Restaurants in Douglas County Colorado begin to allow indoor seating
A flurry of inspections at restaurants in Douglas County, Colorado took place Monday as they race to once again allow indoor seating.
The 2020 coronavirus outbreak allowed government administrators across the nation to force new restrictions on restaurants, draining the US economy’s momentum and hindering the recovery of millions of jobs lost during the recession. Finally, there might be some hope.

Independent Restaurants Are Out Of Options
One in five jobs lost during the Coronavirus pandemic come from restaurant industry.
500,000 independent restaurants and 11 million jobs are on the brink of going away forever. In order for restaurants to serve communities again and assist in reigniting the economy, we need the Senate to follow the House's lead and pass restaurant relief, specifically the RESTAURANTS Act, establishing the $120B Independent Restaurant Revitalization Fund.  They need our help now.
Tell Washington to Pass Restaurant Relief NOW!

Ghost Kitchens Are Taking Off
Here's how online food ordering throughout coronavirus has changed the industry.
The Scoop's insight:
What are ghost kitchens?
With the Covid-19 pandemic causing a lot of heartache in the restaurant industry, many restaurants are now testing "Ghost Kitchens." Others who have already tried them are moving full time to the ghost kitchen concept where meals are prepped for delivery.
Both ideas have begun to capitalize on the rising demand for ordering out with all the restaurants' lockdowns in place. The trend also speaks to third-party delivery partnerships' growing power, which has changed how many people find restaurants and elevated expectations for speed and convenience.

Covid-19 has forced 100,000 restaurants to close
The National Restaurant Association reveals latest survey findings: 40% of operators say they are unlikely to stay in business six months from now if there are no additional relief packages from the federal government; trade group sends letter to Congress and White House
The Scoop's insight:
It is so very sad what is happening to small independent restaurants.  Dreams crushed in only a few months and lots of unemployment due to the lockdowns.  There is NO evidence that restaurants are current hot spots for Covid-19 if social distancing practices are in place.

A New Orleans Pastry Chef On the Shutdown: 'We Need a Miracle'
Who knows whether or not they’re going to have anyone coming in. We have no cruises coming out of New Orleans. We have no conventions. The hotels aren’t going to be full. I don’t see how this is going to work. We need a miracle.
The Scoop's insight:
What can we do to get Government to relax the restrictions and let small restaurants open?  Does Gov care about privately owned small businesses?

Salt Lake City and ActorTy Burrell Develop ‘Tip Your Server’ Relief Plan for Food and Beverage Industry
SALT LAKE CITY – Relief will soon be on the way for some employees in Salt Lake City’s deeply impacted food and beverage industry. With continued uncertainty due to this week’s earthquake and the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, local restaurateur/bar owner Ty Burrell, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and the Downtown Alliance announced […]
The Scoop's insight:
Why Emergency Funds Are so Essential to the Restaurant Industry, and How You Can Help
The hospitality industry is really hurting from restaurant & bar closures due to the pandemic.  They need our help more than ever.
Regional efforts have popped up as well to help support local restaurants.
If you’re wanting to see more creative initiatives that restaurants are taking to feed the community and keep their doors from closing, check out this article
.
National relief efforts are in place to help restaurants all around the US. One Fair Wage is working to give sub-minimum wage employees no-strings-attached cash assistance, with a goal of $213,000, since the federal tipped minimum wage is still $2.13 an hour.
Toast has launched Rally for Restaurants, a campaign to help restaurants through this unprecedented time with the purchase of gift cards. This essentially is a micro-loan to your favorite eatery, and a promise that you’ll dine in as soon as you’re able to. Plus, Toast is donating $1 to organizations that are supporting the restaurant community for every gift card purchase shared on social media.
CORE Gives grants support to children of food and beverage service employees navigating life-altering circumstances.
United Way offers a 211 call service and encourages folks to reach out if they are unable to pay critical bills, access childcare, or other essential needs.
Chicago Hospitality United has launched a line of merchandise where all proceeds go to hospitality workers around the city.
Behind You, a Boston-based program, is taking donations for hospitality workers in need on Boston’s North Shore.
Rethink Food will provide 30 New York restaurants with $40,000 to change their operation model into a food distribution center.
Hook Hall Helps is working with Washington, D.C. Costco stores to fill open roles with restaurant workers that are out of work. They are also distributing care kits and family meals daily for industry workers in Washington D.C., and have implemented the Worker’s Relief Fund in partnership with Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington to receive donations to support industry worker relief measures.
9 in 10 restaurants have fewer than 50 employees, meaning they don’t qualify for certain government assistance loans and bail-outs. It’s such an important time to rally behind the restaurants that love and serve your community and this country. If you’re looking for other helpful restaurant-related guidance for navigating the COVID-19 outbreak, check out this resource.

Here’s Denver can support restaurants - Operation Family Meal
With the widespread economic impact on both businesses and restaurants, it's better now more than ever to support the local hospitality industry.
The Scoop's insight:
Operation Family Meal is a non-profit set up to feed Denver's hospitality industry employees and their families. This is in direct response to the COVID-19 virus, as all of Denver's bars and restaurants have been mandated to close until May 11th, 2020, displacing thousands of hospitality industry employees across the city.
Participating partner restaurants include Brava! Pizzeria, Meta Asian Kitchen, Bistro Georgette, Olivia, Quiero Arepas, Hinman’s Bakery, Blackbelly, Il Posto, American Elm, Highland Tap & Burger, Brider and Pizza Lady, with more joining every day. Distribution partners include Breakthrough Beverage, New Belgium Brewing, Gallo Wines, Southern and Diageo, Sysco, Shamrock, Performance, Altius Farms, Seattle Fish Company, Grower's Organic, US Foods, and Denver Food Rescue.
The program is fluid and will be expanding based on demand, but for now, meals can be picked up at the locations below between ***12 p.m. and 2 p.m.*** Monday, Wednesday and Friday (social distancing will be enforced).
Please bring any form of identification and proof of past restaurant/bar/hospitality employment. Meals will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis until they run out.
  PICKUP LOCATIONS:
Avanti F&B, 3200 Pecos Street Quiero Arepas, 1859 S. Pearl Street Olivia, 290 S. Downing Street Il Posto, 2601 Larimer Street American Elm, 4132 W 38th Avenue Highland Tap & Burger (Sloan’s Lake), 1565 N. Raleigh Street
It is easy for anyone in Colorado to get involved and support Operation Family Meal:
- Financial donations. Donations to help expand the program and cover costs can be taken through CHOW (bit.ly/33K1bu9) - Donating to-go packaging - Offering food donations - Staffing meal pick-up locations - Lending commissary kitchen use - Volunteering
“It is critical to nourish the mind, body, and soul during a crisis,” said John Hinman, owner of Hinman’s Bakery and Founder of CHOW. “Our hope is that this program will ease the stress and fears around this unprecedented situation and provide impacted restaurant workers with a sense of family during such a difficult time.”
To support this program, CHOW will be starting weekly online meetings via Zoom with professional therapist Heather Lundy from Khesed Wellness.
Khesed Wellness
is a mental health 501(c)3 and will provide free direct video/phone mental health therapy services to those out of work during this time.
  For more information, visit https://www.chowco.org.
For inquiries about general questions about Operation Family Meal, please contact [email protected].

 Best Waffles in Denver
Tumblr media
The early bird gets the worm! Let us whisk you up some fresh, made from scratch, waffles and some savory French Toast.
The Scoop's insight:
I have had these waffles personally and can say they are some of the best.  While Cafe Marmotte is known for being a traditional French Bistro, their weekend brunch is still a nice option form the other places that take forever to get in.  I like being relaxed on the weekends and this is the place for that.

Thursday Nights In Denver
Tumblr media
Some of my favorite Thursday night foodie specials in Denver.
The Scoop's insight:
Who has Thursday night dinner specials?
From a foodie's perspective, Thursday nights are not ideal to go out and eat.  It's too close to Friday, which is the best night for end of week fun.  It is also the middle of work week still.  So what would make a person want to venture out?  Well, usually I am not to keen on going out for dinner on Thursday's.  If I do want to roll out here is where I usually like to go:
Bull & Bush has the Prime Rib Special
There is the Chicken Tacos deal at Lola
One of my favorites, the "Bacon Flight" at Bacon Social House
Irish Snug has "Corned Beef Eggrolls" that you can wash down with their "Car Bombs".
Undici offers their "Bottle and Board" .
  More to come...
