slowly moving my threads to here so:

Dick doesn’t cry often.

Its not a toxic thing, nothing of the sort. He just never was a big crier, even as a kid. He cried at his parents death, of course, but after that? It was a matter of survival, trying to get out of Juvie while trying to balance his anger on a tightrope.

Then Bruce swooped in, and he was even busier after that. He wanted to, of course he did, but he never had the time. He had to be Robin, he had ensure justice before grief could begin. And then, he had to ensure people lived safely. Surprisingly, that fulfilled him; seeing people smile almost broke through that shield of anger around him.

It took him a while to cry, it didn’t really happen until Jason passed. But those days blended together, he couldn’t tell what was real and what was just a hallucination. But he pulled himself together in the end, people needed him too much, and he had other things to distract him; never a moment to grieve however. He had to help train Tim, he had to do the little things that slipped Alfred’s notice in Alfred and Bruce’s grief. And besides, he had slipped the chance to truly connect with Jason (to ensure his safety), he has another chance. Not another Jason, but another person to connect and love.

Fear toxin works in mysterious ways. A hallucinogenic toxin made to target your worst fears. Dick’s never been one for holding back compliments, it was impressive. To exclusively target someone’s emotions, someone’s memories, was truly scientific genius.

Being young and far more exposed, fear toxin was something that he could withstand, but it didn’t mean he didn’t hate it, the figures dancing in the peripherals of his vision, taunting him. Pulling him down with them. Closing his eyes, he could see them, they were lights dancing under his eyelids. He’d never voice this. Seeing people he couldn’t save, hearing their voices and pleas and cries for help. And being helpless, knowing he couldn’t help them but still reaching out to them.

Just breathe. He could get through this. Just breathe.

‘Just breathe, Dick’ He heaved, spitting the saliva build up in his throat out, choosing to focus on the sensation rather the things in front of him.

He wouldn’t look up, he couldn’t. He knew what he’d face, and he knew it’d make him cry, and he refused to do so in front of all of this villains. It had been years since Jason’s death, it had been even longer since his parents death.

It hadn’t been that long after Damian had died.
