Comfort time with the Papas

These are just little comfort headcanons that I came up with, this should be gn! reader because I don't mention any pronouns. I hope you like them Tony <3 All of these are romantic but if anyone wants a platonic or spicy version let me know. Please be gentle, this is my first Ghost fic. Enjoy!

Primo- With Primo, I imagine you two often peacefully coexist in his garden. Whether it be that he is teaching you how to garden and the differences in all of his plants, or you already know about gardening and he trusts you to help. These early mornings or evenings allow you both to just spend time together without having to fill the silence. You always make sure that he actually takes breaks and doesn't push himself too far. You guys only work for maybe an hour or so, nothing strenuous, and after you walk back to your shared rooms hand in hand. After you guys clean up, sharing sweet kisses or hugs depending on what you are comfortable with, he asks you if you want a drink. If you are a tea person, he makes you an absolutely lovely cup of tea ( from leaves that he grew himself, we love a girlboss). If you aren't a tea person he will make you anything that you want, even learn how to make your favorite drink. With your drinks, you cuddle either in bed with a good book or watch a movie that you both like.  All in all, you both enjoy a sweet calm evening after your long often hectic days. He always is generous with his affection, whether that be kisses and cuddling or letting you talk and being there for you physically and emotionally. Primo just wants his darling to be happy and healthy and will do anything to make that happen( even if you have to convince him to get a TV or any new technology in his room). He is simply grateful and honored that he gets to share these sweet moments with you and to let his heart be full of love and affection. Primo is a sweetheart and I just wanna kiss his forehead <3

Secondo- With Secondo, I imagine that he is used to filling his free time with carnal acts of all kinds, which is perfectly fine but we are not focusing on that today. I think that like his older brother, Secondo would crave domestic normalcy and would never pass it up. I imagine you found out about his hobby after he realized that you were interested in more than one night with him. I can see you finding his paintings and asking him if it would be okay if you joined him, and of course, he would want you to join him. He may be more stoic in some aspects than his brothers, but this man has so much affection to give you. Regardless of your skill level, he is going to treasure any and every painting you make with him. I can imagine him either keeping them in your shared room or creating a little gallery that he keeps on his phone( yes he has one but you might have to help him with it sometimes). After you guys have decided to finish painting one evening, you guys clean up and he offers to make you a drink. If you aren't a big fan of alcohol, he has different mocktails, Italian sodas, or anything else you would like. You two would probably cuddle up on the couch or in bed, either enjoying each other's company with a good book, listening to music, or maybe even a movie. Secondo is happy to share the evening with you in any way that you want. He simply just loves to bask in the sweet affection that you two share and remind himself that he deserves this love <3

Terzo- I imagine that quality time with Terzo can be many things. Like his older brother, he enjoys carnal acts, but also just existing together. I imagine that you two would spend some of your free time baking together. Terzo may be clumsy at times but he enjoys baking, especially if he has a personal taste tester. He would love to have you help him or just simply watch him enjoy his process. He loves to fill the time by asking you about your day, what you are excited or upset about, and anything that you would like to talk about. During all of it, he just has a sweet love drunk smile on his face. When whatever he was making is finally ready for you both to eat, he makes sure to give you the first bite, and he wants you to be honest about the taste, texture, and overall experience. He is extremely interested in your thoughts and loves to hear you in general. He always makes sure to take note of your criticism or praise so that if he ever recreates or remakes anything it is the same quality or better. After you two have shared your little treat, he likes to make you a hot chocolate. I know he might not seem like the type, but I know in my heart that he enjoys hot cocoa. Makes it from scratch every time and uses the same recipe that Primo used when he and Secondo were little. Adds any toppings that you like to yours and insist that he made it with love. You both cuddle and enjoy your delicious hot cocoa with either him reading you a book, you reading him one, enjoying some music, or a movie that you enjoy. He adores these evenings where you both can be yourselves, with no expectations or chores to do. You both just get to be close and love each other and know that you are cherished by your beloved Papa <3

Copia-  With Copia, I just have to mention his beloved rat babies. If you are in love with Copia I just imagine you spending the little downtime he allows himself to be with his sweet fur babies. You two are just sitting with them all, giving them the love, treats, and attention that each little cutie deserves. He loves this, he gets to not only decompress and relax with his Amore but he also gets to be with his beloved pets. The rats all have their personalities and love to run around you both, so happy that you are home. If you wear hoodies or =clothing with bigger pockets they love to crawl in and take little naps with their beloved parents because congratulations you are the co-parent to these little rats. After they have their food, cuddles, zoomies, and a few snacks they go back into their cage to rest and cuddle with each other. With your kids all in bed, you both get ready for bed yourselves. You either help Copia with his Papal paints if he hasn't already taken them off or maybe take a quick shower together or separately. Either way, when you both are ready to relax for the evening you grab some of Copia's beloved Juice boxes and relax in bed. Whether your evening ends with playing some video games, watching him play or you both playing, watching a movie, or just cuddling in bed before you sleep, Copia reminds you just how much he adores you. This is where he can let himself be Copia, not just Papa and he is so grateful that you see the real him. He loves to spend his evenings with his favorite person, all cuddled up and cozy in bed, knowing that he is loved and adored.<3

GoTron Was Another Summer Best (another Summer yap session)

Let's start with one thing. I felt generous and tried to watch Rickdependence Spray. I turned it off after 10 seconds. In fact, I paused after I saw that horse breeder thing for longer than I watched the intro Tried watching the Thanksgiving episode which was, just fine. Although nothing Summer caught my eye. I did this to finish up Season 5 but it was not worth it

You know WHAT was worth it, though? And what a few of you guys recommended?

'GoTron Jerrysis Rickvangelion'

I now see why this was recommended to me, and by the way it means a lot that most of you guys want me to write about Summer :3

It's almost Summer's episode, focused on her dynamic with Rick too and how it can clash with Morty

(FYI the wiki doesn't have a gallery for this episode I literally will rely on Google for this shit)

Right from the start we see that Summer is basically Rick's right-hand man. I know many people have pointed out (and it's outright said) that Summer is enabling Rick's obsession, which is explained IN the episode and something I'll return to later. Part of this episode is not only her relationship with Rick but with herself. Morty sees this as some sort of sabotage when Rick goes with her opinion and sees Morty as sort of an enemy for not going with what he wanted

She not only LITERALLY becomes a right-hand to the GoTron itself but oversees these Rick meetings instead of just hanging out with the other Summers. I mentioned the fact that Summer holds family in such a high regard. Whether or not they did this because this was also a Goodfellas parody, any good parody utilizes its characters purposefully, so I think it still works. There's also several lines where Summer talks about keeping the family close, and considering the blog I wrote about Rickmancing the Stone that mentions her being the glue that keeps the family together...yeah. When I say she's consistent and has a clear arc, it's because I managed to break her down and see the same attributes pop up here explicitly

Rick congratulates Summer for being the one reason he's even doing this GoTron shit and calls her a queen (queef first tho). Considering Season 7 where he says Summer reminds him of Diane, every time he cherishes Summer it's very genuine and because of how special and important she is to him

I know that the plot was hinging on Morty pointing out Summer being a negative influence but I still understood what she was going for. If my points sound hollow, it's because from now on I don't want to sound like a broken record whenever I mention the words 'Family' and 'Summer'

Like I said I was not a fan of Naruto and the fact that this show says the phrase 'giant incest space baby' more than once, which no show should ever do. But when Summer talks about how lonely she feels, it felt fitting. Sure, it's a...gross incest baby, but Summer felt basic motherly instincts kick on. She also wanted him to escape from there because she knows about the literal feeling of being cooped up. Like...how often does Summer go out?

With whatever friends she has she usually just stays inside. I am writing this AS I'M COOPED UP INSIDE AS PER USUAL I'D KILL SOMEONE TO GO OUT. The point being that avoiding this is something she actively does. That's why she was surprised her mom didn't originally want to use the GoTron Ferrets and why she kept enabling Rick. It's not an agenda, she just wants to bond more and go out more

However, I want to know - does this contradict 'Big Trouble in Little Sanchez'? I bring this up because it's an episode where they're supposed to be bonding and Summer is rational enough to know Rick is being harmed, yet everyone hates her for it. Why didn't Summer stop enabling Rick if it meant he would've been obsessed further? In that episode, it quite literally was killing Rick. Here, different universe versions of the Smith family come together as if to emphasize the point further. The actual issues were ones that Summer weren't aware of, but I just bring this up because no, this doesn't contradict any earlier episodes. Plus, Summer is obviously changing

Also, Summer's speech was fucking amazing. She mentions how lonely she feels in her OWN FAMILY because she has no one and went with Naruto, which is also temporary. She'll take any chance to bond with anyone

To wrap this up - Summer's place in this episode IS the crux of the plot. The family is brought together in more ways than one, with the robots and alternate universes coming together. This also makes sense with Rick having Morty and Beth having Jerry 'naturally', so to speak. If these people have each other, who does Summer have?

Her family

And even if she doesn't have ONE person to always fall back on (as she tends to be around Rick AND Morty), she'll be the one that chooses to keep everyone together. What I said in 'Rickmancing the Stone' and the trilogy I analyzed was true, Summer is the glue that keeps the family together

last year i wrote a list of media that touched me. bcs i have shit for memory i was noting down things i watched, played etc. this year. so here's the list.

the city and the city by china miéville - loved it...

the longing - idle game that felt quite promising in the beginning. you play as a lonely shade that has to wait 400 days for his king to wake up. it can get kinda weird and idk how i feel about this anymore.

rain dogs - extremely bleak life circumstances, intense toxic friendship. 'fast food isn't good for you. but i fucking love it'

deadwood - very intriguing way of plotting a story of a settlement but some things abt were fucking stupid and i'm still frustrated when i think abt it. haven't finished the final season and i don't really feel like it.

vanished birds <- read this or else

dungeon meshi - most beautiful art with dynamically drawn creatures and beasts that then get shown being cooked into delicious (and nutricious!) meals in great detail. setting is a spoof of a stereotypical party adventure world but it tries to make sense of its rules and creates in turn something quite unique. great characters too.

wuthering heights - extremely good narrative device. never knew that we learn this story through a tale being told by a servant to some cringey guy. surprisingly well depicted psychology of the characters. reading abt child abuse upset me so bad. society will fuck you up. some ways to better your lot are closed to you based on your gender and race. fucking up people over generations. also moors. they're important.

ghost in the shell

barry - the fact that the show never lets him forget. the satire on show biz, loving the veterans. it's like a more clownish version of breaking bad in a way (both being concerned with morality). characters are caritaturish but everything they do is taken extremely seriously. also it's quite inventive with filmography. solid. loved it.

sangfielle - weird fiction arc of FaTT podcast.. extremely good setting

andor - they didn't lie when they said star wars can be good. abt opression and imperialism.. and droids done well.

repo man - plotted in a very fun way... unforgettable ending.

hellraiser - it was so promising. shouldn't have turned into tense rubic cube solving under most dire circumstances ever imo.

bg3 - the themes have made me insane. it managed to be cohesive. it's the. carousel of violence. cycle of abuse. relationship with power. trusting the other not to use violence against (even though they could). male manipulators. the dark urge. it's not without its faults and it should have been tighter (durge should be the main protag and no tav, chop down act 1, erase halsin)

the terror - such a mixed bag. a very good and tense thriller about imperialistic hubris but. they put a beast there. and the villain was??? idk man.

iasip (well technically i've been trying to watch it for years, but this year alone i watched like 4 seasons or maybe more) - i simply love iasip. its style of comedy that is irreverent. the mad schemes. awful dynamics. touching real darkness.

blowback (podcast) - about american imperialism. first season abt iraq war tone-wise feels like if behind the bastards and citations needed had a baby. recommended.

roadwarden - loved it. loved the setting!

anyway... i kinda stopped reading books after i quit my job (no longer commuting somewhere regularly so i stopped using my kindle). had plans to watch more movies but it's always a struggle to sit down and start watching. went to more than 0 galleries but not that many tbh. i sometimes don't know what to say and most of my comments are still pretty general and feel trite.

Jervis - No one knows but he actually enjoys getting his hands dirty in the garden although if Pamela were to find out she would surely have his head.

Jonathan - Since Scarecrow and Jonathan are not the same person (Jonathan has DID) they will have separate answers. Jonathan does not consider himself a man interested in anything but his work but unexpectantly has taken a liking to knitting after the numerous times he's had to patch up his costume.

Scarecrow - Like Jonathan, it does not have many hobbies outside of terrorizing people. It is a very simple creature.

Edward - Not often, but Edward enjoys singing when left to his own devices. Unlike Jonathan, Edward doesn't mind being heard while singing and finds his own voice rather charming. Not that he considers himself a master by any means, but a gifted beginner is more like it. He's also a competitive Tetris player but that's probably not unexpected.

Selina - She's pretty predictable. I'm sure everyone expects that she prefers to spend her free time alone with her cats. She will never admit it but she does enjoy the times when she's hanging out with Harley and Ivy. Bruce she's very keen on conversing with. Edward she doesn't mind having a bit of fun with him. Take that how you will.

Harley - I don't think I've mentioned it before anywhere but Harley belongs to a clown band as a guitarist. She plays the electric guitar to be more specific. So when her and Ivy or Joker aren't up to their usual antics she's probably with the band.

Pamela - Pamela doesn't have a life outside of her plants, something her and Jonathan can agree on for once. They are both endlessly devoted to their work. Although there is a certain distraction dressed in black and red that draws her attention away from her plants for a little bit.

Joker - Even an agent of chaos has to rest sometimes. What would Gotham do if their favorite Clown Prince of Crime got burnt out and ran out of ideas? Since my versions of Harley and Joker don't have them in an abusive relationship (they are best friends) they like to hang out together, they're roommates after all. They may commit smaller crimes in their spare time like putting graffiti on a brick wall. Occasionally he'll send love letters to Batsy if he really wants a laugh.

Harvey/Twoface - These two can hardly agree on anything without the help of their trusty little coin. But when they can agree on something they can do wonders. Such as dancing! Their go-to dance style is the two-step. A bit difficult for them considering they would need an extra person to make it less awkward but they have fun nonetheless.

Oswald - Few people have heard him (those people include his mother, Harvey, and Edward) but he's quite a talented self-taught violin player.

Abner (Polka-Dot Man) - This man loves to collect those chewy bouncy balls you'd get in kindergarten. He has a whole box full of them.

Victor F - I can't imagine this man would have many if any hobbies in his current state. He used to play the piano for Nora but that is something of the past now. Perhaps one day he'll be able to play for her again.

Otis (Ratcatcher) - She loves putting together collages from magazines that she finds in the trash or on the streets!

Bane - I haven't finalized my design for him yet but Bane is 100% a stuffed animal collector. Usually of the teddy bear variety.

Waylon - He's a mighty good banjo player. Took him a while to find one where his claws wouldn't tear apart the string. He has Edward to thank for finding it for him.

Kirk - Honestly, Manbat is pretty content to simply hang out with Ratcatcher and Waylon in the sewers or any other place that isn't crawling with people. Gotham citizens can often see a giant bat figure flying in the skies and they don't know if it's Batman or Manbat. Most often it's Batman but sometimes Manbat will come out of hiding to stretch his wings.

Other reasons 

This will be sort of a rapid fire appreciation round so lets start off with Robo Ky mk2 who was a character exclusive to guilty gear isuka which was essentially smash bros but an actual fighting game. Something fully unique in this game and its ds version Dust Strikers is that you could fully customize your own Robo Ky mk 2 to give him any move in the game like potemkin buster or even moves like glitter is gold and ALL of them have unique animations. The animation team was essentially challenged to make either magical moves technical or random stuff made into things that made sense within this games context and they absolutely nailed it, for example, millia’s bad moon turns into a banana, testaments Zeinest turns into gum and so many more. I’ll include a video showing them all off in the description that I highly recommend you watch because some of these are absolutely beautiful. Another reason I like Robo Ky is just because he gives me the most laughs when playing him. For context, I typically main funny fighters in my games so faust in Xrd and Strive or guys like kuma in tekken and twelve in street fighter. While I do enjoy taking matches seriously, at the end of the day im here for a good time and Robo Ky always makes me laugh just with his fun gameplay and unorthodox moveset. In general i can't quite think of a character that i like playing more than Robo Ky which is saying a lot because i hop between characters a lot so if i stick to JUST one, that's impressive for someone like me. In general i also just like robot characters so the minute you tell me i can play a funny robot which an actually fun moveset, i'm all in. hes my most wanted fighter for STRIVE after all and while yeah, his story is basically wrapped up i would still love to see him return. Daisuke IS willing to bring back dead characters if it makes sense within the story and he wanted to put him in rev 2 but didn't due to how complex his moveset is so hey, i still have my hopes up. But yeah, that's everything extra i wanted to bring up about Robo Ky, for now at least.

Conclusions

So yeah, now you know why Robo Ky is my favorite character in media. Are there better picks? Probably,I mean I still love faust, bedman, venom and other characters in general and most of them have more story than Robo Ky so realistically i should be more attached to them and yet here i am, going on for over 4,000 words about why i love the silly robot guy. But I guess, he just clicked with me. I get a weird sense of happiness when i play him in accent core, see art of him, read the drama cd, watch the xrd cutscenes with him and even when i listen to his theme Holy Orders? Which is just ky’s theme but distorted, that is also another reason why i love him but i think this video has gone on long enough. To close out, I want to say that final line in the battle with bedman as it has remained as a quote I hold close to the heart. “Remember...you never laugh at another person's dreams. Words from the wise. If you follow this rule there's no need for such elaborate ideologies. People may disagree or even fight… but above all, they can connect. You just need to cool off for a bit.”

VG Character Cards #08 - Donkey Kong Jr.

Ah, the follow up to Donkey Kong... I actually think DK Jr. is a better game than Donkey Kong, especially the NES version, since it didn't have to make as many compromises as the NES one did, which squashed the levels and cut out the entire 2nd level ( pssst, the special edition they released on the 3DS got dumped btw )

It felt like they expected Junior to go far given the amount of promotional material and merchandise he got, appearing on cereal boxes and in a TV show, and he had far more cameo appearances than his Papa thanks to Mario Kart and Game and Watch Gallery. But alas, Poor Junior seems to have been phased out of canon. He had a come back in that Mario Kart phone game but it was just a flat pixel character, more of a joke than a real come back i'd say, so I don't count it.

Some say our current Donkey Kong is this guy grown up, but you all know how I feel about the Cranky Kong = '81 Donkey Kong lore.

I had a real nostalgia trip the last few hours so storytime...

Back in 2007, when I was a young college freshman, just learning how to be an independent adult (pffft hahahaha), I used to post to y!Gallery. I didn't have a specific fandom that I really wanted to draw for. I just wanted to explore gay smut and lemme tell you, the aughts was a helluva time to be growing up with the internet.

Then I came across Spy vs Spy. I never thought I'd get so enamored with a comic from MAD magazine, but hey, Mountain Dew commercials were surprisingly influential??

I know what you're thinking: These guys are supposed to be Black Spy and White Spy? I drew them stylized at one point because I got tired of one salty user's subtweet in an SvS club. I'm likely going to try another version that's more faithful to the classic Prohias style, but seriously, I like interpreting character designs from simplified shapes.

Moral of the story? Don't let some disgruntled asshat's comments get in the way of your joy. ʅ(ツ)ʃ

Fastforward to 2023, I got inspired to look up an online author who wrote one of my most favorite SvS fic after I found my first attempt at drawing a comic adaptation. So many complicated but positive feelings came up when I saw the familiar icon and the same comic page that I made on a Wacom Bamboo and Adobe Photoshop Elements... And that's how we got to this redraw :)

Ok. Another disappointing figure event. I'm just not into as much anime as I used to be, for me to even recognize most of these characters, let alone to be attached to them enough to want to buy their Nendoroids.

I feel like until I get FE3H Claude and Dimitri Nendoroids, I just can't get excited about any new figures. Because any new figures just feel like money I could be saving for FE3H Nendoroids…if they eventually come. But I've spent so many years collecting, where I thought a series I liked wouldn't get Nendoroids, so I splurged on other merch, and then Nendoroids for that series would get announced. It just KEPT HAPPENING. So I don't know why FE3H is not following suit. Intelligent Systems even said they'd be participating in WonHobby37! FE3H has a lot of great designs! They'd make wonderful figures! On par with all these Vtubers and Fate characters I don't know. But I guess that's the thing: all these characters are likely very popular, and I'm just out of the loop. -_- I'm sure there are lots of people who have been happy with many of these announcements. Just like the past several WonHobbys that didn't have FE3H Nendos. But I feel like, all this time I've been holding out for FE3H Nendos, anything that isn't Claude and Dimitri, I just can't get excited over, enough to spend money on. My OTP has raised a high bar. If this keeps happening, I'll just stop being excited about Nendoroid collecting and figure collecting IN GENERAL. I can see that happening to me eventually. I'm kind of scared, because I feel bad for all the past hobbies/collecting I've dropped off from: manga, anime, comic books, dragons, etc. These things used to be MY WHOLE WORLD. Maybe I just need to get back into buying figures, so I don't lose a love for this hobby. Just throw money away on characters I'm not even that obsessed with. Because barely anything will rival Dimiclaude at this point; I shouldn't adhere to just that bar. I shouldn't have passed up those figures I wanted from last month's Memorial Day sale. Those were BIG discounts. I could have gotten that Horimiya Nendo's hair, for only $30, painted it yellow, made it into a custom Nendo Dimitri. I should have gotten Nendo Donatello. And those plushies for Code Geass and Guilty Gear. Well, I guess the Guilty Gear preorders are still open.

But still, when it comes to new announcements, I can't help feeling that so many WonHobbys in a row, where I wasn't too interested in anything…makes me feel like I'm getting out of figure collecting.

Well, that's that. Disappointed. Big time. AGAIN. I set myself up for disappointment, and I get disappointment. x_x;;;;;

Welcome to my Sims 2 to 4 Project. It has been 5+ years in the making and it is finally nearly complete! If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I've been converting the entire (or as close to it as feasible) Sims 2 into the Sims 4, but with my own modifications based on my previous Sims 2 game and the version I played in Sims 3.

What you'll see here. Round-ish sort of gameplay. I'm terrible at sticking to rounds and just kind of play who I'm feeling at any given time, so it probably won't be strict round-style play, but I will keep track each time I rotate. It's just not exactly going to be in any order or anything. I'm not following any rules. I do what I want in my game.

What else you'll see. Drama. Lotsssss of drama. I took the Sims 2's storylines and pushed them too far. It's chaos. There's a reason this blog isn't for children. You gotta be like 16 to enter (there's no nudity or wicked whims woohoo stuff, but a lot of implied shit). There's some weird shit in here, so you know, brace yourselves or whatever. There's a couple families in here that are basically a Law and Order SVU episode. Spoiler: It's the Beakers. So, skip over the first few posts about them if you don't want to see posts that will probably have several TWs on them. It gets weeeeeiiiiiiirrrrrrd.

What's next? Well, I'm going to start by introducing you to the families- 5 per post because of Tumblr's stupid 10 photo limit. I'll introduce all the main families you know and love, then some of the others such as townies and NPCs from 2 that now have their own lives. Also, there's some dead sims that aren't dead anymore. It was kind of dumb that most of the sims had no living grandparents, so a lot of those folx are back. And the Tricous because, I mean, come on. Who didn't resurrect those guys back in the day? They were like the coolest family in the game but all dead. Lame, Maxis, lame. Anyway, yeah, we're starting with the intros. It will probably take me another year to post of all them.

Some other notes:

Lots. So, the lots are NOT direct remakes of the original houses. I totally ripped off other people's work for about 90% of them. I'll be posting a list of credits. I built most of this with TS2 booted up on my laptop for reference. I used my favorite lot makeovers. My laptop crapped out so I can't credit each individual lot to its creator, but I will add a credit list to the bottom of this post soon.

Sims. Mostly my creations. I snagged a few from the gallery. I no longer play a version that uses the gallery if you know what I mean, so I can't tell you exactly who made what sims, but I've edited most of them beyond recognition anyway. Many of the ones I made don't look a thing like their TS2 counterparts. It turns out I'm really bad at making sims that look like other sims. They're close enough to be recognizable I guess. You'll figure it out.

My Save File. I originally was going to make this TS2 vanilla, but got way too into it, so now it's something else entirely. Unfortunately, since I used floorplans and sims by other creators, as well as a boatload of CC, I can't share this. I did make a few houses that are TS2 originals and I may upload some of those at some point if you want to embrace the fug that was TS2 lots. But sorry, my save can't be shared without violating countless TOUs and I'm not an asshole like that.

Other things:

-I work a lot, so I can't guarantee any rhyme or rhythm to my posts. You'll get your fix when you get it, okay? Don't be so needy, sheesh! I play when I have time and I post when I have extra time.

-My screenshots aren't always going to be all pretty and perfect like some of yours (I envy y'all and your artistic abilities which I sorely lack). I only have Paint on this damn computer. I've never in my life been able to figure out how to get Reshade to work in a Sims game. You get whatever my lighting mods and graphics card decide to do, nothing more, nothing less.

-I'm WCIF friendly. I have 22GB of CC in dis bitch. If you see something you like and can't find, feel free to ask and I'll try to help ya out. Any other questions are welcome, like specs and all that shiz. I have a custom built computer that was mid-range when I got it several years ago. It's nothing fancy but it can run 22GB of CC with almost no lag, so that's something.

What do reviewers don't like about Palm?

Before I get to Palm review myself, I read the great reviews on this phone and try to summarize the most fundamental criticisms I have found in reading.

It seems to me that many experienced reviewers do not know what they want from such a phone. Before I go to the review, I will have to play with the phone, try out the possible use scenarios and maybe come to that.

Anyway, I recommend reading all the linked reviews and viewing the photo galleries because the view of Palm is truly breathtaking… d8-D

What are you supposed to use this for? Is it a new-age iPod? A smartwatch alternative? A smaller phone to take on your fitness activities? It's not really good at any of these things.

First, the $350 price tag puts it firmly in smartwatch territory, which is a huge problem for justifying a lot of Palm's supposed use cases. You can get an Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular access for $380. You can also get an LTE-equipped Wear OS or Samsung watch for around this price.

Palm calls this phone a "wearable" and sells a variety of cases, armbands, and lanyards designed for easy portability, but nothing is more portable than a smartwatch. So, if you're looking to travel light, just get the smaller device.

The Palm phone isn't a great music player thanks to the lack of a headphone jack and physical volume rocker. Sure, you can pair Bluetooth headphones to it, but you can also just pair Bluetooth headphones to your smartwatch, which is going to be smaller and more portable.

The Palm phone also can't beat a smartwatch for fitness activities, since a watch is going to be lighter and easier to carry. Plus, a watch will do heart-rate tracking. Maybe you want to bring a real phone, because you hate the lack of a keyboard on a smartwatch and don't want to speak to your device in public—but the Palm phone is too tiny to comfortably type on. The body is so skinny that you can't hold it with two hands, and the keyboard on this skinny screen is so small that a fingertip presses about four keyboard letters at once. You're relying on autocorrect so much that you might as well use Wear OS' tiny keyboard.

Plus, a smartwatch has one more major feature that the Palm phone doesn't support: NFC. If you're out for a jog, you can run into a shop and buy a drink with your smartwatch. You can't make a payment with a Palm phone.

No. The Palm doesn’t offer any value. The camera isn’t good, the battery won’t last you more than a few hours while you’re out, and it’s frustrating to type on. You’re better off saving yourself $350 by simply tapping on the ‘Do Not Disturb’ button on your (already expensive) Android or iPhone and going about your day.

Even though I didn't find the Palm as good at its job as simply adhering to those habits (and others), I'm still compelled by the idea and think it could be improved. I can live with its slow performance, but I'd like to see an even better camera and a more robust battery. Those enhancements would certainly add to the cost, but I feel that's not such a hard sell, and a more accurate picture of the Palm idea: I don't want a crappy phone, just one that's better suited to being more present IRL.

The idea of having two phones isn't insane. You might already have a work phone and a play phone, for instance. I've seen that as far back as Nokia's fashion-phone line from 2005. I personally wouldn't mind a tiny weekend phone. I'm the guy who's been asking for smaller smartphones for years now. The Palm phone, beautifully designed and tiny, should be the phone of my dreams.

But it fails to function well. I can forgive a low-cost phone for not having a Pixel-quality camera. The Pixel 3 costs $800. But the Whatsapp and iMessage problems, the weak Wi-Fi, the scratchy call quality, the tiny keyboard, and the lack of volume buttons all add up to a phone that's irritating, not relaxing, to use. Many of these annoyances are probably fixable with software updates, which just puts the Palm phone on the list of products that had to come out in November, whether or not they were ready.

The Palm Palm, or whatever you’d like to call it, is a great effort by a company whose head seems like it’s in the right place, but not quite going the right direction. When I first imagined that this Palm device, I thought it was sort of absurd. We all need to spend less time staring at our phones, so at least there's a good idea behind the Palm. But part of the problem is that the phone lacks the courage of its convictions. If we're supposed to use the Palm only intermittently, why preload it with apps that are contrary to that mission? And, why let people add even more apps that can potentially suck away time and attention? Features that do serve Palm's stated mission, like Life Mode, could stand to be fine-tuned, and it should be easier to control the phone's volume.

Then there's the matter of the Palm's $350 price tag — which isn't insignificant at a time when the prices of fully featured smartphones are on the rise. It's tempting to compare and contrast a companion phone like the Palm to an LTE-enabled smartwatch. You'd certainly pay more for the watch — the Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $499 if you want LTE connectivity — but you'd get a device that offers the same features as the Palm in a form factor that's better suited for at-a-glance uses. And the watch throws in health and fitness tracking features not found in the Palm.

The core of that ethos is something they call “Life Mode.” (Or, because the founders are dads, hashtag dad mode.) More than any other feature, the Life Mode on the Palm phone is what makes this a “time well spent” minimalist phone. When you turn Life Mode on by tapping a palm tree icon, it enables a set of Do Not Disturb and Low Battery settings.

In Life Mode, your notifications are obviously turned off, but Palm is also turning off the wireless radios. The cellular and Wi-Fi radios will only turn on when the screen is on. (Bluetooth will also turn off but stay on if you are connected to headphones.) It’s a much more aggressive way to turn off notifications and deny incoming phone calls. Palm specs the phone at eight hours of normal use without Life Mode on, so if you toggle it the Palm phone is expected to last a super long time on a charge.

Oddly, the Palm phone is not running the latest version of Android which has a bunch of Digital Wellbeing features built right in. The company tells me that they didn’t want to conflict with those Android 9 Pie features. Perhaps an update will come in the future, but it’s a miss for now.
