question! your clanmew fruit guide mentions cranberries, and it’s generally thought that cranberries help lower risk of UTIs and stuff like that in people dogs and cats. would the clans have any knowledge of this?
I have to look into it! I know the studies can be a bit mixed, some say they do lower risk of UTIs, others don't
But most of all I need to check if the compounds in that species of cranberry is the same as the species that Clan cats have access to. The American cranberry is the type that makes up the majority of these studies, but the Clans encounter BOG Cranberry!
American, also called "large cranberry" = Vaccinium macrocarpon
Bog = Vaccinium oxycoccos
I'll get to this research when I finally getting around to the urinary herb guides, which will probably be around the same time I get to the bowel movement guides

Chemistry behind Cranberries
Cranberries are the perfect blend of tangy and sweet, making them a beloved choice for jams and dried snacks. But that's not all—they also pack a punch in preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs). A study by scientists at New Jersey State University in 1998 found that cranberries contain procyanidin A2, which has the remarkable ability to prevent bacteria like E. coli from sticking to the epithelial cells of the urinary tract and bladder walls. Cranberries truly are a powerhouse when it comes to UTI prevention!

As someone who was only told this by a doctor today after having a UTI for over a week now - don’t take anti inflammatory medication when you have one!
Apparently it fucks with your kidney in a way that works alongside the infection rather than against it, and actually ends up making it worse!

Hello I'm a little desperate right now.
I'm fighting a uti and have been to get antibiotics and they haven't worked. I've been taking oregano oil, over the counter anti-uti capsules, drinking tons and now I'm taking d-mannose tablets and constantly burning myself with a hot water bottle.
It doesn't hurt or burn when I pee thankfully, but the urgency to urinate just won't go.
I can't shake it and I can't afford to go back to the doctor to get something else.
Does anyone have any magic treatment ideas? 😭

My pain is making me really dizzy right now, but I am proud of myself.
When I was putting together urinary care stuff for my friend the other day, I really really think that I have the expertise (personal and professional) to BE PAID TO BE CHRONICALLY ILL.
I put together some great kits, and over the the past 15 years or so, I've tried too many supplements, herbs, OTC meds, prescription meds, at-home tests, beverages, snacks, self-care stuff, etc....
I think I can do it better than some of the "women's health" and urinary care companies out there *smirk* - because, as I have been learning, my neurodivergent special interest includes my own disability, and I read a lot of academic articles lol. And I talk to other people suffering from similar symptomatology - so while it's not "clinically based"... I don't think my expertise has any less merit. Sometimes it's about the awareness that if you're having an ailment, there may be non-invasive things you can do before you can get yourself to be seen by a healthcare provider.
Amidst the pain and illness, a lot of disability care is self-care, self-soothing, strengthening your body... and prevention as well!
