from @jegulus-microfic's prompt, forest (115 words)
I'm in love with the whole 'Regulus as a forest spirit and James as a human' concept so i wrote it :D
Regulus steps out into his garden. It's lettuce season, and the leaves seem to be growing nicely. He lifts a hand to cast a small rain cloud and turns to retreat back inside when he sees him.
Humans rarely come near his area of the forest yet here he is. A young wanderer, looking incredibly lost and transfixed on Regulus.
"Hello there," Regulus says. The man looks around, seeming confused as to where the voice came from. Right. Humans aren't used to that.
"Hello there," Regulus repeats, out loud this time.
"Oh, hello there," the man replies with a goofy, crooked smile. And Regulus feels a little fluttering in his chest he's never felt before.
there is nothing I love more than the idea that all the poets knew Neil and Todd were in love but were never really sure if any of the other poets knew because they all kept quiet as to not out them
Meeks, always such an insomniac, hoping a late night walk will get him to feel at least a bit tired and noticing their door is accidentally left open. with a worried curiosity he peeks in to see them curled up in the same bed fast asleep. he carefully closes the door for them and when Pitts asks why he’s up he just says he was getting water
Pitts on the school’s roof with the radio him and Meeks have been working on. Not many others are outside but he spots Todd and Neil outside and they’re very close to each other, faces nearly inches apart. all he does is gather up the radio and leave, telling Meeks they’d get a better reception in the library
Knox knows that the poems Todd writes are for Neil, he found the love poems on accident while looking for the chemistry papers Todd promised him. now he feels an overwhelming urge to hide the notebook Todd writes them in whenever it’s left out in the open and often tells Charlie off if he tries to go rooting through it, strangely more defensive than what Charlie is used to
before Keating’s advice, Charlie did know to tread carefully when it’s needed. when the conversations in the cave turn to be about love and girls he carefully steers it away from the two boys huddled in the corner, more than willing to direct it towards himself and make up obviously false stories just to keep the attention away from them
even Cameron knows better. he loves studying in the quiet library but is quick to pack his things up when he can see just beyond the bookcases Neil and Todd sharing a gentle moment, sparing them the privacy. when Charlie gives him an obnoxious interrogation about why he’s studying in their room if he’s going to complain about the noise, he keeps his lips firmly sealed
yk whats traumatising? reading the secret history in class, your mentor walking by saying he read it (twenty years ago) and not even ten minutes later getting to THE jailbird brother scene💀
Little things in TSH that I had missed or forgotten the first time I read it:
It took Richard a whole year of pestering the college to let him in. It really proves how obsessive he is
Richard bumping into Francis in the hall before he joins the study group and being like: “Wowee I can’t believe that guy touched me. That was so cool; he was SO cool :D”
Francis talking to a cat he found on campus 🥹
CHARLES AND CAMILLA HAVE SLIGHT SOUTHERN ACCENTS
Julian loves flowers and keeps a bunch in his classroom
Richard’s Totally Real Car, Christine
Judy costuming, in her own words, “fucking As You Like It” implying that she also has to study obnoxious literature for her classes
Bunny genuinely believing Francis is as smart as Henry
Bunny is the only person who can make Henry laugh 🥺
Francis had a relative who died on the Titanic
Bunny would hide out at Richard’s whenever he pissed Marion off
Francis used to read Richard’s French homework out loud for him
Bunny’s hero is Caesar
Henry’s middle name is Marchbanks
Francis is a fan of the Boston Red Sox
The twins shrug with one shoulder
Henry finds Gucci “rather grand”
Charles’ wild cat that he forces Francis and Richard to bring to the farmhouse
Richard reads Proust *cough, cough, kinda gay, cough, cough*
When Francis is in the hospital in the epilogue, Richard reads “Our Mutual Friend” to him which, according to Goodreads, is about “the unfailing power of wealth to corrupt all who crave it.”
Every June Will & Hannibal send a Pride postcard to Jack covered in blood but in a lame ‘facebook couple’ pose style and it’s always in a different country and by the time he gets there, there’s no trace of them. His fridge is covered in postcards from them and Jack tells his therapist he’s losing his mind because he’s happy to see Will finally smile even if he’s committing murders with a cannibal
imo the homeric question is pretty useless since there will probably be no concrete evidence for both opinions (especially since it’s been ongoing for so long)
Stop fanfictions and posts where Achilles calls Patroclus "Pat". Achilles would never call Patroclus "Pat". Achilles is the only person in the world to pronounce the name Patroclus well, to detach the syllables well, not to say it at full speed until it is just an almost inaudible word. He pronounces it with love and care, and Patroclus loves it. So Achilles would go on forever, pronouncing his name as if it was his favourite word - and it probably is. No diminutive. Just Patroclus.
