Elemental Review
OH. MY. GOD.
I have no clue why it took me so long to watch this movie. I VERY aware that I am so late to this movie and I’m kicking myself as to why.
I had THOUGHT I had grown out of Disney and traditional children movies but apparently they are not ready for me to do so because this movie was a banger. I cannot speak for the rest of the movies that Disney, Pixar, or any other children’s animation movie company has put out this year. I didn’t watch those; Especially the new “Wish” movie that everyone is cracking down so hard on.
However, I did watch elemental.
I don’t know what it is about the Disney movies recently, but Elemental, much like Encanto, was AMAZING. I even watched the movie twice in one day because I needed to share it with my girlfriend. (To which they hated it because it made them cry)
There is something about the plot and the messaging with in the movie meshing together so well that just had me in a chokehold. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of watching this movie, in simple terms, the movie is about the love story between a fire girl and a water boy. T That’s pretty basic Disney stuff. It’s just a love story. But where this movie really changes corse is under the surface of said love story. Elemental explores immigrant problems and racial discrimination in big cities, among other things. That alone is pretty astonishing, especially for a Disney film, which are traditionally just love stories. The movie also goes deeper into the interpersonal relationships in interracial relationships and how outside influences, such as societal differences and parental pressures can affect relationships. As someone who is in an interracial relationship myself, I absolutely gushed at this portrayal.
The movie starts off with Immigration story. I won’t go too far into it for those who haven’t seen it, but it was an amazing starting point of the movie. Even though the audience have no idea what’s going on because we don’t know the premise of this world and the rules of it yet, educated viewers, who are not the children that this is necessarily geared towards, will understand the hints that we are given. We further go onto the conflict of the story, which is centered around the main character, Ember, and her father’s shop. That’s where she meets city inspector, otherwise known as the Water-boy, Wade. From when they first met, you can see that Wade is definitely the one who fell first and oh my God, I love a good movie where the love interest falls in love first, no matter what gender.
The movie progresses and the movie it makes it clear that Ember’s parents do not like the idea of water people being around. Mostly Ember’s. In fact, Ember‘s father, Bernie, hates water people because of the racial discrimination that he has endured in the past due to water and fire not mixing. They quite literally combat each other. His main and most memorable quote is “They keep trying to water us down”. Also, Ember does make it clear that Element City is not made with fire people in mind. She says “There will have to be a miracle to get me over that bridge.” The movie even showing the trains that push water off the sides that is very harmful to fire people. In the scenes featuring the city, there is water everywhere and while every other element is able to thrive in a water filled environment, it is clearly not sustainable for fire. This is a continuous discrimination towards fire people. Some people would argue that it’s not necessarily discrimination rather negligence and lack of better ways to fully support fire peoples needs. However, I don’t think that is plausible being seen that there are racial slurs in this movie geared towards the fire people.
Let’s not forget the iconic dinner scene, in which Ember meets Wade‘s family. Which in the scene his family were overall very welcoming towards Ember. However, they ultimately did not know how to react to her. At one point, Wade’s nephew almost pushes her into a pool of water asking her if she would die if she fell in. I’m aware that he is a kid but I was dumbfounded. Not helping their case, Wade’s uncle had told her that she speaks English surprisingly clear to which she replied, “It’s amazing what speaking the same language your entire life does”.
The dinner scene is also the scene where Wade first hints that he is in love with Ember. This is where she realizes that because they could never touch she doesn’t see the relationship working and it causes such a great sadness in her heart that she cries for the first time. This scene simultaneously tugged on a heartstring of mine, while reminding me that this is in fact a love story and not a political exposé on how people treat immigrants in America.
Throughout the movie, Bernie was consistently corrected on his English also. This annoys me throughout the movie. The words everyone corrected him on were words that you could tell what he meant. There was just no need to correct him and they did so just because he was wrong. Bernie really messed up his words when he was frustrated or flustered or feeling a great amount of emotion so it was warranted that he would mess up up on a language he had to learn so late in life.
I felt such a strong connection with Ember and Bernie, having such a strong connect to my father. They had such a good relationship. Sure they had their stuff but who doesn’t but they worked through it. I loved the healthy relationships throughout the movie but Burnie and Ember are my favorite.
The end of the movie also resonated a little hard with me too. As a person who has been called sensitive my entire life, Wade being such an emotional person showed me two things. It tells me that Disney is showing people that it was OK to be a little emotional, no matter if that means you have an uncontrollable temper or that means that you sob at every little sadness in life. As a person who can’t seem to get their emotions in check, that was such a good message to hear at the point that I am in life. The second thing that it showed me was Disney is trying to combat the idea that they have been pushing for literally a century about toxic masculinity. Never in my 17 years of life I have seen a Disney character (that was a male) cry so much. And on top of his crying, his family also cries the same amount as him showing them that they are emotionally mature people who can understand that being sensitive and having a lot of emotions isn’t necessarily a bad thing, even though they are seen to be a little dense.
Honestly, if I could, I would go on a literal 30 page tangent about how much I love this movie, and how much I wish that Disney would continue these types of movies for the next century to come, but I’m gonna spare you.
I don’t know if you haven’t got the message from this entire opinion piece but in my opinion, I think you should go watch this movie. Watch it with a loved one (or loved ones) and really soak in the messaging of the movie. Maybe you’ll hate it. Maybe you’ll find that some things were missing but I do think that it’s a movie worth watching. No matter if you find it horrible and it didn’t fully live up to the Disney potential that it could have, was it not still a good laugh?

The A List
I’ve been rewatching the A list and Oh My God.
I remember why I loved it so much. The dynamics and plot is what made me so invested. From the title and cover, you would have no idea what this show would be about. It’s a mystery from the start.
I do believe this is one of Netflix is a last shows targeted at the age group between 10 to about 15 where they’re too young to watch things like Euphoria and 13 Reasons Why but they don’t wanna watch Dora. And let’s be real, shows towards that age group get canceled quick, look at Julie and the phantoms for instance. Be honest, kids shows that aren’t like blow up bubble guppies and Sesame Street don’t really get as much attention. It’s like there’s no market for them at all.
Keep in mind I could be wrong. I don’t know every show that it’s on Netflix catalog but I do know what gets pushed and it’s not the family friendly shows.
But getting back to the A-list, the show itself has an amazing plot filled with mystery turns and a little bit of drama. But paired with that it’s also immensely diverse. I don’t believe the show is part of the representation matters collection that Netflix has, but it should be it even found a way to portray a healthy LGBTQ plus relationship without that being those characters main personality traits and still allowing for them to be a part of the plot outside of their sexuality. That is exactly how it should be because being gay is not a personality trait rather than a part of your identity but that’s neither here nor there. Not only that, but it does have characters of many races and ethnicities and I don’t think that that should be ignored.
The show also even made me finally have a main character that I dislike. I typically find a little bit to like an every main character but I don’t know something about Mia. She’s not exactly my favorite person in the world but she’s workable. I like the fact that you can see clear difference in her character development from the first season to the second season and unfortunately, there are only two seasons, 10 episodes each in the series. But in similarity to Mia, Amber is also equally unlikable. I don’t like the villain or the hero and that is very different for me. Usually I can find at least a little bit to like in a character and for those two characters I can find some moments where they are likable at least in the first season but overall they both suck. And make it even better. They both going out to the same boy, who is completely clueless, and it gets on my nerves BAD. But as for the background characters, I like them; They make the show very much worthwhile. I am not even talking about the gay ones.
I’m not gonna fully get into the characters in this review because I would like to do character reviews at some point in my busy schedule but let’s mostly talk about how I think shows like the A-list should get more attention from Netflix and Netflix’s viewers. I’m very disappointed they decided to cancel the showing a cliffhanger, and I do think that the show had a lot of potential artistically. Similar to The Greenhouse Academy, it does have painfully basic dialogue and I feel like they could have put a little bit more work into that and not continuously try to appeal to teenagers.
Besides that fact, it does have a good plot overall, I do believe that if the show was done by a company like HBO, they probably would’ve upped the antics a little bit and maybe it would’ve been less of a kid show but the dialogue would be way less painful to watch and I wouldn’t feel like I have to endure the bad parts.
With that said the show is what Disney wish they can put out. No hate to any of Disney shows. I just think that they think their viewers are idiots and you can see it in the dialogue that they put clearly little to no work into. Other than the dialogue, there is also things like the visuals and the outfit choices that I do like
They don’t dress their characters like adults they dress like teenagers. I can see any one of my friends wearing any of these outfit. They’re not something I would make fun of like in shake it up or some thing that would make me audibly gasped like in euphoria, but rather they seem like outfits that people from the ages of 13 to even 18 would wear.
Also, they are set in a seemingly realistic situation that a teenager could find themselves in. It’s just summer camp. The show was like Bunk’d on steroids. I feel like a lot of kids, especially in the US have had the experience of being sent camping at a summer camp. I mean not me, but a lot of kids have. The most I’ve been sent to our regular camps that are inside of schools but not camping but anyway, I digress.
The shots in the show are taken as if there’s someone watching them. It’s kind of like office style but less obvious. Within the shot, you can see leaves next to the camera or in the frame or they will take quick notice to food around and stuff like that I just appreciate the detailing of the camera work.
With that said…can we pay attention to the set?? The set itself has amazing earthy tones, as if it was an actual summer camp. I also like the fallen trees and the stumps that you can see around it and inside of the cabins they really put in detail, as if there were a group of teenage girls living in it. With that I also think that the make up that they put on the cast is realistic for teenage girls, because as someone who has gone out and been in nature environment, it didn’t stop me from putting on a little bit of eyeliner.
Overall, I would give the show a solid eight out of 10 because dialogue as you know is worth a lot for me and that’s the only thing that I see it missing mostly the only plot hole is that an occurrence because the show we are unfinished so I can’t even add that into the contrast of the entire show.

Oh my god I haven't been on this in a while. I was supposed to write a whole series, forgetting that I have AP classes and like 5 stories to write.
But alas, I am back.
So the next person is......... Deven
I know I was supposed to do Miggy or my girl Tory but you see, I would rather make that an actual project and not something I'm writing in the back of my math class. But that is not to say that Deven isn't important, she just has less material to work with.
Because it's been so long since my last rewatch, this is off the top of my head. I would watch it again but as I said, back in math class.
Little girly pop Deven is awesome to say the least. She was the saving grace in season 4 and she was the unexpected plot twist in season 5.
The scene where Johnny was like “I have a student I need to save,” and Chozen was like “Save dojo now, student come with” Ahhhh!!!! But that could have been in that Wattpad fanfic I was reading but either way… so slay
Personally, no bad things to say about her. I understand my sister. She was left and she didn't have the same connection to Johnny as the rest of them. She saw an opportunity and seized it. I respect it. I really think that karate was more of an extracurricular activity for her and not a lifestyle. We can all admit that they went crazy when it came to karate and Deven is just not that guy.
But being so serious, Deven is one of the key to the coming seasons as she has to do multiple dojos, has friends in all of them and last but definitely not least, she is TORY’S ONLY FRIEND!
That last reason is probably the best as Tory is mostly friendless. After season two, and the loss of Aisha, Tory has no friends. So when she became besties babes with Deven, it helped ground her as a sane person.
Also, we are in desperate NEED for more estrogen in this show. PLEASE.
I love my little boys but damn. The testrone is choking me. Even Mitch saw it.
Okay this is getting less about Deven and more about my complaints. I will quit while I’m ahead.
Rating on the Bestie scale: 10/10

So, I was watching Nailed It and it was a Cobra Kai episode.
Next thing I know, Gianni (Demetri) is calling Xolo (Miguel) Spooky Boy.

Best TV moment ever. During the entire episode, Gianni was just talking to himself and I gotta say, he is just like Demetri irl just nicer.
Maybe I'll take it easier on him in fanfic...idk

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

Ahh, Eli Moskowitz.
For all of you Hawk stands, I'll have you be glad to know that I have no immediate beef with Eli.
I mean, he did good this season. It was about reform for him, like last season. Even his shots at Robby were well deserved and we all know that. For those of you who would protect Robby with your last limb, understand that Robby did have the idea to cut his mohawk and we all know how much that mohawk meant to him.
But I wouldn't be writing this if I had no concerns. Did you really think this would be some essay on all the good things that he did? Nope. If you did, then you clearly don't know me.
Today, I would like to turn the class's attention on the ditching of Demetri.
Is it just me or he was just not there?
Not only that but Eli seems to have replaced him with none other than Robby? It was like he got a job and fell off the face of the earth.
I mean, why the hell was Yasmin there more than he was. Is that not weird?
And yes, I blame Eli. After all Demetri did to get him back in the game and he just leaves him? Bring him back!
Of course I'm speaking all of this without knowing what happens canonically offscreen. I'm just speaking on what I see in the actual show.
But with that said, Eli needs a really good lesson on "How to be a better friend."
He even left him out of the house party where all that shit when down.
Now we can get to the parts that I actually did like:
[ ] Eli helping Miguel with the necklace
[ ] The water park scene-yall know my real feelings on that but I'll go into a deeper that later
[ ] Bring out "Hawk" to fight Kenny
[ ] His changing of hair color being symbolic to him trying to find himself.
My overall rating for Eli this season is 9/10 which is probably the highest score so far.
I think up next is between Tori and Miguel. I have so much to write on both of them but I'm not sure

Okay, I think it's time to rant again. I took a small break but it's time to talk about how much Mitch's storyline in season 5 ANNOYED THE HELL OUT OF ME.
I didn't like it.
Especially the ending.
I mean, they were dropping small hints that he liked cobra kai the entire season, I will give them that. But I still feel his betrayal was unnecessary at the time it happened. It would have made way more sense of they just waited bc he could have been like a secret spy or something. I'm not made that it happened, per se, I'm mad at the timing.
And for it not to work in the way he expected it to?! Like what did he think was gonna happen?
Then again, if you look back at season three, he didn't leave willingly. He was kicked out and then his friends dropped him too. He was made to be an out to be an outcast, along with Burt.
But why didn't Burt leave also?
He went through the same things as Mitch. Though, Burt never got a stupid nickname. Burt had Nate to hold him down. He didn't lose a connection with Nate like Chris and Mitch did. I guess Mitch was a pushy friend and was always struggling to be popular and forced Chris to do the same. (Like Devi in Never Have I Ever.) Chris grew tired of that and detached himself alittle bit bcbhe was comfortable where he was. Nate and Burt never had that problem.
Now I have myself thinking...
Mitch got alot of bad luck for like 3 seasons in a row. And it is completely understandable why he left the way he did. No one still calls Chris his nickname. And I don't just mean from time to time. I mean like that's his actual name. He's constantly bullied and isn't as good at karate like the main characters. (But that's the point) He also is a girl obsessed teenaged boy and there aren't many ways for this awkward kid to meet girls, as they made that so clear. After the whole drama with the dojo went down, there really was much for him. I mean, was he really hanging with Hawk after that? Chris seemed invested with the Miyagi-do's and Mitch really had no place.
So to wrap this up, I understand Mitch's character and why he did it and I also see the build up they gave him but alas, I will not forgive the fact that he betrayed them for protein shakes and girls.
Overall rating for the season: 4/10 and that was me being generous.
Up next: Eli Moskowitz

The Waterpark scene was with the kids of the show but the adults aren't responsible (exept Carmen and Amanda(
The water park scene in cobra kai gets me so mad bc they made that seem like it was gonna be so entertaining just for the life guard to shut it down before anything happened TWICE.

Like I don't want to completely blame Harper but she never spoke up at least. And the fight. Like why are you fighting your ex best friend and then saying nothing of why. And then Sasha and Missy just going along with it? Another person who annoys me is Sasha and I'm still not done with the show.
In other news, Darren and Quinnie are literally what I live for. ❤️
