[ FLAWS TO GIVE YOUR CHARACTERS ] + how to actually incorporate them into your writing

You’ve got a wonderful new muse with a brand new personality you’re ready to explore. Presumably, you’ve given them a couple of negative character traits, or flaws. But it’s one thing to say your character is stubborn, and another to have them act like it. Incorporating your character’s flaws isn’t all about having them intertwined in complex, large events. These traits should be just as much a part of your character’s every day conversations and relationships as their positive ones should.

I’ve listed a selection of various negative traits below, and with them I’ve included several habits/actions/considerations to keep in mind when writing replies or plotting relationships. Most of these are small things you can intertwine into your replies naturally, allowing you to express your character’s negative traits in a subtle but very human way. All the traits are from this wonderful list, but all the suggestions are entirely my own.

Maggie had an inkling about it, but to hear the words drop from her sister’s lips just made it all that much more real. She felt the color drain from her face before she brought her hands up to brush her hair back. “No, no, I can’t be…” she muttered, trying to be in denial about it. Not that she didn’t believe in the science, but she just couldn’t be a mother. Period. She couldn’t bring a child into her fucked up life.

Reaching over she took Maggie's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "You are pregnant, Mags. Do you know who the father is?" Last thing she wanted to believe was that her sister was sleeping around. Or that she was druggie but clearly that had been one she couldn't avoid considering the track marks on her arms. The science was there, it wasn’t like anyone could alter the test or the results. Whatever Maggie needed help with, Vicki would be there.

Due to some unfortunate events, I've decided to do the thing that I didn't want to do. But it is for the best. I’ll be deleting this account over the next few days sometime, just like my older accounts that I’ve moved from. But do not fret because I am going to be moving accounts. au in which muse a and muse b have been neighbors for years, their apartment doors face to face on the highest floor of their building. in summer it gets pretty hot up there, so they started leaving their doors open to get some more fresh air in. that eventually led to several agreements about what music is playing (since it can be heard in both apartments, with the doors open), how they get their pets to like each other, etc. soon their apartments morphed into one, the constantly open doors making it easy to get from muse a’s place to muse b’s place to borrow some sugar, get the runaway cat back, change the radio channel or simple eat over there, because the afternoon sun is burning right into your own living room. they don’t realize that they are basically living together until muse a suddenly starts dating someone and muse b finds themself in front of a closed door.. ..and doesn’t like it at all.
