there's no greater betrayal than finally starting to read a book you've had sitting for months on your shelf or your desk or your nightstand and then finding out it's bad. like. i gave you a fucking home.

Milk weed is also stupidly easy to grow on accident 🦋🦋🦋
i learned about Tim Wong who successfully and singlehandedly repopulated the rare California Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly in San Francisco. In the past few years, he’s cultivated more than 200 pipevine plants (their only food source) and gives thousands of caterpillars to his local Botanical Garden (x)

My favourite weather is when the animals are like: everyone be quiet, the trees will sing soon. Then the leaves start rustling like they're warming up their voices before the rain while the clouds billow over the horizon like a stage curtain.
Very theatric, 10/10.

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).
Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.

Some of y'all Teslas out here driving like we don't all know where you live. You gotta park in the garage if you're gonna fake-hit cyclists in a bike lane my guy. I jog past your house twice a week; I know which lights you turn on when you leave and your dog doesn't even bark at me anymore. Just give it a little think next time, okay? Some people get creative when they're fed up with assholes coming for seniors, and old man Steve isn't just some cyclist, he's The Professor, and he has fan girls (and also cameras).

Starling House by Alix E. Harrow Review:
🎵 Song: This Is What Heartbreak Feels Like by JVKE (alt: Je te laisserai des mots by Patrick Watson)
📚 Vibes: pouting by a slow river in summer, you don't wanna go back yet, but the sun is stifling and the bugs are more annoying than whatever you're pouting about. You break sticks and toss them in, watching them float away and wonder if the river always smelled this bad, and then the breeze comes back and you turn your face to it and you'll go back later. You're not even pouting anymore, your face is just still like that when you hear the familiar scuff of flip-flops come to placate you with apologies you deserve but no longer need and you feel the smile twitch in your cheek but refuse to show it just yet

Listen, maybe this is TMI, but wearing mildly ratty underoos feels like such a flex to me. I don't mean tire tracks (gross, stop that), I mean like, the top band is unstitching from the fabric, or there's a run in the leg band from a thread I pulled instead of cutting and sealing in the elastic.
I spent my adolescence/HS years in peak gang-war territory where a drive home from school might be lights out (poorest square mile outside Detroit), so you thought about what you left the house in as casket clothes. Not consciously, just... the thought was there for a while, tied to any freedom gained by leaving a heavy, wind-knocked house. So when I go for a jog in underoos that aren't perfect, I think maybe it would be embarrassing to go to the ER, sure. Maybe I don't wanna get buried in them, or cremated or whatever, but I have a person who would care about that kind of thing now. I think that it's not that big of a deal what I die in.
It's nice not living so close to the edge of tomorrow. I haven't quite learned how to plan for a future yet, but I think I'm getting there.

Oh.... Ohhhhhhhh....... Yes.
that james baldwin quote where he says, “it took many years of vomiting up all the filth i’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before i was able to walk on the earth as though i had a right to be here.”
