It appears A made B blush, and in response their own cheeks heat up. and Rulie or early Peterpatterlina?
Also tagging @innytoes, who requested this for Rulie!
Today's the day! He's going to love it.
She hopes he loves it.
But her hopes are so high that she's flying.
Julie would normally pause to admire the gorgeous floral displays that stand between her and the counter, but she can't. She flies there with a smile and a hummingbird heart, which smacks against the folder she's clutching to her chest.
Reggie isn't busy, thankfully, and he welcomes her with bright eyes and a wide grin. “Julie! How can I help my favorite customer? Another tattoo collab?”
She huffs a laugh. “Please, you give me more flowers than I pay for. And no.”
He shrugs, as if to say touche, and then glances between her and the folder expectantly, leaning forward on his elbows.
She pushes the folder across the counter and rocks on her heels, biting her lip so she can't run her mouth.
She'd rather let her gift speak for itself.
His breath catches as soon as he flips the folder open. He traces the edge of pressed, then inked, petals reverently.
“You kept—did you draw them all from memory? Did you keep—all of them?”
“Just that one,” she admits. “I took pictures that I used for the drawing. Do you like it?”
He lets out an incredulous laugh, which finally prompts her to look at his face.
A blush has bloomed bright and high in his cheeks, accentuated by his sweet smile and the shine in his eyes. He looks pleased. Her stomach flutters at the sight.
Her own cheeks warm as he finally says,
“How could I not? Julie—this is amazing.”
“Oh,” she breathes. “Um…I'm glad. I'm glad you like it. Thank you.”
He laughs again. “I should be thanking you! But I am curious about one thing. Why'd you go for the sunflowers I first gave you and not any of the dahlias?”
She tears her eyes away from his sunny face, which blessedly makes it a bit easier to think, and looks back to the colorful sketch and pressed flower. They burst with as much life as she could capture.
“It just felt…very you. And you're always giving me beautiful bouquets for the shop…I wanted to give something back. To save some of that beauty for you, I guess. Does that…make sense?”
She cringes a little, flushing more fiercely. Explaining it sounds so weird out loud…so much for letting the gift speak for itself. She could've stopped one sentence in.
“Anyway. Tell me to shut up at any time.”
He snorts. A gentle hand tilts her face up.
“I won't tell you to shut up. If that's okay?”
That damn smile might be the death of her.
But, she thinks as she nods and he leans in, she's pretty sure that she'll die happy.

Prompt 6: "You can see whatever your soulmate writes on their skin on your skin,"
Tumblr media
Waking up, in your comfy bed with the blanket draped over your body, you sighed. Another day of...
Messing with your soulmate!
A mischievous smile entered your face, making you look way too evil for this situation. You woke up and the first thing on your mind was annoying your soulmate, whoever it was! Sitting up energetically, you ruffled your hair a bit and checked the time. It was the weekend so you assumed you would wake up later in the day, but to your surprise, you woke up at 5:53 AM.
“Haha!” Your smile grew even bigger. Now you had even more time...
Standing up from your bed, you threw your phone to where you just were and walked into the bathroom, making sure to grab a Sharpie pen from your desk. Looking in the mirror above your sink, already opening the pen cap, your smirk going ear to ear...
Your jaw dropped.
“W-wha...”
Your eyes widened as you look at yourself. Your face. Your soulmate has never done anything this rebellious to you before. Tracing your hand along your skin...
There were multicolored sharpie marks on your face, one of the marks was in red that said “IDIOT” on your forehead, one of them was on your left cheek in blue which was like a summoning circle, another on your other cheek which was a normal star in purple.
You rolled up the sleeves of your pajamas to gather water from the sink to try and rinse off the marker but realized...
Your soulmate made marks all over your body. There were designed lines on your arms and your hands were decorated with symbols along your knuckles and palms. This made you laugh in disbelief.
“Maybe my soulmate wanted to get payback for all the times I’ve done the same!” you thought happily. Then on your other arm, you realized your soulmate left a tiny message.
It wrote, “I am sorry to have to do this, but you left me no choice dearest soulmate. Today must have come as a shock to you, seeing how you probably are currently... But then again, you deserve it Y/N, my ‘angel’.”
You guys shared names, but never phone numbers since writing on your skin was more fun, well for you of course. Either way, you became flustered a bit and a tad annoyed. Well, you got a taste of your own medicine. How early did your soulmate wake up to do this? Was it last night?
Questions popped into your head about them... But the main thing you could think about was “When can I meet them?” You were so eager to meet your soulmate now, and since you had all of these markings on you, this was one of the perfect times to go out and try and find them. I mean, all those other times they were either pretty small like dumb messages to say hello to your soulmate, or sometimes they were huge, where you would go and draw on your face and body. But they were never as big as what your soulmate has done. They looked like tattoos, to be honest.
They can match your level. Maybe even beyond what you expected. Exiting the bathroom, you put the pen back onto your desk. Pondering what to do, you decided to dress up in a [F/C] sleeveless button-up shirt to show off your marked arms and having normal jeans covering your long legs since your arms were enough.
Prepping your clothes, you undressed in the bathroom, still staring at the mirror. You couldn’t help but laugh. Your soulmate really went far this time. There were simple drawings on your chest and random small squiggles.
After dressing up, you raced out of your room, grabbing another marker, this time in green, and your phone. The sun burned your eyes as you entered the outside, your eyes still trying to adjust to the light. Your colorful face could be seen wonderfully now. As you started walking around, heading to a more populated area like the park (which was where you were going), you started to, very rapidly, get stares from people.
Proudly smiling, you made your way to your favorite park, almost always crowded with people of youth: “Sunflower Peaks”, to meet your friends, like you had planned to last minute. Shoving the items you had in your back pocket, you enjoyed the scenery.
Little kids passed by you, probably in awe since you heard them say “Woah!! Look at those drawings on his arm! I want my soulmate to do that when I’m older!” You waved to them and their faces lit up with joy.
Afterward, you stepped into the playground, the bark crunching under your matching [F/C] shoes. Passing by even more children and many parents ushering them from you, you sat on a vacant swing. You reached for the green marker that you put into your back pocket and opened it with your mouth.
Looking around your hand, arm, even under your shirt, you eventually found a spot on your palm, although small, that you could write on. Smiling in the back of your head, you started writing on your skin.
“Meet me over at Sunflower Peak, you’ll know it’s me when you see the big IDIOT on my face :P”
Now the smile was actually on your face, butterflies all of a sudden going in your stomach! However, your confidence was, unfortunately, starting to drain...
NO!
You wouldn’t let your nerves get the best of you today! Plus your distraction should be here by now...
As you dangle your legs on the swing, the breeze on your face, letting it ruffle your hair, you feel like a kid again.
Well, you were acting immaturely when drawing on your body, but most of the time... You were serious. Taking breaks only when you needed to, cleaning your schedule, finishing your work on time, trying yourself to the limit.
Your soulmate was the one who allowed you to be free, to let your childish persona out. Getting all excited, you smiled an even bigger smile thinking back...
“HEY! Y/N! THERE YA ARE!” A loud, booming voice caught your attention. There, your distraction was walking towards you. He probably scared some of the children, but you paid no mind.
“Nekomaru!” You yelled, a bit quieter than him, back. You noticed two other people. One of them was a buddy of yours as well, Akane Owari. The other person was no other than Ibuki Mioda, whom you’ve seen in the news now and then.
Getting up from the seat, you stood up excitedly! Just in time to distract you.
Akane was bringing a picnic basket while Ibuki was handling a... Giant boombox. Uhm, haha, yes, a boombox. You haven’t seen one in a while, only in movies mainly. Nekomaru was carrying a backpack, most likely filled with things for today.
“I brought along Akane and Ibuki, if ya don’t mind! I had a massive workout yesterday with a team I was coaching so I’m sore as shit! We’re gonna stretch!” He boisterously yelled again.
“Sup Y/N! Gotta run real quick!” Akane waved her arm frantically and ran off like she was trying to find something.
“Heyoo!” Ibuki waved, somehow carrying the boombox with one arm, “Nice to meet ya, idiot!” Ah, you forgot you had the word idiot on your face. Embarrassment slightly flooded your senses as you recalled how you faced those children.
You waved to both, giving them a slightly awkward chuckle. After your friends put down their stuff and rested on the grass field, the three of you, excluding the gymnast who was still running, started to bring up small talk. How their days were, how tried Ibuki was, what the plan was for today, etc, etc... What you didn’t mention was that you were including in this because you wanted to waste time, you wanted time for your soulmate to come to you, so you could finally meet them...You got your phone out, checked the time which brightly illuminated as 6:35. God, you were out for a long time.
After a little while, Akane decided it was best to eat first before heading over to a nice spot where a flower field was and start stretching. She plopped down right next to you and opened the basket she was holding for so long. Seconds later, there was a whole kiddie lunch out: sandwiches, soda, onigiri, burgers, literally tons of junk/fast food that kids would love...
Didn’t mean you guys didn’t like em too. Everyone was munching down as you were steadily holding a triangular-shaped onigiri. “Y/N? Ya not hungry?”Akane shouted, food stuffed into her mouth. You nodded and got your phone out again to check the time. It wasn’t late, not even afternoon yet but you couldn’t help but be antsy about your soulmate. What if they didn’t live near here? What if you had to wait hours upon hours? You couldn’t wait that long!
As you took another bite of the onigiri, a phone began ringing, though it wasn’t for long. Most likely a message notification. It wasn’t yours, you had your phone in your other hand. Instead, it was none other than Ibuki...
And Nekomaru? And Akane?
They all got a notification... But you didn’t. Was something gonna happen?
“Ah! You two stay there, I’ll get our newest member joining us today!” Akane yelled out loud with a smile, only to get that idea shut down by your best friend.
“Let me do it, you’ve already gone through all that trouble.” Nekomaru stood up and dropped the, quite heavy, bag on the grass. “I’ll be back soon!” He laughed.
Then he started running away, leaving you with two hyperactive girls.
Ibuki started up some songs on the boombox, blasting it a bit without blowing your ears off. Akane just kept on eating the food, every now and then offering some to you since all you ate was one itty bitty onigiri.
Getting a bit bored, you stood up and started walking around, picking at the grass. Minutes after, you heard Ibuki and Akane snickering about something. Curious as to what they were laughing about, you approached them, but as soon as they saw you walking, they tried to shut their mouth.
Something was up.
You sat back down and stared them down, hoping they spill something.
“Hey, quick q, how did you get that word on your head?” The singer quickly questioned, which got her a sudden elbow in her ribs.
“Oh,” You responded, not expecting to have to answer a question. But nonetheless, you answered it, “Well, when I woke up it was already there, I assume my soulmate did it,” You shrugged as if it wasn’t a big deal.
Akane checked her phone speedily and hid it from you just as fast. There was something on that phone...
But you decided not to barge through her personal info and all, you don’t wanna get punched in the face with someone with tons of strength... Such as the Ultimate Gymnast in front of you.
Just in time, Nekomaru came back with no one around him. Wasn’t he gonna-
“Let's go to the flower field and stretch!” Nekomaru cut off your train of thought. Now that was surprising. He picked the bag he dropped on the floor back on his shoulders with ease, and almost dragged you and his friends over to the yard.
Well, not like you minded. The campus you were on was beautiful and so peaceful.  The flowers seemed to sway a bit from the tiny breeze of spring. It was cooling and probably the perfect place to spend time with friends.
You wished your soulmate were here. This was your favorite part of the park. It was always so lush and smelled wonderful. All the volunteers took such great care with the plants and you were one of them.
Nekomaru tapped your shoulder since you were so awestruck by the scenery. Ah, you had time to stare at it later. It brought you back to reality and when you turned around...
It was kinda like looking in a mirror.
There was a person there that had the same marking on your forehead. They had all of the markings on your face, on theirs.
You couldn’t say anything, you were so shocked that they were there. There was a male. He had pale skin, two different colored eyes -- ruby and stormy grey, hair that swirled up, and four tiny hamsters sat on his shoulders, all gushing and chipping. The man stared at you, a growing blush on his cheeks and ears. Though, it was covered by the same marks you had on your cheeks.
The same red “IDIOT” on their forehead, the same blue summoning circle drawing on their left cheek, and a purple star on their right.
On one of their arms, since one was covered in a bandage, there was that little message you got. You couldn’t believe it.
Right there, in front of you, the petals of the flowers complimenting the aura around everyone was your soulmate.
Your mouth gaped open but you couldn’t speak. You were breathless. “Hah...” You managed to say.
Then you started laughing. “Hah, hahahahah!” Oh you were so joyful.
You started walking towards him, but it became a full sprint. Your laughs could be heard throughout the whole field. You hugged him, which was more like a tackle since you both ended up falling on the ground. Your smile was so big and so was his, some small tears on the eyes of both of you boys.
“W-Well my angel... You are handsome.” He complimented as he got a close examination of your face, “Now, did you get vandalized with graffiti too?” He smirked.
You nodded as both of you guys sat down peacefully, enjoying the scenery. This was a beautiful way to meet your soulmate.
“Yeah I did, and I believe,” You tease as you cupped his face to bring it closer to you, “The culprit was you, Gundham.”

Sunflower, Vol. 6
(A Jerejean AU)
Part one.
Part two:
Tired eyes are the death of me
Mouthful of toothpaste before I got to know you
I've got your face hung up high in the gallery
I love this shade, sunflower, sunflower
Your flowers just died, plant new seeds in the melody
Tumblr media
This wonderful edit is by @91percentpynch which inspired me to start writing this AU. I adore her and Jean Moreau is the love of our life and the light of our existence and the moon of our sky.
The next time Jean stepped foot inside Knox florists was one month later because he couldn't get Jeremy the shop out of his head. There were hazel eyes and cymbidiums, yellow blonde hair and chrysanthemums and Jeremy and his bright smile.
Jean never wanted anything before. Want meant making yourself vulnerable, stripping down your walls. It had only led him to pain and hurt, blood and tears. But there it was again, this overwhelming ache, this annoying brightness that made Jean want.
The shop was empty except for Garfield sniffing a pot of hydrangeas as Jean was about to open the door, Luna bouncing beside him already.
The bell chimed and a second later, Jeremy's head popped up from behind the counter. He still had his stupid smile on his face that made Jean's heart stutter in his chest. And there were leaves and rose petals stuck in his flowy blonde hair. He waved enthusiastically at Jeremy and Jean smiled a small smile.
"hello" "hi" "how are you, Jean Moreau?"
Jeremy's French was so terribly Jean sighed.
"Jeremy your French is terrible" "I know but it makes you smile so it's win"
Jean didn't know whether to fling himself out of this world or to press his lips on Jeremy's.
"perhaps you can teach me. I can pronounce croissant" "oh mon dieu no" "or avant garde" "stop" "or crème brulée" "no Jeremy-"
Jeremy was staring at him, his smile wider than ever which just made Jean wonder whether he did something.
"did I something?" "You're laughing" "I can laugh" "it's the first time you've laughed that I've heard"
They were both blushing. Jean literally sighed and buried his head in his arms on the table. Jeremy laughed and Jean wanted to tattoo his laugh on his heart even if that made no remote sense.
"if it's okay I'm gonna sit here and sketch" "can I see?" "Maybe later?" "Okay"
He did. The studio was closed today as Aaron had gone home to visit his boyfriend and twin brother. And Jean got terribly bored at the studio alone. And he remembered he had Jeremy's card. So, he was back. He had been busy for a month with a lot of commissions so he had been talking to Jeremy via text. It was quite fun as Jeremy was just as bright when he texted.
He pulled out his sketchbook. There were all sorts of things that he'd sketched. Flowers and vines, hands and eyes, animals and birds. He had tattooed a few even. He looked around but his eyes landed only on Jeremy who stuck out like a sore thumb against the sea of plants.
He gave in and started putting Jeremy on paper. The mess of his blonde hair, wavy and long. His large eyes and pointy nose that dipped at the right angle. The curve of his cupid's bow and the freckles on his face, dusted across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose.
It was slow and delicate, the scratch of graphite against the paper because art came slow and eventual, like rainfall on a sunny day.
Jeremy was not short, just that Jean was taller by a few inches. He was tall and angular and had muscular arms and beautiful hands with nerves jutting out when he flexed his hands. His nails were almost always painted a bright yellow.
Jeremy came alive on Jean's sketchbook and the Jean took out his pencils to fill in the colour. He spent a good minutes trying match the colour of Jeremy's skin until he was fed up and went with the closest shade.
When he looked up, Jeremy was tending to a rather large bouquet of tulips and roses as he chatted with his customer. The hope blooming in Jean's chest wilted he saw Jeremy blush while talking to the woman.
Jean vented out his frustration by aggressively scribbling his pencil until the tip broke with a crack. He didn't even know why he was angry at this, this mess of feelings that had bloomed in his chest.
And why would Jeremy even like him? He was too broken, there were too many sharp yet delicate pieces of him that he himself couldn't keep a count of yet he was trying to piece them together, one by one. Why would Jeremy pick those up and cradle them when he could have someone who'd give him all he wanted. Jean had survived, barely and he didn't know how to live. Live in the way life was supposed to be lived in.
Jeremy noticed him and sat beside him after he handed the woman her bouquet. Jean didn't say anything but continues to colour his sketch as he felt Jeremy's eyes linger on him.
"Jean?" "Yes?" "Is that me?"
Jean didn't say anything but responded by slamming his sketchbook shut and gathering his pencils. Jeremy flinched beside him. He got up, eyes burning as he grabbed Luna's leash and walked to leave. She tilted her head in question but followed him nonetheless.
Be still my unsteady heart, he angrily reminded himself as he prepared to storm out.
Then they were, Jeremy's fingers closed around his wrist that made his heart hammer louder than ever that it was ringing in his own ears.
"don't go please"; the broken edges of Jeremy's whisper that told him to turn around.
"did I do something wrong?" "No" "then?" "It hurts" "what does?" "Everything?" "Okay" "you" "me?" "You hurt me"
The silence began to eat him slowly, creeping up from the ground. When he looked at Jeremy, his eyes had darkened to a stormy hazel and his frown was there, underlying. He loosened his grip on Jean's and stepped backward but Jean caught his hand again.
"I've never felt this way about anyone. But you are making me feel these, these emotions that made hope blooms until your girlfriend came here" "I don't have a girlfriend?" "The lady who came in earlier" "oh, she was my sister. She asked me- whether- whether you were my boyfriend" "oh"
There was Jeremy, blushing again, slowly lacing their fingers together; carefully, elegantly, slowly as if giving Jean time to pull away but their fingers tangled and oh, oh, oh, Jeremy was so warm and Jean was so cold. Because Jeremy was alive and warm and his heartbeat was faint staccato under Jean's fingers and Jean was cold and learning to live and his heart was a thawing piece of frozen flesh.
"well" "I'm sorry" "don't be, please. Would you like to have lunch with me?" "Okay" "do you like tacos?" "I suppose"
Jeremy laughed brightly as Jean let go and sat back down. Jeremy called a place and ordered food and came back to sit beside him.
"can I see the sketch?" "Yes"
Jean pulled out his sketchbook and showed the sketch to Jeremy. Jeremy's fingers were feather light on the paper as they grazed his own features, delicate and beautiful. When Jeremy looked back at him, his eyes were bright and twinkling and full of admiration for Jean.
He looked with such ferocity that for the first time Jean felt seen. He felt vulnerable and fragile and felt like Jeremy would break him the way he wanted to be broken, just to be healed again.
His smile was gentle and persistent, it made Jean's heart flutter again. And he was suddenly leaning closer towards Jeremy, closer and closer until their breaths mingled.
"I fear you'll burn me" "what?" "You're so bright like the sun I feel like you'll incinerate this very second until all that remains is nothing yet, yet I can't help but be drawn to you" "oh"
And Jean watched as Jeremy's fingers inched towards his face, slow so as to give Jean to pull away but Jean didn't, he wouldn't. And Jean's skin was on fire as Jeremy's fingers grazed his cheeks, traced the tattoo of the moon that has risen there and the trail of little stars that began at his cheek and cascade down like a starry waterfall down his neck and onto his back and into nothingness.
Jean's inhaled sharply as Jeremy breathed as he traced his finger delicately across Jean's face as if he was made of glass and too much pressure and Jean would crack.
Jean was toughened like a diamond or a rock and nothing could break him anymore but Jeremy. Jeremy made him feel like he was a delicate little thing, a bud, a blossom blooming on a dewy morning.
Jean moved and Jeremy's face was under his hands as the pupils of Jeremy's eyes widened. He rubbed his calloused thumbs across Jeremy's cheeks and Jeremy closed his eyes and sighed. When he opened them again, they were twinkling like stars.
"Hazel mixed with green" "huh?" "The colour of your eyes when you stand under the sun and the rays hit them perfectly"
Jeremy laughed and Jean leaned forward and looked at Jeremy. There was no hesitation, none at all. Jean let his feelings wash him over, trample him over and he had surrendered in this want. He pressed his lips against Jeremy's and they were soft, and warm against Jean's chapped and cold ones. And Jeremy's hands were gentle in his hair, carding through it.
When they pulled away, the unsteadiness in Jean's heart had calmed down as he looked at Jeremy. There was a faint pink tinge to his cheeks that clashed with his freckles and there was that lopsided smile that was different from his usual ones. Jean thought that this one might be special.
"I have nothing to give to you, Jeremy Knox. Except me" "and I'll try to give you everything you want" "I'm broken and there's too many pieces" "then let me pick them up with you, for you" "I fear you'll break me. I fear you'll break me and help me heal when I'm too shattered" "I'll try to make you feel less broken"
Jeremy didn't assure him that he'll make Jean whole. Jean supposed Jeremy knew that feeling whole was just bullshit. It was false hope and fake words for those who were afraid of the truth.
Jean pulled up his sleeves, to reveal his scars and tattoos and Jeremy was staring wide-eyed at him. Jeremy's fingers hovered around his arms and Jean whispered a quiet yes and Jeremy grazed his fingers against his scars, the flowers and vines tattooed around them and the sunflower on his forearm. Jeremy smiled at him through glassy eyes. Jeremy moved his fingers, slender and long and graceful against Jean's skin, like an artist mixing colours on a pallet, careful and methodical.
"you gave me the sunflower, Jeremy Knox" "I remember" "this one will never wilt" "I'll give you a million sunflowers more if you want"
Jean smiled, it was not as bright as Jeremy's but it'd do and pressed his lips against Jeremy's once more.
It felt a lot like blooming.

Butterflies in the Garden
Written for the ‘Fools in Love’ Persona Fan Zine (@personafoolsinlovezine)
Genre: soulmates, soulmate indentitpre-romance, M/M Rated: K Characters: Souji Seta (Yu Narukami), Akira Karusu (Ren Amamiya), Margaret, Izanagi, mentions of the IT Warnings: none Status: zine fic, oneshot; complete
Your name is Souji Seta, and you do not have a soulmate.
Your name is Souji Seta, and you do not have a soulmate.
Even as a child, when your classmates started sprouting colors, Lover’s Marks around their wrists, Platonic Marks across their backs, your skin has always been blank. You used to watch the other children as they gleefully showed off their growing ink and giggled over whose Marks might match their own. You envied them at first. Now you just feel numb.
Over time you’ve come to accept your Mark-less existence. You don’t like it, you don’t want it, but a lifetime of changing schools and absent parents means you’re no stranger to being alone. Eventually you just stop caring. At least, you tell yourself you’ve stopped caring; it’s easier than facing the gaping void of loneliness threatening to choke you whenever your guard is down.
Maybe this is better, you think. Maybe your lack of Soul Marks is the universe’s way of helping you deal with the isolation in your everyday life.
(You chant your “maybe’s” in your head and stop crying yourself to sleep by the time you reach age 9.)
---
Your flowers finally bloom when you turn 16.
A year is spent in a rural town called Inaba, where, for the first time in your existence, you actually feel alive. There are murders, a mystery, but in between the stress and combat there are people, and as you slowly get to know them you can feel your garden grow.
They start as tingles across your shoulder blades, the sensation of warm water spreading like ink along your skin. You wake one morning to find stems and buds. You wake the next to petals and leaves. Sunflowers for the Magician, hyacinth and amaryllis for the Chariot and Priestess. Gladiolus, then pink roses; lilac, then iris. There is freesia for your cousin, a dahlia for her dad. An entire field of Platonic Marks springs up almost overnight, and little by little they bury the emptiness beneath vibrant shades of love until you’re covered neck to waist in watercolor blooms.
But for all the tattooed beauty of the flowers on your back there is still a blank spot on your canvas, and the colors fade in sadness on the day you have to leave.
---
You stop dreaming about the Velvet Room when you move back to Tokyo. You miss it, the way you miss everything else about Inaba, but your contract has been fulfilled and the logical part of you knows you have to readjust to life as a normal person. It takes ages, but you begrudgingly fall back into your boring, lonely life. You clutch at your shoulders when it gets to be unbearable; when texts and calls to your garden of friends just aren’t enough, you find your fingers searching out the comfort of the blossoms on your back.
Months pass by the time you’ve finally accepted that you’ll never see the liminal blue dreamscape again, and it’s because of this that you’re so completely unprepared for the night when, out of absolutely nowhere, you feel that familiar sensation of falling just as you’re drifting asleep.
“Honored friend,” comes the silvery-sweet voice of Margaret in your ear. “May I ask a personal favor?”
You do not hesitate, you simply tell her, “yes.”
The world around you is cold and harsh when feeling returns to your body. You open your eyes to find yourself in a… cage? Stumbling to the bars, you look out into the blue-tinted room beyond your cramped enclosure and realize that you are not in a cage, but a prison.
The walls curve away from you in a circle of cells too dark to see inside, but from what you can tell, the center of the space is empty.
Someone lurks behind you in the dark; you do not need to turn to know who it is. “There is something wrong with the Velvet Room,” Margaret whispers over your shoulder. “I cannot seem to contact my Master and I fear this new guest may be in danger.” You hear her move, hear the creak of her Compendium as it opens.
Faintly, from all the way across the room in the cell directly opposite yours, there comes the sound of rustling chains. Instinctively you step back into the safety of the shadows as a figure, clad in white-and-black prison garb, shuffles up to the bars of that distant cell. You cannot make out features, only the monochrome of skin and charcoal hair.
“Hello?” the figure calls, and the voice is male.
“Hello?!” he calls more insistently, voice hitching in building unease. “Is anyone there?”
You don’t like this. You don’t like what the Velvet Room’s become and you don’t like that there’s a boy in chains across from you in the empty dark. “Let me help,” you whisper, eyeing the oppressive space around you with creeping dread. “This isn’t right, let me help.”
You practically feel Margaret’s smile. “I was hoping you’d offer.” The Compendium snaps shut.
Something rises from your soul: an old, familiar presence that you nearly weep to feel again, lightning-charged and sizzling through your veins like a pulse. There’s a surge of ethereal blue light and past the glow, through a pair of eyes not quite your own, you see the boy in the other cell take a step backwards in shock.
When the light dims, Izanagi stands triumphant in the center of the room.
Through your Persona’s vision you see the boy more clearly. He’s roughly your age, with curling black hair and wide dark eyes set in a beautiful, seraphim face. He stares up at you-not-you in fear and awe and somewhere in the back of your head you hear Izanagi’s voice like a rumbling, distant storm.
I am thou.
But thou are not I.
The boy’s bow furrows in frustrated confusion. “I don’t understand.”
You watch through Izanagi’s eyes as he silently appraises the boy in the cell. Eventually you feel him nod.
You’ll do.
The world glows white-hot.
There’s a sensation of something shifting – relocating – and suddenly you’re blind. In place of your sight, however, comes an acute awareness of someone else, like your awareness of Margaret behind you only stronger, deeper, like you’re somehow folded up in another person and they in you. Any hollow place that once existed within you is gone, filled to the brim with this feeling of him, the boy who now holds the most profound piece of your soul.
It’s the most intimate thing you’ve ever felt in your life and you are very nearly brought to tears.
Your vision fades back in, leaving you once more inside your own body, and from across the way you can see the boy staring at his hands in pure wonder. He flexes his fingers, brings them up to press against his chest as if he’s feeling for something past his sternum. He looks up, and those dark, wide eyes meet yours.
“Who are you?” he whispers, but you feel it in your head all the same.
You get no chance to answer. Margret’s hand is on your shoulder before you can open your mouth, and into your ear she murmurs, “It’s best if we leave now, honored friend.”
You want to protest, shake her hand off, shout your name back at the boy and ask for his, but your body feels weightless, detached from your surroundings, and you blink to find the room around you blurring at the edges.
You wake up alone in the physical world, blinking away fresh tears. The feeling of completeness is still there, though, and as you stare up at the ceiling and focus, you can just make out the faint stirrings of Izanagi from somewhere far away. “Come back,” you whisper to the boy that cannot hear you. “Please …”
When the sun rises a few hours later, flooding your bedroom with light, you notice something beneath the cuff of your shirtsleeve. There, on your left wrist, in brilliant cyan-blue, is a Lover’s Mark in the shape of a swooping butterfly.
---
Life doesn’t change too much. You weren’t sure if it would because you’ve never had a soulmate before and don’t know what it’s meant to feel like, but the garden on your back hadn’t really changed anything either, so you suppose this is normal. Something that does change is the way you can sense his emotions whenever they’re strong enough.
Determination comes through a lot, as does defiance. You wonder what kind of life your soulmate is living where he’s constantly on edge, constantly tense or stressed. Anxiety and anger are common as well, and you don’t like that the negative emotions are what you get most often because you can’t tell if they’re what he feels the strongest or what he feels most frequently. Neither one is good.
You worry for him, send him thoughts of strength where you can, whisper, “you’ll get through this, I believe in you” into the butterfly, and pray that it reaches him when he needs it. You don’t know him, not even his name or where he is, but you’ve wanted him your whole life and now that you know he exists you already want to protect him. Sometimes there’s a flicker of something in return, but you can’t make out what it is.
There are times, however, when you swear you can feel his happiness. It’s soft, more focused than the other emotions, and always at night when you’re lying in bed thinking. There’s something like longing hiding in there as well, and you know this because you’ve known forever what longing feels like. The butterfly on your wrist tingles with warmth; you dare to hope it means he’s thinking about you, too.
It’s during those witching-hour moments, when you’re alone with the memory of dark eyes and even darker curls, that you press your palm over your new Lover’s Mark and pour every ounce of yearning and curious affection from your heart into this budding bond between you. You like to imagine that the faint, giggly joy you feel afterwards is him answering you back.
But your luck always runs out.
You awake in a feverish sweat one terrible, soul-rending night in November, with after-images of torture flashing behind your eyes and fear crackling in your ribs like Izanagi’s being torn apart from the inside out. It doesn’t let up even after you blink away the nightmare, and your entire body shakes violently with adrenaline not wholly your own.
You gasp into the darkness, searching for any scrap of familiar feeling you can use as an anchor to ground the both of you on either side of the bond. All you feel is chaos, a steady stream of spectral pain. You curl in on yourself then, instinctively wrapping your hand over the butterfly and clutching until your knuckles turn white. “I’m here,” you whisper, hoping against hope that he can hear you. “I’m here, I’m here, I’m here…”
There’s a feeling like something slotting between the fingers of your left hand, like someone is desperately gripping it, and you clench your fist in response as if you could hold his hand from far away and not let go. You stay that way until everything fades into a drug-like silence, sobbing against your Lover’s Mark and rocking back and forth until well after dawn.
Later, as you’re sluggishly getting ready for school with the morning news in the background, it’s announced that the leader of the infamous Phantom Thieves killed himself last night while in police custody. Somehow, with a gut-dropping surety that you cannot explain, you know.
You don’t go to classes that day – instead, you crawl back into bed in a daze and lay there with your lips pressed against the faded butterfly, your heart freezing over inside your chest.
---
Your Mark is silent after that.
Your hope begins to dim to embers, not yet dead but slowly dying as the months roll by. Sometimes, at night, it feels like maybe there’s still something there – an echo of lonely sorrow ghosting across your soul, but it always vanishes too quickly for you to catch. No matter how fervently you plead afterwards, there is never any response.
You look for solace in denial; old “maybe’s” sit like poison in your mind and you quickly discard them when all they do is make you sick. You cling to your garden of platonic flowers, but even they bring little comfort now that you’ve had a glimpse of something deeper.
Ever observant, your Magician is the first to notice your despondence. He calls you, asks if you’re okay, doesn’t believe you when you tell him you are. He calls again later to say he’s bought a train ticket to Tokyo for spring break, and despite your hollowness the sunflowers on your back grow a little brighter at the news.
March arrives and with it comes your friend, his presence a balm to your shattered heart. You talk for hours, catching up those months spent apart and, miserably, you tell him about your once-vibrant Lover’s Mark. It’s grey now, the color all but gone in your despair, and you’re grateful when he empathizes but doesn’t ask to see.
Three days into his visit you’re… better, so he drags you off to Shibuya for a change of scenery. It’s fun, hours passing with easy laughter, and you realize you’d forgotten what it felt like not to hurt.
You’re halfway to the arcade when it happens.
Out of nowhere comes a sharp, stinging pain – it lances up your arm, tracing the lines of your butterfly like lightning, and Izanagi roars to life inside your soul.
Go.
You run.
You don’t know your destination, nor how your feet know where to go; it doesn’t matter. You follow the pull inside your heart, letting Izanagi direct you left, right, straight for a block then down into an empty, open alleyway, heedless of your Magician calling out behind you.
Then Izanagi’s presence abruptly disappears.
You stumble to a halt. Heart hammering and confused, you nearly miss the sound of pounding footsteps steadily coming closer until they’re just beyond the opposite entrance to the alley. You turn as a figure rounds the corner—
and freeze.
Wide eyes stare at you from behind crooked glasses, dark beneath darker curls in a beautiful, seraphim face. “You,” he whispers, taking a step towards you.
And then you’re both moving. You meet as one in a tangle of grasping desperation, tugging at each other’s wrists to reveal an identical pair of butterflies in shining, brilliant blue. Your fingers in his hair, his arms around your waist, and somewhere in the middle your lips connect in a kiss that feels and tastes like home.
“You’re alive,” you nearly sob when you pull apart, at the same time he murmurs in awe, “you’re real.”
Your name is Souji Seta, and you are 17 when Akira Kurusu calls you his soulmate.

Chapter 44: Truth And Dare
[WARNING: NSFW]
We spend the rest of the day in an odd sort of domestic bliss. William has been writing in his bedroom, and I have have been reading in mine. I get up from the bed when I hear his door open and close, only to find Puck in the hallway, pawing at the wood. He must have gotten kicked out for distracting William.
I scoop the bunny into my arms and make my way to the kitchen, where I make myself a sandwich with some cheese I find wrapped in cloth in a cupboard, and sit down to eat it along with some rouge.
“No, bichito, you can’t eat this,” I tell Puck when he climbs onto my lap to sniff the bread. “What is it? Are you hungry?” He wiggles his nose and stares at me with beady eyes, but does not give up his pursuit of my sandwich. “Okay,” I sigh, standing up again. I leave my food on the tall kitchen counter, out of the rabbit’s reach, and rummage around the kitchen for something to give him.
I give up soon enough, unable to find any vegetables, and opt to ask William for instructions. I noticed the little garden at the back of the house, and figured he must use it to feed Puck, but I want to make sure.
He opens the door quickly after I knock. It takes me a second to remember what I wanted to say. We have not talked about this morning. In fact, it’s like it never happened at all. It’s... strange, to say the least, even uncomfortable, but I do not know if I should bring up the topic of my attraction for him again. I doubt he feels anything beyond playful curiosity for me, and I still haven’t gotten over Leonardo. The way thinking of him helped me calm down at the café certainly surprised me, though. My attachment to him is obvious, but I never thought he would become my anchor, much less so after having ended our brief relationship.
“Um, uh...” I finally stammer. “I think Puck is hungry. I have no idea what rabbits can eat.”
“Oh,” William chuckles. “Well, I keep a basil plant in the back yard for him. Celery, clover... Carrot tops are alright too, but do not feed him the carrot itself. ‘Tis a treat only,” he explains.
“Okay, cool.”
I quickly turn and begin walking away, but he grabs my wrist, forcing me to stop.
“Anaïs, wait.” That makes me look at him. He only calls me by my name when he’s serious. “I have been wondering where the events from this morning leave us.”
“Yeah, me too...” I mutter.
“Thou should know that I am unusually fond of thee. I would not be opposed should thou choose to-”
“I don’t know,” I interrupt. “Part of me wants to, but part of me knows it’s not gonna end well. Not for me, at least. Not when it’s you.”
“I can’t promise I will not break thine heart,” he says slowly, “but I can promise thee this: if it ends badly, it shall be my downfall as well. The stakes are as high for me as they are for thee.”
“Perhaps, but we’re not even playing the same game,” I retort. “Are you just trying to get close to me to further whatever ulterior motives I’m sure you have, or are you actually interested in me that way?” I ask, pulling away from him.
“Thou art not any better, my sweet nightshade. Thou said so thyself, the only reason thou hast come to me is distrust.”
“Yeah, but that was before-” I cut myself off before I can finish the sentence. What the hell was I going to say, ‘before I developed a crush on you’? I absolutely blame this nonsense on vampire puberty, no matter what he says. He has a point, though. I am not as innocent as I have tried to convince myself I am. Sure, I might be attracted to William, but I must not forget why I came here in the first place. If my feelings need to be put on the line in order to find out what he’s up to, then so be it. “Fuck it,” I declare out loud. “Let’s do this.”
I grab him by the lapels of his jacket and pull him into a kiss. He smiles into it, satisfied with my decision, and buries a hand in my hair as the other grabs my waist. We stumble into his bedroom, and I kick the door closed behind me.
“Wait,” I rasp against his lips before pulling away. “We’re really doing this?”
“Only if thou art willing,” he answers. “Art thou?”
“Yes.”
“Good,” he smirks, and swiftly attacks my lips again, deepening the kiss.
My arms snake around the back of his neck, where I begin playing with his soft hair. My fingers then trail down to the collar of his shirt and latch onto the top button, undoing it slowly. William takes the suddenly tedious labor from my hands, and I pull away from the kiss to observe him. He undresses slowly, his eyes fixed on mine as a smirk grows on his lips. The performer that he is is giving me a show.
‘Your turn’, his eyes seem to say when the fabric slides off his shoulders, baring his torso. He makes no attempt to touch me again. No, he wants me to do it on my own. I oblige his unspoken request and begin to slowly unbutton my own blouse. I feel vulnerable under his patient gaze. The sound of my own nervous heartbeat makes me hesitate, accelerated by the aura of danger that seems to emanate from William whenever I cross paths with him. But I am here to stay this time. I feel like prey, but I won’t run. I want to be his, if only for this very moment, regardless of how long it lasts.
I don’t stop until the last of my garments hits the floor. There I stand, fully naked for William to see, too caught up in the thrill of the moment to think of anything else. He comes closer as his gaze falls to my breasts.
No, that is not what he is looking at. He reaches up to delicately trace what’s left of the bullet wound with his index finger. Unlike the rest of my scars, this one has not disappeared completely, and I suspect that neither has the entry hole on my back. Thanks to le Comte turning me to save my life, it healed abnormally quickly, leaving behind a rounded, misshapen indent on the left side of my chest. It has a silver tone to it, paler than the rest of my skin, and looks only slightly worse the scar usually left behind by a smallpox vaccine.
“I am terribly sorry for causing that unfortunate incident, my nightshade,” William mutters, suddenly serious. “To be forever marked like that...”
“Do I look like I care about marks on my body?” I chuckle, lifting my heavily tattooed arm in front of his face in an attempt to lighten the mood a little.
I wonder what he meant by ‘forever’. Will this scar not fade eventually like the others? Either way, now is not the time to think about that. William seems to agree, because that lustful shine returns to his eyes as he moves on from the bullet wound to cup my breast. His touch is careful, like that of a museum curator handling an ancient, invaluable artefact.
I remain completely still as he begins to slowly circle around me. His hand slides up my collarbone, then down my shoulder and along my arm, following the black outline of the leaves that are permanently etched onto my skin. He comes to a stop right above the back of my elbow.
“Is that Vincent’s?” he asks, intrigued by the familiar style of the sunflower. I nod. He then leans in from behind to whisper into my ear. “Careful, my lady. Thou might make me jealous.”
“It’s from before I met him.” My voice comes out softer than I anticipated, breathy and nervous from William’s possessive tone. It sends shivers down my spine. “I just like his art, that’s all,” I quietly explain.
I feel him suddenly pull away from me, but I do not turn around to see what he’s doing. I stay completely immobile as he comes back to stand behind me, so close that his chest is touching my back. He gently pulls a soft fabric over my eyes. The red silk ribbon from last night. I do not fight it this time. I read somewhere that, when one sense is taken away, the rest become heightened, better. I wonder how much more I could perceive deprived of my vision. Everything already feels so different since I turned...
He finishes tying the ribbon into a secure knot on the back of my head. I gasp when his fingers brush against the spot on my back where I know the other scar is, matching the one on my chest.
“Come, Anaïs,” he says softly. “Lay down for me.”
I let him guide me to the bed. As much as I refuse to trust William, I must at least pretend I do if I want to get anywhere with my little investigation. The only way to earn his trust is to prove that he has mine.
Though I am terrified, I blindly oblige his request and lay down. What’s the worst he could do, kill me? That is not something I have ever been particularly afraid of. Besides, I doubt it is what William wants.
“Put your arms up.”
I obey. Almost immediately, I feel something soft wrap around my wrists. He’s tying me up. The idea of being bound by him, so vulnerable and at his mercy, makes my breathing accelerate.
“Relax,” he whispers. “Give me a single word and I will free thee. I would never do this against thine will.”
“Okay,” I breath out, reassured. It is hard to be afraid when he is so gentle, so attentive. But alas, that does not make me any less nervous. I have never done this before, willingly submitting to someone like this, and I don’t know what to expect. “I trust you,” I quietly state, partially to convince myself of the fact as much as him. And so, my performance begins.
I feel the mattress sink where William climbs onto the bed beside me and begins laying a trail of kisses down my neck. He makes his way down my body in an infuriatingly slow manner, but I can’t help but shiver every time his lips flutter over my skin.
I am startled by a light pinch on my sensitive right nipple. I did not notice his hand move there... It is not his fingers I am feeling. No, his wet tongue clues me in, when it begins to circle around it between his lips, pulling an unexpected moan from the back of my throat. I do feel his hand on my left breast, where he has begun gently twisting the nipple between his soft fingers. He darkly chuckles when another sigh of pleasure escapes my lips before abruptly letting go.
I whine, wanting more, but he won’t give it to me. Instead, he teasingly caresses my stomach, slowly moving towards... Nothing. His warm hand is gone from my skin as fast as it had come, and I wiggle in my restraints, unsatisfied.
“Be patient, my nightshade,” he sings, amused by my desperation. Desperation for him, that he created. He knows I am putty in his hands, and he likes it. I think I do, too. “Part thy legs.”
His order surprises me. I do as he says without question, eager for his touch. Finally, he slides a finger down the center of my folds, slowly, carefully, as if I was going to shatter from the tension. I think I might. His finger moves up, then down again, before finding my entrance. I open my legs apart even wider, granting him access, and he slowly pushes into me. My breaths are heavy with anticipation, interrupted by a needy whimper every time William moves his finger inside me. I want more.
He must be able to tell, for another finger joins the first in his painfully slow process. It does not last long, though. I hear the rustling of clothes and something metallic hit the floor. His belt. The mattress shifts under his weight. I can feel the warmth of his body hovering over mine in teasing proximity. His breath tickles my ear as he cruelly laughs yet again at the vulnerable state he has left me in. And his cock... Hard as a rock, it presses gently against my core before sliding into me.
I gasp and tense in pleasure around his girth. William’s hand returns to my breast, squeezing it lightly, and then moves to caress up my neck. He cups my cheek as he lets me adjust to the sudden fullness I feel. His thumb drags over my lips, parting them for another kiss. At the same time as he takes my mouth in his, he thrusts again. My resulting moan is muffled by the kiss.
The movement of his hips accelerates, steadily but slowly, until I am left a trembling mess under him. He maintains his rhythm, sending electric shocks all over my body.
“Thou art so beautiful, my nightshade,” he groans when I come undone. His pace slows, helping me ride out my orgasm. “Radiant as the Sun itself.”
He pulls out, and I am left breathing heavily in my uncomfortable position with my arms tied to the headboard. I hear some rustling before the knots around my wrists loosen. Once my hands are freed, William moves on to remove the blindfold. I blink a few times to help my eyes adjust to the light in the room, only to see William smirking down at me. He did not finish this time, too focused on pleasuring me instead. I stare at him, not knowing what to say.
“Mierda,” I blurt out, suddenly remembering something. I don’t know whether to attribute it to the post-coital clarity or my own unpredictable train of thought. “I forgot to feed Puck!”
I quickly wrap myself in a robe I find on a chair, still glistening with sweat, and run out the room.

Volleyball is life, part 2
Fall and Winter 2016 was fairly uneventful as well. We started playing in lots of midnight tournaments (start at 6pm and play through the night), which are a ton of fun! With multiple different partners, I came home with the victory I think 3 separate times, and once came in second. That surely was a boost to my confidence in terms of my volleyball skills since I kinda felt like my Smash victories were going to be my career highlight, and I’d just kind of trail off from there. I played in 2 leagues over the Fall/Winter season; coed 6’s at Mechanicsburg which was a hot mess of a team, and women’s 6’s at Lower Paxton. The women’s team had its ups and downs, but we came out with the Win!
Mom got a new puppy in October 2016! His name is Goose, and he’s a very white Golden Retriever (pictures above). Mom and I got matching sunflower tattoos on our ankles in September. Also in September, we drove down to Virginia to visit Tiff and Chad at their new house. They live about 40 mins from a beach, which is serious life goals for me. In December, we took some time off and painted the kitchen, dining room, and some of the living room. It was a big project, but I’m glad we got it done. I really want to paint much more in the house, but I simply don’t have the time or funds anymore. And that was about it for 2016. For New Years, we went to a “private party” in downtown Harrisburg where we paid in advance and then there was an open bar all night, which was a lot of fun.
Into 2017, and not much happened in the first few months. The end of indoor leagues were wrapping up, and midnight indoor tournaments continued. In March, they opened a Planet Fitness across the street from my house! How convenient :) Also in March, Ashley and her boyfriend moved into the guest room in my house. It was a lot of fun to have them there, and the extra income didn’t hurt ;) Soon after they moved in, we learned that Ashley was pregnant. YES, PREGNANT! There was a lot of girl-talk that went down on the topic like every day. They have since moved back to York and she is due with her baby boy in October :)
Of course, April is birthday month! This year I turned 27, and it was possibly the most disappointing birthday yet. Not because of the age, but mostly because of Josh. He made little to no effort to do anything/get anything for my birthday. I know how selfish that sounds, but he also knows that a simple card with a nice note and just being extra super nice to me is more than enough of a “present”. But nope, I didn’t even get that. He eventually said, when we go down to the beach in May (Rehoboth tournament) he’ll pay for everything down there as my “present” so I don’t have to worry about it. Well come that weekend, he couldn’t afford part of his own expenses let alone cover for both of us. I resorted to just celebrating with my volleyball friends at one of those midnight tournaments by baking my own cupcakes to bring for everyone (and we won that tournament!). I’m not one to quantify “things” or compare what I got him for his birthday, etc. But we went to the beach for his birthday, including 2 special (expensive) birthday dinners that he requested, Blink 182 concert, and a few smaller presents. It was just frustrating to realize how much more I was putting into the relationship that he was. Regardless, moving on!
May brought the First Rites of Summer tournament in Rehoboth, which is one of my favorites. It symbolizes the start of outdoor season and its on the beach, you can’t beat it! Brie & Kenny have really become very close friends of mine and we spent majority of the weekend hanging out together. At the end of May, Kristen, Mallory and I played in a triples tournament in Mechanicsburg and won that too! That whole day was a lot of fun. Plus Tuff and Chad were in town so I got to see them as well.
June of this year brought outdoor season into full swing, and I literally played every single weekend! It was harder this year not having Josh at home to help with Baron and I felt bad leaving him home all the time. Of course mom was a big help with going over to hang out with him, but since she got Goose, she can’t just take him for the day. 3 crazy dogs would be way too much to handle! At Pottstown Rumble this year, my partner Kristen and I made it all the way to the finals, playing the last match at 10:30pm under the lights! We ended up coming in 2ndoverall, but it was a hell of a day of volleyball. The whole weekend was a great combo of good ball and even better friends. More summer weekends, more tournaments, nothing new there. Mitch and I won the MREC grass league this year. Instead of the OC, D beach trip for Josh’s birthday (since we obviously broke up before that), Brie, Kenny, and Mitch and I went for the long weekend without Josh and had more fun that I thought possible. It just so happens that Brie and Josh share the same birthday, so it worked out well.
I really can’t say enough how much I love my volleyball family. I’m older than the majority of them by 5 years or so, but they never make me feel left out. They are truly a wonderful group of people that I absolutely love spending time with, especially getting to play a sport we all love. Not to mention how helpful they all are when I do bring Baron to a tournament, they definitely make sure he gets lots of love and attention, which we all know just melts my heart.
Alright, I guess that’s enough for now. There are some updates to job-related things and new relationships, but I don’t have the energy to continue this anymore for today.
Until next time blog, JUST KEEP SWIMMING
