Exquisite Eggs . One of the little things I notice about the British is that they do eggs right . Whether poached, soft boiled, scrambled or fried, I never had a single egg that was over-cooked . One of the best occasions to experience great eggs is brunch and one of the great London institution’s for brunch is The Wolseley . It’s next door to the Ritz-Carlton in London’s Piccadilly and is the spot for breakfast . The signature eggs Benedict is wonderful and the variously named omelettes including the ‘Arnold Bennett’ with haddock and the ‘Adrian’ with lobster and caviar are delicious . High Tea 💯 . Afternoon tea is a classic British experience and there are almost too many institutions to choose from . We chose one more moderately priced afternoon tea and splurged for our second experience at one of London’s institutions: Claridge’s . Verdict? We absolutely loved the service, diverse and high quality tea selection and the quality of both the savory finger sandwiches and the scones and pastries . While the price is higher, the quality matches and the pastries felt like individually crafted treasures rather than mass produced confections . Classic British Food . While most people think of fish and chips when thinking of British food, it encompasses many more dishes of both baked, cured, and oven-varieties . St. John’s Restaurant is often recommended as representing traditional British fare and their convenient Bread and Wine location at Spitalfields Market is an easy stop after browsing all the great market goods . The menu changes daily and we sampled a variety of classics from braised beef and mash to a welsh rarebit and several types of cured fish .
