The Sketch-Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.
By Washington Irving
Published by The F.M. Lupton Publishing Company
This is my oldest book that I own but it is far from the rarest
The F. M. Lupton Publishing Company was known for republishing older works with cohesive covers for personal or commercial libraries. You can find more popular titles published with this same cover- it was an easy and cheap way to get literature. This book, for example, was in a hotel!
Dating this book was a pain because it doesn't have a date inside- BUT upon researching I found that the cover, publishing name, and address help holding down a date for this book.
Firstly the cover, the cover starts out date around 1901-. This was one of the later covers adorned with gold and colorful ink
Next, the name of the publishing company changed in 1902 to Federal Book Company and the addressed changed in 1902 as well.
Dating this book to be from 1901-1902 which it's quite cool :D
The content is nothing too interesting- it's a collection of short stories. The only story I know of from this work is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow- although I've never read it.
Pictures and references below!

Five Plays of SHAKESPEARE
Copyrighted 1926 by Harcourt, Brace, and Company, Inc.
I got this one alongside Personal Hygiene Revised at a Thrift shop!
It's a literature text book containing the plays
Merchant of Venice
As You Like It
Julius Caesar
Macbeth
Hamlet
Nothing too fancy to say about the content! It's just Shakespeare plays for student consumption!!
The interesting quirks about this book that drew me to it is the writing on the inside!
(I haven't censored anything because that defeats the purpose also this book wasn't originally near me)
As would anyone while reading Shakespeare for school, the inside is filled with doodles & signature practicing. Also! This book was owned by someone who graduated in 1931! (Also 1932-1933)
Pictures below!!

Personal Hygiene Revised
By Frank Overton
Copyrighted in 1913 by Frank Overton
Later Republished by American Book Company (More on that later)
I got this book at a Thrift Shop! It was one of the first of my collection and kick started this interest!
The book was owned locally (which is why there are blocked out writing) in 1930 by a 6th grader!
It's a text book regarding personal hygiene and is focused towards boys specifically. I truly haven't had the time or drive to read it front to back BUT!
I did notice something in the section Stimulants And Narcotics. It refers to the negativity of "strong drink" and mentions that it is illegal. With this information I realized that the book was originally written by Frank Overton but when the 18th Amendment was instated the book was revised by the American Book Company to include references to the Prohibition. Due to not having the un-revised version I do not know if the negativity towards alcohol was original.
I've attached pictures below! Let me know if you have any questions! I can look throughout the book to fact check content of biology and sickness!
(Ps. It also has some Christmas stamps :o)
