Old men divorce!!!

They're old men who made their divorce the problem of every young person in their lives <3. 100 years ago during the Great Turf War between inklings and octarians, Craig and Octavio were the chosen ambassadors of their respective species. They got along well, but unfortunately found themselves on opposite sides of the war. During one of the battles Craig shot Octavio in the heart. The inlkings won the war and the octarians were forced underground. For years afterward both men grew bitter towards each other, and eventually Octavio attacked the new Squidbeak Splatoon (a group of secret agents recruited by Craig). Octavio lost both times and got imprisoned in a giant snow globe (and Craig calls him cute). In the latest game Octavio got over his hatred for Inklings (Craig's species) and used his flying mech to help defeat the BBEG of the game. After the final fight, Craig said something to the effect of 'that old rascal turned out to be not so bad!'.

Alright ok hear me out! These two old men have fought in wars for their races against each other and have the craziest pathetic old man homoerotic tension ever. They like, went from at least respecting each other before the war and then they were forced to fight each other and then when Cuttlefish's side won, Octavio went underground like a pathetic lil wet cat and later on he kidnapped Cuttlefish because of game related reasons and both of them still have way too much homoerotic tension!!! And then Octavio gets owned and then in the second game Octavio decides that "Hey actually, lets kidnap Cuttlefish's granddaughter" and the old man isnt even there cause hes busy being a pathetic old man in the under-underground!!! And in the third game they go fron rival/enemies to reluctantly working together to save the world from actual extinction bc some durry bitch wants to cover it in fuzzy ooze and like, both of them have so much old man ship potential and just- theyre still pining for each other even after over a 100 years man,,,,

I personally headcanon Cap'n Cuttlefish as homophobic, but I see the ship a lot and think it's funny.

They fought in the Great Turf War which was said to be over 100 years ago, Capn Cuttlefish was, well, a captain I believe (he had some sort of rank even if he wasn't a captain, like he led a battle that's singled out in the sunken scrolls of the first game). they act so divorced in the singleplayer mode like they cannot stop insulting each other specifically but octavio always comes back and like kidnaps or insults captain cuttlefish it's so. and when the great zapfish gets stolen in splatoon 3 captain cuttlefish is like "it's the octarians again i know it" like divorced behavior. also it wasn't this time and octavio gets super weird about it. maybe you should stop using children as props in your drama though.

Splatoon Mech AU Infodump

AU Overview:

The use of Zapfish quickly modernized Inkfish society prior to the Great Turf War. Inklings quickly caught up with the Octarians tentacle and Zapfish infused machines, although still lacked technological finesse. The rising sea levels and struggle for land led to the two societies clashing. Mech battles raged across the scarce land that was left. Desperate to win, the Inklings poured everything they had into one Mech: Zeus. Powered by the Great Zapfish and manned by Captain Cuttlefish; the Mech overwhelmed the opposing Octarians, and eventually King Octavio, but at a price; the power surging through Zeus caused permanent damage to both Cuttlefish and Octavio, leaving them unable to transform from humanoid and swim form freely.

As a result of the war, Mechs were outlawed. Anyone caught owning, builing or engineering one were arrested. This hasn't stopped the youth from pursuing Mech races and battles in the underground Octarian domes and hangars, however... The allure and excitement has attracted every walk of life, including former Driver Captain Cuttlefish, who seems to be looking for a young Driver for a special mission...

Mech Mechanics:

Modern mechs use motion sense technology to pilot the mechs. Inkfish attach motion sensor rings to their wrists and ankles to control the movement of their mech. A rotating arm holds the Driver in place by supporting them around their waist so they can freely move their arms and legs.

Old Tech mechs use manual inputs from levers and buttons. Usually cramped sitting conditions with lots of buttons and levers surrounding the Driver. Some have pedals in the foot bay.

Transforms into a motorcycle with rollers for wheels in pursuit mode

These relics from the Great Turf War serve as a potent reminder of the tensions that ran between Inklings and Octarians. Thankfully relations have improved between the two factions. Occasionally, things get out of hand and end up breaching to the surface where opponents have to out manoeuvre their opposition and the law.

idk how you feel about headcanon asks, but what do you think Octavio and Cuttlefish's favorite weapons would be out of the modern splatoon arsenal? (ignoring that they'd probably perfer their own weapons over what we have lol)

So it all really depends on if you're talking about their younger or older selves, since I'm not sure, we'll just do both!

Craig is the easiest, as both young and old I think he'd pick his Bamboozler over anything else, even if presented with other options.

They say the right pair of hands can make any weapon work and if there's a man alive who can turn an otherwise slightly underwhelming gun into a terrifying force of nature it's Craig motherfucking Cuttlefish. He'd be one of those all attack up gear + Bamboozler bastards who used to wreck shop back in the day I guarantee it

Octavio is a little more complicated, in his youth with his size, speed, and focus on melee damage, I believe he'd be a killer Octobrush main, man would be practically untouchable.

This changed in the wake of the War however, as the extensive damage to his dominant arm means he can no longer use melee weapons, especially ones as bulky as brushes.

Now due to his advanced age and injuries catching up to him, he's not the most mobile combatant either. I considered that he might get a little mileage out of a splatana due to his experience in melee combat but his lack of speed and likely needing to use his non dominant arm would make the effectiveness limited at best.

So I had to stick to a gun, and sticking to the large damage output he'd prefer while balancing the recoil I have settled on a Tentabrella

Good damage, decent fire rate, and the ability to guard if necessary. Plus the mental image of this man with a shotgun is hilarious.

Although in all honesty, if you were to engage him in head to head ground combat nowadays I feel like he'd be far more likely to just forgo the weapon entirely and throw himself at you n' beat the shit outta you.

Now all we gotta do is present em with the Grizzco variants of their weapons and watch the carnage
