This might suck to hear, but if you're a people pleaser that is motivated by praise and avoids disagreements, you are easy to manipulate.

When I was in therapy after surviving years of domestic violence, my therapist had to tell me that my personality was primed for abuse and we needed to work on that so I would be better equipped to see the red flags and respond appropriately in the future.

I'm still working on this, and it's been 8 years. If you tell someone how you want to be treated, what behaviors you don't tolerate in your life, what you're looking for in that relationship, and they react negatively, don't compromise yourself. Just move on.

We all know existential dread, but I propose (and please tell be if this is already a thing) existential awe.

Sometimes when I handsew or weave or something I get this immense feeling of connection to humanity. People for thousands of years all over the world have sat down and sewn a garment. Archeologists find needles and awls all the time. When I'm tablet weaving I have the same frustration at the arduous process of threading the tablets as the person 2600 years ago must have felt when they made the bands that were found in a celtic man's burial mount not far from my home. They probably also felt their back after a few hours of this.

I had these growing up in small town Canada, but we called them ‘Screamers’.

They’re a bit rare nowadays but I’ll sometimes track down and a cross street with McDonald’s and 711 on the corners and get a small soft serve from McDonald’s, walk across the street and get a slushie from 711, then Frankenstein it myself. Does the trick!
