lily definitely referred to the marauders as her boys, the boys, these boys, just boys all the time.
and at first when she’d walk in a room like “there are my boys!” or “great my boys are here!” they’d all be like no evans we are independent we are MEN we are not BOYS we don’t belong to anyone we are a SOCIETY OF MEN
but eventually when she walked into the common room like “where are my boys?” they’d all instinctively just chime in “in here” and accepted their position as lily’s boys

woah holy shit so roosters are fatal to the basilisk, right? and a basilisk is born by a chicken egg being hatched under a toad. a rooster is a male chicken, which means that the basilisk’s father is, essentially, fatal to the basilisk.
hatching a chicken egg under a toad results in the birth of a monster.
the basilisk spends its life trying to escape its father and other roosters.
tom riddle speaks parseltongue, just like the basilisk. he is able to communicate with them—shares a certain connection with them.
do you see the symbolism here?
tom riddle was conceived under the influence of a love potion, and because of this, a monster was born.
like the basilisk, tom riddle spent his whole life trying to escape his father, and those like him. muggles.

Remus Lupin’s belongings were boxed up neatly and stored in Harry’s attic. On a rainy autumn day, 10 year old Teddy was exploring, seeing what he could find when he stumbled upon the box labelled ‘Remus’. He delved in, carefully pulling out individual jumpers, each with several holes in them, accompanied by their own specific smells. Remus’s Gryffindor house sweater was on top, reeking heavily of smoke with undertones of mint from his friends’ smoking habit, badly covered up with a lot of chewing gum. Next was a cardigan with a list in one pocket and a receipt in the other. The list was a shopping list for a bookstore and the receipt was for a small cafe he liked to go to in his years alone. Another one was very neatly folded and smelt of soap, however a few, stray red hairs gave away the tale behind this one. His time spent at Grimmauld Place with the Weasleys was not long, but no one managed to avoid Molly’s laundry days. Finally, a softer, newer, blue sweater was folded at the bottom. A few small milk stains and an overwhelming scent of roses - his mother’s favourite perfume - were the variations in this piece. Instantly, Teddy knew that this must be from their short time spent together, as a family. He packed all but one of the jumpers back into their box, along with several trinkets that Remus had gathered over time. One jumper caught Teddy’s eye though. A small, green sweater. It became his favourite item of clothing, even making its way to Hogwarts with him in his first year. Little did Teddy know that his father wore that exact sweater on his way to his first day in Hogwarts, eyes bright but with nerves consuming him. Many great adventures ahead of them both.

Hello, My Deer
You'd think that a magic school full of extremely powerful witches and wizards would have some kind of barriers or enchantments in place to keep students out of forbidden places, right?
Well apparently not, as Y/N had discovered in her first year at Hogwarts, one could simply stroll into the forbidden forest with ease.
Which she did, many times over the years.
She found it was a good place to go when one wanted to be alone and undiscovered.
She wasn't stupid, she knew what kinds of dangerous creatures dwelled within the mass of trees and the rolling mists.
But she also knew that if she remained quiet and near the edges, she would be safe.
The girl had seen wonderful things in that forest, from centaurs to fairies and even a unicorn on one eventful trip.
Yet, as all children, she was tempted by that very same curiosity that had led her into the forest on that very first day. The curiosity to explore, to know more and to see everything.
It was this curiosity that took her deep into the forest one bright summer day, further than she'd ever dared to go.
The sunlight quickly disappeared as she delved into the mist that seemed to be a constant in the forest.
It wasn't until her stomach started growling and she'd turned around to go to lunch when Y/N realized her own foolish mistake.
She was completely and utterly lost.
Three boys exited the castle, one of them walking faster and with an angry air about him while the other two tailed along, trying to calm their friend.
"James! Mate, you're taking it too seriously!"
"PURPLE PADS! MY HAIR IS PURPLE!" The boy gestured wildly at his own hair which was a disastrous mess of black and pastel purple locks.
"It's really more of a lilac if you think about it."
"SHUT UP WORMTAIL!" The two other boys yelled in sync.
"I'm sorry! I didn't realize it would be so.... purple! Come back inside and we'll go ask McGonagall for the countercharm."
"Absolutely not! No one else is seeing this until I'm back to normal!" With that, he disrobed and turned into a magnificent, purple stag.
Peter let out a ridiculous shout of laughter at the sight, Sirius himself disguised his own laugh with a gravelly cough because before them, instead of James' usual brown and black deer, stood a bright purple stag, from its antlers to its hooves, everything was purple. The stag took one look at itself and wailed aloud.
"EVEN THE STAG IS PURPLE! THE STAG!" James/The stag yelled before cantering off into the forbidden forest.
"It really is more of a lilac, you're right Wormtail."
Y/N was wandering the dark foreboding forest, hopelessly searching for a way out when she tripped over a tree root and hit the ground hard.
"Freakin shit! This is such assatry!" She grumbled, glaring at the new rips on her favourite jeans, right over the knees.
A twig snapped nearby and the girl, forgetting her jeans, jumped to her feet and raised her wand.
"Who's there?" She called, already imagining scenes where acromantula burst from the trees and devour her, or centaurs would come in, arrows flying and slay her where she stood.
None of this quite prepared her for what did come from the woods, a creature that took her breath away. A graceful brown, black and purple stag that regarded her with boredom tinged with curiosity.
"Hello there," She whispered in awe, "you're beautiful."
The stag snorted and tossed its head as if to say 'of course I am, peasant.'
"Are you hungry, pretty?" She rummaged around in her bag and brought out a baggie of sugar cubes she saved for any run-ins with a unicorn or fairy.
The stag clopped over happily, stopping a few feet away and watching as Y/N scooped out a few and held them in the palm of her hand.
The girl watched in awe as this beautiful creature sniffed at her hand before gobbling up the sugar. "I'm gonna call you Pinkie." She smiled, giving the stag more sugar cubes. The creature huffed but ate the sugar cubes anyway.
"What are you? You look like an ordinary deer but you're….purple."
The deer huffed again and started snuffling at the remaining sugar cubes. "Hey!" She shoved the cubes into her bag and scolded the deer. "That's very rude you know, those aren't all for you."
The deer huffed again and started trotting away. "You can understand me! Wait up!" Y/N hurried after the strange creature. "Can you show me the way out? I'm lost."
It sighed and gave her an almost humanlike glare of annoyance before nudging her in a certain direction and walking that way.
As they walked Y/N couldn't help but reach out to touch the beautiful stag. Its fur was smooth and she could feel all the muscle hidden underneath.
It certainly was a powerful beast. As she watched its fur it occurred to her that the deer had been much more purple when she'd first seen it. "Hey pretty, have you been charmed?"
The deer huffed again and she took that as a yes. "I'll bet it was those rude Marauders, it seems just like something they'd do."
The stag made a rumbling sound that might've been… laughter?
"A-are you laughing?"
It stopped immediately, continuing its stroll while Y/N gazed at it in wonder, stroking her hand along its side.
"You know, I could change you back to the right colour. I'm sure I know the spell."
The stag stopped walking and turned to look at her hopefully. What a strange animal… She thought as she pulled her wand out and pointed it at the stag, who was looking at her with nothing but trust as the girl muttered the spell.
Soon enough the stag was free of all purple and his true colours of black and browns was revealed.
"You look like a normal stag, but you certainly don't act like one." The stag looked sheepish and continued to lead her.
"Ah, you've probably got your own magic just like everything in this forest."
It seemed to puff up with pride when she said this, something she'd seen someone do many times before.
"You remind me of a boy I know." She chuckled slightly, aimlessly tracing patterns over the stag's side. "James Potter, the 'most awesome guy in Hogwarts' as he's known. But he's really not all that, he's an arrogant swine if you ask me." She laughed. "Although, I can't deny that he can be sweet when he wants. I've never actually told anyone this but, on our first day here James found me sitting alone on the train, freaking out about Hogwarts because I came from a muggle family, no idea what's in store for me, ya know? He talked to me and made me feel better, I doubt he even remembers it but on that day I saw a different James Potter that no one else seems to see. Sometimes I see him without his friends, that horrid Sirius Black and little Peter Pettigrew, he's such a brown-noser, and he almost seems like that James that I met all those years ago..." Y/N stopped talking, a small smile on her face. When she realised that the deer was staring at her with an unreadable expression she chuckled. "You're right, I'm being weird, I guess I just hope he's still in there because I have a huge crush on that guy and it makes me sad that he doesn't let people see that part of him and I'm literally pouring my heart out to a random animal I found in the woods okay…."
The stag nuzzled her cheek and licked it. "EW THAT'S NASTY WHAT THE HELL, PINKIE!"
She wiped her cheek on her robe, ridding it of deer saliva and glaring at the animal that was somehow managing to look smug.
She was about to start complaining again when she noticed that they'd come to the edge of the forest. "You actually took me out of the forest! You really are magical." She patted the stag on its side. "Thank you, Pinkie, I'll come visit you again and bring more sugar cubes."
She started making her way to the castle but stopped upon hearing the sound of heavy footsteps behind her. She turned and saw the strange deer following her. When she stopped it tilted its head as if asking what was wrong.
"Pinkie, you can't come with me, go back to the forest."
"Well that's a bit rude, I really thought we were bonding back there." She blinked, certain that she'd just seen the stag say those words…
"…..did you just….. Talk?....." She stammered, eyes wide in shock.
"What, you never seen a talking stag before?"
That voice…. She could recognise it anywhere. It sounded exactly like the voice she dreamed about nearly every night.
"What are you…?"
The stag winked, of all things, and started… changing!??
Its legs turned into human arms and legs, its body shifting and shrinking into a bare chest and the head morphed into a human's head until before her stood a completely naked James Potter.
"MERLIN'S BEARD HIDE YOUR SHAME!" Y/N shrieked, spinning away from the boy.
"Your crush is standing in front of you completely nude and you don't want to hop on?"
Y/N felt her face heat up with the telltale blush creeping into her cheeks and was thankful for the fact that James couldn't see her face. "Fuck off, Potter."
"Accio clothes." The sound of fabric whacking him could be heard followed by a rustling. "Okay, I'm decent."
She turned around warily, muscles relaxing when she saw that he was, indeed, clothed now.
"So….." She started, bringing him to cock an eyebrow expectantly.
"So you're into me." He smirked.
"Yeah… pretty much." She shuffled nervously.
"Sweet." She looked up, surprised. "Well, I'm hot, you're hotter, it was bound to happen." He shrugged casually and started heading for the castle. "Hogsmeade tomorrow at 10, bring more sugar cubes."

America
Writing this was like 70% googling American terms, 10% progress and 20% caffeine...
"What even is a Hufflepuff..." Y/N wondered aloud, tugging at the uncomfortable yellow and black tie as she roamed the large, cold corridors of Hogwarts. She'd just left the Principal's office after being assigned her house and told where to go to find her classes.
Unfortunately, Y/N had never been good at following directions and soon enough found herself lost somewhere deep within the castle. She opened a door at the end of the hallway to find what seemed to be a tower of staircases.
"What the actual fuck is this school?" She stepped onto the staircase in front of her and started climbing when a strange rumbling sound stopped her in her tracks.
The rumbling continued as the staircase started to move?!
She screamed and ran back down to solid ground, crashing into the closed door at the bottom. Her bag slipped off her arm and fell to the ground, spilling open and spewing her new school supplies everywhere.
Loud laughter rang out from above and the girl looked up to see four boys sitting on the bannister of one of the moving staircases.
The four had obviously been watching her progress and found it to be the funniest damn thing in the world.
One of them, one with black hair and glasses, fell backwards off the railing amidst his laughter which only encouraged the others to laugh even harder.   Blushing furiously, Y/N grabbed her things and backed out of the tower, slamming the door behind her, too embarrassed to face the group on her very first day.
While she tried failingly to clear the ink stains from her brand new school books the door opened and the four boys streamed in, led by the tallest one, sporting brown hair and an amused look. The second one to appear was the black haired boy who'd fallen off the railing, his face still slightly red from laughing as he rubbed the back of his head. The third to follow also had black hair but it was slightly longer and better kept than his friend's. The fourth and final boy trailed behind the others, eagerly expecting more entertainment and gazing at the boy with the glasses with a look that was half admiration and half awe.
It was clear that glasses boy was the leader as he stepped forward and the others subconsciously gathered around behind him, one of them resting an elbow on glasses boy's shoulder while the other two stood on either side. The other black haired boy, the one who was leaning against glasses boy, seemed curious about the strange girl as if she was a new toy. The tall one looked on warily, almost like he expected something to go wrong. The short boy stared at the scene playing out, drinking in every move his leader made. It was clear to Y/N that this interaction would play a big part in deciding how the rest of her time at Hogwarts would go.
"Hi, I'm James Potter." Glasses boy gave Y/N a dazzling grin and held out a hand for her to shake. "Haven’t seen you here before."
"Y/N Y/L/N." She responded, taking his warm hand and shaking once. "I'm a transfer from Ilvermorny."
"Crikey, it's a Yank." The other black-haired boy commented in surprise.   "What's a Yank?" The smallest one whispered.
"She's an American." James answered without looking away from Y/N, an amused smirk playing on his lips as he took her in.
"An American who's lost. Can one of you please tell me how to get to..." She fumbled around in her bag before pulling out the now crumpled and blotted timetable. "Herbology?"
"Sure." The tallest boy stepped away from the group and offered a sweet smile that took her breath away. She'd never seen a boy who looked so... perfect. "Let's go before they decide to do something stupid." He teased and lead her away from the group (and the terrifying stairs tower). The remaining three boys whistled and called out after them. The tall boy beside her just rolled his eyes and kept walking.
When the others were out of sight and their calls faded away into silence the boy struck up a conversation as easily as if he were speaking to an old friend. "So, what brings you to England?"
Y/N, struggling to keep up with his long strides, barely heard him. "Sorry?"
He noticed her distress and slowed down to her pace before repeating himself.
"Oh, my grandpop bought the farm and left my folks his pizza chain here so dad decided to jump ship and we caught the first red eye over."
The boy frowned and looked at her. "I know that was all English but I have no idea what you just said... something about your grandfather buying a farm, sailing and getting red eye?”
Y/N took one look at his bewildered expression and laughed. "You're not even close. Pop died and mom and dad inherited everything so dad quit his job and we moved over here."
"Oh... sorry about your grandfather...”
She shrugged. "It's behind me. He was never more than a name on a card and a 50-pound note. 'Sides, thanks to him, dad made a killing on the pizza chain last month."
"Do all Americans speak so fast?"
"Do all Brits speak so slowly?" She countered, enjoying the short burst of laughter he let out at her response.
"No, just the boring ones sorry."
"I don't think you're boring."
"You'd be among the first." He chuckled. "Sorry about those idiots back there, James loves a chance to show off."
"I can handle a few slack-jawed kids like them." Y/N shrugged, rifling around in her bag to see what had managed to escape the inksplosion.
"Here, let me take a look at that." Remus reached over and slipped her bag off her shoulder with nimble fingers. He slipped his wand from his sleeve and pointed it at the bag. A few incantations later and it was clean and organized once again.
"You are a lifesaver! It's bad enough being the new kid but being the new kid with a completely trashed bag is a whole other shitshow." She took the bag from him and slung it back over her shoulder, taking care not to break her inkwell again. "I owe you one.”
The sweet smile he gave her was enough to turn her stomach into a mess of nerves. How unfair that she would have to have a crush on the first friend she'd made in this new school.
As they walked and the conversation went off topic Y/N found it more and more difficult to keep her eyes away from him.
She was entranced by the way he ran his hand through his hair every few minutes, almost as if he wasn't even aware of how good he looked doing it. Her eyes hungrily scoured his broad shoulders barely concealed under the thin fabric of his school shirt. She found herself gazing at the cute way his nose scrunched up and his eyes crinkled when he started laughing. And when he smiled down at her, a smile that lit up his eyes and sent her nerves into chaos, the grey and dreary English sky seemed brighter somehow.
They finally reach the greenhouses where he said the Herbology classes were usually held and she found herself not wanting him to leave. "Thanks.... I don't even know your name." She smiled sheepishly.
"My name's Remus. Remus Lupin. Good luck in your first class.”
With that, he turned and made his way back up to the enormous castle, completely unaware of Y/N watching his figure until he disappeared.
"Well fuck me.”
Morning classes passed by in a mix of whispered gossip and curious stares. By the time lunch rolled around Y/N had more than had enough of it. If she'd known British people were going to be so rude and obvious about their staring she'd probably have fought harder to stay at Ilvermorny.
After a gruelling hour of potions - in which she'd had a jar of bat blood spilt on her and then promptly been told off for using her wand to clean up the mess - Y/N followed the crowd to lunch, hanging back to avoid any more staring. Her first day at Hogwarts was proving to be even worse than anticipated and she was certainly dreading the idea of entering a massive hall filled with strangers only to embarrass herself once again.
"Hey, Y/N!" A familiar voice called out from behind. Y/N spun around to see Remus walking toward her with a breathtaking smile. She was suddenly aware of the fact that her hair was a mess from the earlier potions debacle and that she probably still smelled like bat blood but her relief at seeing a friendly face overruled her urge to run away and hide in the girl's bathrooms.
"Remus!" She breathed out in relief, stopping in her tracks and letting him catch up. "You're a sight for sore eyes!"
"Rough morning?"
"Hella rough." She sighed, letting him lead her to the great hall as she recounted her morning, stopping from time to time to explain her 'Yankee talk' as he put it.
They reach the hall and Y/N stared at the four long tables, crowded with students and food. Everyone seemed to know each other, she stuck out like a very sore and incredibly irritated thumb. "We eat in our houses," Remus explained and chuckled when he saw the horrified expression on her face. "But you can come sit with me until you make friends in your own house, if you'd like." He added quickly.
"Yes please." She whispered, not liking how people were already turning to stare at her. She heard the words bat blood floating around and felt her cheeks heat up, she knew how gossip and rumours spread in schools and didn't want to think about what people were already saying about her.
"Don't mind them," Remus said as he led her past the whispering people. "They'll get over it in a day or so." He stopped halfway down one of the tables and Y/N recognised James and the two other boys from earlier.
"I sure hope so." She muttered, sliding into the seat beside Remus and opposite one of his friends.
"Afternoon lads." Remus said, loading different sorts of meat onto his plate. "You remember Y/N, right?"
The three boys stared at Y/N and she stared back. "Can I help you?"
"People are looking..." The small, brown-haired boy whispered, eyes darting around as more and more people realised where the new girl was sitting.
"Let them stare, it's nothing you're not used to Wormtail." Remus chuckled.
"Wormtail? Is that your name?" Y/N asked, barely hiding her shock. "What kind of parents name their kid Wormtail and don't expect him to get pounded on daily."
James choked on his pumpkin juice as he tried not to laugh, which turned into a coughing fit that led to his face becoming a bright red. "Bloody Yanks." He spluttered, wiping away his tears.
"What?"
"That's Peter Pettigrew." Remus pointed at the mousy haired boy she'd mistaken for Wormtail. "You know James Potter." He indicated the red-faced boy with pumpkin juice dribbling down his chin. "And that's Sirius Black." The black haired boy opposite Y/N still hadn't stopped staring at her.
"Whatchu gawkin' at?" She challenged.
"I-what?" Sirius stutters, not quite understanding what she'd said.
"Why are you staring at me?" Y/N clarified with an eye roll.
"Hufflepuffs usually sit over there." Sirius pointed his thumb at a table where a few people in yellow ties like Y/N's were still staring at the strange new girl. "At the Hufflepuff table. This is the Gryffindor table, you can't sit with us."
Y/N blinked, completely unphased. "What are they gonna put me in the doghouse for sitting here? I mean come off it, forcing children to sit apart based on the colour of their tie? You know back in the States the No-Majes are rioting it out in the streets to end that kind of discrimination."
"I'm sorry?" James scrunched his face at the strange phrase. "Could you please speak English?"
"And what in Merlin's name is a No-Maj?" Sirius wondered.
"A No-Maj? A person without magic abilities?"
"You mean Muggles?" James said.
"What the hell is a Muggle? Sounds like some kind of gross disease."
"Muggles are what we call No-Majes." Remus clarified in a gentle voice.
"I like our word better."
"Your word is stupid." Peter snapped, clearly not liking the new addition to their group.
"Stand down Wormtail. She's cool." Sirius said, ruffling Peter's hair affectionately and shooting Y/N a wink.
"Pads, stop hitting on her." Remus snapped, making the other boys look at him in surprise.
"I wasn't-"
"Leave it." James interrupted his friend, eyes on Y/N. "Welcome to Hogwarts, America."
A month passed and Y/N was completely accepted into this strange group of boys. New gossip circulated nearly every week about this girl who'd somehow found her way into the Marauders' tight little circle.
People were constantly asking her which one of them she was dating, to which she'd always respond with the name of whichever one of the boys was closest which created a lot of confusion amongst the students of Hogwarts. One day a story would be going around about Y/N and James being caught snogging in a broom closet while next week people swore they saw Sirius and Y/N holding hands at breakfast! Only a few hours later a new tale would circulate about Y/N and Peter's 'hot date' in Madame Puddifoot's tea shop and who could forget the time Remus and Y/N had ditched a Quidditch match to hook up in the Hufflepuff common room? The rumours became a source of great amusement for the group, sometimes they'd even go out of their way to get caught in 'interesting' situations just to see what people would come up with next!
The only person not on board with all the hijinks and giggles was Remus, who never seemed to find the joke funny, always clamming up and resorting to silence and angry stares when someone brought it up. Of course, this didn't go unnoticed and the others tried confronting him about it but he'd just laugh it off and say it was nothing and his friends were none the wiser.
All except James that was, whose keen eyes never missed anything. He noticed all the longing glances, the badly hidden blushes, the awkward moments whenever they'd touch and his mind was reeling with ways to expose the truth.
One afternoon when the five of them were sitting underneath their usual tree out by the lake, he snapped. He'd been watching Y/N and Remus have their own little conversation as they often would when Remus had reached up to brush an eyelash from Y/N's cheek and her face had turned bright pink.
"Lads, we need to do something about this." James groaned.
Peter, who was sitting on his right watching in awe as James showed off with his golden Snitch, raised an eyebrow curiously. Sirius remained where he was, laying in the sunlight with his eyes closed and enjoying the warmth. Y/N and Remus looked up from where they sat off to the side, a little bit away from the others.
“About what?" Y/N asked.
"About you and Moony." He sighed, pocketing his Snitch.
Sirius opened one eye warily. "What's this?"
"Moony and America have the hots for each other!" James stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "And they're both too cowardly to make a move, as their friends it is our duty to help them make said move."
"What the bloody hell are you on about!" Remus argued, cheeks burning.   "Oh as if!" Y/N cried at the same time, blushing just as much as the boy beside her.
Sirius sat up, his full attention on James. "What makes you say that?"
"Only the fact that I've caught Y/N staring at him all the time and how Moony gets insanely jealous whenever you hit on her, it's pathetic."
"Who hired you to play matchmaker?" Sirius snickered, thoroughly enjoying the drama unfolding in front of him. "Besides, I think you need a bit more than protectiveness and random staring to convince me."
James winked at Sirius, ever the perfect sidekick, and turned his attention to Y/N, the weaker link. "America, would you care to tell the others what you told me last week?"
Y/N frowned, momentarily confused before she realised what he must be referring to. "You-I thought you were too shit-faced to remember anything!"
"I remember everything," James smirked. "Now please, repeat to the class what you said or shall I?"
Y/N glared at James threateningly. "I'm calling your bluff, Potter."
James grins and lurched to his feet, placing a hand on his forehead dramatically and putting on a falsetto voice and a horrible American accent. "Oh Prongs, I can't believe how perfect Remus is! They don't have guys like that back in the States! I'm so in love with him! Truly, madly, completely-"
"I DID NOT SAY THAT!" Y/N yelled and threw a pinecone at James' head which he dodged easily.
"And Moony, always watching America with those big green eyes." James snickered, plopping down next to Sirius and gazing at him lovingly in an imitation of Remus.   "Oh Remus!" Sirius gasped, playing along while Peter fell into a fit of laughter. "I never did see a fella like you!" He sighed in a terrible imitation of an American accent. "Kiss me, Remus!"
"Oh Y/N!"
"ENOUGH!" Remus bellowed, glaring at the two boys. His face was completely red, his hands were clenched into tight fists and his eyes were fixed on James with a murderous look. "I have to go." He said, snatching his bag from the grass and storming off.
"Well, that didn't go as planned." James pouted.
"You complete and utter asshat!" Y/N snapped, pegging another pinecone at his head before running off after Remus
It didn't take long for her to find him, he'd only reached the other side of the Entrance Hall before she caught up. "Moony!" He stopped at the sound of her voice, watching as she caught her breath before speaking.
"I'm sorry for storming off, I just needed to get away before I punched Prongs in the face."
"It's fine, I nailed him with a pinecone instead."
Remus smiled for a moment before the happiness faded from his face, replaced by a look of concern and caution. "What he said back there..."
"Don't sweat it, I don't mind if people know we're into each other."
"Wha-" Remus spluttered.
"Well yeah, I mean, if we're gonna start dating they'll figure it out anyway." Y/N shrugged nonchalantly.
"But..."
"What?"
"I'm... You're so... amazing and I'm just... boring old me. You could do so much better."
"Oh please," Y/N smiled and stood up on her tiptoes to press a gentle kiss on his cheek. "You're perfect."

Casualties 2
"I love you, Y/N Y/L/N."
Those five little words haunted Y/N all the way back to the common room.
"Password?" The fat lady portrait asked in her drawling voice.
"Snargaluff."
The portrait swung forward and released the sound of laughter, a sound Y/N dreaded hearing right now. She plastered on a face of indifference and climbed into the room.
Sirius' friends were seated by the fire and James waved her over, the first thing her eyes fell on was the dark bruise blossoming on his neck...
"Oh Godric I've messed up." She whispered to herself, turning away from the boys and darting up to her dorm room.
She entered it to find the others were already there and she forced down any hopes of solitude tonight as she started preparing for bed, Sirius' last words to her buzzing around in her mind.
Hours passed but sleep did not come easily either of them.
Every time Y/N closed her eyes she saw him, his face at the very moment he'd confessed his feelings for her, how he'd looked when she'd broken his heart. That kiss, their last kiss. The way he'd touched her, with a gentleness she had never thought Sirius Black could be capable of.
Sirius, face buried in his pillow, breathing in the lingering scent of Y/N. The others were all snoring peacefully and the boy envied them. He felt as if he would never know such peace unless Y/N was in his arms. But she'd made it clear, the girl didn't do love.
And even though he knew it was pointless, that it was a lost cause, he still loved her with every fibre of his being. He was hers, in body and soul.
Y/N sighed deeply, rolling over for what felt like the hundredth time. Her fingers came up to brush her lips, still feeling the traces of his touch. For a few moments she dazed on the edge of dream and reality as she relived every moment with Sirius in her memory, stopping on the moment when he'd told her he loved her.
"I love you, Sirius Black." She whispered into the darkness, a confession she knew no other soul would hear.
For weeks the two couldn't stand to be in the same room together. What had once been an incredible friendship had turned into awkward encounters in the halls, furtive glances when the other wasn't looking, making excuses to leave a room when the other had just entered and miserable silences full of words unspoken.
Their friends could clearly tell something was wrong. They could see it in the way Sirius' head would jerk up whenever Y/N was mentioned in conversation, only to slump back into his brooding position when he realized she wasn't there.
They saw it in the way Y/N would move slowly when she left a classroom, giving herself time to watch Sirius walking away with a sad look in her eyes.
The only people unaware of their misery was the pair themselves, for all Sirius saw of Y/N these days was her brilliant smile when she laughed at something James said, as if she was rubbing it in his face. Not knowing, of course, that James was the only person who could get through to her because of how much he reminded the girl of the boy she loved.
Y/N Y/L/N, no longer the girl everyone wanted to be. She still had the looks, she was still brilliant and the Marauders were still playing in the palm of her hands.
She still had Sirius Black's undivided attention but what she wanted now was his love. And it was too late, she'd turned him away when he'd opened his heart to her. Without him, she felt lost.
Sirius Black, still a work of art, inside and out but no longer the person that bullies feared and others looked up to. His edge was gone, he didn't know who he was without Y/N on his arm.
It ended similarly to how it started.
Their sixth year ended and summer came and passed with no change. Two months into seventh year and the Marauders had decided it was enough. They were sick of seeing their friends so miserable, sick of knowing how much the pair missed each other but too proud to admit it.
A cold night found the Marauders all sitting around the fire together, Y/N had just walked into the common room and their plan went into action.
Remus went up to the girl and put an arm around her, whispering something to her which she responded to with a shrug of her shoulders and allowed the boy to lead her up to the boys' dorm room, all under the sad and watchful eyes of Sirius. First James now Remus, Y/N really was out on a mission to destroy him.
The thought of what the pair were doing up there brought out an anger that he hadn't felt in months and he flew to his feet.
"I'll be right back." He growled, stalking off to his room. Peter and James exchanged triumphant grins, their plan was working out perfectly.
"What's this about, Moony?" Y/N muttered as she walked into the room, sitting down on his bed.
"Do you really think no one's noticed how you've been acting these past few months? We gave you the summer because we hoped you'd feel better but clearly nothing has changed." He softened his tone when he noticed how uncomfortable the girl seemed. "Y/N, you don't have to tell me what happened, I just want to help you." He said comfortingly, sitting down beside her and putting an arm around her. "You have to let someone in."
"Thank you." She whispered, burying her face into his shoulder and wrapping her own arms around his waist.
The door flew open with a loud crashing noise that sprung the two apart.
Sirius stood in the doorway, face red with anger as he took in the two of them on Remus' bed.
"Get. Out." His eyes were fixed on Y/N as the boy ducked past him and down the stairs, not seeing the grin slowly working its way onto Remus’ face.
Then Y/N and Sirius were alone.
He stepped into the room, slamming the door behind him.
"Do you mind?" Y/N snapped, in that second forgetting all her worries and sadness, as if his very presence had taken it all away and all she felt was anger at the boy before her. "We were busy."
"I don't care," Sirius said back venomously, hands clenching into fists at his sides. "I don't care if you don't want to be with me Y/N. You can do whatever the heck you want but I will not sit by and watch you run around shagging my friends!"
Y/N fell into a shocked silence, glaring at Sirius incredulously. "Y-you think that.... that Moony and I were.... You're such an idiot! As if I would ever mess around with Moony, he's like a brother to me!"
"So was James! So was I once!"
"Whatever, I don't have to explain myself to you." Y/N shoved past him and went to the door.
Which was locked.
"Unlock the door Sirius."
"It is unlocked." He pushed her to the side and tried the handle, but it wouldn't budge.
"Sorry guys! But we're all sick of you two being such buzz kills!" Remus' voice came from the other side of the thick wood. “It’s time to talk it out.”
"If it helps, I left you some snacks and condoms under Sirius' bed. Have fun!" James laughed heartily.
"Wrap it before you tap it!" Peter added.
"WHAT THE SHIT, POTTER! OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR RIGHT NOW!" Sirius bellowed, banging on the oak.
The only response was laughter and the sound of footsteps fading away.
"Wand." Y/N suggested, having forgotten hers in the doom before dinner.
"Right." Sirius reached into his pocket but found it empty. A quick search determined that neither of them had their wands. "Peter must have stolen it from me." Sirius growled, trying the door again.
"Oh give it up, we're obviously not getting out anytime soon." Y/N sighed, making her way over to a random bed and sitting down heavily, leaning back against the headboard.
Sirius banged his forehead against the door in defeat before turning around, instantly noticing that Y/N had taken his bed. He moved to take Peter's, which was on the opposite side of the room.
Y/N watched Sirius take his seat, her heart cracking with every step he took away from her.
They fell into an uncomfortable silence, a silence filled with all the things they were dying to say but both of them were too proud to start that conversation.
"Before I forget, you uh... left your bra here, that blue one, last year the last time we.... it's in my trunk." Sirius coughed awkwardly, looking anywhere but at the one thing he wanted nothing more than to gaze at endlessly. Her.
"Thanks, I was wondering where that had gotten to." She mumbled, slipping off the bed and opening his trunk, grabbing her garment from the top and shoving it into the pocket of her robes before sitting back and leaning against the wall. From here she had a perfect view of Sirius from the side. The way the shadows bounced around on his face, defining his jawline and making his eyes look darker.
She bit her lip as she really looked at him for the first time in a long time, tilting her head to the side subconsciously. The strong set of his shoulders made her think of all the times she'd glided her hands over the soft skin and felt the muscle hidden underneath.
Her eyes passed over his body, taking in every detail and movement, the rise and fall as he breathed in and out, his lips as his tongue darted out to wet them.
When she reached his eyes again she was shocked to find them already on her.
"You alright there?" He asked bitterly.
"I'm sorry I slept with James." She blurted out. "Even I should have known that would be too far."
"Doesn't matter, what's done is done and frankly, I don't care who you're shagging." He lay back, resting his head on his hands and gazing up at the ceiling.
"You cared enough to burst in here when you thought I was getting it on with Remus." She retaliated. His jaw clenched in anger at the thought. "I wasn't, by the way. He was comforting me, you know, as friends do when they care about each other?"
"What could possibly be bothering you so much you needed comforting? Was no one willing to get in your pants today?"
"There probably would've been, I wouldn't know as I haven't been with anyone since that day you..."
"Since I what? Said I loved you? Don't worry I won't make that mistake again." He laughed coldly, Y/N winced at the ice in his voice.
"Who said it was a mistake?" She whispered.
He didn't say anything for a moment then slowly sat up to stare at her. "Don't you dare mess with this Y/N." He whispered any anger he'd felt was gone. Replaced by a small flame of hope when he saw the vulnerability in how she was looking at him.
"I shouldn't have walked away from you that day." She cautiously got to her feet, acting as one would around a wild animal they were trying not to scare off. "That was the mistake, you saying you loved me wasn't. Not by a long shot."
"Why not?" He moved to the edge of the bed, bare feet touching the cold floor as he stood to his full height.
"Because." She whispered, taking a step towards him, not once breaking eye contact. "I love you too. It took me too long to realize it but I do, I really do. I-"
He crossed the room in a few strides and gathered her into his arms, meeting her lips with a sigh of relief. That instant they touched again washed away all the bitterness and misery they'd felt these last five months. They'd gone too long without each other.
Her hands slid up his arms and into his hair, kissing him back with the same urgency.
"I love you." He murmured against her lips.
"I love you too."
"I'm never letting you walk away again."
They made a new promise that day, an unspoken one, that they would never leave each other again. A promise that rang true after they graduated when Sirius took her to the common room one last time and brought out a ring, asking her to be his for the rest of their lives. She fell to her knees in front of him, tears in her eyes as she said yes.
Their love lasted for years, the two finding comfort in each other when they heard of James and Lily's deaths. It lasted the twelve long years Sirius spent in Azkaban, suffering for the loss of two people he loved dearly.
A love that lasted even after Sirius gave his life, fighting at Harry's side.
And when Y/N fell at the battle of Hogwarts, she was at peace, knowing that she would finally see Sirius again.
