It's always so funny to me because if you just look at current lestappen you seemingly have sweet angel - faced pr princess Charles and then supposedly aggressive mad Max, who's terrible but has a soft spot for Charles and has "calmed down in recent years" and if anything Charles befriended Max rather than the opposite.

But if you actually look at their history and personalities you realise that Max is a bit of a socially - awkward person who just wanted to befriend Charles and believed in their shared success, while Charles is a terror that was thinking up 500 different ways to be rid of Max before reaching 18

Max is much better than me because if I’d spent my youth being outwardly terrorised by this close to feral opponent who I still maintained great respect and admiration for only for a great PR campaign to be run to make it seem like it was the OPPOSITE growing up I would probably bite something.

its been a year since the "inchident" and tensions are still high on track... just two races earlier, max is forced to retire after pushing charles into the grass so hard that it causes his already struggling gearbox to fail. charles' team, artgp, decries the maneuver on track as "unfair" via a press release titled "ART Grand Prix stronger than adversities". (meanwhile, charles' fansite decides uses slightly more flavorful language in its own race summary... describing the move as "incomprehensible," simply scandalous" and "shameful" while appealing for officials to do a better job of penalizing dangerous moves. max's site ignores the race entirely, leaving no summary to memorialize his team's take on what happened in sarno. it makes sense: its a lone bad race for the dutch driver in an otherwise dominant season.)

ironically, the cik-fia would start the next race weekend the two attended in wackersdorf with a conversation to all competitors about sportsmanlike behavior.

things may not be as dire as they originally seem, however. charles and max might be ignoring each other on the podium, but they're still friends on facebook: max apparently leaves a comment-- deleted as part of his early f1 social media account purge-- on charles' post about the race.

i thrive on delusion but i was wondering, about the whole max following a charles fan account after val d'argenton, do you think twitter had the feature then where if you follow an account you get suggested follows (one of them possibly that account) and you get to follow all by clicking one button? would still be a bit incriminating still Lmaoo

and this doesn't surprise me either if he decided to follow the account to keep track of charles. reminds me of last year when charles was caught having max' points on his lock screen 😭

The first piece of Lestappen lore I ever witnessed the live meltdown of was Charles being caught with Max’s points on his lockscreen. What a time. I think it would’ve been less incriminating for Max to just be his phone background tbh….

You could be right about the multiple follow feature (also slight correction: as a couple of people have pointed out to me because I got it wrong too, it was actually about a month before Val d’Argenton occurred!), I do wonder also whether Max just followed….everyone’s fan accounts and we’ve only found evidence of the Charles one because we went looking for it. Selection bias and all that!

Lestappens one sided beef is giving one of those reddit posts titled smth like-

"TIFU by finding out that apparently me and my academic rival have been dating for the past 10 years"

"In my defence I 25M just thought that we were in a really intense fight to get that scholarship and didnt consider the fact that all of those 'intellectually nourishing' outings we had were just... dates'

AU where Max never publicly dates until one day he mentions “my boyfriend Charles” in an interview after his third championship win and everyone, Charles included, has a category 5 meltdown. Silvia locks Charles up in Maranello while Charles protests “I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW WE WERE DATING”. A follow up interview with Max has him saying that they’ve been together for years. Chaos ensues.

Pure speculation, but I reckon not. I think Charles is the proactive petty one who does the unfollowing and Max just kind of…..more reactive and goes with the flow.

Max didn’t follow that Charles fan account after the inchident, it was before Val d’Argenton, after 1st round in Sarno (where Charles won but Max had a bad race, then Jos abandoned Max at a gas station).
