The second ending theme of Yes! Pretty Cure 5 is "Ganbalance ~Dreaming Miracles~." It is the second of three ending themes across three consecutive seasons tied to the "Ganbalance" dance and melody. It started airing with the thirty-third episode and lasted all the way to the end of the season.
However, for the first two weeks, likely due to time constraints, the ending theme aired in an unfinished state, with less dynamic backgrounds, characters freezing in place, and assets literally being slid across the screen. Starting with the thirty-fifth episode, the ending theme was finally complete, and this finished version is the one seen in rebroadcasts, streaming, and home media.
Thankfully people managed to record the unfinished version when it aired, so here's a comparison!

I know people are likely sad and/or disappointed that the Cures will get deaged when they transform and I 100% understand if it's a turn off BUT I have a suspicion that perhaps they will get adult Cure forms at some point... maybe the villain finds out what gave them the powers (those flowers) and destroys them, but through Sheer Will and Power of Friendship YesPre5 remake the CureMos and that's how they get adult forms? I dunno maybe I'm desperate lol
Honestly that is entirely possible. The theme of this season is definitely time and basically how time cannot be rewound... except the YesPre group breaking that by literarily rewinding their time to transform. Considering the build up, this was coming for sure. Also, the villain desperately wants to change the time. For some reason.
I'm myself just dreading the mere idea of transformation animations being compared to the end of time so in a sense I'm glad we don't have new ones lol. Could have been nice with new designs but ah, think people being just annoyed by the lack of it is better for my sanity KJSHDFKSJF.
I'm curious on how the season goes forward because so far, I'm very intriqued by it. Also noticed that the countdown images may have been reverse order of when each cure get their transformations back :D Considering Nozomi was 1 day left and Karen 2 days left. Kurumi is next if it applies.

What is your favorite magical girl anime/cartoon anyway?
Another question is, do you think there’s a lack luster of entertainment towards little girls that’s actually good? Miraculous Ladybug seems to be terrible because of internalized misogyny and stuff like that y’know? I just want to go back to days where female magical girl leads were prominent again
Firstly, it's a tie between Ojamajo Doremi and any season of PreCure (except YesPre5/GoGo and Hugtto), imo.
And secondly, well... you could try LoliRock, as there was nothing wrong with it; but it was discontinued, unfortunately... and that's not even mentioning the careless display of racism that MLB has...

its interesting, because while people tend to rank the gogo henshins higher i actually prefer the yespre5 because you can see the hair shift and change, as opposed to bursting into shape. its interesting to see other opinions
Yeah it is a good point that the original Yes5 transformations do show how the hair transforms, I should have given it more credit in the post. I’d say my reasons for preferring the sequel version is that I’ve seen plenty of magical girl transformations at this point, and showing the hair transform doesn’t do much for me alone. So since the poses are so static and everyone’s (except Lemonade) henshin are pretty samey, the original transformation is pretty forgettable for me. Though even if the animation is more dynamic, the GoGo version isn’t that memorable either so it’s more like a trade off.

I've been thinking about how in Otona Pretty Cure, one of the main and obvious takeaways is that the events of Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star, Yes! Pretty Cure 5, and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! all occurred within the same universe.
That's not exactly a new revelation, especially since the Pretty Cure All Stars films exist, but in those cases, it seemed to be more of a non-canon affair; that is, not directly tied to the events of the TV anime.
But I also think that, back in the original Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and its sequel, they made slight hints that it took place in the same universe as Splash Star. Whether or not this was intentional for OtonaPre is up in the air, but I still think it's neat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the 28th episode of the original Yes! Pretty Cure 5, Komachi and Karen are checking a phonebook to see if there are any locations that can provide ice for their confectionaries. When the anime shows a page of that phonebook, if you read the Japanese text carefully, you'll see that several of the locations are named "Yuunagi" (夕凪).
Tumblr media
If you recall from Splash Star, "Yuunagi" is the name of the town that Saki and Mai live in (and also the last name of Tsubasa Yuunagi, Cure Wing).
Karen also mentions that they've been checking locations that are "farther away," and since their goal is to try and get ice, we can assume this means Yuunagi is within a semi-reasonable driving distance from wherever Yes! Pretty Cure 5 takes place.
Now, by itself, this may not mean much, perhaps Yuunagi is the name of another unrelated place. To counter that, I'd like to go back to the phonebook picture. In the address lines for each location listed, the address is written as "Unabara-shi Yuunagi" (海原市夕凪), or rather, "Unabara (Deep Sea) City — Yuunagi."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unabara City is also a location referenced in Splash Star. Yuunagi is basically like a town within the sector that Unabara encompasses. Unabara is written on signs in the actual anime, referenced to in official material like the website and print stuff like the Memory Book, and was spoken out loud at least once to my knowledge, in the Splash Star film. The Yuunagi mentioned in the phonebook is the same Yuunagi that Saki and Mai lived in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another small piece of evidence is that, in the 36th episode of Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!, when the girls get invited onto a game show, we see students from different schools competing, and in one shot, we see girls wear school uniforms that look very similar to the ones Saki and Mai wore while attending Yuunagi Junior High.
So in short, I believe that it has always been referenced since the original Yes! Pretty Cure 5 that it took place in the same universe as Splash Star, and this is what OtonaPre was built on.

I didn't realize until rewatching the original Yes5 that this one scene from OtonaPre was actually a slight running gag between Nozomi and Rin.

Does anyone else find it weird that Mailpo hasn't shown up at all in OtonaPre?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, we've seen most of the other fairies from Yes!5 and GoGo!, even Papaya, Milk's boss, and King Doughnuts, but not Mailpo, Syrup's friend and walking mailbox. Did he leave her behind in the Cure Rose Garden? Is she dead?
