Hello lovely ones, today's prompt for #marchmeetthemaker is Highs and Lows. The highs of my day are when a doll comes to life, and I see a little face that I can just fall in love with. It is such a wonderful feeling that my hands have created this little character. If I can get a feeling that a doll has a mind, thoughts, feelings of its own all the better it makes everything worthwhile. It’s such a special feeling, I want to cherish and protect them. I have to admit that the lows of my life come by the way of social media. If I could sit and create all day and not worry about getting my dolls out into the world I would be a blissfully happy little artist. There is nothing more disappointing than writing a ‘good’ post and taking some nice photos and putting it all out there only to have the algorithms decided to hardly show anyone. And when only 6 people read your latest blog, you do wonder if it was worth the time it took to write. I know this a problem that everyone trying to sell on-line is having at the moment, even big business don’t have the reach they used to, but if you have very few followers then that reach is so small that trying to grow seems like a monumental task. Hello lovely ones, today's prompt for #marchmeetthemaker is big and little. So I thought I would show you the difference in head size, between the smallest dolls I make and Blythes that I occasionally customise. Their bodies may be about half the size of a Blythe but their heads are a lot lot smaller 😅. It does mean that they make nice dolls for the Blythes to play with 💕 In case you are wondering, Blythe dolls are plastic dolls that are highly collectible and so much fun to customise and sew for. This is my latest doll. Hello lovely ones and fairy folk. Today is day 9 of #marchmeetthemaker by the fantastic @joannehawker and today's prompt is Trial and Error. A perfect prompt for me to tell you about my attempts at soldering recently. I have been through practically every craft it is possible to do in one’s own kitchen. And a few that are probably not really advisable in a kitchen; glass beads for instance. Holding the blowtorch wrapped in a towel (it got real hot) between your knees while forming glass beads could have turned out dangerous. As it happens both me and the house got out unscathed. I have some sweet little beads as testament to a short lived ‘hobby on a whim’, and all the equipment that is required, should that whim ever return. About the same time, but with a smaller blow torch, just your regular kitchen, melt the sugar on a crème brulee, type of torch, I played with silver jewellery making and had lot of fun soldering rings and pendants etc. whilst building up another selection of tools and equipment. Hello Lovelies Todays Prompt for is Learning. I love learning new things, most often when I should really be getting on with something else, I can already do but just don't want to. The bright, shiny, fun, ness of a new craft is so alluring don't you agree. I may also suffer a tad from invincibility syndrome. I don't know if that is an actual thing, please do let me know if it is and if it has a proper name. Basically I mean that I always think I can do something, I don't mean really well to start, but I don't think I'm not going to try in case I fail, no I think ok lets give this a go, what can go wrong. Thankfully I haven't burnt the house down yet or chopped a finger off. My new table saw still scares the bejesus out of me when I turn it on, it's so loud, but I still turn it on and I'm learning to use it. Hello Lovelies Today’s prompt in #Marchmeetthemaker is ‘start the day’. I am not the world’s most organised person that’s for sure, but I try and plan my days and weeks, setting myself goals. Not so much deadlines as once I give myself a deadline, I find I can’t do anything on that task until right up to the last minute. Not a useful trait, but one I know I have so I work around things by setting goals I’d like to achieve. Anyway, my morning begins with tea in bed, then walk the dog, followed by more tea and getting out my Bullet Journal and ideas book and making a bit of a plan for the day. And also checking for tasks that need doing so I don’t forget them. I really enjoy making books and if I could find the dot paper in the right size, I would make my BuJo, but instead I settle for covering it. I have used this lovely pink flowery material for my current one. I have staged these photos as you can probably guess as I have cleared away a bit of the mess. But to be honest it was really nice using a china cup and not being surrounded by clutter. I think I will keep it up, at least for a few days. So my plans for this week involve making a porcelain doll and continuing work on #the100dayproject, both of which are sculpting and no sewing involved. I am starting to feel the need to sew, so I have decided to make some Blythe clothes as well this week, while I am waiting on clay to dry and for a bit of gentle evening sewing. I have neglected my poor Blythes for too long. What are your plans for the week ahead? I hope you achieve all you aim for; I shall blow a little fairy dust your way to help. Meet the Maker is here again yay. I love to take part in this challenge it’s a great way to find out lots more about the people I love to follow, and to let you, lovely person into more of my world. Day 1:- Brand Origin I have sewn all my life as well as knitting, crochet, lace making, anything textile related you can do with your hands. So when I got the chance to start making for a living, I jumped straight in. I made 50s style dresses to start, then millinery before discovering the world of Dolls. And then I was hooked. I had found my happy place. I went by the name Honey Pot Creations to start as it encompassed everything and I had (and still do) have a tendency to call everyone honey. So the Dolls became Honey Pot Dolls and my first range of button jointed cloth dolls I called Bees Knees Art Dolls to fit with the theme. Well, before long I found myself moving away further from children’s doll as I discovered Art Dolls on Pinterest and here on Instagram. Learning to work with different clays let me really find my creative side. And with that a more grown up branding was called for, so I stepped out of the Honey Pot and called myself Alison Jackson Art Dolls as you see now. I feel I have come a long way since my first doll award back in 2015. I still find it hard to think of myself as an artist, I think a lot of us suffer from imposter syndrome. But, I am starting to believe especially after winning 2 awards in Doll Prague last November. I’m still uber excited about that. I really love the colours of my brand now, as you can see as I make a lot of dolls using these colours.
