okay, so, I actually have a compulsion to make characters short because I guess being short is kind of my insecurity, and I guess I have this need to prove that "hey, short people can kickass too".

Since, I don't know why, there seems to be a trend that when a character is strong/intimidating/has been genetically modified to be a super soldier or something, they are usually super tall, and there is no option to be short (Not the case of your game, btw, like it makes sense here because they are DRAGONS, and besides you do give us the option to be short).

It's like in a lot of IF, strength/power is associated with height.

Anyway, all this rant to say that I'm making a tiny menace. Beware the tiny dragon lol

dev log - april 28 2024

good evening...everyone.....here to report that this guy IS DONE THEIR FINALS AND IS BACK HOME. meaning i will be working on Vanguard much more frequently <33 it was a crazy year for me, and i am so glad to be back home man wow i don't know if it's legal to have five finals but who knows. i've had lots of ideas for what i want to accomplish this summer, so i thought i'd just give a general update on where i'm at/what's really going on since Vanguard has been sitting woefully in the corner of Twine for like four months (mostly) untouched.

IN PROGRESS - hope to complete by the end of summer latest

character voice claims / head canons! think i've mentioned this briefly (maybe), but i've been slowly compiling voices i think fit the VG bunch. i still have Charles, Vio, and Kiera to go, and i need to find a better voice for Vera. but. stay tuned.

reworking the entirety of the game formatting. this includes fixing font colours to be more readable, revamping the character creation, and solving the mystery of why on EARTH the sidebar covers the screen on mobile.

💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they’re in love?

Cirrus: oh GOD they are so obvious and they know it. very very noticeable if they love you; will straight up just tell you if the circumstances are right. honestly Cirrus' platonic love and romantic love isn't too different. he just. is like 100x more affectionate and will NOT let go of you ever. definitely a PDA kind of guy.

Vera: kind of coy about having crushes; if she thinks there's a sliver of a chance of you liking her back, you probably won't even know she has one. but if she knows the feeling is mutual..? lots of teasing. when she's in love she becomes kind of stupid..she will defend you like a lawyer even if you're in the wrong. fiercely loyal.

Nia: tries not to be obvious...but she is SO obvious. gets so flustered she just keeps talking and talking...and talking. you will 100% know if she has a crush on you. she still gets all flushed even if you're in a long term, loving relationship with her. she loves buying/collecting things for you, even if it's something small like a pretty flower she pulled from the castle gardens.

Emilio: he thinks having a crush is one of the most torturous things that could happen to him. he's also pretty noticeable, although it kills him whenever someone points it out. straight up you'll have to kiss him to convince him that you also like him back. when he's in love he gets significantly more relaxed around you, and touch comes easy. becomes much more comfortable, and communication comes easier to him.

Charles: in denial. heavy. HEAVY. denial. he will hide this crush even if it kills him. makes up a thousand excuses to convince himself he doesn't have a crush on you. if he's in love, he'll treat you like the most precious thing in the world. always wants you to be in his space, even if it means napping on his shoulder as he quietly works in his lab.

🔧 WRENCH - are they good at fixing relationships? or do they tend to avoid doing so?

OH I LOVE THIS QUESTION?!?!?

Vera: she's had her fair share of relationships, probably the most experienced out of the bunch. she's acutely aware of how much miscommunication fucks things up, so she's learned to let go of her ego to talk things out when a relationship isn't looking the best. i would say she's a solid 8.5/10. she's not very patient though so best believe that she won't beat around the bush.

Emilio: never had to fix relationships himself; never been in one. poor guy. he's kind of bad at communicating (he knows this and hates it about himself) and will sometimes shut down if under pressure. he'll try his very best by prodding you to bring up a topic. be gentle with him. he's a 6/10 but 10/10 for the the effort.

Charles: sorry to the Charles lovers he's REALLY FUCKING DIFFICULT LMFAO he grew up in a household where his hobbies/passions were not appreciated and gets extremely defensive when criticized. most likely will be the avoidant type when things aren't going well, and will start retreating into himself. it's something he needs to work on. 4/10 oops.

Cirrus: Cirrus is devoted to his loved ones. you bet that he will do anything in his power to correct mistakes, mend relationships, and fix whatever he can. absolutely a 10/10. spouse material. they place their relationships, platonic or romantic, above their duty as a monarch. is this good for the people around them? yes. is this good for their job? hm. maybe not so much.

Nia: unfamiliar with navigating relationships, and tends to blame herself if she realizes something isn’t quite right. she’s trying her best you guys. gets a little frantic and wants to solve issues as soon as possible, rather than letting a snowball effect take place. will try her best to empathize and come to a mutual agreement on how to proceed in the relationship. hmm she’s like a 7.5/10.

honestly you could negotiate with any one of the ROs to switch positions. Vera would be the most stubborn to switch but she's stubborn in every situation anyways LOL

my god...posting three times in a row..!?! realized i never actually acknowledged the fact that Vanguard actually has two title pages. this was the first title page i drew, but never ended up using it because the QUALITY LOOKS SO BAD UGH still really liked how it turned out, nevertheless. please accept more Vera food while i finish my last final exam in a few days ARGHHHH

edit: now that i'm looking at it...the quality isn't THAT awful..hmm...thinking thoughts of maybe having a randomized splash screen each time you play VG...,,,if i learn how to code . That. Hmm.

if i'm 5'6 (nearly) irl, do i go for short or avg in fae options?

it's up to you! but if you'd like advice: as a rule of thumb, you can add a foot onto your actual height to make your equivalent faering height. so you'll be 6'6, which makes you "average" height. you definitely don't have to follow this at all, but it's somewhere to start!
