YJ 2.09 SPOILERS!!!
what really fucks me up about nats death was that she was the only one of the 6 whos life wasn’t actively getting worse in the 1-2 weeks leading up to the hunt.
shauna was in the midst of getting investigated (and probably going to prison for) murdering her lover, with police at lottie’s “intentional community” to track her down as the hunt was happening. her relationship with her daughter was deeply fucked up. overall, things were really going to shit for her.
taissa was sleepwalking again. her wife was dying in the hospital and on the verge of divorcing her. she ran to van for help, for comfort, and ended up taking off her wedding ring and kissing her.
van was dying of cancer. she was using pain meds to cope with it, and letting her business go into debt because it didn’t matter, because she was going to be gone soon anyways. as lottie stated, she more than just lost her spark—she was completely hopeless.
misty had a range of things going on: her relationship/relationship struggles with walter, her own involvement in the adam martin situation, her feelings of isolation from the other girls. while it’s harder to point to one thing and go THATS WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MISTY, like a real human she’s more complex than that and still was not doing well.
lottie was terrified. her visions were back, and so were her friends, and her only solution to either was the hunt. she just wanted the wilderness to leave her alone, and she did what she could to get it to.
natalie, once her attempt was over, was the only one who was getting better leading up to the hunt. she was getting clean, getting answers about travis, reconnecting with lottie, seeming more and more stable and at peace with every episode. she starts season 2 off resisting everything lottie and her community has to offer, and then in her own way, adjusts and becomes a part of it. her wardrobe shifts from her regular clothes, to more flowy, lottie-like shawls, and finally, full heliotrope in the finale.
for most of the other girls, death would have been a release from their problems-some of which would have resulted in them dying soon anyway. nat was the only one who didn’t. this is what destroys me the most about her death: she was the only one doing better, and she was the one to die.

These are my top TV shows that I watched in 2022. As with the movies, I'm posting this now because I never got around to it last year.
Also like the movies, these are just what I watched in 2022, not series that came out in 2022. They also have to be new to me in 2022, so no series with new seasons that I’d already been following. These aren’t necessarily the best shows, just ones I really liked or made an impression on me. I’m including both running series and limited or miniseries.
These shows are in no particular order, I just arranged the posters how I thought they'd looked the best. The shows are:
This is Going to Hurt
Shining Girls
The Haunting of Bly Manor
For All Mankind
Unbelievable
Five Days at Memorial
Succession
The Patient
Yellowjackets

I have so many feelings about Van and Tai. I love them, can you imagine being Coach Ben watching these two girls find a way to hold on to each other and carry each other through and fall in love even in the woods? Seeing a couple of gay kids be celebrated by their teammates? It wouldn't change their situation but it would still mean so much. Those two girls represent hope in the face of adversity and it's just beautiful.

So I’m assuming it was Coach Ben who set the cabin on fire and um…what the fuck? Like I know you’re disturbed by their quick descent into ritual cannibalism and all that but they are in a horrible situation and they’re just trying to live! You’re really gonna force them to freeze to death because of it? Like come on, they were always going to escape the cabin. The kids are survivors, he had to know that, he has seen the atrocities they are willing to commit to survive. Like damn, I can forgive cannibalism but I draw the line at arson, I guess?

I'm so into the idea that Van's job in this community is storytelling. She's not just Tai's #1, she also has her own role.

so that's a wrap on yellowjackets season 2.
uhhh i understand why so many people hated it. i didn't love it the way i loved season 1, some writing choices were glaringly problematic even within the context of a tonally dark show and the adult timeline had great individual scenes but a load of bloat and tbf, blatant nonsense. i think the biggest issue is how much they tried to cram into 9 episodes??
9 episodes is not enough room for all the storylines they had going on. particularly in the adult timeline where all of these events are taking place over the course of, what, a week!?!?
