something that has always stuck out to me about supernatural is that over the course of the seasons, i feel like sam & dean’s views and relationships with hunting sort of switched. in season 1 sam is out and wants a normal life, dean wants to hunt and follow in their dad’s footsteps. by season 14, dean’s dreaming of retiring and sam’s become this leader “chief” teaching and helping hunters. this is the biggest reason why the finale is so bad and why i (as a samgirl) think his ending was awful— because that’s not what he wanted anymore. season 1, yeah, even season 7, season 8, sure, but by the end, he doesn’t want that anymore. he’s tried and failed, why go after a life he knows doesn’t fit him? and it’s not what dean wants anymore either— he’s always believed he’ll go out swinging because he had to, but that’s not what he wanted.

“it’s just not what healing would look like for him” yep yep 110%. he spent so much time running from the life yet i feel like he’s happiest when he’s helping people, with his family. that’s my ideal ending, him with his family. i think it was cruel to drill the idea of family being the most important thing into our heads for 15 years and then rip away the only family sam’s ever known and call that a happy ending

new to the fandom. do sam stans like his ending... if not, what's the general consensus on what his ending should've been

oh man i honestly don’t have a great read on the fandom for this one. i know some sam stans love that he was able to get a happy, normal ending and grow old with a family, esp dean critics. there are also those of us who think he should have gotten to stay in the world of the supernatural, whether as a witch or taking bobby’s role in the hunting community or helping rowena set up hell or all of the above. personally, i think the ending just doesn’t make sense—yeah, that’s the life he wanted at the beginning of the show, but by the point of the finale it’s just not what healing would look like for him.

also, i think most people in this fandom just ignore the finale completely,, if there’s one general consensus we all share about sam’s ending it’s laughing at blurry wife and party city wig. sam nation chime in?
