15 Oft Forgotten Facts About Homestuck's Trolls
- Trolls are nocturnal. Due to their sun’s intense brightness and heat, trolls rarely go out at night. Some however, such as Kanaya, can stand sunlight and will operate somewhat diurnally.
- Troll society is, in human terms, matriarchal. The females of the species, mother grubs, are revered and protected by the humanoid males, and castes that are in human terms feminine hold the most important roles of leading society and caring for the aforementioned mother grubs.
- Trolls have no concept of gender affecting sexuality, making them all, again in human terms, bi/pan. However, Beforans (if not all trolls) do have concepts of asexuality and aromanticism, separated out by quadrant.
- Most technology in troll culture is based in organic networks, using specialised grubs and other creatures in place of circuits.
- Most trolls have sharp teeth, and their diets consist mostly of various types of grubs and insectoid creatures, judging from their food terms.
- Recuperacoons are Alternia exclusive, and were created to protect trolls from the nightmares that plague their species ehile they sleep. This is not normal and Doc Scratch is to blame. Possible explanations for the nightmares are Gl'bgolyb (any emissary to the horrorterrors), Purpleblood chucklevoodoos, or species-wide trauma; nothing was confirmed by canon.
- Yellowgreen blooded trolls are oppressed on both worlds. On Beforus, they were treated as lesser peoples and insulted with the “Lime” slur, and on Alternia they were eventually wiped out. What powers they possessed is still unknown, but whatever they were posed a threat to purple bloods.
- Troll horns are not made of bone, and extend from holes in the top of the skull, allowing for the wide variation in horn shapes we have seen. Their hair grows around their horns with no problem.
- All troll skin is silvery grey, regardless of blood color. Color only shows when blushing. Additionally, all of their bodily fluids seem to be tinted their blood color.
- Trolls have 48 zodiac signs, and likely divide sweeps up into 48 sections. This is about 16.5 Earth days per division.
- Trolls’ fingernails are colored like their horns. This suggests it may be made of the same material.
- Most trolls have black lips naturally. Some, such as the Megidos, do end up with blood colored lips naturally (without makeup), but this is presumably rare.
- Another rare occurrance is blood colored hair, such as with Eridan’s tuft and thr Megidos’ eyelashes. It is unknown if this can affect a troll’s entire head of hair.
- Until adulthood, all trolls have slate-gray to black irises. Upon maturing (estimate 10 sweeps), they fill in with blood color.
- Alternia’s trolls are a warrior race. Most adults were out among the stars invading other worlds when they were suddenly killed by Gl'bgolyb’s psychic screams.

She is one of the few that can withstand the rays of the Alternian Sun and probably the only one that enjoys it
She’s into landscaping and topiary
This is also why she has chosen the chainsaw as her weapon
She enjoys horror and romance novels
She sleeps during the night
She was one of the few Jade Bloods left and was chosen and raised by the virgin mother grub, a rare event
She’s into fashion and design and lively colorful patterns just for the sake of it
She decorated her hive with plants and fabric as she gets inspired
She is a seamstress as much as she is a treetrimmer and lumberjack
She used to fantasize about being a rainbowdrinker, now she is one
Vriska used to be her Moirail but broke up with her after Vriska kissed Tavros
She tried her Lusus’s blood but didn’t like it
She has a wardrobifier, much like Jade, but it changes her whole outfit instead of just the symbol
She tries to help as best as she can and is called meddlesome, mostly by Vriska
She spied on Vriska because she believed she was dangerous and needed to be watched
She had a flushed crush on Vriska but denied it and wanted to get rid of the infatuation
She is sassy and snarky
She knew what would happen if they played the game from her cloud visions and Rose’s walkthrough
She idolized Rose before she met her
She was shocked and mad at Vriska for kissing Tavros
After, she gave Vriska the cold shoulder and ignored her for weeks, confusing Vriska
She rambles when she’s nervous
She tried to troll Rose, but ended up trolling John instead
Her opinion on Rose changed when she talked to John thinking it was Rose; she now believed that Rose wasn’t as smart as she had hoped
Her interest in Rose had piqued though and continued to spy on her and criticize her
She become Rose’s Patron Troll and was in a one-sided snark-off with her
She asked Dave for advice about becoming Rose’s friend
She was the assigned frog breeder for her session and helped Jade with her assignment as well
She was the keeper of the matriorb
Her dreamself had been awake since she met Doc Scratch when she was younger
Her Guardian was Doc Scratch
She made Eridan a wand
She was concerned about her appearing too Sarcastic
She had planned to hatch the matriorb in the meteor’s core, but Eridan destroyed it
She is usually an auspistice and mediator for her friends
She doesn’t like to be an auspistice, which implies that she does it because she cares about her friends and puts their happiness before her own
She executes decisions for the greater good regardless of the violence involved
She is not someone to mess with
She admires Porrim and finds her intimidating at first but they became fast friends
She had trouble controlling her glowing until Porrim showed her techniques, among other things
She is in a matespritship with Rose, and even when Rose dealt with her alcoholism, she still helped her as best as she could, showing how strong their relationship is
In the new timeline, nothing between them has changed except the absence of Rose’s alcohol problem
She buys the blood of her friends from Jane although she was ashamed of it and tried to hid it from Karkat
She has no trouble scolding people

Facts About Equius Zahhak
He was Vriska’s neighbor
He is skilled in robotics
He loves being strong and brags about his strength
He wanted to join the archeradicators but he sucks at archery as he tended to break the bow before shooting a single arrow
His tendency of breaking bows has become more of an addiction than mistake
He has an appreciation for fine arts; his favorite is nude musclebeast portraits and becomes furious when low bloods don’t appreciate them
He loves musclebeasts (horses) because they are strong
Everything made him furious because he had a lot of rage that can only be calmed through physical violence
He built strong and sturdy robots, set them to kill mode, and beat them to pieces in caged brawls
He would lose teeth in these brawls, but they would usually grow back
He loves lusus milk, especially with a thick foamy head on it
His lusus is named Arthour
He tries to be gentle but fails
He is Nepeta’s moirail
He is very protective and possessive of Nepeta
He thinks Nepeta doesn’t know any better and feels the need to make decisions for her
He made sure Nepeta was in the blue team with him
He likes games, but only if they are extremely important games with high stakes
He doesn’t believe animals are for killing or eating, but instead to be admired
He stopped Nepeta from partaking in extreme roleplaying (FLARP) for her safety
Routine calms him down
He talked to Gamzee everyday even though he despises him
He sweats profusely when placed in compromising situations or is filled with rage
He needs a lot of towels for this reason
He’s a firm believer in the blood-caste system and believes that those that are higher than someone can order that someone around
He likes being bossed around by those with a higher blood color than his
He doesn’t believe lowbloods and highbloods should fraternize
He believes highbloods are meant to be elegant and authoritative while lowbloods should be submissive and crass; any contradiction to this confuses him
He doesn’t like using profanity or what he believes is bad language
He comes off as weird and a snob
He tries to stay engaged with many aristocratic practices
He dabbled in slam poetry but they’re private and mostly about his fetishes
He was commissioned by Vriska to make Aradia’s robot and also built Vriska’s robotic arm
He double-crossed Vriska by delivering the robot to Aradia himself and then planned to double-cross Aradia to take over as leader for the blue team
He has an obsessive crush on Aradia and programmed her robot to have feelings for him
He didn’t recognize Karkat as the leader initially
He sometimes roleplays with Nepeta albeit badly
He admits that he would probably be more dangerous without Nepeta as his moirail
He is the only post-scratch troll that never attempted to murder someone

She was introduced as a ghost
When she was alive she loved archeology, but now she has no interest in it
She was able to hear the voices of the dead since she was young
When she was alive, she liked to play the extreme role playing game, Flarp, where she was a member of Team Charge with Tavros
She seems to be perpetually be bored as a ghost
She discovered the frog temple ruins in an archeology expedition
Her ancestors had instructed her to recover some mysterious technology from these ruins
She tricked Sollux into adapting the technology as the game, SGRUB
Her Fetch Modus was Ouija
As a ghost she was very ambivalent about everything and din’t really care about consequences because they needed to happen anyway
She has telekinetic abilities that were enhanced as a ghost
She wants Sollux to be happy and cares about him
As a ghost, she was okay with a lot of things
She is largely motivated by temporal inevitability and does things solely because she knows they will happen
Before she died, she was more enthusiastic and happier
Once she died, she finds pleasure in breaking things and only really shows emotion when breaking stuff is involved
As a ghost, she does not feel emotions to the point of forgetting how they feel like
As Aradiabot, she showed more intense feelings and was more expressive, especially of the violent variety
Equius programmed her robot to have romantic feelings for him, which she didn’t take well
She felt guilt over Tavros getting paralyzed by Vriska
To seek vengeance, she summoned spirits of the dead to haunt Vriska
She used to like Troll Indiana Jones
She has a whip and used the whipkind strife specibus
She died with her Lusus when a mind-controlled Sollux (by Vriska) ate mind honey and blasted her hive
She tried making her 0_0 emoticon smile by using 0u0 instead, but she thought it looked stupid
When she went godtier she finally felt truly alive
She found her “archeology hat” and crosbytop in the ruins
She’s sassy
She sacrificed her army of alternate selves to confront Jack while she transported the rest of the trolls to the veil
She wrote the other half of the code of team charge
She’s associated with death and corpses and is a death fangirl
She’s fascinated by funerals and calls them corpse parties and doesn’t see death as a horrible thing
She gets overexcited about her interests to the point where they make others uncomfortable
She blamed herself for her first death rather than blaming Vriska
She's kind and enthusiastic again once she reaches godtier, even about grim things
She is very knowledgable about the game, partly because she was once a sprite and because of her knowledge of the time stream
Along with Sollux, she gave the meteor the push it needed to start the meteor crew’s 3 year journey
She also offered to slow down Jack as best as she could so he wouldn’t catch up to the crew
She calls the kids guests and reprimands Sollux for making them uncomfortable and being hostile, even though she herself can be creepy
She’s sticking around to see when everything breaks apart and she’s enjoying herself
She’s currently with Sollux
She is most likely friends with Vriska again
She doesn’t have pointy teeth unlike other the other trolls
She’s done with dying

Homestuck breaks 1.2mil words
Amidst all the excitement of 4/13, and the end of the MICROTERAPAUSE, and Caliborn’s claymation Vines, I feel that we can’t forget something HUGE that just happened.
Homestuck, given its format, can’t have its word count measured by conventional means. That’s why some very smart folks designed an “adjusted word count” that more accurately counts by converting images and gifs and flashes into the neural-processing equivalent.
According to that, with tonight’s upd8, and the beginning of Act 6 Act 6 Act 5, Homestuck is currently at 1,201,136 words.
According to Wikipedia’s List of Longest Novels (in all languages), Homestuck would be in the #2 spot, and it’s quickly approaching #1.

Something I noticed on rereading
As we know, Jade’s Grandpa got killed when a well-meaning but ignorant Tavros communed with Bec to stop her from shooting herself. RIP Grandpa Harley.
Obviously, this weighs on poor little Jade quite a bit, and she speculated about what had happened to him.
She grew out of thinking that, of course, but she could have been barking up the right tree.
In the end, her grandpa really DID get killed by the evil blue girl.
