never too late for love
Title: never too late for love
Ship/Fandom: Steve/Tony | Fandom
Author: Sineala
Summary:
Steve has always believed that a soulbond is a blessing -- a rare and beautiful miracle, joining the thoughts and feelings of two people forever, from the first time they touch. Steve knows he's not going to be one of the lucky ones. He knows Gail isn't his soulmate. But he loves her, even if they're not soulmates, and he's going to do right by her. After the war's over, he's going to marry her, and they're going to settle down. They'll buy a house. They'll have children. He'll see his family again. Maybe Bucky will live next door. It's going to be a good life. He doesn't need a soulbond. He'll be fine without one.
Then Steve wakes up sixty years in the future to find that his wonderful life has moved on without him. His family is long dead. His fiancée married his best friend. And the only purpose he has left is leading the Ultimates, a misbegotten team of superheroes with flaws too numerous to count. Steve hates everything about the future -- but most of all he detests Tony, flashy and flirtatious, who embodies everything Steve hates about a world he never wanted to live in.
And, oh, yeah, Steve has a soulmate after all: Tony fucking Stark.
arei says: this. fic. I love this fic, so damn much. i love soulmate aus but this one is so damn lovely, so well done with the pining and the angst and just--gorgeous. Being that deep in Steve’s POV usually doesn’t work for me but it was so well done I actually barely noticed it was never from Tony’s POV.
Highly recommend.

let me be buried under your name
title: let me be buried under your name
ship/fandom: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes | MCU
author: @tempestaurora
summary:  Bucky's dog tags were folded in the crease of the paper he'd torn from his journal, reading: "Steve, here. You have them, if you want them. You have me, if you want me. I’ve never tried loving a man before but for you I’ve run headfirst into wars and Death’s wide, gaping jaws, so this is easy in comparison. This is like breathing."
It was so dark when Bucky handed him the note, the fire just burning out, and he glanced back only once to see Steve watching him as he walked away.
moth says: oh my god y’all. oh my god. 1 - stucky isn’t my typical pairing but HOLY SHIT. if anyone ever wants to know how deeply bucky loves steve, this is it. this is the fic. 2 - i dont usually read long stories (time and attention span) but i literally forwent sleep for this.
like, it’s not a dark fic - it’s from witner’s pov sometimes. but it so elegantly captures winter’s struggle to remember and be human and all. like, i don’t want to say too much for fear of spoiling this, but it’s so beautiful and poignant and just...
MY HEART.

this love immortal is an assassin's delight
Title:  this love immortal is an assassin's delight
Ship/Fandom: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes | MCU
Author: @voxofthevoid
Summary:
“Captain America lives on the top floor. Roof access. This is the closest we can get with camera surveillance. Stark hasn’t started sweeping random bakeries, not yet. Think you can handle the mission?”
The Soldier has killed presidents and priests, drug lords and diplomats, people with small armies to protect them and people who could make him break a sweat as they fought for their lives. He has shaped the century.
These are facts, not memories.
But he knows this is nothing, this mission. Follow a lone man around the city. Break into his apartment. Watch and observe.
“Yes,” he says.
“Guess Pierce was right. This is ironic. Fucking poetic even.” Rumlow snorts. “Barnes is a supersoldier. You’re the only one who can take care of him, isn’t that right, Cap?”
That is not the Soldier’s designation. He nods anyway.
- After the Battle of New York, Captain America refuses to work for S.H.I.E.L.D and remains in New York. Alexander Pierce activates the Winter Soldier to handle the situation and unknowingly signs Hydra’s death warrant.
Arei’s thoughts:
Look. You guys.
You. GUYS.
I am a sucker for Steve showing a little bit of a dark side and this was...jesus. So good at that.
A+ pining and Winter Soldier characterization and the whole ‘take care of Captain America’ bit with the milk made me swoon, ok. You guys. Do yourself and me a favor. Go read it and then tell me how amazing it is so we can shout about it together.

Pairing: Clint Barton/James Barnes Summary: The man is fuck-off tall, with bright blue eyes. He’s wearing a purple t-shirt with a target on it that hugs his broad shoulders and lean waist. Dark jeans, gone a little frayed at the seams, stretch down and down and down his endless legs. “Who’s that?” he asks, as Steve shakes off his grip and comes around to take a look. “Who? Him?” Steve lifts his hand to point and Bucky slaps it out of the air. “Jesus, Steve, don’t be so obvious. Yeah, him. Purple shirt,” Bucky says. Biceps that I want to bite. Abs to die for. Scruff that I’d like to feel between my thighs, he doesn’t say. Moth adds: OMG folks. It's literally just dumb soft boys not communicating. But! Deaf Clint! Bucky learns sign! DION!!

the trial run
itle: the trial run
Ship/Fandom: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark | MCU
Author:  Annie D (scaramouche)
Summary:
Tony and Steve pretend to date, and enjoy it far more than they should.
Arei’s thoughts:
I love fic where they don’t know they’re dating. Like. This is fake dating, but every fake date is for appearance sake and I just wanted to shake them all and say--you idiots, you’re DATING.
Anyway. It’s lovely.

stumble in the debris
Title: stumble in the debris
Ship/Fandom: Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes | MCU
Author: Wintergrey
Summary:
...this is what his mama meant when she told him not to flirt with danger. Sam keeps his foot on the gas as he cuts through an intersection on the diagonal and out into a supermarket parking lot. Even the looters are gone now, nothing’s left behind but twisted carts, glittering safety glass, and ransacked cars. The near-black cloud cover above is mottled with red with light cast from fires burning into the night. Strings of purple and white lightning crawl from cloud to cloud, a low rumble of thunder brings a little hope for rain.“Head for the I-66,” Bucky orders.
Arei’s thoughts:
I am a huge fan of fic where Sam is the one Bucky turns to after CA:WS and this one does that so flawlessly I can’t even. Bucky and Sam’s dynamic is defined by the way they snark and sass and them doing that while Hydra draws closer is...exquisite. I especially loved the way the aftermath of CA:WS is alluded to, with the blackouts and Steve and Hydra’s helicopter circling Sam’s apartment. There was a lot packed into this little fic, and it was well worth every word.

wait & sea
Title: wait & sea
Ship/Fandom: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark| MCU
Author: Lenalena
Summary: In which Tony and Steve get sent on an undercover mission aboard a cruise ship to make contact with Hydra. In this AU the military has kept the discovery and defrosting of Captain America a secret, so Steve and Tony have never met before. Yet they are to pose as newlyweds....
Arei’s thoughts:
I LOVED this. It was fantastic, from Tony being so...Tony, to Steve’s hidden identity and twink-y alter ego. The snark was flawless, and the pining, dear god. It’s fantastic and made me LOL several times. Read it, friends.

before we breathe easy
Title: before we breath easy
Ship/Fandom: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes | MCU
Author: @belovedmuerto
Summary: No one touches Steve. Bucky sets out to do something about that.
Arei’s thoughts:
This fic is beautiful. The whole series is flawless. It’s soft and domestic and the sweet slow growth and healing in both Steve and Bucky is so utterly perfect. It’s flawless and just as enjoyable the second time I read it as it was the first.
