When we were younger; Hank McCoy x gn! Reader; College!au
Authors note: This is an au I came up with. I wouldn’t really consider it an au though, more like a ‘when they were younger’ sort of thing. And in this story, he hadn’t became beast yet, or even met any of the other mutants.
You and Hank had been living together ever since both of you started college. A simple apartment, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, wide living room and a small kitchen. You weren’t together however, no matter how bad you wanted to be. He was a shy person and barely spoke to you unless necessary. But somehow, you two were inseparable.
You loved to tease him until he was a stuttering mess, and you let him experiment on you with simple projects. You called yourself his ‘testing toy’ and whenever you said it outloud, he would scoff, with a hint of blush on his cheeks.
“Come on, y/n, don’t say that. It just doesn’t sound right.” He would plead quietly.
“Hank! Who knew you had a dirty mind,” You giggled, wiggling your brows at him.
His cheeks turned bright red at your remark. Shaking his head, turning to look away, you could see the small smile forming on his face. You sat in the chair he asked you to sit in, and waited patiently.
He had told you about his mutation before you decided to move in together, making sure you were ok with it. Of course, you were. You didn’t mind. In fact, you thought it was quite cool.
“Can I see?” You asked cautiously, not wanting to cross a line.
“You want to see?”
“Yes.”
“Okay…”
He took off his shoe, showing you his foot. He cringed and looked away once he saw it, but you couldn’t look away. You weren’t weirded out or anything, just mesmerized that mutations were actually real.
After that, the both of you got closer. You slept in separate beds, in different rooms, but kept each other company. You were both nerds. You weren’t the same type of nerd as Hank, but still one nonetheless. Before you knew it, you fell for him, unbeknownst to him. You couldn’t help it, he was just so perfect.
Last night, you had a nightmare. It really affected you, and you woke in a cold sweat. You tried going back to sleep, but you just couldn’t. It was impossible. So you decided to do something you’ve never done before.
Walking up and knocking on Hank’s door, you hope for an answer.
“Y/n? What are you doing awake?” Hank asked after opening the door.
“I-,” You let out a shaky breath. “I had a nightmare, and was wondering if I could hang out for a while.”
“You look really tired, y/n. Come in, I can make you a sleep remedy or something.” He said, opening his door so you could go in.
You followed him and after he motioned for you to lie down, he began to walk away. Before he could, you grabbed his arm and stopped him from walking any further.
“Stay?” You pleaded. “Stay with me?”
Since there was a small light in the hallway, coming into his dark room, your eyes had to adjust. But it was a simple task of seeing the surprise on his face. He gulped loudly, nodding as he climbed in beside you.
When he got comfortable, you both stayed on separate sides of the bed, not wanting to freak one another out. You were almost asleep when you heard a noise outside, jumping in fear.
“Shh, it’s ok, it’s just the tree y/n.” Hank said, wrapping his long arms around you, pulling you close.
You blushed at the contact, overly aware at how close the two of you were at this moment. You calmed down, melting into his warm embrace. Welcoming his scent to fill your lungs. Oh, how long you have wanted to do this, but was so afraid that he didn’t like you back.
“I’ve wanted to do this for so long,” He whispered, as if reading your mind.
“Really?” you looked up at him with heavy eyes, knowing you were a step away from sleep.
“Yes. Now get some sleep, ok? We have a test tomorrow.” he chuckled, kissing your hair line.
“How about we just stay like this forever?” You mumble before falling asleep.
“Deal.”
