Ending April with a small parting gift. I’m gonna miss this.
Anyways, an announcement of my own.
The short of it
I’m leaving the Watcher fandom. Don’t worry, I won’t be unfollowing anyone, but I will be ceasing the creation of art for Watcher and interaction with the community at large. Thank you all for this short but meaningful ride. Feel free to unfollow me if you were here for Watcher art, and for those who stick around…
Thank you :]
I hope to not disappoint with this new era of mine.
The long of it
It’s been a couple of days since a certain channel dropped an announcement that imploded its fandom. It was… a mess. A lot—and I mean a lot—of us didn’t handle the news well, and we made that known to everyone. The impact was so massive that YouTubers, who are nowhere near the niche that Watcher operates under, covered the situation, and some of them explained very well why the decision went over so poorly. Meanwhile some of them made fun of the situation, and some were just there for the clicks, but that’s the cycle of YouTube drama for you.
With the amount of ears waiting for even a peep out of their mouths, Watcher couldn’t ignore the backlash any longer and released an apology video three days after the announcement. By all accounts, it was a pretty good response. The reception was mixed, but it was definitely more well-received than their first video, and they actually listened to their fans who gave them valid criticism over the sudden shift to a streaming service.
However…
For as much as I appreciate their response, I still can’t find it in myself to continue following Watcher. I really mean it when I say this disaster soured any enjoyment I had for them. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch them again for a long time without thinking about this situation or remembering the people they have hurt, even if unintentionally, through their poor execution of a business decision.
Do I believe they could’ve pulled off moving their content to a streaming service? Absolutely. However, so many factors doomed this decision and their announcement from the start from them believing that $5.99/month was “affordable to everyone” (seriously?) to them insisting that this was for the fans even though the fans have vocalized that they were never there for the high production value. They were there because the three guys who run Watcher were enjoyable!
I feel like if they had been honest about the fact that the TV quality they are aiming for was more for themselves than anyone–hell, it’s the mission statement in their About page, and, I don’t know, considered the idea that $6 is not cheap, especially for international fans, people wouldn’t have gotten so angry at them. Now, there are still numerous issues plaguing this business model, but to go through all of the arguments would require a separate post, and I’ve already expended too much energy on this situation. Needless to say, Watcher has burnt their bridges, and it will take a while before they can build them back up again, let alone get people to trust them enough to cross them.
On the other hand, I can’t blame Watcher fully for my departure. Despite my heavy disagreement with their initial decision, I understand why they thought this decision was a good idea in the first place as YouTube is a very unstable career path, and it would rather hurt its creators with its relentless demonetization, censorship and restrictive guidelines than give up just a tiny amount of its profit. Besides, they’re in control of their content, and they could do what they want with it even if their fans disagreed with them.
Speaking of the fans, my god. The situation revealed a side of the fandom that I never thought I would see, but in hindsight, I should have seen it coming. To see fans resort to anti-Asian racism and death threats so quickly was extremely heartbreaking, and as an Asian person, it made me feel very unsafe and unwelcome in the community.
Moreover, using Steven as a scapegoat to absolve Ryan and Shane of any wrongdoing was unfortunately a very common response. Yes, he is the CEO, and yes, his series being centered on traveling and eating expensive food really doesn’t paint him in a positive light, but need I remind you that RYAN AND SHANE ARE GROWN ADULTS. They’re the founders of Watcher, and they both have to agree to the initial plan for it to be implemented. You can’t assume that Steven was a boogeyman terrorizing your precious little boys just based on a 15-minute video. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.
All of this to say that the initial announcement combined with how the community reacted violently to the announcement really nipped my interest in Watcher in the bud. It was a shame too because I really did love Watcher, and I still do. Had it not been for the time I invested in following them, I wouldn’t have made great friends, regained the joy in creating art–even reviving a hobby/skill that I assumed was long dead, and had a reason to be able to laugh or smile even in terrible days. I truly am grateful for Watcher, and I do not regret ever getting into them at all. However, I think it’s time for me to go.
Thank you all for this weird and wonderful ride, but at some point, you’ll have to hop off. I just didn’t expect to hop off it so soon.

Hello my followers. Today I'm posting something that's not a piece of art I made or a responce to an ask, because I need your help. Several days ago, with the help of my very supportful art teacher, I made a Google account and a Youtube channel as well. She wanted me to post my music on there because she liked it alot and wanted other people to discover it as well. I shared those thoughts too. I also wanted to have a Google account as well because I had one up until 2019 where a phone number being removed caused it to instantly remove my access to the Google account, and thus the Youtube channels I had, which included an earlier instance of a channel dedicated to my music. My most succesful channel only had a slight big over a hundred subscribers.
So I got the Google account, and the Channel set up to where I wanted it and started work on the first upload. It was supposed to a full upload of my album "Suffering Embedded in Logic" with a remastering done by me. I completed the full upload, and even gone through the effort of verifying my account for the purpose of being able to upload a one hour video without hassle. I uploaded it, the copyright checks went through fine, and I uploaded it to the channel. I, obviously considering the big steps I took to getting here, advertised it everywhere, and I wanted to advertise it on this account as well. But then, after a total of three days since creating the account, and not even a day after uploading the video, I was greated to a screen.
It said my video was removed because my account has been terminated. I was obviously very much distressed by this. What could've caused this termination? Why? Was it the full album I posted? Was it something completely different? Did I spent all this time wishing to have a channel again to then be euthanized like that? So I sent an appeal to Youtube regarding my channel.
Tumblr media
I got an email confirming that they were looking into the appeal, and that I would get it in around 2 business days.
Tumblr media
All well and good, right? Well, I woke up today to this lovely message in my Inbox:
Tumblr media
This was obviously shocking to me. In the email regarding my termination, Youtube said my channel had "severe or repeated violations of [their] Community Guidelines". I believe that I wasn't doing anything that could break their Guidelines. What part of the Guidelines I was apparently breaking was not detailed in any way, so in my appeal I said for them to atleast guide me to where in the Guidelines I was breaking these rules, but in their reply not only did they not tell what I was apparently breaking, but doubled down on their decision and are keeping me terminated. Fun little fact, you can only make ONE appeal to them, and no more.
Tumblr media
This was infuriating to say the least. Not only did they banned someone who didn't do anything, they didn't even include a reason or anything so at to why they did this. So in their Feedback form thing, I wrote them this:
Tumblr media
Please, PLEASE read this fully if you want to see my thoughts on this, but if you really can't, here is a "tl;dr" on my thoughts.
I have 2 working theories that might explain why I was inexplicably banned from this platform. And both arent the brightest in their image.
The first theory I have is that this is all a work of a Bot that just so decided to screw over a person for some false reasoning that it sticked to. This theory is confirmed by several support threads on Google's own support forums regarding this exact issue (which are still being made to this day), the one linked as an example. From there, I saw many a person talk about their channels being unfairly banned for unexplained reasons, including a small martial arts group that were only uploading clips of them. that martial arts group got the reasoning of "spam, deceptive practices, and misleading material" for their ban. I believe their network of bots sometimes falsely flag people and terminate them, and that human support doesn't come to correct these bots for many of the smaller people, resulting in an unfair permanent banning. As such, I proposed for them to give reasons as to why they ban people, as well as up the amount of appeals you can do, as well as for them to make their bots better.
The second theory though has more serious allegations. I don't usually talk about where I live, mostly for privacy concerns and also that I believe you shouldn't give out all your information for strangers online, but I have to talk about it for this part. I live in Russia. I have been living in Russia for my whole life. It isn't the best place to live in my opinion, but I've been stuck on this patch of land since I was born. Ever since the Russo-Ukranian War started, the already somewhat negative outlook of people outside of Russia has dropped significantly, many people from there who catered to people outside of Russia received many threats. One of my best friends, who I like to call Reggie, that is working in a store dedicated to people with Autism, had to stop working in Global markets because there was so much hate for Russians at the time that the Dollar-to-Ruble ratio dropped massively, and it was just too much. Many sites put sanctions on Russian sectors, including PayPal, which led to many Russians who used it to basically be poor. Which leads me to believe this: The reason why Youtube terminated my account with no explanation is because either it's human support is xenophobic, or that Youtube itself is xenophobic. I do not like this though, but I'm more and more convinced that this is the case.
Which leads me to a wider discussion of how Youtube is fundamentally broken. From letting big youtubers to stay on the platform despite them breaking their own rules, to many spam comments and scam accounts that exist solely to harvest subscribers and unsuspecting victims, to the whole ElsaGate debocle an how it returned in BIG amounts with Youtube doing nothing, to innocent channels getting silenced and punished for just existing, I believe that what Youtube meant in "making sure that Youtube is a safe place to all" is that they would make sure that Youtube is a safe place to all the big channels that are making money for them, which include scammers, botted accounts, hacks, and big television networks. I say NO to that. I say
FUCK
YOUTUBE
Youtube has shown to be late to things that should've been resolved way earlier, that they do not care about serious violations of their rules unless it is explicitly called out on Twitter, that they are inherently racist, homophobic, and xenophobic as was shown in many cases prior to this one (CoryXKenshin immediately brings to my mind), and that they will let their biggest cashcows to continue thriving on their platform and giving them money, even if they are the most scummiest creatures of this earth. This should NOT be how Youtube is. It should be a safe community for many people to go about their lives posting things they want to do, knowing they are safe from the threats of people who would gladfully steal their work knowing they are bigger than you and can get away with it or the system not banning them for arbitrary things they dont know. It should be safe for all, but its only safe for the biggest. So I again say
FUCK
YOUTUBE
Please spread my story everywhere you can. Reblog this, crosspost this, blaze it, share it anywhere (but especially on Twitter) you can to let my story be known. Please let everyone know how broken Youtube is, and keep fighting. Even when my Youtube account gets restored, keep. fighting. Keep fighting for the hope that Youtube will FINALLY listen to their cries, and that they will start fixing their shit, because any win we have is one step towards a truly safe place for all. If you have/had any experiences like this, or you live in Russia as well, tell me your thoughts and your story! Hopefully, this will lead to more stories of Youtube being in the wrong, and this will lead to a better future.
Hope you read and understood all of this.
So now that you have read of my channel's unfortunate sudden end, you might be wondering this:
"Well that was sad to hear, but how can I help YOU specifically?"
Glad you're asking that! I would love to have your support in any way. So here are places where you can help!
Tumblr
Obviously, considering you where you're currently are, you can support me here on Tumblr by reblogging and following this blog, as well my side blog @mailyftw! Here I post the art I make, as well as any serious announcements, while on the side blog I like reposting various things and showing whatever doodles I made today. It would be very helpful for me. You can also support me on Newgrounds, it's basically my side art archive, and also a music archive! Speaking of music,
Bandcamp
This is where I primarily upload my music on. I've been making Caretaker-like music since 2020, and I would love for you lot to hear it, espcially since I improved from that time. I may upload the remastered version of the album I mentioned earlier with some new tracks added, since I was planning to do this for a while now. I also host on there my supergroup The Haggstrom's albums. We've had some stuff out for a while to enjoy, infact we're making an album ABOUT the problems Youtube has! We have a dedicated server where you can talk about them and even make a submission for our projects, so if you want to support not only my work but the collective works of many people, you can do so by clicking this sentence! It would be very much appreciated, since work has exponentially slowed down there.
WeVidi and BitView
These two Youtube alternatives is where I currently upload my work to. On WeVidi, I upload content related to my music, particularly my albums. And on BitView I upload everything else basically, including memes and animation (hopefully soon). If you want to support me on there, please make an account on these platform and subscribe and share my videos, it will not only help me to be seen, but also help these revivals to thrive as more people see them. Hopefully, they won't lead to a Vidlii situation! Hopefully.
Socials, also known as "Other"
If you want to support me somewhere else, here are some other places I frequent: - SpaceHey! It's a revival of MySpace, and it's really great. I'm always on there, and I sometimes make bulletins or blogs. Friend me if you want! I'll accept most people that are sane and like the things I like. - Discord! Message me at the___messenger and maybe friend me too! Again, I'll accept most people that are sane and like the things I like. If you're one of the "big people", and you want to interview me, go ahead! Though please, link this blog post and the big places I'm in, and be mindful that I don't have the best camera in the world so I'll most likely be doing this in text or on phone. - Reddit! I'm active on there under Spot_Mark, you can message me if you want. Again, I'll accept most people that that are sane and like the things I like, or people wanting to interview me. - Escargot! If you are particularly privy, you can message at [email protected]. Once again, I'll accept most people that that are sane and like the things I like, or people wanting to interview me. Note that you'll need an escargot account and a copy of Windows Live Messenger, preferably 8.5, to even begin messaging. - Anywhere else! I'm on many platforms and places, usually on the smaller side. You can find me under "TheMessengerVEVO" or a similar name on a place. Any support will be thankful. - I'm considering getting a Boosty account for people to help me monetarily, since we here are basically scraping by, plus the wole PayPal nonsense. Hopefully yall could help when it comes out, if at all.
If you supported me because of this, I have nothing but the biggest thanks for you! I'll try updating you on this situation as it goes on, and hopefully it will result in things actually being done. I'm very scared of whatever might come, and also relieved now that I revealed the whole Russia thing. I wanted to reveal that anyway for the past couple of months. Anyway, I hope this gets big and gets the attention of Youtube!
- May our strength guide us forwards, The Messenger.

ADVISORY/NOTIFICATION
(Yes, this applies to you, SF aficionado! You!)
THE TOP-10 ALL-TIME FAVORITE SF WEBSITES
THE LONG, SLOW WALK TO OUR AUTUMN 2023 RELEASE HAS KICKED OFF | VOTES TO BE COMPILED FROM SF FANS
Tumblr media
Top-25 All-Time Favorite SF Models List No. 1 Laura, from www.randomsnaps.com (Australia), which is an iconic but self-de-activated SF website
Some details have been worked out and are set in stone, with the slightest possibility of some modification before the voting process begins by or during mid-Summer (Northern Hemisphere). Much is being discussed for its merits and drawbacks. It WILL BE interactive.
It shall feature:
Voting by web-masters/web producers from tumblr; webpage owners from YouTube; and significant, well-established contributors/uploaders/authors from Smoking Fetish Kingdom. Own (oversee) a tumblr SF-content webpage and you can vote; we'd encourage it. Please do consider participating. This is for you all!
Weighted voting from our brand: One vote each from vs120shound, lostlighter23 and vs120shound-2
Ballot (informal; voter will type it up and list vertically or horizontally, whichever) will have voters list 10 outstanding SF websites to receive votes. Votes to be valued at one point for a 10th-place vote, two points for a ninth-place vote . . . increasing by a point until the No. 1 vote earns 10 points for the tallying up.
Tumblr media
Top-25 All-Time Favorite SF Models List No. 4 Preslie (left) and friend Amber, a legendary smoker, from www.usasmokers.com (Arizona, U.S.A.), an iconic SF website still going strong
To be determined:
If there's enough interest with sufficient or greater than sufficient voter participation, it might be expanded to a Top-25. Position order within the 25 determined by vote totals as well.
Will use tumblr Chat function to collect votes.
Will announce when voting begins. Votes on tumblr Chat received early might not be counted (not committed to that policy at this point; do not want to be punitive but it NEEDS to be manageable, right?). There will be a timeframe with specific dates for the opening and closing. DATES WILL BE ADVERTISED CLEARLY! on our three pages.
(Believe Chat is not activated for communication between 2 folks on tumblr unless each is "following" the other, or one is "following" the other but not necessarily both of them connected to each other. Not sure. Will try to find out, and if different from stated here will be explained in no uncertain terms. If anyone knows for sure, please be kind enough to let us know. That would be enormously helpful. If it's going to be interactive, won't be shy about asking for help; suggestions at the point, not so much welcomed!)
Friends on SFK might be invited to take part through the DM feature. Friends of our brand on tumblr will receive Chat invitations to cast votes for the Top-10. When that begins has not been decided but well before the end of July. Please be patient! Waiting would be greatly valued.
We might expand to include Honorable Mention votes, and that will be limited to three to five SF websites listed in that section, possibly receiving a half-point each for the tallying.
Not sure whether a vote, for example, for Elegant.Smoking.com -- a sister site of Smoking-Models (U.K.) -- would be a separate, independent vote or whether it would be recorded as a vote for the parent, Smoking-Models (U.K.). A possible workaround would be (hypothetically) two listings for Smoking-Models. The first or top one in the list when published online here (yes, we are envisioning that S-M most likely will be a Top-10 choice) would have the family total. In other words, any vote for any site within its family, including ElegantSmoking.com and www.smokingfans.com, et al. And the second total would be for votes specifically for Smoking-Models.com. That would need to be explained when we publish the rules/guidelines for voting. Being discussed. Same could apply to SmokingModels.com (Florida, U.S.A.) and its sister site, www.smokingerotica.com. We are in evaluating mode on this, as stated discussing all the ramifications and potential drawbacks with our options.
Top-25 All-Time Favorite SF Model No. 7 Charley Atwell in all her splendor . . . and something else . . . a Hall of Famer and SF Goddess, from www.smoking-models.com (U.K.), an epic SF website that is still producing super high-quality content on a regular basis
What are the drawbacks that might not be rectified?:
YouTube has been the leader in posting SF-content almost ever since it was launched earlier in the century. We discovered the YT webpage of SF playlists during the springtime (posted it on all three of our blogs/vlogs/webpages) and determined that webpage of playlists covered some potential 51K of videos. And, certainly, not all SF videos on YouTube have been included in that grand listing. How many out there not included in the playlists is impossible to calculate.
It will be difficult -- or impossible -- to promote our voting for the Top-25 SF websites of all time on that platform. YT is essentially videos and videos only. (We are mulling potential workarounds in this matter. But nothing jumps out shouting, "this is the remedy" at this juncture.)
In the realm of being unfair ("it is what it is;" the world is NOT a meritocracy), this Top-25 list will be tumblr-centric. No possible way to have it divvied up fairly among tumblr, SFK and YouTube, ignoring all other fans of SF. None. Easy workaround around is upon release noting this is "a tumblr Top-25 favorite SF websites list." Realize this not being endorsed as an official tumblr project -- and it won't be, nor should it be -- just something published by a subscriber on three of its blogs/vlogs/webpages with participation from other tumblr users.
It will be fun for all involved! (we PROMISE!)
Stay tuned for updates, if any (explanation and expansion of the rules/guidelies), and, of course, for the announcement for starting and ending dates for the voting. Please monitor to the degree that you are comfortable in dedicating the extra time to focus attention away from your regular daily activities to ensure that you do not miss this opportunity to be included. We want all who desire to take part to have that chance in a fair, all-inclusive way.
We are looking forward to this with great excitement and heightened expectations. We were proud of our non-interactive Top-25 all-time favorite SF models list in January 2023, released on vs120shound only! By including you all, that should allow the SF website list upcoming to exceed in merit and quality the all-time SF models list to a considerable degreel
Thank you for your consideration . . .
-- web-master/web producer and The Staff for vs120shound, lostlighter23 and vs120shound-2

I haven't posted any rants (or anything rly) in ages because life has been getting busier over the last few years and overall- things have been heading in a better direction in general despite the chaos and stresses we all have to deal with in life.
But a specific incident happened which I did not expect and now I'm extremely upset bcs it was something I had been looking forward to + decided to make a commitment to encourage myself to create more often and documenting my progress - making a Youtube channel to upload my art/creative processes, gardening vlogs and other craft/hobbies.
I work a full time job that has nothing related to art/my hobbies and most weeks I barely have any time/energy/braincells left in my spare time to make anything I enjoy. Which is the main reason I haven't been active much on tumblr and instagram, that and the fact that I have very little social energy to keep up with maneuvering between multiple platforms. Social media- just like engaging in social interactions- drain me and exhausts my introverted brain beyond I can explain in words. This was why I decided to go with a video platform like Youtube where I can just record, upload and forget about it but have a place to serve as an archive of things I've made/spent time and effort working on.
So I created a new gmail account and signed up and had my first and brand new Youtube account and channel ready to go last week, I was super excited. I filmed myself doing a brush calligraphy session for around 90 minutes, edited it on my phone and uploaded it. I was super happy and shared the video link with my loved ones only to find that in less than 24 hours since my video went up I got this email notifying that my channel has been terminated:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had no idea what I did to deserve this and all I can say is thanks Youtube for treating a new/small creator like me this way because you obviously don't care.
Can someone please explain to me what have I done that violated their Community Guidelines by posting a video like this- an original longform content made by me of me doing handwriting with a brush in my own living room:
Tumblr media
I have appealed but I have already lost my trust and hope in this platform. I feel wronged and discouraged and I hope nobody goes through the same experience even though apparently it's becoming more and more common for creators all over the place to just wake up one day and find their own channel wrongfully terminated with no reason whatsoever.
If I don't get this channel back I'm not going to attempt this again. Thanks Youtube for your warm welcome and encouragement to a new creator and small artist who had been blindly optimistic about starting a channel to share art with.

nce upon a time, Dharr Mann, a popular YouTuber, woke up to a notification that his channel had been banned for violating the platform's community guidelines. He was devastated, as his channel had been his passion and livelihood for years.
Feeling lost and alone, Dharr Mann decided to take a walk to clear his head. As he was walking, he bumped into Virgil Van Dijk, the famous Dutch footballer, who was out for a jog.
Van Dijk could see that Dharr Mann was upset and asked him what was wrong. Dharr Mann explained the situation, and tears began to well up in his eyes.
Without hesitation, Van Dijk offered to help. He took Dharr Mann back to his home, where he gave him a glass of milk to calm his nerves. He then showed Dharr Mann to a cozy guest bedroom, where he could rest and gather his thoughts.
Dharr Mann was touched by Van Dijk's kindness and cried even harder, but this time, they were tears of gratitude. He couldn't believe that a stranger would show him such kindness and hospitality.
After a good night's sleep, Dharr Mann woke up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. He thanked Van Dijk for his kindness and vowed to get back on his feet and rebuild his channel.
With renewed determination, Dharr Mann set out to create even better content and engage with his fans in a positive way. And although he would never forget the difficult time he went through, he knew that with the support of people like Van Dijk, he could overcome any obstacle that came his way.

YU-NO, the Classic PC-98 Incest Porn That Defined a Generation, Is Worse Than You Think
Tumblr media
Some months ago, over on my website, I wrote a review of the hilariously acclaimed time travel-ish PC-98 porn game YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World. People trip over themselves to worship this thing. Hey, I have room on this Tumblr blog and should not stop promoting writing just 'cause it's not brand new, so here is the opening of my YU-NO review. If you want even more dirty details, please just click the link down near the bottom of the post and read the whole thing (or click here). It is practically a short book.
Tumblr media
In 1996, Elf published the original PC-98 release of YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World, written by Kanno Hiroyuki, revolutionizing “visual novels.” Through its impressive scale and long playtime, YU-NO set expectations of scope and narrative complexity later titles would emulate, or so many sources allege. Mages published an HD remake of YU-NO in 2017, releasing it in English in 2019. This review, however, regards the extraordinary 2011 fan translation by TLWiki, though it is not a review of the translation itself (aside from one decision regarding the graphics). Not “merely” a translation of a lengthy script, the patch transforms the lackluster 2000 Windows port into a version of YU-NO perhaps more definitive than any other, including the full voice acting from and scenes then exclusive to the Sega Saturn release, the uncensored graphics and script of the PC-98 original, and high-quality versions of Umemoto Ryu’s enchanting FM soundtrack. Please take nothing I say to belittle TLWiki’s outstanding effort, one which seems to have vanished from the internet with the emergence of the Mages remake and its graphics bland as stock photography.
Some writeups of YU-NO shower the multiple-award-winning title with cringing adoration as a moving masterpiece and one of the finest video games ever created. I sometimes wonder if I came from an alternate universe, much like happens in YU-NO, where the version of YU-NO I played is a different beast than the one, in an embarrassing Hardcore Gaming 101 article, Audun Sorlie touts as “a true masterpiece” that “remains just as revolutionary as it did in 1996” “not soon to be forgotten or surpassed.” However, the evidence of other people’s gameplay footage, as well as the principle of uniformitarianism, assure me I played the same video game.
I prefer to avoid writing material as negative as what follows. However, on my Mackerel Phones YouTube channel, I have often referenced YU-NO, as in the Time Zone video whose ideas appeared in my head while recovering from YU-NO. So it would be valuable to explain these references. My let’s play of YU-NO and my largely comedic 2020 video “Who’s Afraid of Yu-no?” are no longer online. Their legacy is a community guidelines strike on my channel and me opting to delete several unrelated quality videos for fear of them possibly violating YouTube’s capricious content policies. The loss of this material has spurred me to return to YU-NO for this third and, I pray, final time in this review and the analytical essay I have also posted to mackerelphones.com. So, on my own website where only I can decide how much nudity is acceptable, I decided to speak my piece on YU-NO more at length than in “Who’s Afraid of Yu-no?” I have expended considerable time on this review and with the essay, so please share it with anyone you think may find it interesting.
To begin, I will address what almost no other YU-NO writeup or review (!) mentions. Here is some ad copy used for the 2017 remake from a post on noisypixel.net: “YU-NO tells the story of a love that awaits from beyond this world.” That love is a mysterious naked woman who appears in the Prologue, and Takuya’s true love and true, final sexual partner in the true ending. And she is his biological daughter.
Most of YU-NO serves as a setup for the final section, what I will call the Epilogue, a half-pedophiliac parent–child incest romance story. “A love that awaits you from beyond this world”—is whoever wrote that trolling? Prior to that point, YU-NO was sometimes pretty and, despite gratuitous rape, casual sexism, poor game design, and other problems hardly shocking for some porn adventure game from the ’90s, largely engaging. But the incestuous finale transforms YU-NO from an unfortunate product of its time into the worst trash I ever made the mistake of playing. When I seem to say anything positive about YU-NO later on, please keep in mind this caveat.
Tumblr media
The above screenshot is our hero Takuya making out with his daughter in the Prologue.
Tumblr media
“Papa… You’re getting stiff…” Our hero, everybody! (Granted, in this particular scene, he is apparently not actually getting stiff. It is only in the next scene his daughter is trying to get into his pants.)
As the credits rolled and I processed these tens of hours of my life, I felt the unhinged Epilogue had come out of nowhere. Sometimes people describe a story as “firing on all cylinders.” YU-NO’s ending fizzles out and dies on all cylinders, casting a pall over what came before. For endings never emerge from nothing. The Prologue opens with player character Arima Takuya remembering his own father considering him a sexual rival for his mother in his infancy (!) and concludes with Takuya making out with his daughter from the future (!). The player then embarks on a quest whose goal turns out to be having sex with their daughter whom the player raises from infancy in-game to really hammer home that, yes, this is your kid and you should really want to bone your kid. See this actual baby, your actual baby? the script seems to say—you better dream of pounding her pussy.
Tumblr media
“Just look at these puffy cheeks. There just has to be something stuffed inside of there.” Her cheeks are quite clearly not puffy.
This epic-scale tale hailed as enthralling and beautiful ends with Takuya choosing to abandon the community, friends, and family the player has spent tens of hours getting invested in to instead spend the rest of his life alone at the beginning of time having sex with his vapid shrill-voiced mommy-child-wife with a child’s brain in an adult’s body who just so, so wants to sniff and fuck her dad. Her name? Yu-no.
Tumblr media
YU-NO, then, may as well be entitled Fuck Your Daughter Quest. This is the ending, the point of YU-NO set out in the very title. That elf child on the cover is supposed to turn you on. Player self-insert Takuya says over an image of full-frontal child nudity, “she started becoming well-fleshed in all the pivotal positions, making me unsure of where to rest my eyes. Even if it’s your own daughter, it’s still a naked girl running around in front of you. It’s hard to just shut down your instincts.”
Tumblr media
The above is the one screenshot I censor in the post on my website. Every person who preaches about how great YU-NO is or dares defend Takuya has to answer for this shit.
I hope this isn’t what the reviewer on noisypixel.com meant when the praising the sugary-sweet raise-and-fuck-your-daughter ending route for “having a reasonably shocking twist” (I can think of only one other twist, the Ayumi spit-take I describe in the section of my review titled “The Worst Ending of All Time”). Retroactively, characters asking Takuya what his plans for the future might be or even showing him trust send a chill down one’s spine. When, in the Prologue, his stepmother Ayumi tells Takuya that her wish is “for [him] to walk wholeheartedly on the path [he chooses,]” this path is abandoning the rest of humanity to become his own daughter’s sexual partner. I am tempted to say a human writer, but out of respect for Kanno, I will say a good writer would craft this scenario as a visceral condemnation of Takuya. But, with sappy romantic music and sappier writing, YU-NO depicts this relationship as aspirational. This must be that “revolutionary” quality Sorlie refers to. I can’t think of anything else quite like it!
That Sorlie glosses over the story being about how incestuous love saves the universe as YU-NO being “cerebral in the ways it challenges morals and logic” is laughable. Let us read some of that “cerebral” dialogue challenging conventional morality:
Tumblr media
YU-NO: “Why can’t parent and child make love to each other?”
Tumblr media
TAKUYA: “T-that’s, well… hmm, I wonder why.”
Takuya concludes that because there are no laws against it in the parallel world he is in, parent–child incest is acceptable. Really makes you think. Dostoevsky got nothing on this ponderous philosophizing. Move over, Bataille—my notions of morality can never recover from such a thoroughgoing attack. /s
***
Here ends this preview of the full post. A sample of some of the sweet, sweet sentences further in my review:
The Epilogue of YU-NO warrants special treatment. Sorlie calls it “one of the most exhilarating and incredible experiences you will ever have while playing a video game”—a scathing indictment of video games. I admit I was not so exhilarated with Takuya’s pet-like wife Sayless who looks identical to his mom or Takuya perving over his kid when she is twelve (!) or Takuya taking the side of the theocratic dictatorship that enslaves him and kills his wife or Takuya failing to save the day while other actually interesting characters (plus Yu-no) suffer and die to stop Ryuuzouji’s evil plot to destroy the universe. I guess that shows I am one of those “sensitive gamers” whom Sorlie cautions might be weirded out by the cerebral power of the badly plotted incest porn isekai. (To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand YU-NO…)
This is just the beginning of my long and girthy YU-NO review in which I break down my all-time least favorite video game like I am piranha solution. There is MUCH more to it, and it is really funny imo, so please check it out over on my website (though maybe not if you’re in a place where seeing some nudity would be inappropriate). And please reblog this if you think your followers could use a good splash of water to the face. Or might find it interesting, whichever.

AITA for telling my boyfriend that his dreams of becoming a successful streamer/content creator isn't going to work out the way he thinks?
I'm a tattoo artist and piercer. I co-own and run a tattoo/piercing business with a friend and I have many employees under me. We are open 6 days a week from 1PM to midnight. 4 days are a regular appointment schedule, while the final 2 days of the work week are walk-in days for people who want something faster than usual without having to set up a time. On top of setting up and closing the shop every day, I drive 45 minutes to work and then 45 minutes home each day. I get home past 3AM almost every night, eat, and then sleep a few hours. We are busy constantly throughout the week. I only have one day off and I usually end up spending it cleaning the house, cooking or doing anything else needed done.
My boyfriend, on the other hand, is trying to become a successful Twitch streamer and Youtuber. He started around 4 years ago. He has a few dozen followers on both platforms and usually has around 2 to 5 viewers for each stream or video. It's gotten pretty bad in the past 2 1/2 years or so though. He streams while I'm at work and that'll usually be an 11 to 13 hour stream a day depending on what he does. His life revolves around content creation now. He wakes up to stream, then spends all day streaming a game and then uploads it to Youtube. The other problem with it is that in the 4 years he's been trying to do this he hasn't worked a single job. He's unemployed. No single donation or any monetary expense has come from his endeavor. He literally does nothing but stream. He quit his floor manager job at Walmart to become this.
I've talked to him recently about maybe cutting down the hours on his streams so he has time to do stuff around the house, spend time with me, or better his health. He doesn't even eat unless I remind him when I get home late. It's literally hurting him. I also explained that maybe he should think about getting a new job so I'm not the only one paying all the bills or groceries. I'd like help of any kind. I can't do all this alone anymore. Each one of these talks has turned into a fight between us. He will get super defensive about it and tell me off. He tries to convince me that I don't understand his "lifestyle" and that "I don't know how hard it is to be a content creator". It's gotten more and more heated. He'll have a tantrum and go back to streaming to his "community that supports him".
The other day, I straight up told him his dreams of being a successful streamer or content creator of any kind were never going to work out the way he thinks they are. He doesn't seem to understand that the hours he's putting in are doing more harm than good. For us and him. He had another tantrum, and promptly told me he wanted a break from the relationship. We aren't talking and now he's doing nothing but the same usual routine.

Navigating the Pandemic: How Social Media is Shaping Malaysia's COVID-19 Response
In the era of digital communication, social media has become an indispensable tool for sharing information, connecting people, and shaping public opinion. When it comes to public health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of social media in disseminating information and fostering a sense of community cannot be overstated. In this blog, I will delve into how social media has been used to spread information about COVID-19 in Malaysia and its impact on the country's response to the pandemic. The Power of Social Media during the Pandemic Social media platforms have kept Malaysians informed and engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some ways in which these platforms have been beneficial: 1. Real-time Updates Social media allows the dissemination of real-time information. Government healthcare agencies such as Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia and health experts like Noor Hisham Abdullah have used platforms like Twitter and Facebook to share updates on COVID-19 cases, vaccination schedules, and safety guidelines. This immediate access to information has empowered Malaysians to make informed decisions and stay safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Community Support Online communities, such as "Caremongering Malaysia - Community Response to COVID19" (a Facebook group), have emerged as platforms where Malaysians share experiences, concerns, and support. These communities have helped individuals navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic, from finding essential supplies to accessing mental health resources. This showcases the power of digital communities in fostering solidarity during times of crisis.
Tumblr media
3. Myths or Misinformation Debunking Social media has been instrumental in debunking COVID-19-related myths and misinformation. It has provided a platform for experts to counter false claims and share scientific knowledge, ultimately contributing to a more informed public. For example, "Sarawak Disaster Information" on their Facebook page has actively clarified misinformation, such as the false news claiming that the State Government of Sarawak initiated a challenge for the public to have 3 days of total lockdown.
Tumblr media
4. Government Engagement Malaysian government agencies and officials have actively used platforms like Instagram and YouTube to engage with the public. Through informative videos and interactive sessions, they have addressed concerns and explained the government's strategies to combat the pandemic. This interactive approach on social media highlights the government's commitment to transparent communication and building trust within the digital community, effectively bridging the gap between authorities and the public. 5. Vaccination Campaigns The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in Malaysia received extensive coverage on social media. Vaccine selfies have encouraged others to get vaccinated, fostering a sense of community responsibility. These campaigns have increased vaccination rates and demonstrated the power of social media in creating a united front against the pandemic, showing how digital communities can unite for a common cause.
Tumblr media
Challenges and Dangers of Social Media
While social media has been an invaluable tool for spreading information about COVID-19, there are also challenges and dangers associated with its use: 1. Misinformation The same platforms that help debunk myths also spread them. Misinformation can be disseminated quickly, making it essential for users to critically evaluate the sources of information. Therefore, as users, we must be vigilant and responsible in curating and sharing information, recognizing the need for fact-checking within digital communities.
Tumblr media
2. Anxiety & Fatigue The constant influx of information can be overwhelming, leading to information fatigue and anxiety. Research shows that a significant portion of users experience panic attacks, and social media plays a substantial role in spreading inaccurate information (Lelisho et al. 2022, pp. 125-136). Therefore, as users, we must find a balance between staying informed and preserving our mental health.
The Conversation Aspect Public health campaigns on social media can be one-way communication and a conversation. While official channels primarily disseminate information, they often encourage user engagement through comments, likes, and shares. Interactive elements like Q&A sessions, polls, and live streams foster two-way communication and allow the public to seek clarification and share their concerns. This dynamic interaction within digital communities ensures that public health campaigns are not just about information dissemination but also about engaging with and addressing the community's concerns.
Tumblr media
Conclusion Social media has proven to be a powerful tool in spreading information about COVID-19 in Malaysia. It has enabled real-time updates, fostered a sense of community, and engaged the public in critical conversations. However, the reliance on social media also comes with challenges, such as the spread of misinformation and privacy concerns. To maximize its potential, it's essential to use social media thoughtfully, critically evaluate information, and engage in constructive dialogue, turning it into a force for positive change in public health campaigns.

Rand Paul Urges U.S. To Stay Hands Off Over Gaza Attack
Tumblr media
Senator Rand Paul offered a voice of reason Monday cautioning that the U.S. should “see where the facts lie” before rushing into any military response to the Hamas attack in Gaza.
While other Republicans, including Lindsey Graham, urged that Iran’s nuclear and energy facilities should be bombed, Paul noted that there has been a history of the U.S. using such events as pretexts to start conflicts that were not ultimately in the best interest of the nation.
