If there was one thing he noticed about Townies, is that everyone seemed to cheer on the other side. It wasn’t surprising, but it was interesting to be in a town full of rebels. “You’re not the first one to say that to me,” He grinned, “I’m thinking I’d be better liked if I started dealing or something.”

“I was’t suggesting you weren’t a bad guy, I’ve met more cops that fall into the bad guy category than ones that don’t. I just meant that in the cops versus ‘bad guy’ scenario, I usually cheer on the wrong side of the law. Unless they’ve done something truly terrible, obviously. I’m not a monster” As Lily spoke she quickly realized she was doing that thing she often did where she just made things up on the spot for reasons unbeknownst to her.

David imagined how great his life would be if he could just wear pyjamas on the job, and grinned. Alexa didn’t know the half of it when it came to planning his words. Call it another one of his many insecurities. “As soon as I get to a computer, you can count on having another dedicated reader”

“That’s true. I’d possibly just have to change the fact that I work in pajamas eighty percent of the time and I’ll be good to go” she smiled, chuckling a little. “You actually think about what you’re going to say before you say it? I should probably try that sometime. I usually just get too excited to get my words out that I forget to check I’m even making sense. Oh, sure! If you just search ‘Alexa Love’ then you’ll probably find me”

David perused the baked goods section longingly while Kara got her coffee, and was knocked out of his stupour on her return, “Yeah of course,” he reached down into his bag to fish out a pen, then handed it over. “I have to warn you, I’m not the greatest at parties..”

“You’re very welcome,” Kara said with a grin before going up to the counter and ordering her coffee. She was excited for her birthday and was hoping to invite as many people as she could. “You should come by my place then. I’m having a small party. Do you have a pen or something so I can give you my address?”

David smiled sadly. The world was full of assholes, “The worst thing is is that it can always be worse.”

“It isn’t, but we never know.” Emily arched an eyebrow “I still treat people that arrive at the ER with stab wounds  and you still have bad guys to catch.

“Nice to meet you too.” Emily said shaking his hand “ At least now I know a cop to keep me safe.”

David laughed, “Yep. Boy in blue and all that,” He was surprised to hear about the guy again, “He must have been before my time, he’s obviously quite infamous around here... I promise that I don’t really have enough self-esteem to have that sort of authority.” He realised how bad that sounded for an officer, “I mean, like, an authority over good people, y’know?” He laughed again, his mood lightening by the moment, “That sounds great. I’m David, by the way.” He offered his hand to shake.

“You’re a police officer?” Phoebe had accidentally ignored his question, too focused on his profession. “Really? I’ve never seen you before. Not that - I mean, I’m not friendly with police officers. … Not that I don’t like them, though there was this one officer who was super mean, and tried to tell me what to do just because he had the authority to arrest me if he wanted to, and - well, I haven’t seen him in awhile though, so that’s good,” she rambled, gesturing her hands around as she did. Finally, she blinked over at him. “Oh, gosh, I’m sorry. Gym. Gyms are always a good idea. It’s a great way to start your day, and, hey, we could be gym buddies!”

David nodded, wringing his hands a little. It was all a bit deep, wasn’t it. He tried to lighten the conversation, “Thank god we’re not teenagers anymore, right? Don’t have to worry about your voice cracking or pimples. Now it’s just a question of taxes and responsibility.” He shuddered, to illustrate the point.

“Good quality ta’ have.” He’d nodded his head, knowing that he himself was guilty for having taken advantage of certain things along the way. “I thought I had the world i’d say. Teenager me. Didn’t really see things fer what they were always. Jus’ as important ta’ be able to learn. Learn you were wrong.” Sebastian has shrugged his shoulders again, weary that the conversation might be taking an oddly solemn tone.

David blushed, “Thanks... It’s just that I was chasing down this thief last week and I was winded for about an hour after I caught him. It wasn’t a good sight.”

“Me?” Emily asked looking around to be certain that the man was talking to her “Oh well, I think you look great but if you feel you need it, go ahead.”

David blushed at the compliment, “Well, in that case...” He laughed, “You’re making me hungry, man. It’s been, like, an hour since my meal.”

“Nah, you don’t. There’s no reason you can’t just let yourself go. I mean other than you’d probably be less attractive but you’re already pretty enough that you could pull it off to some degree.” Evan grinned. “Damn… I would have given up and gone for doughnuts long before tha. And that is why I’m not a cop.”

Alexa: I went to dinner with this really cute girl, like really cute and it went great.. or well, I thought it did. She was really nice and we even kissed.. it wasn't like mind-blowing but it was nice, you know? But I asked for her number and I ended up here.

“I appreciate your honesty,” He laughed, and was a bit surprised at the invite. He didn’t think he was close enough to anyone to go to any parties. “Uh, yeah, almost definitely.” He wanted to give her an out, should she change her mind, “I don’t think I’m working.”

“Well, if you do become one of the failures and you hear a laugh, it’s probably me,” Kara teased and winked at him. “Oh! Right, I almost forgot to mention, I’m having a party at my place Tuesday, you should come.”

David wanted to roll his eyes, but smiled instead. Everyone was the same, assuming David was straight cut good. Then again, no one really knew him enough. “If I had a dollar every time I heard that, I could retire and become a bad guy.”

“Of course you would” Lily shrugged, as though him wanting to see her was obvious. “I would say that I’d enjoy watching you catch them but I tend to prefer the bad guys. They’re often more.. interesting”
