Composer’s notes: Hi there!

This is my first ever ‘serious’ composition, if you will. Dreamscape Waltz comes across as a childish, sickeningly sweet work, however, the background of it comes out the more you listen.

I wrote this as a kind of ‘personal’ project on my school trip to Tasmania, where I was a part of the Art Stream (because outdoor education is painful). My stream stayed on the lovely Bruny Island for the majority of the trip.

Now I’ve never been a good sleeper; I’m actually incapable of deep sleep. So on the second night on Bruny I found myself awake at the ungodly hour of 3am. Everything was quiet except for the out of sync breaths of my 5 doom mates.

And so Dreamscape Waltz was born (at around 3:12am).

I wrote the piece hoping the dreams of my doom mates would follow that of the melody; a pleasant constant that may turn sour as they head back towards consciousness.

P.S. If you’re wondering where the wood blocks came from there was this bitch of a bird that kept knocking on the window and I swear I was about to throw a lamp at it before the idea hit me.

Decretum: Theme and Variations for Piano (hard)

Or: Sayaka Miki’s Theme from Puella Magi Madoka Magica By Kajiura Yuki

There are 6 Theme A variations and 3 Theme B variations. The 5th variation of Theme A and 3rd variation of Theme B are both equally hard however ThB V3 will feel harder due to ThA draining stamina. Stamina is the key to playing this, once you pass ThB V3 there is a Cool Down section but if you have small hands that might still be challenging. Work hard at this piece and you’ll find similar pieces less tiring.
