Look I’m just saying if people want America to stop getting involved in global conflicts maybe stop killing their people and attacking their stuff? It’s a consistent pattern. America chills on the couch, conflict is happening over the ocean, they notice but say “not my problem” then some dingus with a gun decides to shoot something or someone that belongs to America, America gets up and says “now you made it personal”
Then everyone says “why do they always get involved?!” Like bitch, you just shot at us! The most memed rule in American diplomacy is “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” you take Americans hostage and then kill them, that’s an act of terrorism and you’re cooked along with anything you hide behind.
During 9/11 we lost 3,000 Americans to a terrorist attack and then proceeded to spend the next 20 years blowing everything to dust trying to find the people who did it and never lost 3,000 more Americans.
9/11 America was trying to be neutral and stay out of the conflict best they could until Japan blew up an American shipyard. They then tore ass through Europe, taking the long way around to Japan and came up with several creative solutions to destroy the Japanese until settling on nukes.
America has been a country for somewhere around 200 years and has been at peace for 50 years total. Just because they hung up the military cap and sat down doesn’t mean they can’t stand back up.

Just to be clear are you referring to the actors, directors and writers themselves or the fictional characters? Because if it’s for the former then you’re right, you have no power over actual people. If it’s a fictional character then you literally can make them do or be whatever you want. They have no will, no identity outside of what you assign to them and they have no sense of responsibility because they’re NOT REAL.
I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:
Fictional characters are objects.
They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

I remember someone describing Caine as both a reference to Cain from the Bible and Demiurge. Caine being the first murderer, who’s both deceptive and untrustworthy and the Demiurge which is a Gnostic Belief that even though God made the world he’s ignorant to anything above himself and callous to the things below him, treating everything as essentially a toy. Caine controls everything in this world except the people even if he gives them a form, he manipulates them and runs them through his games, while being almost entirely ignorant of their own feelings and thoughts. He doesn’t feel sad when someone is Abstracted, he just tosses them in the cellar with every other victim and goes about his day, he knows everyone is fixated on an exit but doesn’t know what to put on the other side because he doesn’t understand anything beyond his own world. He knows theirs Offices but that’s all he knows. His world is a purgatory from which theirs no escape and Caine is helping in the only way he knows how which isn’t much because the only person he really understands is himself.
The company C&A is probably Cain and Able
I was expecting him to be totally sadistic, cruel, and uncaring towards the other characters as the "ringleader", but I think he's just as much of a victim of circumstance as the rest of them are and has no real control over whether or not they can actually leave. He did try to make an "exit" for them to leave because he knows they all want to go, but he just couldn't think of what to put at the "end" which makes me wonder if he even can actually let them leave.
Tumblr media
Yes he is the "ringleader" and the one who controls this Digital Circus, but it's probably like he can control it but he was also put in there by some unknown force and has to get them all out by playing to the rules of the world around him. A really interesting subversion of the ringleader trope actually because you can kind of tell the other characters don't resent him or really blame him for them being there.
I think the "Digital Circus" itself is the real thing that's in control over all of them and Caine just has the ability to not really be affected by what it does.

Seriously. I don’t know what people think protests and hashtags will do. TBH it may sound heartless but it’s honestly not our problem. We’re not in the Israeli or Palestinian Armies, we’re not a part of their government. It’s out of our hands and nothing we say or do will change it. This whole conflict was YEARS in the making and not one person cared up until this moment. Tensions could have been cooled with Third Party diplomacy but no one cared.

Regardless I’m not sure how this is Disney’s fault. It sounds like she had a horrendous wardrobe malfunction. Sounds like they’re in as much fault for her injury as Levies would if some dude got his junk caught in a Zipper.
Unless theirs a part of this story I’m missing it doesn’t sound like their fault.

@wet-paiint @bluespacegoat
you’re not far off. Theirs a few articles I’ve seen that discuss how the collapse of social media is likely a good thing. Because it wasn’t until sites like Facebook and Twitter got big that people just started to mentally crumble. Look at the hellscape that is Twitter. The anxiety, constantly walking on eggshells, the need to argue and out do everyone, death threats are normalized, and no one can take even the slightest mean word thrown at them. Social media consumers are mental wrecks.
Human Brains are weird to comprehend and process about 100 people, that’s like the limit of out tribe. Any more than that and it just becomes mentally taxing. That’s why we unite under imaginary common factors like states, countries, political groups and stuff like that. We don’t interact with every single person in those groups but still get that feeling of community regardless. Throwing yourself onto the Internet and letting that consume your identity is just not healthy. You don’t have the mental or emotional bandwidth to be assaulted by hundreds of strangers every single day. Even for celebrities back before social media they were public mysteries for the most part which added to the mystique. Their was no platform where they could spew their every belief and thought on a routine basis and no way for the reactions of their audience to be funneled directly back to them. Their was an information barrier that just doesn’t exist anymore and it’s fucking people up.
developing a theory that goes a little like: being famous is basically overwhelmingly bad. it's seen as good because it's been historically associated with wealth and power because the nature of mass media meant that it has historically only been available to the wealthy and powerful and those they patronize. however the internet has invented for the first time the ability to be famous without any of the attendant money or power, which has broken a lot of people's brains badly

The OP is a perfect example of “false patterns” it’s a pure coincidence but one that you can make a compelling case for. It’s the same logic conspiracy theorists use.

It’s such a weird paradox those sorts of people live in. They’re empowered yet everything is hurtful, everyone is stupid yet theirs always some large organization of systemized oppression, they want to be both the victim and the champion. Some people are just careless or basic jerks. Not everything is hyper targeted. If their egos are that fragile that someone making fun of your hobby can tear you down then that something for them to work on, no one else needs to change except for the person that got offended.
People making fun of me for owning tarot cards is not a real problem. This is not an axis of oppression. It is not "rooted in misogyny" or "denying a rich history" it is fundamentally not a problem. If anything, they're right. Tarot cards are kinda cringe. I'm an adult. My haircut is cringe. Who cares.

The more they change the more they stay the same
I noticed something for a while but it finally clicked for me. This is an observation as a millennial primarily but this could be a learning moment for younger generations. Anyone remember when we were kids and their were uptight adults that treated everything we enjoyed like it was spawned from Satan and used the word “evil” so much it just became noise? We’re repeating that in our generation as well. It’s easily seen on Twitter but I see it everywhere especially on this site. Except this time it’s not right wing adults, it’s left wing. The amount of things in pop culture people just enjoy and then this Moral Police show up and shame us for liking something and calling it evil. Video Games, Books, Anime, even tabletop games. Theirs a video circulating on YouTube that makes fun of this called “Twitter discovered Warhammer 40k” I love Warhammer if you couldn’t tell by my name so when I see all this dumb moral panic over how evil it is and you shouldn’t play it me along with most of the fanbase say “yeah, of course it’s evil! It’s Warhammer!” The entire setting is a dark and depressing future where authoritarianism wins out and theirs no chance of peace. Every group in the setting is some shade of evil, that’s the whole point.
They say politics is a pendulum. For one generation it swings one way and then as time goes on it swings the other and it’s being observed that generations after us are leaning more towards the right. The reason for it is stuff like this. When the Left is in power the kids will see every flaw in how left wing politics operate, as a result most of them will start moving to the right because they see what’s not working. Then it’s the same when the Right are in power. The preachy controlling adults who are perpetually in a state of moral outrage are the spokesperson for future generations of why they should oppose your political views. Things didn’t change and you became what you hated. You became stuffy adults who police fun and force your beliefs on children who resent you for it.

If I’m being honest as an American I’m flattered even if it’s cringe. The fact theirs a fanbase for a slice of your culture or history just means something. It does the heart proud that someone from across the water looks at someone else’s culture and says “that’s shit is hype as hell!”
I feel weird for being... well, a westaboo. A classical westaboo, actually, I'm an Asian man weirdly obsessed with American popular culture even though I'm not American. I feel weird about this because westaboos suck and I'm one of those shithead westaboos.
it's kind of hard to avoid usamerican pop culture, especially with the way the modern internet works, but even if that weren't the case, it's more than fine to enjoy the things that make you happy

I want this to be true but the skeptic in me is having a hard time.
I’m about to have a fun afternoon.
So my trainer’s bf cheated on her. She broke up with him. He’s holding her stuff hostage until she agrees to talk with him. Which she refuses.
She trains; for free mind you; three college linebackers, a college wrestler, two martial artists, a body builder, and… wait for it…. a Navy seal. We’re gonna go get her shit for her.
This should make for an interesting story.

Vandal knocked Earth out of orbit and more of the planet died as it drifted further from the sun. After a while he was all that was left and he made a hobby out of preserving what humanity made. He also figured out how to grow crops on a planet sized asteroid that is now Earth.
Something about the Immortal villain succeeding in their plan only to be the only sentient being on the planet that just hits so raw.
Yes they did it. They accomplished their goal, but now they are just sitting on a rock floating in space in which they can’t do anything but reflect on their actions.
Some just sitting and wallowing in their success, left purposeless not even willing to continue as they have achieved their ambition and it’s pointless, others wondering how to escape to another time or another place but can’t seem to get there because of the limitations set by being the only person there. Maybe a few actually reflect on their action and decide to reform, accepting they may have screwed up but they can at least use this time to atone for their misdeeds.
But in the end, they are simply alone on a desolate rock floating in space. A true moment of be careful what you wish for. As not even death is there to be a mercy
