Y/n paces behind Lo’ak, Spider and Kiri. Her head hanging low as she slowly trudged behind them. Her hands were clasped in front of her, her fingers fiddling out of nervousness. She bit her lip furiously as anxiety settled deep with her stomach also causing her to almost retch. She couldn't help but feel fear, anxiety and nervousness about what's to come.
Neteyam, who had been pacing beside her slow pace, smirks in amusement. If Y/n had ears and a tail they would have been fidgeting like crazy right now. He found it funny how even though they were not the same species he was able to tell what she was feeling, just by watching her.
“You’re fidgeting” Neteyam points out, his tone laced with mirth.
Y/n jumped at his tone, her deep thoughts caused her to forget that the 8ft Na’vi was beside her. Smiling down at her as if she had done something funny.
“Am I? Why would I-I’m not nervous!”
“Didn’t say you were,” Neteyam smirks fully, watching how she didn’t seem to have control over her words. Y/n pouts, her cheeks flushing pink, a sight that Neteyam always adored.
“Wanna tell me what’s bothering you ka’lin flaw’m?” (Sweet cheeks) Neteyam teases, watching her cheeks burn brightly at the new nickname that has always enlisted the same response. Y/n sputters in embarrassment before being able to formulate actual words.
“I’-I….I’m just nervous. I haven’t met any Na’vi other than you guys…and I’m more scared about meeting your family” Y/n admits, her lips becoming more swollen at how harshly she bit them. Neteyam’s eyes soften at her words, slowing down to halt her steps as he places a comforting hand on her shoulder. He offers her a genuine smile to help comfort her.
“You have nothing to worry about Tsawksyul, you think Lo’ak did tell them about you?-'' Neteyam chuckles at the memory of their many shared dinners where Lo’ak spoke of Y/n with such interest.
His family had been notified of Y/n very early on and they knew she would come to visit them and the rest of the clan today. Though Neytiri was stern on the matter, after Jake reassured her that it would be ok she came to an understanding. Not too happy over the fact a human has been taking all her children’s time as of late. She agreed to it only because all her children spoke wisely and fondly of her. Especially her eldest, Neteyam.
“-He practically talked their ears off over the fact he’s met a human who can breathe without a mask! And about how kind you are. You are his favorite human and that’s saying something” Neteyam encourages, his ears standing up in happiness as a smile crosses the girl's face. Something he had been missing the moment he and his siblings came to pick her up from the base.
Y/n giggles, peering up at the taller male who had crouched down to her level. Her eyes fill with adoration as they trace over his features, her blush not ceasing as she utters out the next few words.
“Do you think I’m kind?” She asks, sounding hopeful.
Neteyam sighs out dreamily, his large hand tucking a strand of her soft hair behind her hair. He smiles softly, his eyes tracing over her eyes and landing on her plump lips.
“Kind, doesn't begin to cover how I feel,”
~~~~~~~
“Y/m/f/n?!?!” Neytiri calls when her eyes land on the tiny human walking alongside her eldest, who stood by her protectively. The little human in question casts a confusing glance between Neytiri and Neteyam, confused as to why his mother uttered her own mothers name.
“T-that’s…my moth-”
Neytiri roughly pulls away from her mate's grasp as she crosses the few steps towards the girl at an alarming speed. Neteyam braces himself to protect Y/n from his mother if needed, his legs ready to evade the attack that never came. Neytiri crouches down right before Y/n, pulling her in for a gentle hug.
“Oh thank you great mother, thank you!!” Neytiri whispers into the smaller girl's hair, tears streaming down her face. Y/n melts into the embrace, the feeling of a motherly figure holding her so delicately causing her to choke up as well.
Neytiri slowly pulls away, still holding the girl's shoulders as if she were scared that Y/n would disappear. Y/n wipes her face in embarrassment as Neytiri sighs out, as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Neteyam’s tail swishes behind him stiffly, carefully watching the entire interaction.
“Y-you knew my mother…?” Y/n asks softly, recalling all the logs and Norms and Max’s stories of her mother immersing herself in Na’vi culture, offering her aid and growing close to Neytiri who had been there the day she was born.
“I did. She was a wonderful woman, someone I called my sister….” Neytiri admits softly, her mate Jake quietly walking closer towards them. His eyes widening momentarily at the uncanny resemblance between Y/n and her mother they had lost years ago.
“I thought I lost both of you that day….You look just like your mother.” Neytiri muses, casting a glance at her son who was still weary of her being this close to Y/n. Neteyam smiles at his mother's glance, trying not to show how happy he was that his mother immediately accepted Y/n upon first glance.
“What's your name, little one?”
“Her name is Y/n '' Neteyam says softly, his eyes turning to Y/n.
A human that represented change, a new change that he welcomed with open arms. Maybe she is the key to their future, the key to live alongside humans harmoniously. She was a gift in his eyes, and his expression showed his feelings blatantly, which caused Jake to smirk.
“Beautiful ... .just like you” Neytiri whispers, wiping the tears from her cheek as she smiles fondly at Y/n.
Neteyam who still stayed beside Y/n the entire time smiles wide at his mothers words, words he truly believed as well.
~~~~~~~~
After the well received introduction to the clan a few weeks ago, Y/n was granted full availability into the clan. She was able to watch in on riding sessions of direhorses, she was able to watch Mo’at work her magic on wounded villagers and she was even welcomed to meals with the Sully’s.
Though there would be a tiny disagreement on where she would sit (mostly a disagreement between Neytiri and Neteyam, both wanting Y/n to sit near them) other than that her days were filled with lessons and adventure.
What she could only dream of, finally coming true at last. The villagers also recognized her efforts to help around, whether it be assisting the elderly with moving things she was able to carry to helping Mo’at with her healing practices. The villagers were happy and welcoming of her, wanting to get to know her as well.
“Hi!! I’m No’eng, I see you around the village a lot. Nice to meet you” A male Na’vi  who had approached Neteyam and Y/n as they were holding baskets for Mo’at, smiled at Y/n. Almost fully disregarding Neteyam who glares at the older, yet shorter boy. His curious eyes take in her form, analyzing her from top to bottom.
“Oh! I’m Y/n, nice to meet you too!” Y/n smiles wide, appreciating how the male chooses to crouch down to her level for an easier conversation. Neteyam clears his throat, the male’s attention leaving Y/n’s stature to face him.
“Hi Neteyam”
“Hi.”
“So….-” The male looks back at Y/n. Flashing a charming smile that has her blushing. “-if you ever want to hang around, I can show you some cool stuff. Also I’d love to get to know you better, I’m curious about a human as unique as you” he adds, flashing his pearly whites.
Feeling quite nervous  under his calculating gaze,  Y/n glances at Neteyam who had his jaws clenched tightly, “Oh-that’s nice but-”
“It’s ok No’eng, I’ve got her”
No’eng offers Y/n a quick smile before standing up to face Neteyam, who doesn't back down though he is speaking to someone who is older than him. “Oh. I thought you were busy with your duties?” No’eng asks, tilting his head in question.
“I can work around my schedule” Neteyam seethes through clenched teeth, his free hand reaching down to grasp Y/n’s tiny ones.
“C’mon Y/n, we're leaving” Neteyam announces, tugging her softly.
“Oh…ok. See you around” Y/n hurriedly replies as she follows Neteyam the longer route to Mo'at's tent.
“What was that about?”
“It’s nothing, let’s go”
“It sure didn’t feel like nothing”
~~~~~~~~
Y/n rests her head on her  palm as she lazily stares at the Na’vi in front of her, working on his bow. His fingers glide against the bow with ease as he carves delicately into the wood.
Y/n smiles softly to herself admiring the beauty that Neteyam provided. When did he steal her heart? She didn’t know. All that she did know was her growing infatuation with the taller Na’vi that she came to a realization not too long ago.
It just seemed like her love came out of nowhere, and at the wrong time. Y/n had been moping over her love for Neteyam as she watched the way several female Na’vi their age would approach him. All with the desire to mate the future Olo’eyktan.
Y/n knew her feelings had no potential. No matter how much she loved him, they were not the same species. Not meant to be. She couldn’t express her feelings even if she wanted to. They were of two worlds. And she knew she had no chance.
“Y/n?” Neteyam calls worriedly, catching the h/c girl off guard as she jumps in her seat.
“Oh sorry! You were saying something?” Y/n replies quickly, her cheeks stained crimson at being caught gawking at him. And if Neteyam noticed her lovesick stare, he didn’t say anything about it. His thoughts occupy his entire thoughts at the moment.
“Kiri saw you with No’eng yesterday”  he states, his eyes watching  her for any lie she would present. Unfortunately for him, Y/n was the purest soul he could have ever met. She never lied, her truth always slipping out of her.
“Oh yea! He ran into me on his way to the Tsahik’s tent. I helped him out with the minor wound he wanted to inquire about. Thank goodness I carry my medical pouch with me” Y/n says proudly, patting her pouch strapped to her waist filled with first aid as well as herbs she felt came in handy with her medicinal practice.
Neteyam clears his throat, noting  how she answered him so innocently. Clearly she didn’t have any ill intentions with her interactions with that specific Na’vi. But Neteyam knew, No’eng did.
“So you…helped him?”
“Yes!…was that wrong?”
Neteyam shakes his head, he always admired how easily Y/n jumped into helping anyone. But in this case he would have to pretend he didn’t feel too offended by her actions to spare her feelings.
“No, it’s just you’ve never done that for me”
Y/n’s mouth forms into an ‘o’, her eyes crinkling as she lets out an amused chuckle at his expense.
“Because you always come back unscathed. And when you do injure yourself your always run off to Mo’at before I can assess the injury”
Neteyam smirks at her words, proof that he was a great warrior, rarely getting hurt during missions and hunts. He slyly raises an eyebrow, leaning towards her his bow long forgotten.
“So you're saying if I get injured and come to you ... .you'll help?”
“Of course!”
~few moments later~
Y/n hums to herself, her fingers working carefully to pull the herbs she had been tasked to bring for Mo’at. She takes a whiff of the smell of the particular herb, the minty aroma filling her senses.
“Y/n!”
Neteyam bursts through the bushes startling Y/n and Tuk who was busy weaving a flower crown nearby. Neteyam was clutching his hand against his chest as Y/n ran to him in alarm, dropping the herbs along the way. Just as she is in front of him, her eyes trace over his body in worry. Landing on the hand he clutched close to himself.
“Neteyam!? What’s wrong?”
She shakily reaches out to bush her delicate soft fingers against his arm, missing the smile that spreads across his lips as he reveals the wound.
“Oh my god, what happened”
Neteyam shrugs off her concern, sitting down on the ground to which Y/n follows. Her hand rubs soothingly along the wound as she grabs her pouch in a hurry.
“I got a cut from my arrow”
Y/n bites her lips from laughing out loud as she works to clean and bandage the tiny but deep wound. The entire time Neteyam was unmoving, watching how she moved so gracefully to tend to his tiny cut and had not realized that she had finished before she even started.
“There, all better” Y/n announces, wiping around the wound while smiling down at her handiwork. Just as she finishes she looks up to Neteyam, only to catch his eyes already locked onto her, a shit eating grin across his lips.
“Why are you smiling like that…..” Y/n questions looking back at the wound and at his smug face.
Y/n tilts her head, his eyes widening in realization as she pieced everything together. Neteyam was very careful, calculated as you should be as a warrior. He wouldn't, he couldn’t get a tiny cut from handling a mere arrow head. It just wasn't like him. It was as if he…intended on getting hurt. Though very minor, it granted him a tiny precious moment with Y/n, the same moment he was jealous of nothing she did the same to No’eng.
“You planned this--didn’t you?”
“I have no idea what you’re insinuating Y/n,”
~~~~~~~~
“Oh!! That's pretty neat” Norm compliments, his fingers brushing over the beautiful rock on Y/n’s desk. Even in the dimly lit room of the base the rock glittering beautifully, graining his attention as Norm carefully picks up the beautiful rock for further and up close inspection.
Upon hearing Norm, Y/n swoops around in her seat. Her eyes widen as she quickly gets up to make sure Norm was handling the rock with utmost care.
“Careful!!!” Y/n says, cupping her hands near Norm’s as if ready to catch it should it slip from his firm grasp. Norm chuckles, his eyes scanning over her panicked state over a mere rock.
“What's wrong? This isn't my first time handling a rock Y/n, what's so special about this one?” Norm asked quizzically, his eyebrows raised as he finally set the rock back down.
He watched in amusement at how Y/n sighs out in relief when it's set on top of her desk. Her very sturdy desk where it had been placed, days ago.
“I-It's just a rock, a pretty rock! That's why-”
“Neteyam gave it” Spider butts in,  peeking his head in through the door. Y/n immediately flushes pink at his words, her lower lip jutting out in a pout.
It was indeed a gift from Neteyam, along with many others he had given her. He had been showering Y/n with little trinkets for a while now that she had carefully wrapped and added to her growing collection that was kept hidden in her room.
She didn't want anyone to ask questions as to why she had them or who gave them to her.  Her heart always soaring whenever Neteyam bought her something of Pandora’s beauty as a gift. At first it seemed out of the blue, but Y/n was ecstatic nevertheless.
And over time it progressed to a regular occurrence. Neteyam would bring rocks, features, flowers from his hunts and missions. He brought her anything that he thought was beautiful and could interest her.
He had even hunted and forged fruits for her, which he always asked his father if it was safe for human consumption before he presented them to her, which they shared in each other's presence.
Y/n loved the way his chest would puff out with pride when she would marvel at  his hunting and foraging stills. He had even weaved her a little pouch to carry with her when she was in the mood for gathering herbs or specimens.
Y/n felt honored that Neteyam always thought of her, butterflies would erupt deep within her when she would realize that on his missions he would take the time to find something for her.
Beautiful gifts that Y/n began looking forward to.
But that's all they were. Gifts. Despite a small part of her wishing they were courting gifts, Y/n knew that was too good to be true. Though she did notice how Neteyam never seemed to give any other female such gifts. She chalked it up to Neteyam taking his training and learning way too seriously to look for a mate. To him, she thought of herself as mere entertainment. A friend.
“Spider! You little!!” Y/n growls , trying to get past Norm to slap the smug look on her friend's face. Norm holds her back chuckling at her antics,  a small part of him panging with interest.
“Is this the first time?” Norm asks when Y/n shows no sign of going after Spider. Y/n opens her mouth to speak, to lie about how many gifts she had carefully stashed away for her viewing only.
“Plenty! Neteyam always brings her stuff from his hunts and missions! He even gave her the arrow head he had fashioned into a necklace from one of his very successful hunts!” Spider snickers, recalling how Y/n had blushed so intensely when she was given the very generous and thoughtful offering. The best gift in her opinion, that  she dared not to wear just to preserve it for all of eternity.,
Norm’s eyes widen, his jaw going slightly ajar. If that wasn’t a sign the Neteyam, the future Olo’eyktan, was courting Y/n. He didn't know what else it was.
“You're dead!!” Y/n hisses, running past Norm to run after Spider. His cackles fill the corridor as he rushes towards the lab, fully  intending on running outside where he knew he would most like loose Y/n. He hurriedly places his Exo-pack on while rushing past the door he had managed to press open in time.
“Come back here!!!” Y/n roars with bubbling anger, stopping to press in the code as the door swooshes open. She stumps in heavily, ready to murder Spider with her bare hands for embarrassing her only to stop a few feet from a smirking Spider. And Neteyam, who was crouched behind him.
A breathing mask hangs from his neck as he watches the anger from Y/n eyes disappear as she realizes Neteyam had dropped by, and was in the comfort of the lab.
“Uhhhhh” Y/n’s brain short circuits , her whole  face flushing deep crimson realizing how not only had she been angered over the teasing over the certain Na’vi. But said Na’vi also saw her stomp into the lab, fully angered. Could the situation have been any more mortifying?
“Hi Neteyam… h-…Hi!!” Y/n stutters, placing her hands being her back hoping he didn't notice her fists ready to knock Spider into a different universe.
“Hi Tsawksyul, is everything ok?” Neteyam asks, glancing in between Spider and Y/n. Y/n could have sworn Spider’s smirk widened at his words as she tried to force a smile.
“Yea bro, Y/n was just telling me how great I am. Isn’t that right Y/n?” Spider tilts his head mockingly as Y/n writes a mental note to deal with him later.
“Y-yea, that's right. What a…g-great guy” Y/n says through her clenched teeth.
Neteyam chuckles in amusement as he carefully crosses the distance towards Y/n. He pulls out his hair as he unwraps his fist. Y/n let's out a gasp as she stares at the beautiful gem, it looked ethereal as it glitters beautifully. It was clear, like water but had an iridescent sheen to it, a beauty Y/n had never seen.
“I found this gem near the river, I wanted to weave it into a band of some sort but I got a little too excited to show you. Do you like it?” Neteyam asks softly, nervously watching how Y/n’s focused on the gem that he places in her awaiting smaller ones. Y/n caress the smooth surface of the gem, her eyes marveling at its beauty.
“Like it? I love it! It's so beautiful Neteyam!! Thank you!”
Y/n leaps into Neteyam’s arms, catching him off guard for a second which he quickly recovers by wrapping his larger arm around her to prevent her from falling.
Though Y/n and Neteyam had grown extremely close to one another, other than holding hands and poking each other teasingly they rarely hugged. Y/n tried to implement  ‘friendly’ hugs into their daily routine, loving how her smaller body always melted against his larger one.
But choose no to continue on with it due to how much her heart would beat out of her chest. She didn't want Neteyam knowing how much she loved hugging him.
Unbeknownst to her, Neteyam always sought out her hugs, feeling like he was truly a fine warrior when he hugged her because when his body wrapped around her he felt as though he was protecting her. And the fact then when she was this close to him he was able to smell her, up close. A scent he couldn't help but adore.
“N-no problem. I'm glad you like it!” Neteyam replies as Y/n carefully pulls away to stand in front of him, smiling wide.
Neteyam felt his heart soar, his little Tsawksyul accepting another gift that he acquired for her. Setting hope deep within him as he secretly prepared the main gift he wished to give her soon.
~~~~~~~~
Y/n’s hand stayed clasped with Neteyam’s larger ones the entire walk here, especially when Neteyam had informed her he had something he wanted to show her. A surprise, in his words.
But once the ‘thing’ he wanted to show her came into view, Y/n’s hand immediately slipped through his finger as she mindlessly walked towards the beautiful; and breathtaking structure, her eyes drinking it in as she drew near.
Neteyam quietly watches how she steps closer to their sacred trees, her steps timid and careful, Her breathing escaping out on soft gasp as she scanned the trees from the roots to the highest tendril she could get into view.
Tumblr media
“This is the tree of souls, our most sacred place” Neteyam says soft;ly, making sure to keep his voice quiet so as to not surprise her in her awe filled gaze. Y/n slowly turns to  Neteyam, her smile stretching wide. She turns back to the tree as Neteyam’s ears twitch, his eyes traveling to the sky above as he notices a few Atokirina float towards him, his eyes growing fond at the sight.
“Wow Neteyam, it’s magnificent. My mother spoke of this place in her logs, she wasn't well enough during her pregnancy to come out to see it ... .I can’t believe I’m here” Y/n speak softly, biting her lips as her eyes gloss over sightly. Feeling overwhelmed. Neteyam nods at her words, the feeling radiating from the trees soothing and filled with hope.
“It's a place very important to us, it’s a place where prayers are heard. And sometimes answered” Neteyam explains, stepping closer to a tendril near him. He holds it within his grasp as Y/n watches it glow under his hold. Her eyes sting with slight envy knowing that the Na’vi can connect with such an amazing structure.
Y/n catches a glimpse of an Atokirina that floats closer to them, just floating above Neteyam’s head.
“I wish I could connect with it ...have a connection with Ewya like you do” Y/n mumbles out, her eyes watching how Neteyam smiles fondly at the woodsprite that landed on his palm. It flutters under his touch before it floats away, and towards Y/n.
Neteyam smiled reassuringly, his eyes watching carefully as Y/n reached out to let the pure spirit land on her palm. She smiles sadly at the spirit who stays there, finding comfort in her wrath as she refuses to move away, refusing to let the pure spirit leave her hand, the only thing that made her feel welcomed. A part of the clan.
“You do have a connection, '' Neteyam states, crouching down to her level. He scoots closer to her, his eyes dancing in between the woodsprite and her face as she tilts her head in confusion.
“Huh? How so?” Y/n asks, making sure not to scare the atokirina away. Neteyam chuckles, as if he knew something she didn't.
“You have a connection with Ewya, you are special Y/n. Don’t you see? You’ve been granted the ability to survive in our environment, with no aid from your human devices. Something that you are gifted with and others lack the ability to decipher.-” Neteyam smiles, watching Y/n’s eyes grow wide at his words. Her eyes gloss over with a thick layer of tears as she turns back to the woodsprite . As if to agree with Neteyam it flutters, tickling her palm to which she lets out a giggle.
“ -You've been chosen by Ewya, You are one of us Y/n” Neteyam adds just as the woodsprite slowly floats back up into the tree. Y/n faces Neteyam, desperately trying to hold back a sob. Neteyam places a hand on her shoulder, reeling her in for a hug. Y/n melts into the embrace, her hands forming into tiny fists, her face buried into Neteyam’s broad chest.
“Oh Neteyam '' Y/n whispers, her words shakily leaving her trembling lips. She tried to hold in her resolve only for it to crumble into Neteyam’s soft embrace, her shoulders shaking as Neteyam tried to soothe her, rubbing her back.
“Thank you,…thank you so much” Y/n mumbles, sobs racking her body as Neteyam presses a featherlight kiss against her hair, breathing in her scent deeply. If Y/n had not been so emotional she would have exploded at the gesture, but now, it felt reassuring. Comforting. For that fleeting moment she truly felt like one of the people, one of the clan, despite being a tawtute.
“Don’t cry my Tsawksyul, I’m only speaking the truth” Neteyam murmurs, his eyes turning above whilst still holding tightly. His eyes follow a few atokirina that float above them. As if approving of their union. Neteyam sighs out, his heart soaring above the clouds knowing this was a sign from his ancestors. From Ewya. That Y/n, was meant for him.
~~~~~~~~~
It's been several days since the faithful day Y/n had seen the tree of souls. And her heart had never felt any fuller. She didn't know how to exp[lain it, but she felt reborn. She felt one with the Na’vi, and the feeling of acceptance drowning her with pure happiness.
“Is something troubling you Y/n?”  Neytiri asks in the midst of rebranding Tuk’s hair.
Today Y/n had decided to visit her favorite Na’vi, other than Neteyam. Neytiri had been like a mother she never had, always treating her with such love and adoration. Y/n couldn't help but always want to stay in her presence.
“No! It's just…Neteyam took me somewhere the other day, and I cant get it out of my head” Y/n admits which only causes Neytri to smile slyly. She taps Tuk’s shoulder who jumps up, rushing out of the tent to show her friends her newly braided hair.
Neytiri scoots over to Y/n, taking a knife for herself to assist Y/n in cutting the fruit. The task she tried to keep her mind busy with, busy from the lingering thoughts of the spirit tree and the thoughts that consumed her from that night.
“Regarding the spirit tree?” Neytiri asks, her mind recalling how Neteyam approaches both her and Jake for permission to take Y/n there. They both had agreed immediately, sensing something deeply special with her.
Neytiri was surprised when Neteyam had come rushing back to tell them how the visit went, and how his questions deep within his heart had been answered. Neytiri was ecstatic that the response was immediate, and so positive. She knew Y/n was special, special enough to be more than worthy for her son.
“Y-yes. It was magnificent. I was so in awe…I felt at peace, as if I finally knew my true self….but”
Neytiri’s ears stand at her words, a small frown forming.
“But?”
“But, I have this…feeling. Questions that refuse to leave me….feelings I  don't think…I should be having”
Neytiri giggles bashfully. She would be a fool not to notice the longing glances Y/n always threw Neteyam’s way. As if he carried the entire world in the palm of his hand. Y/n couldn't look away from him, her loving gaze following him when he wasn't looking. .
Neytiri knew that Y/n loved her son, and she knew her son felt that and more for her in return. After the blessings from their ancestors, Neytiri had patiently waited for the day their union would be confirmed.
“Sometimes…..what you fear, what you're uncertain about is what you need,” Neytiri says softly, her ears standing as she hears hurried footsteps come near their family tent where they currently reside.
“Sometimes it's best just to follow your heart, no questions asked. For it's the heart that knows what you truly desire” Neytiri says softly, her hand reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind Y/n’s ear endearingly.
Y/n’s eyes widen, her heart getting stuck in her throat. Had Neytirii…indirectly given her blessing? Had she realized what Y/n meant?
Before Y/n could reply the tents flaps rustle, Neteyam walking through to see his mother and Y/n conversing closely. Neytiri catches how his tail swishes behind him excitedly when his eyes land on Y/n. His body betrayed him in showing how he reacted automatically within her presence.
Neteyam takes in a few deep breaths to calm himself down, nodding towards his mother before turning fully to Y/n.
“Y/n, will you please accompany me? I have something I wish to…speak about '' Neteyam says, his cheeks flushing purple. Y/n nods immediately, getting up to follow him out.
“May the great mother watch over both of you!” Neytiri calls, her smile only stretching wider knowing her son was finally taking the necessary steps into his future.
~~
“Y/n…I have something I want to give you” Neteyam says nervously under the spirit tree. Y/n was ecstatic when Neteyam brought her back to the spirit tree, but she did find it odd with how he acted. As if he was nervous. Fidgety. Shy even.
“Me? What is it?” She points to herself as she follows him closer to the tree. Neteyam nervously bites his lips as he comes to a stop, pulling something from a pouch tied to his waist. Y/n peers at the item, her eyes widening as a surprised gasp escaped her lips.
Neteyam delicately held a necklace, a necklace that he had been weaving carefully for a while now. Adorned with beautiful pearls and gems that he knew Y/n loved. And in the center of the necklace, was a beautiful round gem, with something in it.
“Oh my Neteyam, that's beautiful! Did you make this?” Y/n breathes out, stepping closer to inspect the beautifully crafted piece.
“Yes. I encased a Tsawksyul in amber to preserve it forever…..Because it represented you so well” Neteyam whispers, watching Y/n’s trembling fingers brush over the center. Her eyes caught sight of the Tsawksyul petals encased in the amber, a flower that would never wilt. For all of eternity. The very same flower he had called her, that meant so much to her.
Y/n accepts the necklaces as Neteyam reaches up to wipe the tears that cascaded down her cheeks unknowingly.
“Don’t cry Tsawksyul,” Neteyam murmurs lovingly, his heart beating wildly knowing that she had the necklace in her hands. A sign she had accepted it. Accepted him and all he had to offer.
“Sorry, it’s just so beautiful...but should you be giving me such a beautiful necklace?” Y/n asks, turning to face Neteyam. He frowns at her words, his eyebrows scrunching quizzically just as he crouches down fully to her level.
“Why not? Do you not like it?” He asks timidly, his ears folding against his head in sadness.
“No! I love it,…but I’m aware that in Na’vi culture men create gifts for potential mating partners. I don’t want anyone to misunderstand when they see me wearing this”  Y/n counters nervously, making Neteyam’s frown deepen.
“Surely you didn’t mean anything like that…right?” Y/n asks softly, her heart breathing at the thought Neteyam would have to give a gift like this to his future mate. Eventually.
“Are you,…rejecting the gift?” Neteyam asks, the color draining from his face.
“No! I…I”
“Because that’s what it means Y/n….it’s a courting gift,.” Neteyam explains softly, Y/n freezes when realization hits her like a ton of bricks.
“Neteyam,”
“Y/n….since the moment you stumbled into my life everything has changed. From your presence, your scent, your eyes and your beautiful voice, I’ve been entranced. I knew you were special but I didn’t know you’d grow to be this special to me. For the past month I’ve been showing you I could be a good mate, I’ve shown you I could provide and gave you trinkets you love and adore. Just to see you smile. I even asked my family for their acceptance, Mother and Mo’at agreed happily…..I thought you’d feel the same-”
“I do!! Neteyam-'' Y/n blurts out, her cheeks stained bright red at this point. Neteyam’s ears perk up at her words, his eyes trained on her as she gathers her courage to formulate her feelings in a proper way.
“Neteyam. You took my breath away, the moment I laid eyes on you. Both figuratively and literally. I was enamored with you the moment I  got to know you I just….I just never thought you'd feel the same for a human like me. I---we could never truly bond Neteyam….I'm..Human.….”  Y/n whispers, wiping her stray tears away. Neteyam frowns at her confession, his hands pulling her hand away to cup her cheeks.
“Tawksyul, how can you say that?” Neteyam felt his heart beat wildly at her confession but also shattered knowing she felt like that.
“Y/n Tsaheylu is a bond. Bonding can be anything. For instance I feel so close to you when I hold you like this, when you smile at me. When youre beautiful eyes watch and follow me. I couldn't feel closer to you. I feel a bond between us. That's why I cannot stray away. It's like I'm tied to you somehow. We don't need tsaheylu when I connect with you in every other way.” Neteyam murmurs, his face inching closer as he finally rests his forehead against hers. Y/n closes her eyes at the sensation, still tightly gripping the beautiful necklace.
“You’re not just some human, you are special in every sense of the word. I love you for everything you are and everything you will be. That day we met…it was fateful, written in the stars. It's as if Ewya brought us together, I wouldn't have it any other way.” Neteyam admits, watching her beautiful eyes flutter open. Y/n chokes on a sob, her free hand places itself over his larger ones.
“Oh Neteyam” Y/n whimpers, her nose ticking against his. Neteyam chuckles heartedly, his own eyes stinging with tears, tears of joy and fear of rejection.
“So, will you have me? For life”
“Yes Neteyam. I couldn't have it any other way. I love you.” Y/n whispered, her lips ghosting over his own. Neteyam sighs out shakily, his heart feeling full under her heavy response. He gently presses his lips against her, feeling her warmth spread against his entire body. The kiss he had been dreaming of for months, feeling that much more surreal now that he felt her press up against him. He couldn't be happier for Ewya bringing them together, many moons ago. Neteyam slowly pulls away from this kiss, his eyes endearingly watching the way she tried to catch her breath. His lips swollen and pink, begging to be kissed again.
“Oel ngati kameie Y/n, my precious yawne,”
“Oel ngati kameie Ma’Neteyam, forever and always”

Tumblr media
Y/n’s Ikran lands beside Lo’ak’s Ikran with a screech of alarm, occasionally glancing back at her rider out of concern.
The entire ride back to the base she was able to feel her rider's pain through Tsaheylu. She was able to feel her suffering and the numbness that spread throughout her. Y/n bites her lips harshly to hold back a whimper, her hand shakily reaching out to rub her Ikran in reassurance as she quickly disconnects her kuru.
She hops down from her Ikran, who nudges her head against her shaking body to help her stand. “Thank you” Y/n whispers, clenching her hands into fists to ignore the pain.
She rounds her companion stopping in her tracks as her legs wobble beneath her. Her eyes trace over to where Jake stood in front of his sons and mate, Tuk hugging her mother tightly as Kiri worriedly assessed the damage on her brother.
Y/n quietly trudges towards the group, her ears pinned against her head realizing the lecture she would be in for. She had disobeyed orders just like his sons, she was on the same boat as them.
Y/n catches how Neteyam shifted uncomfortably, and how he blinked rapidly as if to keep himself from crying.
“You're supposed to be spotters, you spot boogies and call ‘em in-from a distance! Does any of this sound familiar-get here!” Jake roars with anger, gesturing for Lo’ak to step closer. His eyes stop momentarily on Y/n, his nostrils flaring in anger. Turning back to his sons he shakes his head in disappointment.
“Jesus I let you two geniuses fly a mission and you disobey direct orders!”
Y/n looks over at Kiri who examines her brother in worry. The stinging feeling of fear settling deep within her stomach. She felt her heart sink as she noticed the traces of blood over his chest, her fault for not taking care of him. For not protecting the sons of her leader.
“Kiri, can you help your grandmother with the wounded? Please?”
Kiri reluctantly turns her attention to her father, “My brother is wounded”
Seeing Jake grow more impatient, Neteyam raises his hand in a stopping motion, his eyes still trained on the ground below him. “It's fine” Neteyam whispers, stepping away from his sister who sighs in reluctance.
“Babygirl please. Tuk go with her, go”
Kiri huffs, pulling away from her brother to head for her grandmother's tent.
Neteyam lifts his head to face his father, noting movement from his peripheral he takes note of how Y/n had joined them. Her stance wobbled as she stood near Lo’ak. He bites down the hiss that threatened to break through knowing she was getting an up close and personal view of him getting chewed up by his father. How humiliating.
“Dad-sir, I take full responsibility” Neteyam turns his attention back to his father, ignoring her gaze that he felt hot against his skin. Lo’ak who was beside Y/n turns to face her, his face contorting to look of concern seeing her face look pale as she limped to stand by his side.
“Yea you do, that's right. ‘Cause you're the older brother you gotta act like it.” Jake growls, his mate stepping forward to intervene. Neytiri stares deep into her mate, her eyes holding great disappointment, she opens her mouth to speak only to be caught off by another.
Feeling a bit of courage Y/n speaks up, her voice small compared to her leader's booming tone.
“S-sir your son is bleeding” She says softly, her concern for the male outweighing her own pain at the moment. As much as Neteyam irked her, she couldn't help but worry.
At the sound of her voice the family turns to face her, Jake glaring into her tiny figure as Neytiri and Lo’ak both scrunched their eyes in concern. She didn't look well, she could barely stand properly, and Neteyam had also taken notice. His tail flicked behind him in alert, his heart dropping when he caught how her breaths came out ragged
“And you? I gave you a task, an important mission to fight alongside Neytiri and you blew it! You disobeyed my orders and left her alone-”
“Ma’Jake” Neytiri interjects her tone dangerously low. She felt worry pang through her as she gazed at the girl in front of her.
“-What if she had gotten hurt? Huh? The point of you being there was to assist her! if you stayed at your post you could have spotted the enemy ships…. I had higher expectations for you Y/n. You've disappointed me today”
“I’m-m s-sorry sir…”
Y/n looks down, blinking rapidly to suppress her tears as well as clear eyes of the black splotches that invaded her vision. Neytiri hisses at Jake, her tail swishing behind her stiffly.
Neteyam took a tiny step forward, his heart hammering against his chest. He thought watching his father belittle Y/n would bring a sense of happiness or accomplishment through him but it did the opposite.
He felt the need to shield her from his father's eyes as she looked down at the ground, her head hung low. His eyes trail down her form, eyes blowing wide when he catches the sight of crimson that nearly stops his heart.
“Ma’Jake, what she-”
“Y/n?” Lo’ak calls in alarm, stepping closer to the wobbly girl in concern . At his tone Jake's eyes soften looking over at Y/n. He feels color drain from his face as he notices the metal piece lodged into her thigh.
A gasp escapes Neytiri as she stares at her in horror, and the pool of blood that surrounds her.
It's as if Neteyam lost control over his body for a moment when he had registered where the blood was coming from, his legs carrying him towards her with no regard to his own injuries.
“M’sorry” Y/n mumbles, her body losing all strength as her vision blacks out. She goes limp falling towards the floor. The only thing she remembered before she was sucked into the abyss was a warm pair of strong arms catching her just in time, and a sound of someone calling for her with urgency.
“Y/n!!!”
~~~~~~~~
Y/n groans, her eyes fluttering as she tries to adjust to the dimly candlelit room. She frantically looks around as the previous day's events flash across her mind.
“Y/n” Tarsem’s soft voice calls, causing her eyes to snap to him. Y/n first notices that she is in the comfort of the Tsahik’s medical tent, surrounded with helpful gear and tools Mo’at would use for healing.
“T-Tarsem?” Y/n croaks, the pain from her leg stinging like crazy. She glanced down to her bandaged up thigh, the pain had subsided greatly but she was still able to feel it. Especially the numbness around the thigh rendering her immobile.
Tarsem rushes to her side, kneeling beside her with his eyes creased in concern. Y/n tries to sit up to which he gently pushes her back into the comfort of the cot she laid upon.
“W-what happ-”
A violent fit of coughs racked her body, her throat feeling dry as she tried to speak. Tarsem pulls her up half way, bringing a cup of water to her lips which she greedily gulps down. Her breath heaving as she tried to compose herself,
“What happened?” Y/n asks as she was able to settle down, with his aid she was able to sit up, her hand reaching down to gingerly trace over the heavily bandaged wound. Her eyes dance over to the bowls that were set up beside her, rags filled with blood placed in the bowls of water, staining the blue water crimson.
“You fainted due to blood loss. The injury-the wound was terribly deep. You’ve bleed so much you…you could have died!” Tarsem winces through clenched teeth, his hands forming fists by his side. Now that Y/n was sitting up right and up to his level she was able to see the tears stain along his cheeks.
“H-how long was I out for?” Y/n whispers, noting how it was only Tarsem by her side. She cursed herself for feeling a bit saddened that Neteyam wasn't present, but who was she kidding? She knew he hated her, but why did her heart want him there?
“Two days. Mo’at wasn’t sure if you’d wake. Your wound kept bleeding and she had to change your dressings many time” he informs, making Y/n wince at the news.
“That must have been awful, I’m ashamed to have put that much burden on her” Y/n mumbles to herself. Tarsem’s eyes snap to her face, his soft eyes squinting in anger.
“Are you kidding? You are worried about Mo’at taking care of you and not over that fact you almost died Y/n? What the hell were you thinking coming onto the battlefield like that?” Tarsem growls, his brotherly instincts taking flight as he keeps glancing at the bandaged wound.
“I had to! Lo’ak and N-Neteyam were there. You know it’s our duty to-“
“No! It’s my duty! I should have done something about it. I shouldn’t have given Lo’ak that gun in the heat of the raid. If I had been more alert you wouldn’t…you wouldn’t have..” Tarsem chokes on his words.
He felt responsible for Y/n, always has. The moment she started living with his family, he knew she would become the sister he never had. When she wanted to become a warrior like him he had mixed feelings, a part of him was ecstatic to have such a devoted student. The other half was afraid of having his baby sister out there in danger.
He knew the consequences of making her a warrior, but when Y/n stressed how she wanted to respect her departed parents by becoming a strong warrior, he knew he had no room to argue.
“Tarsem, it’s not your fault” Y/n says sternly, her voice trembling under the weight of her current state. Tarsem shakes his head. It was his fault, he felt it. This wasn't becoming of him as a future powerful warrior to serve the Olo’eyktan. Mistakes were made he would make sure it would never happen again. He would protect what was important to him.
Some rustling outside the tent caused the two to turn towards the entrance. Lo’ak’s head pops into the tent, his eyes widened with happiness seeing Y/n awake and alert. He quickly rushes in followed by Kiri who is carrying a basket filled with herbs.
“Y/n, you're awake!!” Lo’ak exclaimed, he crouches down to her level, his hand reaching out to carefully stoke her cheeks. He desperately wanted to pull her in for a hug, but the guilt in his heart prevented him from doing so.
“I’m fine! I’m not that fragile, guys” Y/n teases, Kiri takes a seat on the other side to inspect her wound. She smiles to herself noticing how the blood didn’t seep through the new bandage. Proving her prayers had been answered.
“Y/n” Lo’ak calls softly, retracting his hand a to sit cross legged on the cool floor. His ears folded against his head, his tail twitching nervously knowing Tarsem was watching him like a hawk.
“I’m sorry for…everything. Neteyam wouldn’t have come after me if I didn’t disobey orders and you wouldn't have gotten involved. You wouldn’t have gotten hurt saving Neteyam,”
Y/n flushes dark purple at his words.
“H-how” Y/n stammers, her bashful eyes landing on each Na’vi who nods.
“Yes, mom saw you from the air. She saw how you put yourself in harm's way as the bomb went off. You saved Neteyam.” Kiri informs, grinding some of the herbs she had bought with her, Y/n nods, forcing a smile. She couldn’t help but wonder if Neteyam knew.
“Neteyam knows” Tarsem says quietly, making the blush on Y/n face worsen and the knot in her stomach grow. Not only did the Na’vi who hated her guts, got lectured by his father but he also knew Y/n saved him. How mortifying. Y/n sighs knowing that this would only strength his hatred towards her,
“Don’t worry about it Lo’ak. What matters is that we’re all fine and that you learned from your actions . Best not repeat them, yea?” Y/n says softly, making Lo’ak smile in appreciation.
“I won’t!”
“Good, now can you please get out, you skxawng! I need to asses her!” Kiri butts in with an unimpressed roll of her eyes. Lo’ak chuckles before placing his hand over Y/n’s resting hand over her lap, giving it a light squeeze he quickly walks out to let Kiri do what she came here to do.
“I’m glad you ok” Kiri whispers, adding the herb paste into some water, Y/n slightly cringed at the bitter smell that engulfs her senses as she passes over the cup which she reluctantly accepts.
“Thank you and Mo’at for helping me. It was stupid of me for being so careless” Y/n chuckles, her eyes landing on Tarsem who still paced around in the tent. She looks back at Kiri who acknowledges how odd Tarsem had been acting.
“Let him be, he has been worried sick over you the past few days” Kiri whispers, noting how Y/n slightly furrowed her eyebrows as she recalled the words Tarsem had sent her way before the Sully siblings arrived.
‘He was worried, he even blamed himself’
“Y/n” Tarsem calls, coming to a halt.
“Yes?”
“For the next few weeks you’ll be land bound no more flying until you’re fully healed-“
“Bu-“
“No buts! It’s Tsahik’s orders. Right Kiri?” Tarsem glances over at Kiri who agrees enthusiastically at his words. Y/n groans in annoyance, taking a sip of the bitter liquid Kiri had supplied to her, a disgusted shiver going down her spine.
“I’ll let mother and father know that your awake. In the meantime rest, I’m being serious. If I see you out of this tent, there'll be consequences ” Tarsem hisses the last part, his tail thumping behind him to convey how serious he words were.
“Yes, I understand” Y/n murmurs, her ears folding in defeat. Seeming happy with the response Tarsem nods to Kiri before quickly exiting the tent.
“Don’t worry, he is just acting like that out of love” Kiri whispers, seeing the firsturated look on Y/n.
“I know….I just feel useless not being able to do anything”
“We’ll, get used to it. Mo’at knows how stubborn you are, she’s going to have someone in this tent over the course of the night to watch over you. Make sure you don’t…escape”
Y/n hums, glaring at the remaining medicine in her cup. Letting out one sigh of defeat she drowns the entire drink in one go, gagging as the thick liquid travels down her throat.
“H-how’s Neteyam?” Y/n asks after a while. Sticking out her tongue in disgust at the taste of the medicine.
Kiri frowns at her words. Cleaning up her equipment she brought with her. “He’s ok, Mo’at was able to treat him right away after he was able to catch you-“
Y/n flushes in embarasembt at her words.
“But other than that, he hasn't come by once to check if you’re ok.”
‘Well….that’s not a surprise’
~~~~~~~~~
Over the past couple of days Y/n’s days mull together as her boredom reaches a new high.
With a constant eye on her she was unable to escape the tent under any circumstances, much to her dismay.
During the day Mo’at would be in the tent tending to warriors while watching over her, and overnight Y/n would be under the watchful eye of either Kiri, Lo’ak or Tarsem’s parents. They would always alternate but not once didn’t Neteyam step into the tent.
A couple of hours after she woke up, Jake and Neytiri rushed into the tent. Jake expressed how furious he was over Y/n when she disobeyed orders but he stressed how he was glad that she was safe. Neytiri didn’t let go of Y/n’s hand the entire time she was by her side. Thanking her for protecting her son.
Kiri and Tuk were the best company Y/n had, they always kept her busy with engaging conversations not related to her injury so she didn’t have time to sulk over it.
Lo’ak was also great company but his constant stories of what he was able to do in his free time now that he was grounded from flying, only made the older female Na’vi feel envious each time.
And despite loving Tarsem, Y/n disliked when he was in charge of her the most. He seemed to worry over her more then his parents. Always blaming himself despite what Y/n assured of him. The man tortured himself with his regrets. Never seeming to want to live it down.
“Drink this, and don’t think of getting Lo’ak to throw it out for you. I’ll figure it out and I’ll double your dosage for next time” Mo’at threatened, placing the cup by her bed. Y/n forces a smile, her stomach dropping at the threat that held malice.
After the current day Mo’at was getting ready to leave for the comfort of her own tent.
“Don’t worry, I’ll finish it. I want to be able to leave as soon as possible” Y/n says softly, glaring at the green liquid that seemed to taste worse day by day.
“Good” Mo’at grumbles before heading out and leaving her alone.
The tent falls silent with the occasional sound of the wind hitting the chimes placed above the entrance, Y/n shuffles herself around for a comfortable position, not bothering to look up when the entrance ruffles, indicating that someone must have come inside.
“Hi Lo’ak, I’m sorry for-“
Y/n freezes once her eyes land on yellow orbs that stare into her own. She felt tiny under the gaze, the Na’vi’s posture stiff as he closed the entrance behind him. Y/n gulps in slight fear, looking down to her clasped hand that began to sweat.
“Y/n” Neteyam calls sternly, stepping closer to her.
Y/n chooses not to look up, waiting for him to speak again. After recalling that Neteyam knew about her going out of her own way to protect him Y/n was glad he didn’t make the effort to visit her. And now that she was alone with him she felt her stomach churn.
“Why….why did you save me?” Neteyam asks gruffly, causing the smaller girl to flinch.
After moistening her lips she peers up slightly. Her lips part as she tried to find her voice, clearing her throat in the process.
“I don’t know what you mean. The explosion was so severe that we ran into one another” Y/n didn’t know why she thought of lying, maybe it was the embarrassment she felt or the way Neteyam clenched his jaw in anger.
“Y/n I’m not stupid. I was there, I felt you go out of your way to cover me. I don’t need anyone to tell me when I was aware the whole time”
“It was in the heat of the moment”
“You always do this!”
Y/n furrows her eyes at his raised voice, his veins on his neck protruding out due to his anger. Y/n found it harder to respond to him as she watched him sigh out, bringing his fingers up to pinch the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
“You always go out of your way for others putting yourself in danger. Does it please you to feel superior? Do you like feeling like a hero?”
Y/n flares her nostrils at his words, her eyes twitching in anger.
“What the hell Neteyam?! I do what I must for my clan. For my people…for my leader. I don’t do it for glory or fame. Like you” Y/n seethes, her fangs poking against her mouth. Neteyam’s eyes glow in anger in the dimly lit room. His own fangs breaking through with a hiss in response.
“Hah, well, it doesn’t seem like it when you are always praised for your actions.” Neteyam laughs dryly.
Y/n’s ears fold against her head, cursing at herself for even worrying for a boy like him who couldn’t get his head out of his ass due to his ego.
“I’m done with this conversation. I’m sorry I saved you, I’ll make sure no one acknowledges what I’ve done-“
“That’s besides the point!!”
Neteyam paces around the tent, his steps carrying him closer and closer towards the entrance.
“You….you”
Neteyam’s back faces her when he comes to a halt, heaved gasps of anger escaping through him as he recalls something of the past.
~Flashback~
“Wow you’re so cool Y/n!”
Y/n smirks triumphantly as her finger working over the arrow head she was busy carving at the moment. Neteyam sat in front of her, his eyes drinking in the way her finger worked tirelessly against the sharp edge, sharpening it with precision. Great precision for a 10 year old.
“Really? Thanks! Tarsem taught me, you'll learn soon enough and I’m sure you will be better than me!” Y/n encourages which only widens Neteyam’s smile. His eyes shine with admiration as he glances between the girl and the arrow.
For as long as he could remember Y/n was always a part of their clan, always wandering around and trying to learn something new everyday. He couldn't help but feel drawn to her carefree yet strong spirit. He wanted to be like her, as a 9 year old, Y/n looked like a perfect idol for him. Other than his father and Tarsem who had been the hot topic amongst the clan for a while now.
“You think? You’ll help me, right?” Neteyam asks, his eyes gleaming with hope. Y/n chuckles, turning up to meet his eyes. He felt his heart rate quicken, he felt his stomach erupt with a fluttery feeling as they looked into each other's eyes. She was the prettiest female Na’vi he had ever seen, and seeing her in such a light only made him feel this weird feeling more and more as days progressed.
“Of course! But I don't know everything. You’ll have to ask Tarsem.” Yn says making Neteyam frown.
“No! I only want to be taught by-”
“OW!”
Neteyam flinches at the sound of Y/n yelping in pain, his eyes widened, his breath hitched in fear at the sight of crimson dripping onto the forest floor. Y/n clutches her finger, shakily clutching the wound tightly. It wasn't a large cut, but it was deep enough for blood to come pouring out, scaring the poor boy.
“Y/n!!”
Neteyam reaches out to clutch her hand, fear and worry blinding him. Just as his fingers brush against her she quickly pulls away, evading him while smiling nervously.
“I'm fine! It's fine! I'll just go the Mo’at to get patched up!” She says reassuringly, making Neteyam frown at her words.
“Let me see it, how bad is it? Neteyam asks, his voice shaky, he reaches out again only for Y/n to stand up, him following her mom even in confusion.
“Neteyam it's fine, really. You of all people should not worry over a minor cut! It nothing”
“What do you mean? Why can’t I worry over you?”
Y/n rolls her eyes playfully, taking a step away from Neteyam who watches her with furrowed eyes.
“Because you are like my baby brother. How would I feel if I let my baby brother worry about me?!”
Neteyam’s ears flatten against her head. He didn't know why but the term ‘Baby brother’ sent a sickening feeling through his gut. He didn't like it, not one bit.
“Baby brother? You see me as a baby brother? What's that supposed to mean?”
“C’mon Neteyam, you're younger than me. And I should be looking after you! Not the other way around dummy!” Neteyam’s head dropped at her words.
The first feeling Neteyam felt surge through him was anger, the feeling of being incompetent sitting deep with his tiny form.
Was this her way of saying he wasn't worthy of her? That he wasn’t good enough for her? That she didn’t believe he could protect her?
“Is…that all I’ll ever be to you? A ‘Baby Brother’ who has to be protected by…you??”
“Is that wrong?”
~Flashback end~
“You've always been like this” Neteyam whispers , his back still facing Y/n as she fiddles around with the cloth draped over her legs to prove warmth. Feeling confusion ring inside her as she clears her throat.
“What?”
“You've always been like this. You always acted like it was you against the world, you never wanted anyone's help or anyone to care for you. You made me feel….you made others feel useless…”
“Neteyam. I don't know what you mean?”
Neteyam laughs dryly, still refusing to turn around and face her. The way he clenched his hands into fists, his veins protruding along his arms in anger didn't go unnoticed by Y/n who gulped nervously.
“Nothing, forget it. It doesn’t matter to you how anyone feels as long as you are covered. And that…makes you the most selfish person in the room”
~~~~~~~~~
Y/n couldn’t seem to get the argument she had with Neteyam over her head for the next couple of days. After that day he never came around again and Y/n tried not to focus on that. She didn’t know why he became so cryptic near the end but the fear from his words stung deep making her question herself.
“So that’s why I be late, is that ok?” Lo’ak says, tilting his head as he waited for Y/n’s response.
“Sorry, what?”
“I said Spider and I have an adventure planned in the afternoon tomorrow. I might be late coming in tomorrow,”
Today Y/n had finally gotten some good news regarding her injury. It has healed splendidly, but Mo’at still wanted her in bed rest for the next few days for observation.
“Just you and Spider? Where will you be going?”
“I don’t know, we’re going to do some tracking” Lo’ak says nonchalantly. Y/n frowns, something in her stomach didn’t sit right at his plan.
“Lo’ak, I’m dying of boredom just by sitting here all day. Can I come with?”
Lo’ak smirks, his eyes lighting up at her rebellious words.
“Now, that’s what I’m talking about!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Netayams scowl didn’t leave his lips as he rode beside his parents. Though he got all the duties Y/n had prior to her injury that left her bed bound, none of it made him any happier.
He didn’t get anything out of accomplishment , only due to the fact she wasn't here to do them herself. And she was in her current state due to him, it sent a bitter taste along his tongue the more he thought of it.
The com around his neck buzzes to life as Lo’ak whispers on the other side. Neteyam internally frowns as he listens into what Lo’ak informs, his father answering back gruffly. He knew that Lo’ak would disobey rules and venture out to the old shack. So typical of him to get bored just to do the very thing they were warned about.
“Who’s we?”
Neteyam listens carefully, his eyes scrunching with worry for his family.
“Me, Spider, Kiri, Tuk…and Y/n”
Neteyam felt his heart drop, his mind drawing blanks. There were avatar soldiers near them and Lo’ak had their baby sister tag along with them. That alone got his blood to run cold, what caused his heart to beat painfully was the thought that Y/n, who was still very much injured, was also with them.
The girl Neteyam hated seeing hurt.

Web of Destiny
Status: Part One
Paring: Miguel O’hara x SpiderReader (Y/n)
Genre/Warnings: Fluff, Angst, Enemies-to-Lovers Troupe, RudeMiguel, BubblyReader, Swearing, Hidden Sexual Tension, femReader, Pinning, Flirting.
Summary: Hobie and Gwen successfully apprehend a Mysterio anomaly from Earth-618 with the help of that universes Spider-person. Amazed by her skills they decided to bring her back to Nueva York. Much to Miguel’s dismay.
Word Count: 2.1k
A/N: My first Miguel x Reader fic! I’m super nervous but I hope you guys like it! Also, Reader is a Silk variant. Instead of Cindy Moon getting bit after Peter, it was Y/n. (Additional info at the end)
—————————————————————-
Tumblr media
My name is Y/n L/n. I was bitten by a radioactive spider. And for the last three years, I've been the one and only Silk.
I’m pretty sure you guys know the rest. I saved the city bunch of times, made great friends along the way. Saved the city from collapsing into itself, found out I wasn’t the only Spider-person in my universe. Saved the city again. Saved my uncle. I couldn't save my best friend, Cindy Moon, so now I save everyone else.
Despite all that, I love being Silk. Because no matter how hard I fall, I always get back up. I’m just your friendly neighborhood Silk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Lyla, what is it this time?” Miguel groans, swiping a screen to the side with a flick of his hand. His watch lights with a familiar ring just as his trusty assistant pops out of thin air, pacing around nervously.
Lyla chuckles apprehensively, her lips forming into a nervous smile, “Uh-well. We have a tiny situation”, She brings her indent and thumb close together to show how minuscule the problem was at hand.
Miguel’s eyes crease together in disappointment, a groan slipping past his lips. He begins to lower the podium towards the ground while cursing incoherently under his breath.
“How tiny?”
“You’ll barely notice it!” She tries to assure, her smile twitching under his unimpressed glare.
Letting out a defeated sigh he turns the transmission off, turning to face the entrance. His head tilts to the side, hearing hurried footsteps walking towards his room, just as he steps down to the leveled floor. His hand rests against his hips, waiting for the doors to slam open.
As if one cue the door opens wide, Hobie walks in with a bounce to his steps. He flashes Miguel a lopsided smile as Gwen follows behind him, followed by an unknown Spider. Miguel clenches his jaw feeling his body tingle at the sensation of the girl. She was a spider alright, but why was she here? Miguel raises an eyebrow as his eyes trace over the new female.
Her tightly secured spandex suit did not bear the traditional spider-person colors. It was black and white which was unique but not something new. Her hair was out freely, falling past her shoulders as it swayed along her steps. And surprisingly she didn’t have a full covering mask, but a mask that just covered her jaw all the way up to her nose.
Miguel clears his throat roughly, seeing how the female caught onto his deep and calculating stare. Her e/c eyes flutter as she too examines him, her eyes trailing from the top of his brown wavy locks all the way down to his torso. Luckily, his mask was off. But that only proved to be a problem as he couldn't help but feel self conscious under the piercing stare.
“We’re back! It went by smoothly!” Gwen reports, stopping right in front of Miguel. Hobie places his arms across his back nodding sluggishly.
Miguel huffs out at her words, turning to Hobie who was in charge of the simple mission. His glare alone caused Gwen to shuffle around awkwardly, his unsaid words of disappointment speaking volumes.
“Hobie, who is this?” Miguel grumbles, his eyes darting to the girl, eyes filled with scrutiny. Upon hearing herself being mentioned the girl takes a step forward, and beside Hobie who shrugs off Miguel’s angered expression.
“Hello, you're Spider-man 2099? Gotta say I expected someone ... .a little friendlier lookin-” the girl blurts out, his eyes widening at how straight forward her words were. Gwen couldn't help but clear her throat to prevent herself from giggling.
“-Not saying you're ugly or anything, totally daddy material, but you're missing something, Ya know? Something that gives off the ‘friendly-neighborhood-Spider-man vibes?” She quickly adds, causing Hobie to snicker beside her. The girl blushes slightly, redness spreading from the tops of her cheeks. Miguel turns to face her, his arms leaving his hips to cross over his broad chest. He stares down into her smaller statue with annoyance.
“Who are you?” He repeats again, his eyes scrunched together into a tight line. The female chuckles, looking in between him and the two other spiders who brought her here.
“You look stressed, is he stressed?”
“He’s stressed all the time” Hobie adds, smirking when Miguel growls warningly under his breath.
“Jesus, you’re gonna get wrinkles ya know,”
“You’re very chatty, probably means your canon hasn't happened yet. How long did you say you were Spider-woman for?” Miguel offers an unamused smile, holding nothing but annoyance in his tone.
“Silk, I go by Silk in my universe,” she replies, mimicking his form by crossing her arms over her chest. Miguel raises an eyebrow, his expression changing to mild confusion. He knew Silk, he had a few Silk’s at headquarters. But this one, the one standing in front of him and peering up into his eyes through her thick lashes, was not the ones he was familiar with.
She was different, because she made him feel….different.
“Silk? But you’re not Cindy Moon.”
The playful smile on the girl's face vanished at his worlds, her arms dropping to her side as her eyes widened, “How did you?….she….”
Miguel sighs out, moistening his lips ever so slightly as he felt uncomfortable watching her look upset in front of him. A feeling he didn’t quite understand,
“Ahh…I see. She’s your canon?”
The girl's eyes furrow at his words, puffing out her cheeks out in annoyance, “What’s that supposed to mean? What’s anything supposed to mean! All I know is I was taking names and kicking ass when these-“ the female glances at the two spider people beside her.
“Spider fella’s show up! They’re the ones who brought me here!”  She states, throwing her hand in the air in frustration. Miguel clenched his jaw, his eyes landing on the slight pout he was able to make out from under her mask. Her large eyes staring into his eyes.
‘She’s…like a puppy’
A subtle smile twitches along Miguel’s lips, his jaw immediately clenched to prevent the smile from breaking though. Deciding he had heard enough he turns to Hobie.
“Hobie, what’s the meaning of this? I specifically tasked you with bringing back an anomaly, not the Spider-person from that universe,”
“Technically there is another Spider-person in my universe-“
“Zip it, grown men are talking!” Miguel hisses, his eyes snapping to her momentarily, giving her a warning look.
“Gosh, I see what you mean. He’s a grump”
“Miguel, chill. She helped us with the anomaly, I think she’d be a great asset to the team. A great help, honestly. She is quite good” Hobie explains, raising his head in mock surrender at Miguel’s unrelenting gaze.
“That I am” the girl adds proudly, fist pumping Gwen playfully.
Miguel tuts at his words, running a hand through his locks. She had a mouth on her that’s for sure, and Miguel didn’t seem to have the energy to deal with that. Not when the entire building was filled with smart-talking Spider-people,
“I’m not too sure, I don’t know if I want another talkative Spider-person.”
“Aw C’mon! She’s great! Right Gwen?” Hobie argues, glancing at Gwen for assistance, who jolts at being mentioned.
“I-Yes! Her webs come out of her fingertips!” She replies in awe, making the girl chuckle, she turns to Miguel who’s hard expression didn’t change.
“Stop, you make me blush Gwen, and anyway, if he doesn’t want me I’m totally cool dudes. I know where I’m not wanted” She says softly. SHe gently pets Gwen’s shoulder reassuringly, touring to offer Hobie a smile before she takes a tentative step backwards. Just as she continues her way out Hobie sends a glare to his boss.
“You sure you want her to leave? She could be an asset.” Hobie adds quietly, his eyes holding determination. Miguel sighs out, rolling his eyes for being so soft.
“Wait.”
The girl's step came to a halt, throwing her head over her shoulder to glance back at Miguel with some surprise. She didn't think he would be the one to stop her seeing how unwelcoming he was. Now fully turning around to face the three, she places her arms along her hips, eyes squinting in question.
 “Hm? What up big ol’ grump?”
Miguel bits his lips, almost drawing blood when his fangs accidentally gaze past his lower lip. He began to regret calling her back.
“First odd, stop with the nicknames. It’s childish. And second, I’ll allow it but as long as you're under surveillance for the first couple of months,”
“Seriously?” her eyes widened, not believing that she was being given a chance. Gwen fist-pumps the air at Miguels words in happiness.
Seeing how Miguel waited patiently for her response, the girl clears her throat. Her hand reached up to the top trace over her mask. “Sure, sounds good to me. I don’t mind!”. As she pulls her mask down, Miguel’s breaths come to a halt.
If he thought her figure, her hair, her eyes were beautiful. It was nothing compared to her face. Her plump lips form into an amused smile, her eyes crinkling as Miguel openly gawks at her full appearance.
The buzzing in the back of his mind that had been bothering him the moment she stepped into the confines of the room coming back at full force. Miuguel couldn't help but clench his fists, casting his eyes away from her. He didn't know what he was feeling, but his heart was racing erratically against his chest. And he was certain it could be heard. Miguel roughly clears his throat awkwardly to gain composure.
“So, who's assigned to me?” the girl asks nonchalantly, walking back to the trio, absentmindedly twirling her mask.
Ather question Hobie stand up straighter, smiling wide, “I can-”
“I will.”
Miguel blurts out, his words causing Hibie to shoot him an amused glace, his smirk playing along his lips. Moiguel catches how the girl slightly cringes at his words, probably afraid of being with someone as intimidating as him.
Feeling all eyes on him, he clears his throat, walking over to stand directly in front of her. Now that he was this close he was surprised how tiny she was compared to his buff and enormous stature.
“I will watch over you for a few months, if you are not performing well enough I’m sending you back to your universe. Got it?” he says sternly, ignoring the fluttering deep within his gut. Maybe it was telling him how hellish the next few months would be with such a bubbly character.
The girl lets out a silvery laugh at his rough time, raising her hand in mock surrender. Her chest vibrates with amusement which makes Miguel gulp nervously at the sight.
“Yes sir! Sounds good, when is the next mission chief?”
“Don’t. Just call me Miguel”
“Alright, Miguel, I’m Y/n L/n.”
~~~~~~~~
“Wow, this is sick!” Y/n murmurs, twirling her wrist adorned with the newly made device. She was so bust inspecting every crevice of the devolve that she missed how Miguel rolled his eyes. Half in annoyance and half in amusement.
“So this is what allows you to jump universes? That is so cool, this is giving ‘Back to The Future’ vibes” She chuckles as Miguel activates his suit, his mask covering his face from view.
“Be careful with that, it's a very important technology. Don’t go playing a round with it-” Miguel warns, pointing to his own device. The smirk doesn't leave Y/n’s face as she adjusts her mask in place.
“- And I’ll know, it also records every universe you enter. So if you so much as play around with it. I will know.” He snarls under his breath, walking past her.
“Jeez, do you ever lighten up?”
“Not when I’m burdened with so much, so come along”  Miguel urges, opening a portal a few feet away from them. Y/n works her fingers to detangle her hair watching Miguel step closer into the portal not giving her time to catch up.

“W-wait! Why are you rushing me? Wait up!”
“C’mon niña, we don't have all day. '' Miguel growls slowly.

“Hey! I’m not a kid!” Y/n argues, stepping right beside him. Migual fails to keep his lips from twitching into a smirk at the fact he understood her. Lucky for him she couldn't see the way his eyes soften with warmth due to his mask. But it only lasted a moment. As he stays quiet for a bit to which she huffs in annoyance,
“I took Spanish once as an elective. So don't call me kid! It insulting”
“Fine, I won't call you that.  Now try to catch up….princesa”

Tumblr media
Spider glances at the rustling forest around him, his smile dissipating at the sound of rapid footsteps that only continue to get closer to where he had crouched down. He nervously glances at Kiri noticing how she was immersed in the flower she had brought him to show, not realizing the disturbance lingering near.
“Are you expecting anyone?” Spider whispers, standing up to his full height. He slides his bow over his shoulder whilst gripping it tightly. Kiri, who was crouching down in the midst of inspecting the beautiful flower closely , stands up at his tone, her eyes filled with worry.
“No, only Neteyam and Lo’ak know where we are” she murmurs, her ears standing straight as she stares at the source of the rustling. Reaching for her knife around her holster she takes a tentative step forward, Spider moves to stand in front of her, holding his breath in anticipation.
All of a sudden Neteyam hurriedly bursts through the bushes coming to a halt in front of the tensed duo, his face flushed with color as he desperately tries to catch his breath. Spider and Kiri let out sighs of relief lowering their weapons of choice.
“Neteyam you Skxawng! We could have killed you!” Kiri groans in annoyance, her eyes rolling at how her brother acted so stupidly which could have resulted in an injury. He was usually so careful with his footing, barely making a sound.
Neteyam lets out a breathless chuckle, his eyes dancing between Spider and Kiri. He was slightly hunched over, as if cradling something in his arms.
“S-sorry, I was quite-”
“Y/N!!!!”
Spider immediately recognized the messy locks of hair that laid against Neteyam’s arm.
Neteyam had cradled the girl close to his chest, protectively nestled within his large arms. Upon hearing her name, the girl looks up, the flush red color of her cheeks giving away how embarrassed she felt to be in the large Na’vi’s boys arms.
“S-Spider!” She rushes out, her eyes filled with relief when she sees the boy she had been scurrying the whole forest floor for. Kiri glances between the two, her posture completely relaxing knowing it wasn't a stranger.
Neteyam crouches down, his knee resting on the ground below as he helps the girl stand. Her legs wobble as she grabs onto his bicep for balance quickly whispering an apology. Neteyam offers a soft smile, holding out his hand for further support if needed.
“Y/n?” Kiri asks, peering down at the smaller female. Spider had always spoken of a girl living with him at base camp, but due to the fact she never actually ‘saw’ the girl over her many visits to the lab, Kiri chalked it up to Spider having a creative imagination.
“Y/n! What the hell?” Spider rushes up to her, taking her tiny hands into his as he assesses her for any injuries. His hand reaches up to brush over her shoulders and down her arm with worry, forgetting the fact that was still Neteyam crouched right behind her with his mouth forming into a thin line.
“What the hell are you doing here?! Where is your mask! H-how?!?” Spider cups her cheeks, squishing them to make sure the figure in front of him was indeed his dear friend and not just a figment of his imagination.
Y/n scrunched her eyebrows, feeling embarrassed that Spider was flocking over her like a mother bird in front of two gorgeous Na’vi’s. She couldn’t help but feel self conscious as is. Y/n reaches up, removing his hands while staring at Spider with slight anger.
“What do you mean! I came here because you took the defected-” she places her hands over his mask, tilting it upwards to read the number it would be branded with. Unfortunately for her the number labeled wasn't the one she had been fearing.
“-exo pack...what the hell?” Y/n knocks against the faceplate in anger. Thankfully it wasn't the defected pack, but that just meant she had a heart attack over nothing. She nearly killed herself, over nothing! And that didn’t bode well with the smaller female.
Placing her hands along her hips she glares into the boy who chuckles nervously. He shrugs his shoulders while taking a step back from the fuming h/c girl.
“You really think I'd leave with a defective pack?” He questions, slightly offended that Y/n would think he would be dumb enough to do so. Y/n huffs in annoyance, pinching the bridge of her nose while trying to calm herself down. She inhaled deeply before turning her attention back to Spider, forgetting the Na’vi who watched her with curious eyes.
“Then what did you do to it?!”
“I threw it, obviously?”
“Ugh Spider! You’re supposed to log that type of stuff. I didn't see it in the recycling unit! Hence why I came all the way out here! Scared shitless that you might be dead!”
Kiri snickers from her spot beside Spider, clamping her mouth shut when Spider glances her way with an unimpressed glare. He turns back to Y/n while smiling nervously.
“I didn’t recycle it…..more so chucked it into the forest?”
“Spider!”
“Seriously?”
Y/n throws her hands up in anger, anger over the fact she even worried over an idiot to the point she left the confines of the base. And anger over the fact Spider clearly violated their code of not harming the environment whatsoever.
“You can’t throw it out in the forest you dummy, when we go back we have to recycle it ok? Don’t go around harming the environment around you. Alright?” Y/n lectures, her eyes knowing as she nudges against him. Spider nods in defeat at her words.
“She’s right, our eco system is not used to your technology. No matter how minor, it has consequences” Kiri pipes up, taking a step closer to Y/n. She kneels down to her level offering a friendly smile, one that Y/n returns with a slight flush on her cheeks. Neteyam watches curiously, slightly proud over the fact that a human like Y/n, cared about his world. And with such sincerity. It amazed him.
“I don’t believe we met, I’m Kiri. You must be Y/n?” Kiri introduces herself, causing Y/n’s eyes to widen.
“Kiri? Oh………..ohhh!!!” Y/n smiles wide, glancing at Spider who cowers at her knowing look.
“I’m sorry, it’s just I’ve heard so much about you!” Y/n explains taking a shaky step forward. Slightly limping. Neteyam automatically reaches his hand out to steady her, his heart racing at the thought of her falling again. She steadies herself before clasping her tiny hands with Kiri who smiles wide at her words.
“And I you,”
“Good things I hope?” Y/n throws a warning glance towards Spider who shrugs it off playfully.
“We’ll, up until now I didn’t know that you actually existed” Kiri announces, Neteyam quirks a confused eyebrow. He had never heard Spider mention Y/n before. It could have been due to the fact he was barely around to visit the lab. Not that he wanted to. He cared for Spider, but he couldn’t hold back the inner urge to dislike humans and their inventions. That’s why he never made it his mission to check out the lab or their equipment on his own accord. Which is why it pegged him, why was he so easily accepting of Y/n?
“You mean you thought I was crazy?” Spider interjects, sounding offended as he tries to get in between Kiri and Y/n’s bonding.
Y/n huffs out, waving her hand dismissively. “That’s besides the point” she says softly causing him to pout.
“That doesn’t matter, what matters is how are you not dead?!” Spider asks, looking to Neteyam for an explanation. The older Na’vi had been uncharacteristically quiet, so when everyone turned to him for an explanation he felt his cheeks flush with color.
“W-well, after I found her on our way over here she fell, sprained her ankle and broke her mask-”
“Oh my-”
“But she was able to breathe fine…I believe there is some significance to that. Earlier I saw a Atokirina approach her and accept her….it was as if Ewya ha-”
“-had chosen her” Kiri finishes his sentence cutting him off. Neteyam nods, his face turning towards Y/n who smiles shyly. He feels an elective shock surge through him at the sight, though he doesn't know why.
“I'm not so sure about that, there has to be a scientific reason for it. I must let Norm and Max know” Y/n says quickly, her eyes turning away from Neteyam’s focused stare. Ever since the fall Neteyam had insisted that he carry her the rest of the way. Though Y/n opposed the idea, the 8ft Na’vi wasn't going to take no for an answer. They did indeed make it rather quickly to Kiri and Spider, but at the cost of Y/n’s dignity,
“Speaking of which it’s really late, I’ll take Y/n back-” Spider steps towards Y/n, nodding as she tries not to put any weight on the ankle she had strained, frowning at the injury.
“-think you can walk?” He asks softly, reaching out for her.
“I think I can…wo- '' Y/n loses balance for a moment ready to fall face first into the ground below. But luckily a strong arm catches her mid fall, holding her tightly as if afraid to let her slip through his fingers. Y/n flushes crimson, staring down at the large blue arm wrapped around her waist yet again.
“T-thanks Neteyam” she stammers, feeling quite embarrassed. Turning her head slightly to show her appreciation as she smiles softly. Neteyam shakes his head, his eyes were so focused on her face, her eyes, her beautiful lips that he almost had lost himself in his thoughts once again. He clears his throat gently placing her down and turns to face Spider.
“I can assist you guys back. It’ll be safer that way” he suggests, secretly hoping Spider would agree. He wanted to insure their safety, most importantly Y/n’s safety.
“It’s alright Neteyam I got it. Thanks for watching out for her, she can be quite a handful” Spider chuckles, picking Y/n up with ease in his arms. Y/n yelps at the sudden change from standing on her two feet to floating midair, her face once again flushing red.
“Hey!”
Spider ignores her pleas to put her down, taking a step past the Na’vi with her still in his arms, he glances back momentarily, offering a smile to Kiri who returns it right away.
“I’ll see you guys tomorrow?”
“See you tomorrow monkey boy, get back safely” Spider turns around barley ducking for a tree branch that hangs low, grazing past the top of Y/n hair.
“Watch it!! She’s delicate!” Neteyam takes a cautious step forward before freezing. Kiri snorts out before covering her mouth at her brother's sudden words.
As his words register in his head Neteyam flushes purple, he quickly stands up straight clearing his throat he sputters out words while avoiding eye contact with a surprised Spider, and a wide eyed Y/n.
“I-I mean, be careful!”
“Neteyam, I got this.” Spider nods knowingly, he was promising to keep Y/n safe. And Neteyam seemed to have calmed down in that regard, his stare turned to Y/n who peered at him with a soft smile across her lips. He feels his heart tug in slight pain not knowing if he’d see her again.
“Will I-we be seeing you tomorrow?”
“I don’t know ...I hope so” Y/n whispers truthfully, her lips forming into a full smile knowing that Neteyam wanted to see her again. Out of his own free will. She couldn't help but feel giddy at the thought. The boy who saved her life reluctantly, now seems to genuinely care and want her near him.
Just as the duo disappear into the forest Kiri turns to her brother, smirking wide.
“Wow”
“What?”
“Nothing….just enjoying the view”
~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/n and Spider sit on the medical chair in the middle of the lab as Norm and Max flock over them, their eyes holding disappointment as Max ran several tests on Y/n to make sure she was ok.
“What were you thinking! You could have died!!” Norm grumbles, throwing his hands in the air in frustration, Max nods at his friend's words, examining a sample of Y/n’s blood through a microscope. He notes that there were no abnormalities in the sample, she didn't seem to have any negative effects from being outside without an oxygen tank.
“But I didn't….I'm still here” Y/n rolls her eyes at his worry. She was fine other than the minor sprain which they tended to right away when they arrived.
“That’s not the point Y/n, what you did was dangerous….”
“We’ll if I didn’t then Spider would have died-“
“But I was fine-“
“Not helping!”
Y/n glares at Spider which causes him to keep his mouth shut. Taking a deep breath she faces Norm and Max who were staring at the tablet in hand, going over the sample results.
“The point is, I’m fine. Neteyam helped me and assisted me. If I didn’t go after Spider I wouldn’t have found out I can breathe the air out there. We can finally crack the code on our genetic makeup for humans to breathe Pandora’s air!”
At her words Norm and Max share a knowing look, where Norm nods giving Max the ok to speak, “Y/n…we knew you could breathe the air out there” Max says softly, he took a step closer to her to carefully place a bandaid over where he took a blood sample.
“WHAT?”
Y/n feels her heart drop at his words.
“W-what?”
They had known, they had known the entire time and hadn't thought of taking her out, choosing to keep her in this prison on purpose? They held such an important thing from her, for what? Y/n’s eyes sting with tears, the truth holding far too much weight.
Y/n hops down from the chair, Spider following her ready to hold her back while he carefully watches her tensed back. The way her hands clenched into fists and her angry tears that began flowing freely down her cheeks, he couldn’t help but sympathize and feel her rage.
“T-then why have you ... .you've kept me locked up in this-this prison knowing I’m suitable for the world out there?”
“Y/n, calm down-“
“NO!! I will not calm down! All my life I’ve been…stuck here!! All my life! I never got the chance to go out because you made me believe it wasn't suitable for me! And now I find out you lied? How can I ever trust you?” Spider holds Y/n back, her tears cascading down her cheeks at a rapid pace as she didn’t bother wiping them away. She felt betrayal weigh her down, her world crashing around her.
“Why…w-why did you do it” her voice cracked with pain and she leaned against Spider’s hold, unable to muster the energy to keep standing.
“Because we were scared..”
“Scared?” Spider's tone held more malice than he had intended, but he couldn’t help it when his close friend sobbed in his arms.
“Your mother-Dr L/n was a brilliant doctor. She assisted the Na’vi through tough times barley caring for her own deteriorating health….while she was heavily pregnant with you, due in a few weeks time-she went out to grab some herbs to for testing as well as ointment” Max begins silently, pushing his glasses up against the bridge of his nose,
“She insisted that no one tag along with her because she didn’t want us to affect the geological atmosphere. Considering how she is human, she didn’t want to create a fuss as is,”
“While she was deep into the woods, she went into labor. Neytiri had been nearby and tried helping her before she began active labor. They…They were close. The delivery was difficult as Neytiri couldn’t do too much..” Norm adds, taking a seat on his chair, hanging his head low in sadness.
Y/n seems to calm down, resting against Spider while listening carefully. The tears continued to cascade as she was finally able to hear what really happened to her mother years ago.
“By the time we were informed and arrived to the scene, your mother….had passed”
“You…you died Y/n. The moment you came out, you stopped breathing. You didn’t stand a chance against the harsh environment of Pandora. The very air suffocated you upon your first breath.” Max chokes up, taking off his glasses quickly to wipe away the tears as he recalled the events of that day.
“I held you, checked you for your vitals which…there were none. We thought we lost both you and your mother that day…and then, you cried”
“As scientists we are taught not to believe in miracles, but there you were. The first breath you ever took, and it was Pandora’s air. You were able to breathe the air like it was normal, it was as if you were reborn. As if Ewya gave you another chance”
Y/n wipes her tears, her expression hard as she was able to pull herself away from Spider to stand on her own, “Then…then why keep me here?”
“We were scared that Ewya spared you to survive for…that movement. We were too scared to take you out there in fear that you actually couldn't breathe it now that you're much older. We didn’t want to take any chances, we couldn’t risk losing you too ... .So over the years we conducted tests to see if anything would change, your genetic code stayed the same and we couldn’t figure out why or how you were able to breathe the air as an infant. We are not even close to cracking the code for humans to able to breathe the air, and seeing how you are able to now... .it’s clear only you can do this…” Norm states, standing up only to frown when he notices Y/n take a step back.
“Y/n we’re sorry for what we’ve done. Everything we ever did was for your own good, you are like a daughter to us " Max reaches out, placing a comforting hand on Y/n shoulder as she sighs out, wiping the remaining tears she pulls herself away, quietly retracting to her quarters without uttering a word.
It didn’t take Y/n long to forgive Norm and Max for what they’ve done. She knew they had the best intentions in mind but that didn’t help the feeling of betrayal from consuming her. Over the past few days she stayed locked in her room, requesting her meals to be delivered to her due to her sore ankle.
Even though her heart ached to be out once again, to explore the beauty she dreamed of while also interacting with Na’vi, especially Neteyam. She couldn’t bring herself to do so. She was so worked up over the fact that years had been stolen from her, she couldnt find it in herself to take the few steps to freedom. Days went by as Y/n actively declined Spider’s request to take her out.
As days progressed and at a slow pace, Y/n’s mood lifted a bit as her ankle healed. Her ankle seemed to be much better now, she was able to stand and walk without much aid but she still didn't feel the drive to move, the drive to leave.
“Y/n?” Spider peeks into her room, his exo pack slung over his arm. He looked ready to go out again.
“Yes?” Y/n sighs, not moving from her spot hunched over her desk. She had paused on the log she was currently watching, of her mother examining various plants and herbs she was fascinated with.
“There is someone who wants to speak with you”
“Spider, I’ll speak to Norm and Max when I feel like it, We both apologized. What more is there to say,” Y/n says with slight annoyance, turning away from him. Spider lets out a throaty chuckle, his eyes mysteriously twinkling with mischief.
“It’s not Norm, or Max,” he says before quickly disappearing from the room. Feeling a budding question Y/n gets up with a grunt, stretching her sore limbs before leaving the comfort of her room.
Her steps were slow as she quietly padded down the cold hall leading towards the lab, finding it weird how no one was nearby. It wasn't even that late into the day. Where has everyone gone? Y/n nears the lab, placing her thumb into the biometrics as the doors slide open with a swoosh.
“Ok Spider, wha-“
Y/n’s words die along her tongue as her eyes widen. Her jaw goes slack while she tries to figure out that what she saw in front of her was indeed real and not her imagination.
“Oh shit bro, you were right! She’s a cutie!”
There in the confines of the laboratory crouched down just to fit in were three Navi’s, two of which held bright smiles when their eyes snapped towards her direction, another stared at her in pure astonishment. His tail swished around him in pure excitement as he examined the girl his brother wouldn’t shut up about for the past few days.
“H-Hi!” Y/n squeaks when her eyes immediately land on the handsome Na’vi who blushed furiously at his brother's statement. She steps into the lab, her smile growing wide as Spider chuckles loudly. Kiri smacks him and the unidentified male Na’vi to shut them up before walking closer to said girl.
“Y/n, how are you?” She asks softly, crouching fully to the girl's height. She smiles sheepishly, forcing herself to train her gaze away from the handsome Na’vi who had been taking up her thoughts.
“It’s alright, I’ve…I’ve learned alot about my past and it’s hard to digest is all”
“Is that why you haven’t been around? Neteyam has been asking of you every time Spider drops by-“
“No!-“
All eyes turn to Neteyam who tries to scramble to his feet in embarrassment, knocking a bunch of papers and equipment along the way. Y/n bites her lip from laughing at the scene as he desperately tried to compose himself, while trying to put the things back to where they were in a hurry,
“-I-I mean I’ve been concerned. That’s all!” Neteyam assures quickly , making Y/n nod, a smile tugging along her lips. He looked adorable when flushed as he glared daggers into the two males who snicker on his behalf.
Y/n turns her attention back to a worried Kiri who waits for her response, “T-thank you. I’m fine....” she whispers softly, biting her lips as the last few days replayed inside her head. The group seemed to fall into a moment of silence, registering how upset and conflicted the girl looked.
“Y/n? Spider told us. And I know this is a lot to take in, but know you were chosen by Ewya. Everything has a purpose. There is a reason why you’ve found out about your uniqueness now. Trust me, it’ll make sense soon” Kiri assured, sending an encouraging smile. Neteyam nears his sister, offering a soft smile in return.
“Thank you Kiri” Y/n murmurs, her eyes softening at her words. Maybe everything that has happened had a purpose?
The unknown Na’vi sighs out as everyone shares a smile along their lips. The male stretches his legs before brushing past Neteyam and Kiri only to stop right in front of Y/n who stares at him quizzically.
“Now, on a better note-“
The Na’vi crouches down to her level, his eyes playful and full of wonder as he examines her from head to toe. Y/n felt her face flush red at the close examination, she even caught the way how he leaned in to take a whiff of her scent which didn't help her nervously beating heart.
“I’m Lo’ak! You know. The cool one? Spider must have spoke of me often”
The male introduces himself, raising his clenched hand up for a fist bump which Y/n immediately returns her smile stretching wider into a grin.
“Lo’ak! Oh yes, nice to meet you. I’m Y/n. Spider speaks quite fondly of you.” Her words causes Lo’ak’s smile to grow wider as he throws Spider an appreciative nod. He quickly turns back to her, his eyes glinting with mischief.
“That’s what’s in talk’n about!! I’m glad I’ve made such a good impression-” the sly wink he sent to Y/n causes Neteyam to groan in annoyance.
“-Now, how about we all get outta here?”
~~~~~~~~~
Y/n stares at the beautiful flower in front of her while crouching down beside Neteyam. Her eyes drank in the way the sun caused the petals of the flower to glimmer beautifully, sending a feeling of wonder and awe through her. In all her life Y/n had never seen something this beautiful, well, other than Neteyam who was something else to be reckoned with.
Neteyam shares quick glances between the quiet girl and the flower, watching how her eyes lit up as she leans a bit closer towards the blossoms. Neteyam smirks in amusement at how her mouth formed a ‘o’ in amazement.
“What is this flower called?” Y/n whispers, turning her head slightly to face Neteyam while still keeping the beautiful flower in view. Neteyam chuckles at her words, his chest vibrating with laughter.
“That’s a Tsawksyul” he replies.
Y/n smiles at how easily he said the word, how smoothly it glazed against his tongue. Neteyam watches Y/n pause for a bit, as if he would see the gears shifting in her brain as she deciphers the meaning of the word in her head.
“A Sun-Lilly? Tsaw-ky-syul?” Y/n tries to mimic the way Neteyam pronounced it only to fail terribly. She winced at how rough the beautiful word sounded against her tongue. Neteyam’s eyes glimmer with affection seeing how she tried her best to learn, her curiosity knowing no bounds.
Scooting closer to the much smaller girl he points to the flower in between them, “Its ‘t͡sawk.sjul’,” he repeats, much slower then before which allows her time to mimic him, her words come out choppy but better than before making Neteyam smile wider.
“It’s beautiful, why is it called that?” Y/n asks, leaning her head against her crossed arms resting in her knee. A smile twitches against his lips at the gesture, he knew how much smaller she was compared to him, but now sitting this close, their bodies nearly touching, Neteyam feel a urge to protect her, his tiny human.
“It’s a sun loving flower, it blooms fully during the day” Neteyam murmurs, his longer fingers reaching down to pick a flower that had fallen from the bush. The stem is still intact which he holds delicately, twirling the flower. The sun hitting the petals just right as Y/n watches completely mesmerized.
“Wow”
Neteyam chuckles in amusement at how her fingers twitched, as if she wanted to reach out to touch it like he had but stopped herself from doing so.
“It reminds me of you” Neteyam mumbles softly, taking the flower and tucking it behind her ear. Y/n freezes at the action, shutting her eyes out of reflex as Neteyam secures the blossom in place. His breath hitched as she slowly opens her eyes.
Two worlds, a beautiful flower of his world and a Tawtute. Two things that shouldn’t mix, but looked perfect in his eyes. Like they were meant to be.
“H-how so?” Y/n asks, reaching up for her fingers to trace over the delicate petals. It felt so soft to the touch and Y/n knew right then and there she would cherish that flower for all of eternity.
“It reminds me of your smile…how your smile lights up your entire face. Similar to a Tsawksyul” Neteyam admits bashfully. His bioluminescent freckles flicker under her watchful eyes in slight shyness.
“T-thank you!” Y/n squeals, averting her eyes to the other Na’vi not too far away from them playing around with Spider. Her heart beating wildly against her ribcage
“D-don’t mention it,” Neteyam whispers, his attention averting again to the flowers in front of him. Flowers that once looked so beautiful to him, now paled in comparison to who sat before him.
~~~~~~
“This is Eam’pin, I named her after my mothers previous ikran Seze” (Green) Neteyam pets the beautiful creature, decorated green markings that made her look unique. Y/n, who maintains some distance watches in wonderment.
Over the past few weeks she had grown closer to the Sully’s, meeting her favourite current Na’vi Tuk along the way. It was odd at first that even though Y/n was older than Tuk by a lot, Tuk still towers over her tiny human body.
Today Tuk urged Neteyam to finally take Y/n to see the Ikran, up close and personal since the girl had expressed her interest over the magnificent beasts.
Neteyam had been reluctant at first due to the slight fear of Y/n getting hurt based on her fragile body. She was human, and though she has grown accustomed to the world around her. He still felt worry rise within him.
Y/n and Neteyam have grown close over the past few weeks, whenever he had time off from his training he would look for her in a heartbeat. He always accompanied her out into the forest where she would inspect the fauna around her.
He loved watching her appreciate his world, all with the purest intentions. Neteyam grew to understand that maybe not all humans were bad after walking and his initial distaste started to wear off the more he spent time with her.
Now that Tuk started tagging along often, Y/n had grown more comfortable. Interacting with the creatures as her interests grew. Which led to this moment, right before Neteyam could go on patrol Tuk had dragged Y/n to visit his ikran.
Knowing very well that Neteyam’s ikran was much kinder than others when in his presence. Spider and Lo’ak also tagged along, waiting for Neteyam to depart so they can drag Y/n off with them to their pre-planned adventure.
“She is, but don’t look in her eyes. She is very calm but fierce as well” Tuk reminds her.
Y/n nods, casting her stare downcast as Neteyam easily mounts his Ikran. Once he makes Tsaheylu, the ikran screeches. It’s head turning towards Y/n, the girl that took up all of Neteyam’s thoughts. The ikran eyes softened a bit, noting the fondness Neteyam felt towards her.
Tumblr media
Seeing how Neteyam readied himself to take off Y/n steps closer towards them, a sad smile along her lips knowing she wouldn’t be able to spend time with him today.
“Be careful?”
Neteyam lets out a throaty chuckle, his eyes crinkling with happiness. “Oh my Tsawksyul, I’m always careful”
“See you soon?”
“I’ll be back before you know it” Neteyam promises before looking at Lo’ak who smirks.
Neteyam nods towards him, his eyes speaking volumes. Reminding him to stay safe, to keep Y/n and Tuk safe. Lo’ak waves his hand off dismissively which causes the older Na’vi to sigh out. He lets out a call before his Ikran takes to the sky, Y/n covers her eyes from the leaves the rustle wildly at the sudden movement.
Lo’ak and Spider walk closer to the girls, both wearing shit eating grins, “So…..Tsawksyul??”
Y/n immediately flushes pink, swatting her hand out to hit the taller Na’vi, barley causing him to flinch, “Oh stop it Lo’ak!”
“No, it’s cute! Sickenly cute. I’d say you and my brother are getting quite acquainted” Lo’ak teases making Spider snort beside him,
“We’re friends! That’s all”
“Her diary says otherwise,” Spider quickly adds, which causes Y/n blood to run cold.
“You read my diary?!? Spider I’m going to kill you!” Y/n roars, lunging after the retreating male. Tuk giggles before following after the duo.
Lo’ak howls with laughter, running after the group trying to insure Y/n didn’t get to Spider first.
“Wait, don’t kill him yet! Bro! Tell me what it says!”
