Voltz JT's timeless hit in Zimbabwe, “These Days” speaks about the dangers of social media that are still prevalent to this day.
If you’re a fan of Pop Smoke or drill music, then you might like this track. The song, These Days by Voltz JT was released on 7 May 2021. It features Jax daBeatBully, a Zimbabwean producer and rapper and the music video was directed by Leoy V. According to other sources on the internet, the song is about Voltz JT's hardships and obstacles in both his personal and musical lives. He vents his frustration at the lack of encouragement and acknowledgement from his colleagues and the industry. He also considers how he attempts to deal with his previous mistakes and regrets. Moreover, the song is a fusion of drill music and the Shona language which in turn formed a genre known as Jecha Trap. In other words, Voltz JT was the one who pioneered the Jecha Trap sound.
What is Jecha Trap? As mentioned by Innocent V on Zimboson Website, the jecha trap sound is a type of music that combines the elements of drill music and the Shona language. Drill music is a subgenre of hip hop that originated in the United Kingdom and features dark, violent, and nihilistic lyrics over hard-hitting beats. The Shona language is one of the official languages of Zimbabwe and is spoken by about 10 million people. The jecha trap sound is a way of expressing the realities of the ghetto and the struggles of the youth in Zimbabwe. The term “jecha” means sand or dirt, and it is used to describe the harsh conditions and obstacles that people face in their lives.
Not only does Voltz JT talks about his hardships in the music industry but he also mentioned the dangers of social media that are still prevalent to this day. This can be found in the song lyrics.
youtube
At the beginning of the track, there is a consistent beat with a deep bassline that showcases Voltz JT’s lyrical skills and flow. With a catchy chorus, Voltz JT begins by saying:
These days unoita mad uchipihwa mbiri nevanhu (mbiri nevanhu) / Dzinoto tryer apauchipihwa mbiri nevanhu (mbiri nevanhu) / These days pakuda chikoro chekudzidza kudealer nevanhu (kudealer nevanhu) / These days life ma1 kumaG’s anotemba nevanhu / Cuz time time vanokusimbisa kuti bho (vanoti bho) / After ipapo vanongoseka kuseri kwedoor (kuseri kwedoor) / Ita fast kubata Nyaya usaite slow (usaite slow) / These days hazvidi dzungu / Saka chigaya kugara urilow
Which means in English:
These days you get mad when you are praised by people (praise by people) / You even try when you are praised by people (praise by people) / These days school is needed to deal with people (to deal with people) / These days life is tough for the G's who trust people / Cuz time time they confirm that it's cool (they say it's cool) / After that they just laugh behind the door (behind the door) / Be quick to deal with the story, don't be slow (don't be slow) / These days don't need to be dizzy / So grind and stay low
The chorus already paints a picture of what the song is about. It highlights two issues; fake friends and the importance of moving is silence. When it comes to fake friends, Voltz JT said, “These days pakuda chikoro chekudzidza kudealer nevanhu (kudealer nevanhu) / These days life ma1 kumaG’s anotemba nevanhu” which means, “These days school is needed to deal with people (to deal with people) / These days life is tough for the G's who trust people.” This could be referring to Voltz JT’s struggles in terms of lacking support and recognition from his peers and the industry. Yet it could also refer to some negative effects of social media. For instance, some may be chasing validation in terms of getting likes on social media or some might use their friends for connections to get ahead on social media. It then paints the picture that these days life is tough for the G’s who trust people. In other words, due to the rise of social media, it has led to some fake friendships. Therefore, the song has a double meaning of not highlighting Voltz JT's struggles, but other issues caused by social media. Furthermore, it's another reason why Voltz JT seems to reinforce the importance of moving in silence.
Moreover, in Verse 1, Voltz JT highlights other issues caused by social media. This is shown when he says:
These days haazi mafunnies (these days haazi mafunnies) / Painful / Kuita kunge bee asina mamunchies (painful) / Painful nyika iri colders / Better kufamba uneka matches (painful) / Painful kumukira monaz / Tryna impress pa-IG, Pa-IG panema mababies (panema-) / Fully grown babies / Vanoita anything to get famous (to get famous) / Anything to get famous / Ukangotaura hanzi une jealous (hanzi une jealous) / All day unenge uri-out / Taking pictures hauna denaz (Shauna denaz) / All day muchiita noise / Muchingotaura nezve mahaters (haha)
Which means in English:
These days ain’t no funnies (these days ain’t no funnies) / Painful / Looking like a bee without honeybee (painful) / Painful the country is cold / Better to walk with matches (painful) / Painful waking up early in the morning  / Tryna to impress on IG, On IG there are babies (there are-) / Fully grown babies / That will do anything to get famous / Anything to get famous / If you talk, they say you are jealous / All day you will be out / Taking pictures without a house / All day making noise / Always talking about haters
Verse 1 talks about how the youth are trying to seek validation on Instagram. Some have resorted to making mediocre content such as meaningless gossip, fake trips overseas, and basically living a fake life hence why Voltz JT said there are fully grown babies on Instagram that will do anything to get fame. To support this, he said, “All day unenge uri-out / Taking pictures hauna denaz.” Some are busy taking pictures for Instagram instead of finding ways to sort out their lives which shows that the song, These Days speaks about the dangers of social media that are still prevalent to this day.
To finalize the message of the song about the dangers of social media, the song ends with an outro:
I also feel like at the same time it’s where we are trying too hard, a lot of people are trying to look too good on social media especially not caring enough about building who they are in real life. So, at the end of the day, really nice pictures, really hot girl but having a conversation with her she does not have any substance cause all she focuses on is the appearance that she used to provide on social media apart from what she is, who she is as a person or what she can, you know venture in as a human being.
The outro clearly depicts the dangers of social media which calls for moderation. In other words, the message behind the song, “These Days” is centered on not comparing our lives on social media. One may not know what happens behind closed doors. Towards the end of the song, the consistent beat with a deep bassline is matched perfectly with Voltz JT vocals when he said, “After ipapo vanongoseka kuseri kwedoor” which means “After that they just laugh behind the door.”
In a nutshell, I loved the authenticity of the track. The visuals were simple yet suited well with the song’s message. I also appreciated a new genre titled, “Jecha Trap” which is a fusion of drill music and the Shona Language. Since Voltz JT is the pioneer of the genre, it also explains how he is one of the famous Zim hip hop artists in Zimbabwe. Therefore, I highly rate the track, 10/10.

16: do you have a danganronpa murder plan? Please share.
17: 5 headcannons for your favorite characters
16. Do you have any ideas for a Danganronpa murder? Share!
HOOO boy okay. I have one for DR2 in mind but alas that is a Getaway spoiler :> In that same vein though I still love the idea of a murder involving Sonia, Gundham, and Kazuichi. Sonia could easily kill one of those two without much suspicion, and Gundham and Kaz each have the motive of jealousy. I do think that Sonia wouldn't hurt anyone undeserving but also picture with me: girlboss.
17. List five headcanons for your favorite characters!
- Kokichi would wear heelies. Full stop.
- Kyoko reads murder mysteries like Agatha Christie but doesn't like to mention it because of, like, a pride thing. Makoto gets her to talk about them, and she gushes.
- Hiro is biracial! (Look at his hair and tell me he's not fr.) I've written his dad as Zimbabwean before after researching the matter :D
- I am a firm believer in chubby Chiaki. She's just like me fr
- Another Kokichi one I apologize but I also love the common heterochromia hc because of that one beta design. Purple and yellow complimentary colors YIPPEE

An apparent social media ruse in Zimbabwe about people selling their toes for large amounts of money is being taken more seriously elsewhere in Africa.
The unfounded story that suggests Zimbabweans are parting with their digits to beat poverty is trending in Nigeria.
A tongue-in-cheek Zimbabwean blog post suggested the trade was happening at a shopping centre in the capital, Harare.
It quotes alleged WhatsApp messages with figures as high as $40,000 (£31,800) being offered by traditional healers in South Africa for a big toe.
It is not uncommon for body parts to be used in unscrupulous traditional so-called cures. Touted by charlatans or fake healers, they are associated with witchcraft - and are condemned by respected traditional healers, known as "sangomas" in southern Africa.
But correspondents says the amounts involved - $40,000 for a big toe, $25,000 for a middle toe and $10,000 for a little one - are laughable and most people regard it as so.
Toe memes and jokes are circulating in Zimbabwe, often posted with the hashtag #Chigunwe, which means "toes" in the local Shona language, bringing light relief in hard economic times.
But none of Zimbabwe's more serious newspapers have taken up the story and some people on Twitter have complained that the hilarity is a distraction from more critical issues facing the country.
The Gambakwe blog, published on 28 May, said the "trade in toes" was happening at Harare's Ximex Mall.
A few days after the blog, Zimbabwean tabloid H-Metro posted an interview with black market currency traders at the mall who said the whole issue was blown out of proportion after a few of them shared it as a joke.
But since then they said some people had been coming down to Ximex to enquire about the trade on hearing "the rumours".
Tweeters in several African countries, including in Nigeria and Uganda, began posting that Zimbabweans had started selling their toes for thousands of dollars. A Kenyan radio station also tweeted it, acknowledging it was an unconfirmed report, but asking their followers which body part they would be willing to sell.
The Nigerian tweet by @InnocentZikky, which was retweeted 2,668 times and garnered 4,731 likes in 18 hours, includes photos of feet with missing toes.
The BBC Disinformation Unit reviewed two videos said to be of people who had sold their toes or were in the process of selling their toes and believes they were staged.
But these social media trends sometimes have real-world implications as they can be believed and replicated.
The story has hit a nerve in Nigeria in particular where there is an upsurge in money rituals - a belief that using body parts can bring riches.
In January this year, three people were arrested in Nigeria for allegedly killing a teenage girl for ritual purposes.

2023 Year End List - #13
Tumblr media
Sweet Justice - Tkay Maidza
Main Genres: Pop Rap, Contemporary R&B, Electronic
A decent sampling of: Funky House, Hip House, Industrial Hip Hop, Trap
So I'm a little late to the party on this one. Forgive me. 🙏😔
Tkay Maidza is a Zimbabwean Australian hip hop artist who's had several critical successes with her three part EP series Last Year Was Weird. Mind you, I'm not Australian, so I haven't been closely following the ARIAs or anything. I know I'd seen the cover of Vol. 2 somewhere (most likely while browsing the RYM charts) and thought it looked cool, but that was all of my prior exposure to her before checking out this record.
Now that I finally have checked out her latest LP, I can definitely get behind the hype she's built up.
Maidza strikes me as kind of a jack-of-all-trades in the world of hip hop, pop, dance, and R&B. She's a well-rounded performer who's just as comfortable spitting acid over noisy, industrial broken beats as she is singing girlish hooks in plush diva registers over glossy house productions. And I for one really appreciate a pop artist that can do many things well, and regularly challenges themselves in this way.
Tkay gives us many facets of herself on Sweet Justice, an R&B/rap crossover record that acts as both a declaration of war, and a self-love letter in the wake of the trappings of success and learning to let go of everything holding her back. The artist is forging a path forward out of the decaying ruins of regrets, with incisive farewells to people and bad agents from her past, literally constructing a monument to her new self image on the cover art (which is fucking badass looking, btw).
And slick as all hell production. Seriously, this whole goddamn thing sounds like it was encased in some molten liquid onyx, or something else equally ludicrously expensive and impractical. A big part of the success of this record needs to be credited to the producers, mastering, and mixing engineers on this project; some of the cleanest R&B I have ever heard.
"Out of Luck" is a bulbous pop banger made for fluorescent paint night clubs, with gorgeous, addictive vocal harmonies in the chorus. The central rhythm is positively dripping with wet globs of luxurious funk on top of some very Y2K R&B space synth pads. Featured guests Amber Mark and Lolo Zaouï are totally killing it on their spots too. Makes me feel like one hot motherfucker, twirling my neon hair (which I do not have) and moving on with my life.
Tkay turns up the heat on the sweltering, mysterious "Love Again" wherein she laments her waning capacity to love someone. I like the really lo-fi take on that acoustic guitar sampler sound that was really prevalent in a lot of 90s R&B pop. This one lingers in my head long after its over thanks to the eerily foreboding riff - like trying to find love in a barren desert wasteland.
"Ghost" is simply the best thing on here. I knew I recognized the production from somewhere the first time I heard it, but it should've been obvious even before I went ahead and looked it up: it's mf-ing Kaytranada. This kind of air-tight, bouncy, gravity-defying funky house sound was what defined his Polaris-winning 99.9%, and honestly this might even be his most impressive beat to date. Tkay naturally nails the performance on this one too, gliding on and off of the silver clouds of the production and delivering pure ear-candy riffs and playful quips from start to finish, though "I see through you like Casper / Toxic jig's up like the rafters / Me you natural disaster" is a personal favourite.
The next best thing on the opposite end of the spectrum is the industrial hip hop of "Silent Assassin", a nasty quivering nervous tick of a beat with red hot shiny buzzer sounds. I can feel my vision going all blurry as Maidza's figuratively shoving me to the edge of a cliff on this track. This is how you make your presence known as a force not to be fucked with as the deadly underdog of the pop rap game.
One more quick observation - what's with the random ass Nova Scotia shout out on "Gone to the West"? Did they know I was going to be listening to this record? I can count on one hand the times I've heard my home province referenced in a piece of non-Canadian media, and one of those is in a frigging Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode. Total glitch in the simulation moment for me.
Anyhow, the only moments that don't land as well on this record are the two tracks where, dare I say it, she's giving 'Doja Cat' energy ("Ring-a-Ling" and "WUACV"). Idk, this type of "nyeh nyeh lol u mad" silly pop rap has never really been my sort of thing. Most of it' i's kinda grating to my ears, and frankly not even Tkay can fully redeem this sort of song (though its still a cut above most other songs in this very tiktok-y "genre" by virtue of her raw talent).
Luckily, there's more than enough variety and superb execution of different styles that I already quite enjoy on this record. Sweet Justice is a treat to the ears that hardly ever lets up, giving you a little bit of everything with an absolutely stunning finish in the sound department. Audiophiles who love hip hop, R&B, pop, electronic, and dance music are sure to get a hell of a lot out of this very sexy-sounding record. Put some respect on the silent assassin of hip hop.
8/10
Highlights: "Ghost", "Silent Assassin", "Out of Luck", "Love Again", "Walking On Air", "Our Way"

obsessed with the paul le roux story currently. i read an entire book about the case yesterday afternoon. i guess technically this story is "true crime" but when i think true crime i think, like, "irresponsible and rubbernecky coverage of women being murdered" not "massive international drugs and arms smuggling ring run by a dorky loser nobody's ever heard of".
if you purchased gray market pharmaceuticals online in the late aughts/early tens, there is a decent chance you in some small part helped fund this guy's operation. he's a racist white zimbabwean based out of the philippines who tried to buy back the reclaimed land of white farmers from the zimbabwe government. he bought a fucking island off the philippines. AN ISLAND! he wanted to start a self contained operations base in somalia, a combination opium farm and small arms repository, and would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for an elaborate DEA sting operation that got him arrested. he has a lot of kids all over the world, possibly up to eleven of them. he's ordered dozens of people murdered by his team of mercenaries. he bought meth from the north korean government.
once he got arrested, he flipped on everyone he ever knew and worked with, because he has no integrity and no values beyond making money and preserving his sorry ass. he's currently doing 25 years in american prison and once he gets out he'll be right back to his old tricks. a lot of people think he's satoshi nakamoto the bitcoin guy but i don't buy it, he's too egotistical to do something as big as invent bitcoin and not tell anyone about it.
why am i fascinated by this guy? a few reasons. one, i am intrigued if also annoyed by the constant comparisons (both by journalists and by paul himself) to jeff bezos and elon musk. his approach to massive international crimes is very different from old school mafia or drug kingpin behaviors - no swag, no showy outfits or private zoos. it has much more in common with modern tech startups- constant pivoting, rapid expansion, moving fast, breaking things. he took the startup mentality to its logical conclusion. if jeff bezos thought he could get away with it, he would do the same evil shit this guy did. two, i am in awe of his audacity! the man was on track to create a private city in a remote part of somalia. he was aspiring to nothing less than being a straight up somalian warlord. i don't like it, it's very bad, but it is totally fascinating. three, i just feel like not enough people know about this case, and also, there's probably so much about it that hasn't been exposed still. le roux should be free in uhh 2040 or so? if he hasn't been killed in prison. so keep an eye out for that.

Bryan K featuring Tamy Moyo and Kayflow glorify the goodness of God in this heartfelt song titled, “Hakuna.”
If you’re looking for a heartfelt Christian song glorifying God, then this song is for you. The song, “Hakuna” was released on 25 September 2023. As mentioned by Innocent Veremu on the Zimsphere Website, Bryan K has always been vocal about his Christian beliefs and how they influence his music. Moreover, the song is inspired by the Gospel hymn that Bryan K grew up singing in church, which translates to “There is no one like Jesus.” Therefore, the beat is emotional showcasing the artist's lyrical prowess with Bryan K’s catchy chorus, Tamy Moyo’s soulful vocals and Kayflow’s heartfelt lyricism. From my point of view, the song is heavily premised on Psalms 42:5 GNT, “Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour, and my God.”
youtube
The music video begins by showing Bryan K singing the chorus accompanied by a hint of drums playing in the background. Moreover, it is interesting that the FLASH MOB DANCING GROUP (UFIC YOUTH) are dancing throughout the chorus that glorifies God. For instance, in the lyrics, Bryan K said:
Ndatsvaga tsvaga kwose / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna / Ndatenderera kwose / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna / Ndafamba famba kwose / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna / Ndafamba famba kwose / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna akaita semi / Hakuna
Which means in English:
I have searched everywhere / There is no one like You / There is no one like You / There is none / I’ve been around / There is no one like you / There is no one like you / There is none / I have travelled everywhere / There is no one like you / There is no one like you / There is none / I have travelled everywhere / There is no one like you / There is no one like you / There is none.
Bryan K’s deep vocals highlight his Christian beliefs of having faith in God and since the chorus sets the tone throughout the track, Tamy Moyo follows suit with her soulful vocals highlighting the goodness of God. For instance, she said:
I’ve been looking so honestly / None can compare Your Majesty / No one like You Lord / None in this whole world/ Hakuna mumwe akaita semi / Saka ndichikudai nemoyo wangu wose / You never left me whenever I was broken / You will listen with your arms wide open (with Your arms wide open) Hukuru wenyu Mwari / I can’t describe it / Hukuru wenyu Mwari / I can't imagine / Ndatsvaga ndashaiwa / Your love is bigger love is greater / Ndafamba famba ndichiona / Pasi rose Hakuna / yeah
Tamy Moyo’s verse is premised in 1 Peter 5:6-7 GNT “Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that he will lift you in his own good time. Leave all your worries with him because he cares for you.” She is thanking God for always being there for her when she was broken. First, she said, “Saka ndichikudai nemoyo wangu wose, " meaning “So I love you with all my heart.”  In other words, no matter what challenges she faces, she can always rely on God because his love is greater than anything. Second, she said, “Hukuru wenyu mwari, " meaning “Your greatness God.” In other words, she is in awe of His greatness who loves her for who she is and will always be by her side. To add to the heartfelt vocals, the song then progresses to showcase Bryan K’s catchy chorus to highlight the goodness of God.
To finalise the track, Kayflow comes in with his lyricism highlighting the greatness of God. Before he starts rapping, he starts singing when he says:
Chero zvakamira / Mambo tenzi munouya munovhura nzira / Hamumbofuratira / Chero vanouya nekuseri / Munongondichengetedza nekusingaperi / Chero zvakamira / Mambo tenzi munouya munovhura nzira / Hamumbofuratira / Chero vanouya nekuseri / Munongondichengetedza nekusingaperi / Ndatsvaga ini / Ndatsvaga imi / Hakuna hakuna / Akaita semi (akaita semi) / Ndatsvaga ka ini / Hakuna hakuna / Akaita semi.
Which means in English:
Whatever it is / Lord, you come and open the way / You never ignore it / No matter who they come from behind / You will protect me forever / Whatever it is / Lord, you come and open the way / You never ignore it / No matter who they come from behind / You will protect me forever / I have searched for myself / I have searched for you / There is none there is none / Like you (like you) / I have searched for you / There is none there is none / Like you.
It just highlights Psalms 86:8-10 which says, “There is no god like you, O Lord, not one has done what you have done. All the nations that you have created will come and bow down to you; they will praise your greatness. You are mighty and do wonderful things; you alone are God.” From my point of view, Kayflow also seems inspired by his Christian beliefs as he goes on further to rap in the lyrics below:
I’m on a vibe see / NdinaJesu, I was lost / But he found me / Now I’m walking in the valley / Of the shadow of death / It cannot touch me / Blessed is the man on a search / To seek his loving / Ndafamba ndatsvaga / Ndashaya / Hakuna / Akaita semi / Manna mapakira / I was really hungry / Needed food for the soul / Mukauya mukandipa / Now I’m good ndiri bho
With his lyricism, this time he highlights the goodness of Jesus Christ who protects him wherever he goes. Moreover, from my point of view, it points out Psalms 23, “Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, LORD, for you are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me.”
Towards the end of the music video, ends with Tamy Moyo’s soulful vocals and Bryan K’s catchy chorus. They presented the goodness of God with their artistry with a beat that stayed consistent from start to finish. Moreover, with a mixture of a hint of drums, a violin and a moderate piano sound, the song was heartfelt to listen to. The music was also produced by Bryan K and Nasper Incoming.
In a nutshell, the song, “Hakuna” highlighted Bryan K’s catchy chorus, Tamy Moyo’s soulful vocals and Kayflow’s heartfelt lyricism. Each artist was given a chance to showcase their lyrical prowess and songwriting skills. Their vocals were on point, the music production and the music video were intriguing to watch as well. Therefore, I rate the track 10/10.

Zimbabwean man beaten by South African students
A man allegedly from Zimbabwe was beaten by South African students. He is being accused of stealing Cellphone. If he had stolen the phone for sure that is wrong. The students and other people beating him are wrong as well. Mob justice is evil. Usually wrong people are beaten or killed. The man seem to have lost an eye. Suspects must be handed to the Police. South Africa has competent Police…

What nationality, ethnicity, race are your ocs?
Callum is white/Filipino , his dad is Filipino , and his mom is white. They’re all in the US with duo citizenship excluding his mom (you need to live and work in the Philippines for at least ten years) and often go back and forth for work and visiting extended family. Callum is slowly learning Tagalog and his dad speaks it fluently. His mom’s secondary language is Spanish.
The background characters haven’t had as much thought put into them so far excluding two characters that are in the works.
One is for the music video, he operates as one of the antagonists (though not a villian just kind of an obstacle) he’s a sugar skull matador with a piñata bull counterpart. Outside of the music video, he’s less antagonistic. He’s kind of a headless horseman-like? He’s a restless spirit who roams the earth until he can face off against the bull who killed him, and in the music video he’s a part of this training module that Callum and his mom will use in it. I’m still juggling names for this character, but his ethnicity and nationality are both Spanish.
Callum will have a babysitter with minor magical powers that she uses for close-up magic during his childhood, her nationality is US and her ethnicity is Zimbabwean.

My criticism of cryptocurrency in the past kinda paid off, people lost money.
