Inspiration: Christina in Red - 1913 Colour Photography
Wednesday 29th April
I’m in love with these early 20th century photos taken in 1913.
Thought to be some of the earliest colour photographs, the stills depict a girl called Christina posing along the Dorset coast.
Taken by her father, Mervyn O’Gorman, the amateur photographer used a process known as autocrome using glass plates coated in potato starch.
The technique was still relatively new and only patented 10 years earlier by the Lumier Brothers in France.
The photos are so vivid and clear its hard to believe they are over 100 years old.
There are no further details on the life of Mervyn’s daughter Christina, adding further to the beautiful mysterious quality of the pictures.
