kitchen”
You were confused. Snacks? Why would snacks be missing? Even if it was a child ghost, they cannot eat food. Right?
“Heh, I know what your thinking sweetheart. How can a child ghost eat snacks?”
You giggled a little.
“Then what was happening?”
“It was then we called you up. We wanted to see if there was a spell to summon the culprit that was causing this. We salted the den and completed the spell with your help. We then saw a bright light. Almost like a portal open. Our phones fritzed and I lost your call.”
You were curious at this point. “Then what happened?”
“There was a boy in his pjs. Maybe eight or nine years old. He looked like a deer caught in headlights. Sam and I were confused. He did not look like a ghost or neither did he look like one of the kids living there. And the kicker? He was munching on a pop tart.”
What? A kid was summoned?
“Before Sam and I could speak or say anything the kid started talking and kept saying sorry that he stayed up past his bed time. We were both were very confused. The kid looked at Sam and called him “uncle Sammy.” Can you believe that?”
At this point you were so confused. How did the kid know Sam? You look at Dean like he grew a second head.
He snorted a little “Yeah, we were confused too. We didn’t want to spook the kid so I asked him what his name was and how he knew Sam and where his parents were. At this point the kid looked at me with an even stranger expression. He said “Daddy you know my name. Its Dax. I know uncle Sammy. He is your little brother. Just like I have a little sister, Diana. Mommy and auntie Eileen are at Uncle Sammy’s house drinking grown up juice. You and uncle Sammy were watching the football game earlier.” I did not know what was happening at this point. This kid was dropping names and making up scenarios. And he called me Daddy. Can you believe that?”
To say you were shocked is the least thing to describe what you were feeling. You were confused. Dean has a kid? No he has two kids? Dax and Diana? Those names..
Dean started speaking again. “Y/N I was shocked. He was calling me dad and Sam was confused at this point too. I was speechless. I could not talk anymore and was mumbling words like an idiot. Sam took over and he started talking to Dax. I was in a vacuum still trying to process till a small hand grabbed my hand. I looked down and saw a small girl. She was maybe three years old. She looked at me with those big eyes and started talking. “Daddy, tell Daxy to share his pop twarts with me” And I lost it. The air felt heavy and I rushed outside. After what felt like eons Sam walked out and I looked at him questioning what was happening. He asked me to come inside the house. When I walked in, I was shocked to see what was in front of my eyes. There stood me, a little older me with a beard. He was holding hands with Dax and Diana and saying something to Dax. I already had hands on my gun ready to draw. I wanted to protect Dax and Diana at this point. He looked at me said “Before you do something stupid, let me explain. I will put these two trouble makers to bed and come back.” And just like that he vanished with the kids. I started panicking wondering where this older me took the kids.”
You did not know what to believe. Two kids? Pop tarts? Another Dean? With a beard? God, you needed a drink.
You got up and grabbed the whiskey bottle in your room and chugged a few sips right out of the bottle. Dean seem to understand what was happening and gave you some time. After you felt the warmth of whiskey in your system you simply walked over to your bed and sat in front of Dean asking him silently to continue
“When he reappeared, he started to explain how he is not a shapeshifter or a monster. He was very calm about this. Like this happened before. He asked us if we had any questions. Like seriously? Of course we had many questions. I do not know why but the first thing I asked was if the kids were safe. He laughed a little and said of course they were. I asked him to explain what was going on. Not sure why I trusted him, but I did.
He said “Ugh, where do I start? This happened before. Not this exact scenario, but maybe at this point I need to make a video about time travel.” And the air went out of my lungs. Time travel? Are the angels messing with us again? He continued talking looking at me “And yes as you guessed I am from the future. Dax has recently gotten a hold of my wife’s spell book and figured out an easy way to time travel. He kept traveling back to this house in whatever this year is and messing with the things around the house. And yes, this will be our home in the future. We bought it when our wife was pregnant with Dax. Again, don’t faint on me. Yes, we are married to a wonderful lady.”
It felt like you were crushed by a truck. Dean was married. To a “wonderful lady” living in a house with a picket fence and wrap around porch with two perfect little kids. Were you jealous? Really? Now?
Dean started talking again. “I thought somebody was messing with me. I asked him for proof. Even older I never stopped rolling my eyes Y/N.” And he laughed a little. “He said he will be right back and came back with a photo frame. When I saw the picture, I was both shocked and happy.”
After a few moments have passed Dean asked me “Would you like to see the picture Y/N?”
Did you really want to see the picture? A picture of Dean’s happy family from the future? On one hand you were happy that Dean found a life where he is happily married with kids and on the other hand the green monster was bursting to come out. You simply nodded your head. Dean then turned his phone on and gave it to you. What you saw next was overwhelming. Your eyes were clouded with tears and your voice was stuck in your throat.
It was a picture of Dean and you. You were in a simple wedding gown, your hair down and had one hand around Dean’s neck staring into his eyes with a big smile on your face. Behind both of you was Cas with a smile on his face and to your side was Eileen and Sam standing next to Dean. The backdrop looked like the bunker’s library. Both Dean and your expressions were that of a couple who were just pronounced husband and wife.
You held the phone tighter maybe to make sure it wasn’t going to go away and slowly looked up at Dean. He had the same soft smile he had when we walked into the bunker earlier and first saw you.
“Sweetheart?” he said in a low voice not to scare you. The tears dropped from your eyes and they burned your face. You wanted to ask if this was true, or if he was messing with you. But your voice felt heavy and stuck in the throat. Dean slowly raised his hand to cup your cheek and said “Yes Y/N. This is true. You and I get married in the future. I didn’t ask my older self for dates or timelines. I didn’t want to know anymore. The moment I saw this picture I took a picture of it and wanted to see you right away. Sam and the older Dean spoke a little as if to hash out some final details and then we headed to the bunker right away. Sorry we didn’t answer your calls. Our phones stopped working when Dax first appeared and I didn’t bother to stop and contact you…”
Dean was cut off when you brought both your arms around his neck and sobbed. He wrapped his arms tightly around you. You wanted this to be real. You wanted all of this. Dax and Diana, those names make sense to you now. You once had a dream after you realized you had feelings for Dean a few years ago. In the dream you had two kids. Dax and Diana.
You kept whispering something to Dean. He could not understand you. He pulled you away a little and held your face in both his hands stared into your eyes and asked “What is it sweetheart?” You finally gathered some energy to speak and asked him “Do you want this to be real? Do you want to that photo to be real?”
Without missing a beat, he replied “Absolutely.”
Without another thought you crashed your lips against him. He stumbled back a little, but held your body closer to his and deepened the kiss. Just then you knew with all your heart that you will marry the love of your life. You will have two beautiful children with him. You will have a white picket fence and a home to grow old together. You just knew then where you would be in 10 years.
