Maedhros: I don’t have emotions
Narrator: He did in fact have many emotions
Caranthir: Well, I hate you all
Narrator: He did not in fact hate anyone
Celegorm and Curufin: We have a great idea
Narrator: They did not ever in fact have any great ideas
Maedhros: (sigh) Maglor can you stop singing commentaries from the balcony
Maglor: The great minstrel of the Nolder would not in fact be silenced

I'm hardly the first person to say this, but oh my god I am obsessed right now with how Fingon and Maedhros are paralleled by the other's father.
Fëanor's father followed him into exile (Formenos) only to die alone at Morgoth's hand. Fingon's father follows him into exile (Flight of the Ñoldor), and then also dies alone at Morgoth's hand.
Fingolfin tried to make peace between their families and with his brother by swearing to follow him after Morgoth's lies were revealed. Maedhros tries to makes peace between their families by swearing to follow Fingolfin as High King after being rescued from Morgoth.
Fingon is described as steadfast but fiery and bold; he's valiant and kinda rash, like Fëanor. Maedhros is charismatic and proud, but diplomatic and patient, very much like Fingolfin.
Fingon dies fighting a shit ton of Balrogs alone, exactly the same way Fëanor dies, although no one was there to save Fingon's body.
Maedhros' death is an act of utter despair and hopelessness, very similar to Fingolfin's, although no one was there to save Maedhros' body.

Elrond be like: I am 4/8 human, 3/8 elf, and 1/8 angel. My mother is a bird and my father is the North Star. My twin brother was the first king of Atlantis but somehow I seem to be more famous than him. I am one of three ringbearers, the other two being the female version of Feanor and a guy who loves fireworks. My foster father is a crazy homeless guy who likes music and his whole family is dead. My many-greats grandnephew is in love with my daughter. No one can tell my sons apart. I like waterfalls and am both a glorified innkeeper and a top-notch doctor. I am the voice of reason no one listens to.

FRANÇOIS ARNAUD as Cesare Borgia in 'The Borgias' (2011-2013) "He's awful, obviously. He's an awful man. [Laughs] But a brilliant one. He was a great politician, a great warrior, not a great man of the church, obviously. I respect him in a way."

I am pretty sure I won't be writing a modern Silmarillion AU anytime soon, but if I do, there will absolutely be moments where someone is saying "I'd rather (thing that was a source of great pain and or death in canon) than (uncomfortable thing)".
Something along the lines of this:
Finrod: "I would rather be mauled by wolves than study for that exam."
Turgon: "I would rather be crushed by a tower than pull another allnighter."
Maedhros: "I would rather hang from a cliff for 30 years than ask him out."
I think that would be really funny.

There's something so wonderfully, perfectly autumnal about the Lord of the Rings and even the Silmarillion. It is profound and beautiful and filled with splendor, but also so melancholic and tragic and bittersweet that it makes your heart ache.
The elves are leaving for the Western Shores and magic is dying, but there is something so beautiful about it, even as it slowly withers, like the changing leaves in the autumn trees. There is beauty even in the loss, life in death, joy found even in the midst of pain. It is fair even in the fading.

@ainurweek Day 1 ⇢ Eönwë
Chief among the Maiar of Valinor whose names are remembered in the histories of the Elder Days are Ilmarë, the handmaid of Varda, and Eönwë, the banner-bearer and herald of Manwë, whose might in arms is surpassed by none in Arda.

out of all the sibling relationships in the house of finwë i feel like aredhel and turgon often get short shrift….i mean she went with him in the night with no warning whatsoever so that they could build a city because of a dream he had and then stayed no-contact in that city for hundreds of years while he broke maybe the biggest elven taboo (while ignoring the wishes of the two most important people in his life) and killed the person who took his sister away from him. just more unhinged codependent til-death-do-us-part aredhel and turgon please, i am gnawing on the walls
