Saw the tags and I will GUESS that the person talking about autistic Villefort was me. I've never seen anyone else talking about Villefort being autistic, at least when I was active.

But yes, it is something I considered. The way he is careful, around group of people, sometimes almost seeking approval and following expressions of people around him. Sometimes being impatient with establishing control over what is being said, trying to dominate the conversation.

When he is distressed, he is noticeably less capable of filtering what he is talking about. Especially when it is correcting people (mon ami, nobody asked, stop talking about specifics of your dad's position in the Empire /joke). And a lot of it does come from his surroundings. He is in a society that will inspect his every word and use lack of diligence from him to misinterpret and weaponize misinterpretation against him (he even directly acknowledged this in the book). But autism doesn't exist in vacuum, without effects of surrounded, and his autism doesn't present in the same way as it is often presents (I want to add "...in a modern population of autistics" but I cannot access how appropriate it is rn, it's 3 am here and English is not my native language).

Not to say that it is possible for those traits to be both due to autism and the surroundings: autism just sets possible paths of development but presentation itself isn't always strictly inborn thing present and unchanged from childhood.

Also it IS very transgender of him.

wait i forgot i had a more genuine thought abt him i wanted 2 post. i think it is interesting the way the writing constantly notes the way he reads the room very carefully when he is around a group of people. to measure his impressions and worth to any conversation etc... it really shows how one's public/political image is so important to maintain in that ruthless atmosphere.

Honestly, I kinda feel desire to rant, since the entire purpose of this acc is to hide our emotions under a mask of being not serious. And because that also means we can just post our thoughts since our account doesn't really have any thematic but something vaguely related to tcomc and Villefort.

Like, we could rant about Villefort being autistic, or gifted, or having high support needs. Or something about our fictive Villefort. And no one would care that we're saying something weird or being radical Villefort apologists (jk we are very uncomfortable with this phrasing, even though we're the one who just made it).

But, tbh, we have very bad mental health, so maybe later.

To be honest, I do feel resentment towards allistic and neurotypical people when they try to interpret Villefort.

There is something almost unnatural to me to how they see him.

That said, I'm not quite sure what to do with this resentment or how to think about it.
