Naught At All
i cannot call you beautiful
for it pales my intent
nor can i call you wonderful
with that term i'm not content
i'm afraid to note your genius
as i'll come out sounding dull
to praise your talent - meaningless
done to keep my ego full
what i can do is to tell you
that those things mean naught at all
you're more than just a pretty view
treasure more than golden halls
the greatest prize is who you are
a thing you share with me afar

Periphery
a frozen flower shining
at vision's periphery
its aura sad and angry
as it stares at me
and yet wearily I smile
my eyes trace its icy glare
left to wonder meaning
into the story there

Moonlight
have you ever wondered why,
the sun weeps tears of reddest blood,
as it falls 'neath the horizon,
losing then its sky bound place,
the moon's hiding place undone;
a frozen face on whitest stone,
ascends the heavens nigh,
until in bitterest twilight,
it follows its friend into the sea,
to shroud its disc so bright;
pretend me hither 'gainst the sky,
in bas relief my spirit flies,
pointing earnestly with darkened heart,
shivering faintly in earthly art,
a message comes in with th' morn,
darkness banished - light restored

Aquarial
a quiet wind blew gently
‘cross a moonlit summer night
calling forth deep memories
that left me cold inside
it played upon my heart strings
as it rippled on the lake
carrying a wolf’s dread cry
to light upon my resting place
i stumbled from within my tent
down to the water’s edge
and peered out across the mist
to a world often hid’
water form-ed creatures danced
above the depthless lands
whereupon their ageless fathers
still haunt among the sands
falling down upon my knees
my eyes a flowing veil of tears
i clenched them tightly closed
and saw my nighttime spectres
formless creatures of the brine
from a land of endless sorrow
come now upon this lake
to resuscitate my primal marrow
and in so doing bring me low
by virtue of my inborn shame
rendering me not less than Human
but also not more than Fiend

One Year
you were beautiful – yet sad
when you blew in on the breeze
clinging to the life you had
'midst the autumn colored leaves
you shivered when i held you
dancing slowly to and fro
your new aura emerald hued
peeking through the fallen snow
you ran amid the tulips
in the early springtime rain
naked – regal – coldly shrift
proving me the one that's vain
the truth untold – free at last
hot and steamy – summer's here
i found contentment growing fast
just in loving you all year

Young
open up your window
and count the stars at night
do not fear the shadows
that frolic by dim light
no boogie man or ghoul
lies hiding 'neath your bed
the monsters in your dreams
live only in your head
yet lest adults forget
the images of youth
believe idly in the secrets
of your once imagined truth

Still
sitting still
at her desk
eyes intense
brunette hair
the girl
sitting still
turned her head
and smiled
my heart
and time
standing still
vividly remembered
a memory
a picture
of that moment
ever still
sitting still
at my desk
eyes wandering
then caught
unblinking
pupils still
four eyes locked
goose flesh
contact breaks
our teacher
droning still
the moment lost
but there
she is
in my dreams
sitting still

Uninvented
dream not at all unless it be
in colors as yet uninvented
for though it lie beyond the see
naught there be unimagined
'though Euclid paid them little heed
build worlds from chaotic shapes
and in your mind forge mighty deeds
'midst Lovecraftian landscapes
the boundless trek to infinity
opens 'fore your lidless "eye"
a token part of our divinity
glimpsed before we truly die
yet we fear to have belief
in that illusory relief

Hallowed Spirit
a wandering spirit
gaily speaks
of songs of sorrow
in moans and creaks
of absolute darkness
robed about bones
and blood-stained walls
'neath a bell’s wailing tones
carved orange faces
by the Horseman flung
and whispering echoes
in quiet fear sung
from bottomless wells
and the souls trapped within
or the mouths of goblins
ken their trickster kin
of shambling horrors
from Human flesh wrought
and fiery dragons
tasty damsel caught
but also it spake
in its’ voice from the grave
of virtuous princesses
and errant knights brave
of humble hedge wizards
and bumbling thieves
furries and druids
and their homes ‘neath the leaves
of stout swarthy dwarves
winsome fey elves
space marines and hippies
and gnomes in darkness delved
Sith lords and Jedi
and Batman – not last
angels on pinion
evil chased 'fore their grasp
but mostly it spoke
in its’ eerie death speech
of children and candy
and an Earthly peace
when I woke from its trance
I knew its’ plain mean’
it spoke of Samhain
and of our Halloween

Nowhere
a friend
came slowly up along my side
we shared a glance
and then we walked
to nowhere
a crag
appeared before our path
it stood in our way
but we went around
continuing to nowhere
a forest
lined the way around us
it darkened the sky
and held back the clouds
as we went to nowhere
a storm
pattered us with raindrops
we moved under the boughs
and sat awhile
as we rested nowhere
a bird
fluttered down from the sky
it joined us under the tree
and kept us company
on the path to nowhere
a thunderclap
sundered the air around us
we leaned against the trunk
and closed our eyes
to dream of nowhere
a dream
showed us a fork in the road
we read the signpost
and chose the way
that pointed nowhere
a girl
woke us from our slumber
we spoke to her
and told her of our journey
to go nowhere
a wolf
called out in the woods
we bid her farewell
and set out again
toward nowhere
a sign
hailed us in familiar fashion
we had dreamed of it
but we stood quietly
on the edge of nowhere
a friend
looked me long in the eyes
we shared a moment
and agreed
everywhere is somewhere

Understanding
'though i do not understand
why things have brought me here
i cannot help but try to stand
and make myself seem cheer
for in a simple smiling face
i find myself at ease
and wonder less about my place
while looking toward the trees
beyond the window sunshine glows
upon a day made new for me
in the garden flowers grow
untold beauty there to see
sadness will not last too long
like a flower it will fade
in its' wake i will be strong
where i oft' have stayed
so 'though i do not understand
why things have brought me here
i know that my smiles can
through virtue persevere
