Uhhhh anyway I don’t think anyone who dislikes Elain is misogynistic simply for disliking or not being interested in Elain, but I will say that I HAVE seen some exceptionally problematic takes SURROUNDING the character that make me question your way of thinking.

And a shitty take that I’ve seen from Elriels is that her story is going to revolve around choosing Lucien or Azriel. Like…you seriously want her entire character arc to revolve around which man she’s choosing? Talk about self-insert.

I’ve ALSO seen Elriels who want to turn Elain into a spy or a warrior and want her to basically be Nesta, and other Elriels who want Elain to “cure” Azriel of his shadows and pain (yuck purity culture), and let me just say the influence of booktok is staggering, and it’s terrible. Also, the way it drags on women who exhibit typically feminine traits and fulfill typically feminine roles is awful. These kinds of characters always seem to generate the hate of fandoms too.

I’ve also seen some anti-ICs blame Elain for “locking up Nesta” and I have to defend my girl here, SHE DIDN’T DO ALL THAT. CAN WE PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS ON THE IC INSTEAD OF ELAIN. ELAIN HAS NO POWER THERE.

Yes, Elain said some questionable things in ACOSF. Sjm had a…weird way of having Elain show her claws, which I blame more on SJM than the character. But let’s not pretend like Nesta and Elain aren’t BOTH being mean to EACH OTHER like normal siblings.

Also, Eluciens ARE interested in Elain’s journey as an individual, and we see Lucien as the perfect companion on that journey of growth and self-realization.

Oh god, I haven't been to an aquarium in years... probably like seals..? I always go out of my way to find otters and penguins at zoos does that count?
