Weaving a Silo !?

🌱 at Rhs Chelsea.. on ‘The Resilience Garden’ ,designed by Sarah Eberle for Forestry England. “Yes.” Says Hare .

Another opportunity to work alongside the wonderful Sarah Eberle on a show garden .Remember the Artisan garden in 2015 for Breast cancer charity ‘The Haven’ with The Giant Oak leaf Seat?(link below , but read on first !)

🌱This time.. on main avenue, my brief was to weave the interior of an old grain silo .What would become a Garden Studio in her Gold Medal (hot of the press news) ‘Resilience Garden’ 2019.

Marking 100yrs of Foresty and highlighting the need to diversify tree planting .The garden also prompts conversations around biosecurity , for the protection of our future landscapes .

The weave itself was quite challenging , how to pin back to the cylindrical walls of the silo ,without to much extra steel work and clutter .

My solution was to tap in to the existing bolts with a pre-fab’d fixings , something to get purchase behind and to create tension in the weave .

The movement suggests a vine or similar that has taken root and climbed its way through the corregated silo walls , wrapping light fixings,window and door frames .

The Garden is an Absolute Triumph.

Baskodenn• A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending a course ran by The most excellent François Desplanches .

We focused on a basket from Brittany that traditionally was used for measuring and transporting sardines .

François is a patient, knowledgeable and highly skilled basket maker , he teaches very precise techniques and a selection process that has been a great inspiration to me .

I hope he returns next year to show us all some more :) Thank you François! His website link is below …

The Fox & The Hare Sculptures were designed for 🌱 Seedlip - The worlds first distilled non-alcoholic spirits .

They had a specific job to do in London at multi locations during Dry January .

The challenge here was to create something large enough for drama ,to engage their audience whilst still be easily manoeuvred, installed and de-rigged in and around London’s major tube stations , with no ground fixings allowed!

The sculptures stand 3.5meters tall and the heads and bases are removable from their individual stem for storage and transportation.

I am slightly in love with the 🌱Seedlip brand so problem solving and finally making the pieces was a joy , although saying goodbye to Mr & Mrs Fox was tough gig .🦊

Gills completed today for Rhs Jardin Blanc Fungi . This is the underside of a 3.5m tall parasol mushroom , the canopy is 2.5m diameter . There will be an installation of 3 stages of growth at the Chelsea flower show ,woven in stripped fresh white Willows .
