Gelatinous Cubes are green because they are magically evolved from photosynthetic cyanobacteria that ended up in a dungeon and developed mobility, carniverousness, and enough cognition to solve labyrinths.
What scientists do not understand is how they maintain a roughly cubic shape or why, since a Gelatinous Lozenge would be more efficient.
It's very funny to me that the stereotypical gelatinous cube is bright fucking green when the monster itself is almost perfectly transparent. Like its gimmick is that it's a monster that imitates an empty 10x10 hallway. How many people have fallen victim to gelatinous cubes because they "know" that the ooze is bright green and so don't bother to check the suspiciously clean corridor in front of them.

AD&D 1e Players Handbook weirdness:
When the DM informs you that your character has a urinary tract infection, and if they roll an 8 on a d8 it's fatal.

It says 'ache' on every side, so I guess it's for Chronic Pain: The Table Top Role-Playing Game

A werebeholder in crinos form.

Lycanthropes in ascending order of unmanagability and CR:
Weredog (as werewolf but herds sheep instead of mauling them)
Werespider (huge and horrific but basically an ettercap at the end of the day)
Weregaroo (jacked. pugilistic. better pack your silvered brass knuckles or you don't stand a chance.)
Wereapotamous (run.)
Werewhale (you don't need adventurers, you need a convention of ordained clergy to discuss why a caring pantheon would allow this thing's existence)
Werebeholder.
颅Here me out:
Werewerewolf

"First of all it's 'Illithid.' 'Mind Flayer' is an ethnic slur. And we're the smartest, most powerful beings in the multiverse. We make Elves look like Kobolds. Grimlocks suck."
The Monster Manual but it's blatantly written by the monsters

Hasbro needs to learn the Jack Harkness Rule, familiar to every Doctor Who fan:
If it's an adult of its species, of at least normal human intelligence, and consents enthusiastically, Captain Jack Harkness will fuck it.
I think one of the starkest illustrations of how incoherent Hasbro's goals for Dungeons & Dragons are is that they made the writers take out all the direct references to dragon-fucking in 5E in a bid to render the IP more advertiser-friendly, but still insisted upon keeping a bunch of stuff whose narrative context strongly implies dragon-fucking front and centre in the brand identity, so now the Player's Handbook has gotta play coy about where dragon-blooded sorcerers come from.

My current AD&D 1e game.
Last week, a player was shocked to learn that after ten or so game sessions, exactly two days had passed in-game.
The main quest was introduced in the first session, and they haven't started on it. But they've been having fun, and that's what matters.
"Congratulations! You've completed your first quest"
-the DM at the end of session 80
