Don't worry, this is only moments before Geralt busts in to kick some ass! And then he nurses Jaskier back to health and everything is fine and nothing hurts 🥲

Flufftober 2022: Day 12
@flufftober Day 12: “You Kept This?”
(Witcher // Geralt/Jaskier // Rating: T)
After their fight – after he screams at Jaskier, the sentiment even worse than the words themselves – Geralt sulks and fumes on the top of the mountain for a few hours. Then he starts making his way down, but slowly, killing more time by looking out for anything else that needs killing to make it safer for whichever unlucky souls are the next to take this path.
By the time he makes it back to where Roach is waiting for him, Jaskier has had more than enough time to get away from the area entirely… but he hasn’t. The scent of him and the familiar sound of his heartbeat (and quiet, intermittent humming) are as clear as day, coming from inside the inn where all this started.
Jaskier must have known that Geralt would be able to tell he’s there immediately. He’s not waiting for him, exactly – he’s not going to demand an apology, or make sure he gets the chance to tell him what a total fucking bastard he is before he goes on his way; instead, he’s giving Geralt the choice of whether to come to him or not.
Geralt had no intention of staying here tonight, or stopping at all until he was at least fifty miles from the accursed place, but this has the feeling of a last chance being offered, and he’s not going to turn it down just so he can gather more regret.

ok I knew Jaskier was a master of the seven liberal arts but I had no idea what they actually were until I looked them up and wouldn’t u know it, astronomy is one of them, which encompasses navigation, mathematics and actual physics. Now I’m laughing at this thought:
Some mage who Geralt got hired to kill a monster or smth for idk: damn this equation I’m doing for a spell isn’t working
Jaskier, a bard who the mage saw being yelled at by Geralt earlier because he tried to fuck the Lord’s son and nearly succeeded: that’s because you’re doing it wrong lol
Mage: you are literally a bard wdym
Jaskier, a bard who has the equivalent of a physics masters degree: yeah and

Cavill is not a martyr
I have been seeing so many posts and comments along the lines of “Henry Cavill left the Witcher because they were inaccurate to the books and he had enough of all the changes”
And this thought process, especially if you mention the recent DeMayo writer’s interview, is just a flawed thought process.

the real reason netflix had to fuck up eskel so badly is that he would have fixed the mountain riff in 0.5 seconds in true eldest sibling fashion by tossing his little shit of a younger sibling over his shoulder and marching him back down from kaer morhen that autumn to fix things with the bard bc like HELL will he watch geralt keep up his favorite hobby of self-sabotage and make the rest of them ALSO miserable in the process

One of my main issues with how Netflix is handling The Witcher is that they keep trying to make Geralt a manly man with no emotions who beats everything up and barely talks and doesn't need anyone, and that's not who he is.
Geralt of Rivia loves philosophy, his best friend is a bard whom he states several times he'd die for. He loves Yennefer and isn't afraid to show it.
He can be a whiny brat. In the books, he's been told off for sulking by damn near everyone.
When it comes to his job he's learned every single detail and will absolutely fire off his lexicon of knowledge if you ask the right questions.
He sees the value in life, and won't kill monsters that have sentience. Even when he does, he knows that the root of the problem is shit like habitat clearing and human hubris.
For someone whose job is monster hunting, he hates getting dirty and will spend ages in the bath scrubbing himself clean.
And every person he's ever met he's won over with his personality alone, to the point where four people who've never met Ciri in their lives joined Geralt's cause to rescue her, to the point where they literally lay down their lives in the pursuit.
I just don't understand why they didn't try to keep his character as close to the source as possible. We have so many iterations of strong manly men with no emotions, we didn't have to change Geralt to be yet another male fantasy.

Modern AU where Jaskier befriends Geralt, still a witcher, and decides to show him every monster movie in existence because he knows it pisses Geralt off to see the inaccuracies.
One day Jaskier demands to know whether Geralt could do better than those movies so he attaches a GoPro to his armour and goes out monster hunting and the footage leaves Jaskier unable to sleep for a month unless Geralt sits in the room with him.

Geralt likes his personal space.
Jaskier also likes Geralt's personal space.
And therein lie so many of Geralt's problems.
Problem one:
Jaskier takes every opportunity he can get to drape his arms around Geralt's waist, as if Geralt was one of his lovers. And when Geralt sees him holding someone else, he finds himself wishing he were in their place.
Problem two:
Jaskier likes resting his head on Geralt's shoulder and closing his eyes, as if Geralt was someone Jaskier felt fully safe with.
And when they go their seperated ways for a while, the only weight Geralt has on his shoulders is the weight of his swords.
Problem three:
Jaskier likes taking Geralt's hand and dragging him along to show him something exciting, as if Geralt was someone he wanted to share his life with. And when they walk side by side, Geralt's hands are twitching, as he wishes he could be brave enough to take hold of Jaskier's hand as well.
Problem four:
Jaskier likes falling asleep holding Geralt close, as if Geralt was someone who needed cuddling and protecting. And when Geralt is at Kaer Morhen for the winter, he finds he cant fall sleep without his bard being there anymore.
All in all, Geralt's problem is this:
Jaskier likes being in Geralt's personal space.
Geralt also likes Jaskier being in his personal space.

I just saw a post debating whether in a modern AU, Geralt of Rivia would use swords or a gun to hunt monsters
Excuse me
Modern Geralt of Rivia uses live traps, sedatives, and radio collars
Modern Geralt of Rivia breaks into the veterinary clinic of someone he went to grad school with and falls asleep in the laundry area. The staff find him when they come in in the morning.
When modern Geralt of Rivia’s grant funding ran out he started guiding drug traffickers through the wilderness to pay for his conservation work.
